I really like this place and I especially wish they had a location closer to me. We tried a bunch of things and my favorites were the Lao sausage, the mochi bites, and the ube coconut mochi waffles. The waffles were so good...chewy, crispy, coconutty goodness. A few misses for me was the mango sticky rice (it had a sweet glaze on it instead of coconut cream and I would have preferred the cream) and the nam khao was just okay. Still, more hits than misses. Throughout our meal there was a constant flow of people ordering takeout as well as food delivery pickup, so I know I'm not alone in loving this place. My coconut water had a lot of coconut meat in it too. We got to speak to the owner while we were there too which was cool. I saw some fantastic pictures and positive review from a fellow Yelper and finally made our way over to Cocomilk Cafe today. If we hadn't already eaten at a nearby restaurant, we would have ordered more things to try! Firstly, Cocomilk Cafe looks deceivingly small from the exterior! Inside, they have a decent-sized seating area and a long counter of freshly-made desserts. While I was familiar with many of the ingredients offered in their desserts (i.e. coconut, pandan, ube, cassava, mochi), I wasn't familiar with the desserts themselves. We tried the coco panda and coco ube - both of which were soft mochi rice balls filled with toasted coconut and brown sugar inside and tossed in soft coconut shavings (8 bite-sized balls per order/box). These were fresh and had just the right amount of sweetness. We also tried their coco pandan drink and Thai tea - these were so freaking delicious. I love how strong the tea flavor was in the Thai tea and the coco pandan drink was light and refreshing! As we waited for our order togo, the owner (?) kindly offered us a sample of their mochi waffle. Omg, I loved how chewy the waffle was on the inside and lightly toasted on the outside. I definitely will be coming back to Cocomilk Cafe for their mochi waffle again and again. Our pork egg rolls (4 pieces per order) and grilled pork dish with sticky rice were ready in a few short minutes and both were nicely packed in a sturdy handle bag. The egg rolls surprisingly stayed crispy until we arrived home - where we promptly devoured those delicious morsels. Hands-down these were some of the best crispy egg rolls we've ever had: perfect filling to skin ratio and the sweet/spicy dipping sauce was incredible. Girls dinner night out to fry something new. Saw that there were some desserts we thought looked good and wanted to try it. We went in and ordered more than we expected. We went on a Monday night at 5pm and we were the only ones in there the entire time. One front of the house and maybe one or two in the back. Was very hospitable and even allowed us to try some desserts we were looking at to order. Loved how almost each dish came with some leafy greens and cucumber slices We ordered- Nam khao- it's a type of rice dish that's fried and crunchy. Not the typical fried rice. It was so delicious and flavorful. Came with some fried red peppers- and they were actually spicy! I've only ever had nam khao home made and once at a restaurant where I didn't care for it, due to it it being flavorful enough. Came with a few slices of cucumbers and a leafy green under. Grilled beef- with either sticky or white rice. so flavorfully marinated. Big pieces. Came with a few slices of cucumbers again and some leafy green. Had a spicy pepper dipping sauce. The beef is a little chewy, but that's just the style, might not be for everyone. We were debating to get the jerky beef, but opted for this. Will try the jerky beef next. Papaya salad- I prefer it to had more of the crab paste, but it is Laos style and not Thai style, which is what I like! It was just two peppers so it was between mild and medium. Tapioca balls- had ground meat in it. I think pork. Came with a side of fish sauce- so good! Wrap it in lettuce to eat it. Perfect chewiness. I do prefer it pan fried a little bit on the tapioca balls, but it was the perfect flavor and texture. Lao sausage- 2 pieces cut into slices- came with sticky or regular rice. We got sticky rice. Had the pepper sauce with it. It has a lot of lemon grass in the lao sausage and the ends were crispy!!! I love the ends!!!! The sausage didn't fall apart in the middle. That is what I always look for- for it to not be too mushy and a good casing. For dessert we got the mochi waffles. It was Ube flavor I think? Had pieces of corn and coconut in it. It was crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside served hot and fresh! Mochi layers- so pretty!!! 6 different flowers in different colors. Also served warm, soft and chewy! Not too sweet. Best eaten fresh, wasn't great left over. Drinks- my friend had a drink that was similar to a mangonada but it wasn't. She liked it a lot. Me friend and I got the coconut water with coconut pulps- refreshing. They had a case displaying all of their desserts which k thought was nice for people to be able To see what they are ordering. Let me start by saying -- I'm definitely coming back!! I originally stopped by because I was craving sweets and they have some of the most adorable looking desserts! Little did I know they had food there too, so that was a pleasant surprise. For sweets we ordered the mango sticky rice. And the mochi waffles. The mango rice had nice ripe mangos, and came with a side of cream to top the dessert. I suggest moving the dessert on to a bigger plate because it got a little messy trying to eat off the cute little container it came in. The mochi waffles came out nice and fresh. It had bits of corn and coconut strings. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to try some of their food, so we got the khaopoon, Nam khao, and sausages. All were exceptional, worth giving them a try. The khaopoon came with a nice piece of chicken, but the noodles were a little cold. The broth was warm but I feel like the noodles dropped its temp so it wasn't as piping hot as a bowl of noodles should be. Nonetheless, still tasty. I love Nam khao almost every where I go, and this definitely makes the list. Cocomilk was one of the many stops we made while visiting the area from the Bay. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy so we got a table for the 6 of us and ordered almost everything on the menu. Each of us got 2 of the street food items to share and also some dessert and drinks. I personally ordered the kapiet for myself and the nam kao. They both met my expectations (4/5). There were a variety of desserts on display. I was concerned that there wasn't any mango sticky rice, but was told they were making them as we speak. I don't like coconut flakes, so I didn't order any of those desserts. The melon pandan layers caught my eye because of the pretty flower molding they used and they were purple. Because they were in the process of making more mango sticky rice, I had to wait for a bit. When they called my name, they handed me my desserts in a nice bag. Hands down is my favorite restaurant in sacramento of 2023. Super flavorful and never fails to deliver. My favorite item to get here is the grilled beef with sticky rice. While you can get the beef with regular white rice of sticky rice, I think the sticky rice adds a good texture. The heavenly beef is similar to the grilled beef but is more of a beef jerky like texture. The sauce is comes with is amazing and is sour and spicy. The prices are super affordable and I love that the sides aren't the price of a regular entree unlike most restaurants nowadays. I love that I'm able to get the papaya salad along with my meal for only an additional 7.50. The papaya salad comes with the option to get it in the lao or thai style. I typically get the Thai style as I don't like the crabs in the Lao style or the extra added fish sauce. Be warned medium is pretty spicy. The ordering system is a bit confusing as they have a togo counter for drinks and desserts, as they have a separate boba/drinks menu. So if you're dining in you can just sit down at any table and order through the QR code or with the waitress. They are a bit understaffed so you aren't seated immediately upon walk in at least for the last two times I've been and can just sit anywhere you'd like. However if you're ordering to go you can order at the counter or order online to pick up ahead of time. They also have catering options on their website through a Google docs. The mochi layers were also super good and flavorful. You can peel the different layers or bite it all together. The colors are supposed to have different flavors but overall I only tasted the prominent pandan flavor. There were some labels without any display so I figured maybe they're refrigerated. I saw a label for Pandan Sago. I love sago so I wanted to try it but didn't see anything on the menu with sago. Apparently this was an issue. I asked the cashier to get the pandan sago and she had no idea what I was talking about. At first she didn't hear me so I said it again and pointed to the sign of it on the window at the counter. She couldn't see since the sign was facing outward and I had to say it again.....this repeated 2-3 more times and finally she just said I don't think we have it. She basically gave up and didn't even try. She could have also asked someone else if they had it available. I have no idea why she didn't just turn the sign around to read it if she really couldn't hear me after I was practically screaming it! I was annoyed at that point and still wanted something for dessert so I picked the purple rice custard. It was $8.50?! I thought ok it better be a pretty generous size. It definitely wasn't and shouldn't have been much past $5 or maybe $6. Or I'd be fine paying $8.50 if it actually tasted good :( The custard was overcooked and tasted more of omelette texture and not a creamy custard at all. I saw her making it and she just put the "custard" on top of a premade sticky rice. No sauce or anything. I also picked the Coco Strawberry drink. I'm not a big coconut fan so I didn't want anything TOO coconut-y. It was a pretty looking drink but it was sooo sweet. It was definitely syrup and not fresh strawberry flavor. Imagine a strawberry soda minus carbonation. The coconut part was the little pieces inside but they just tasted like regular jellies and they were hard. I didn't even finish the drink. Only good thing I can say is their dessert packaging is nice. Also the cashier was mainly working up front by herself and she was hustling at least. My friends and I were a bit full and only got the one Mango sticky rice ($8.50). It was pretty small (maybe the size of 3 shot glasses in plastic cup form). The rice was hard to get out of the cup as well with the spoon. For that price, I could go to a Thai restaurant and get the same dessert for better quality. I believe this restaurant review should be read as a solid 3, heck, a 3+ if you will. My wife and sister-in-law are boba fans, are southeast Asian, and wanted to give this place a try for a late breakfast/early lunch. I am not a boba fan at all, but both of them said that the boba drinks were very good, and they are worth coming back for. So, if you enjoy boba, I am sure you would like to peruse the menu and try the drinks. We ordered a number of dishes, from Khah Ponh, to a chicken noodle soup, to Larb, and various other dishes. I thought the Khah Ponh was good, but could have used more spice (and that's coming from a guy on prednisone with stomach issues). Good flavor, but kind of dead of what you expect from a Southeast Asian soup. I enjoyed the mochi waffle (which also had corn kernels in them....a little weird, but it worked). Their mochi waffle is miles away better then the mochi donuts that are currently trending across the planet. Love this place, it's wasn't far from where we are in mid-town Sacramento and the food is out of this world good. We had the grilled beef, chicken basil, and the chicken salad. this place had an amazing service and everything looked very aesthetically pleasing. The inside is pretty spacious. I came here on Saturday and it was not busy. There was 2 or 3 people ahead of us and the wait was not long at all. The mochi is like a jelly. I wouldn't really call this mochi. I was wondering if it had different flavors but I think it's the same flavor they just look different. I'm not sure how to describe the taste it's not bad but it's not good either but it was still a great experience to try some thing new. the mango sticky rice was really good, we also bought the chili. You know a food/drink spot is something when purchased items are put into a sturdy and trendy shopping bag (felt like I needed to hit up a Sephora while holding it lol). I really enjoyed everything that I tried here! The soy noodles are super delicious; has some saltiness from the soy sauce (but not too salty!) and also a little bit of sweetness. The noodles taste like they were just cooked and the veggies with them are very fresh and crisp. The coco pandan balls are bursting with coconut flavor from the caramelized coconut flakes on the inside and the regular coconut flakes on the outside (as a nitpick I wished there was more pandan flavor as it's a bit subtle). Fun to eat as they're soft and chewy; kinda like mochi but more like Filipino palitaw. Fresh, unpreserved coconut meat bits in the strawberry coco drink and there's a perfect amount of strawberry flavoring (not overly sweet) to complement the refreshing coconut juice. I was also given a complimentary sample item! It was like a taro glutinous rice custard with coconut cream on top. Tastes just as good as it sounds! Wowoweewow very impressed with my haul. I didn't care for it, but my partner thought it was better than most. definitely stronger tea flavor. They also gave a sample of the coco gems. They have water chestnut in the middle to give it a crunch. I wasn't a fan at the time, but now I kind of wish I got some. The chestnut didn't really give it flavor, just a crunchy texture. The "mochi"/tapioca outside did have flavor though, which was good. Service was friendly, but kinda slow. I would come back for the chicken and cocogems, as they're quite unique. However, I wouldn't visit frequently due to the price and I generally don't like coming to the area (due to the horrible driving and traffic in the area). Not bad for a boba place. It's not like your typical quickly or other boba spots. This place actually serves Lao dishes and desserts. We drove all the way to Cocomilk Cafe from Hayward after seeing people post their food and restaurant on TikTok. The service is excellent. The staff are so helpful and attentive. We ordered the Lao Sausages, Khao Piak, Nam Khao, Grilled Beef, Heavenly Beef, Pork Tapioca and Mochi Layers. Everything was very delicious. read more

I've been seeing this place pop up on my Facebook groups. Had to go give it a try! Upon entering the man at the register was so friendly and helpful. He also took his time to explain items on the menu to me and some other customers coming in. He also gave me a coconut pandan drink to try while I waited. Everything I got was so good! Lao sausage was my favorite so flavorful! The pork tapioca balls were good too, my first time having it. I got the mochi layers it was okay, it wasn't too flavorful or sweet. But presentation is 10/10 they're so beautifully made! What got me in here was the golden nest when I saw it and my boyfriend mentioned it's one of his faves growing up: I had to try it. Can't wait to come back and try other items! And hopefully they have mango sticky rice again soon. It was out of season today. read more
