We happily stumbled across the coconut caboose truck and pulled over. It was the last day of our trip to Maui and fresh coconut was just the thing that was missing. They were so friendly, giving us samples of just about everything, making the decision hard. I ended up ordering the coconut ice cream, which I do have to say was better as a small sample than as a whole cup that had been frozen and was a bit dense and hard to eat. I kind of wish I had gotten the coconut shaved ice. I steered away from it since we had already had shaved ice, but we hadn't had COCONUT shaved ice. My mistake. Next time. My bf had the fresh coconut which is a must get. After you finish drinking the water they cut it up for it so you can eat the meat. Yum.

This was such a cool find and thanks to our tour guide (on Road to Hana) for the intel. If you like sno cones or shaved iced, this is a special offering, ice made from coconut. That said, before this trip, I was not a fan of coconut water, coconut candy or some other coconut items (however I love pina coladas) and fell in love with the flavor because it really is different and coconuts on the island are tastier. Here's my rating of the items I tried: Shaved ice - pineapple flavor 5/5 Shaved ice w/ gelato special - 5/5 Slushie - 4/5 (mango) Coconut water float -5/5 Coco-macadamia nut candy - 5/5

I wish I could give it 10 stars! We went there every day even on the day we left cutting close to our flight timings! Big applause to the adventurous flavor combinations with creamy coconut base gelato. One absolutely needs to stop by here to enjoy coconut water. They have max 3 days old coconuts but you are guaranteed with sweet water. And the taste is very close to home! Unlike the ones we get here on mainland. Two favorite flavors in gelato- Jabuticaba - big bold flavor with perfect grape smoothie color and coconut base. The best - coconut gelato. It's a perfect opposite to the above one but delish Coconut with jelly like meat- tend to be sweeter and that meat it not too heavy Coconuts with thicker meat- water is less sweet but perfect if you have skipped breakfast and one fruit would fill you up! They tend to move their parking spot depending upon space but found them on a bend right after kapulua where you will see lots of other cars parked. This is my #1 recommended place in must visit places in Maui

I love coconuts!!! So I was super excited when I found this on Yelp before my trip to Maui. I had the shaved ice special with guava and lilikoi flavoring plus the coconut gelato. All of it was refreshing and the gelato was amazing! The woman who helped me was so nice and friendly!! You would expect all workers would be just as nice on the island, but nope lol! She was one of the few I experienced on the island who even smiled when taking your order. I wish I was able to make another visit before my leave. Highly recommend! Fun fact: the owner actually climbs and collects all the coconuts to bring to the cart. So support the locals as much as you can!!

Everything is handmade, organic and delicious! We got the coconut shaved ice, which was made from coconut juice, it was soooo good! I highly recommend this place. It's located in Maui Outlet Mall parking lot, you can shop and get dessert!

If you want to try some amazing coconut shaved ice then def stop by at this truck. They have amazing variety of coconut in form of shaved ice , coconut gelato, coconut Slushie etc. We tried coconut flavored shaved ice and it was so good. They even add flavor in case you feel less after finishing half of your dish. I wish they had some place to sit also but they don't. Also, if you want to try some natural coconut then they have that too. We didn't try that but many were ordering and seem to enjoy it...!!

This coconut caboose is in the perfect area near the beach and also near restaurants and shops. I recommend getting the fresh coconuts here. You can drink them, and then they'll cut the meat out for you. It's super enjoyable and the guy working there is so friendly! Amazing service. The coconut Gelato is also fantastic.

Adorable little food truck along the North side drive coming back from Honolua Bay - definitely save your appetite for this creamy yummy coconut water shaved ice treat. It's certainly refreshing and amazing to see them prepare the shave ice. The service was very friendly and very informative of the menu and ingredients being used. They gave some samples as well to try. I had the shaved coconut ice and coconut gelato special w/ some lychee syrup drizzle. On a hot summery afternoon this was great. I would certainly recommend to anyone to stop by.

Hands down one of the best things we ate, second only to poke, while vacationing in Maui. We went all in by ordering coconut gelato with coconut ice and coconut syrup. No regrets because IT WAS DIVINE! My only complaint would be that the ice cream was too hard to be considered gelato, but I'm guessing that's because it's vegan. I only wish they had more locations so that we could've visited one last time before leaving the island!

Decided to take a scenic drive to see the blowhole and spotted the Coconut Caboose on the side of the road in a small parking area. An amazing array of coconut delicacies (shave ice, ice cream, smoothie and more!) but we just had to have the straight ice cold coconut water followed by the tender flesh. Very friendly staff! We stopped here on the way back from Nakalele Blowhole. Our oldest, 7, loves fresh coconut and our youngest, 5, loves shave ice so this spot was a win-win. We really enjoyed the Coconut gelato, some shave ice and a fresh coconut which was a great treat after all the hiking. The guy running the stand was very nice. It was cool watching him open the coconut with the machete. After we drank the coconut water he carved out the fresh coconut and bagged it for us. I highly recommend making a stop and enjoying the experience.

Amazing! Maui must have! This shave ice is like no other. 100% organic and vegan. Their shaved ice with coconut gelato in the bottom is amazing! They also have cold whole coconuts that we all love. I love the idea of a truck like this along the road with a great cool refreshing snack. It is located at the Honolua Bay Lookout, it's a great place to stop & take some pictures or snorkel in the bay. I recommend the 100% all pure coconut gelato & shaved ice they freeze the coconut water, then shave the ice! This concept is rare so if you drive by check it out. I have tried the gelato float with carbonated coconut water. I also tried the juvenile coconut water right from the coconut & the coconut meat. Amazing! read more

***Must stop by!*** Their coconut shave ice is unique and incredible. Every flavor we tried was amazing (Strawberry passion fruit grapefruit lemon lime). Best service ever! The guy who cut my coconut made sure i got exactly what I wanted (more meat less milk). They are located on a hill where the view is perfff for pictures! AMAZING!! That review is from my daughter who is one picky eater. We stumbled across this place when we were up by Honaloa Bay and are so glad that we stopped. Everything was yummy. Everything came from coconuts. The kids had the coconut shave ice. It is the best shave ice we've had so far. The flavors are all natural and made with cane syrup and no artificial colors. My husband and I split the coconut gelato and it was creamy and delicious. They have 3 flavors: plain, cinnamon and chocolate. I think cinnamon will be my next, but the plain coconut was delicious. You may be able to get a sample when you stop by. Definitely take the opportunity if they offer. We are already planning our second stop this trip so we can try something else (the kids are going to stick with the shave ice in different flavors. They told us that they should be opening a kiosk in Lahaina soon. We look forward to that. read more

My whole family couldn't stop saying, "this is the best coconut I've ever had!" Seriously. Everyone couldn't help taking turns blurting this out over and over as we devoured our yummy treats. We had the shaved ice which is made of fresh frozen coconut water shaved into a cone and various flavors added. We added guava and it was delicious. We also had the coconut gelato which won hands down as the crowd pleaser for my family. It's all natural coconut milk turned into gelato, no sugar no guilt... better than ice-cream! Are you kidding me? How can I take some home please? I need more guilty free pleasures in my life. Haha. Just try it and see for yourself. We also had coconut water straight from the coconut which we had broken open after we drank it and then the very nice men sliced the meat out for us and yummmmmmmm. So delicious. Great service! Honestly I'm a huge fan! It's got the best vegan desserts you'll find in Maui. Had all 3 days we were in West Maui. The shaved ice, it's the lightest and least sugary than any other usual options, made of real coconut water, can't believe that right?! Oh the coconut gelato, I don't have words for how good it is. Naked coconut was my favorite, the chocolate one of yum as well. I am really hoping Jeremy and his girl friend make it big, this needs to be had by a lot more people! read more

I am from India , we have lot of coconut tree there , I love tender coconut or any coconut based food. Since I moved to Portland I was not able to find any good tender coconut . We went to Maui for vacation n I was so excited to try lots of coconut . I found this place through Yelp , close to where I was staying .its a small cart like shop . They have lot of stuffs other than tender coconut. In many place they have coconut in refrigerator . I personally doesn't like cold coconut water. I was happy that he shaved us the coconut from his truck . The coconut is $8 which is lil expensive than other coconut place . Usually around $ 5 in other place . The coconut water tasted so fresh . He also broke the coconut into half to scoop in the tender coconut inside. Most places doesn't do it. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I tasted coconut gelato there , it tasted too good but it made my stomach so upset . read more

Had the opportunity to meet Jeremy this week and enjoy a taste of Coconut Caboose gelato. A friend recommended we check it out on our vacation to Maui. I'm generally not a fan of store bought, processed coconut water, but what Jeremy does is totally different and you can taste the difference. I had the cacao (chocolate) gelato and my wife had the lilikoi. Both were outstanding. More than even the product I enjoyed hearing Jeremy tell his story of raising his business from the ground up, rooted in Maui and the coconut fruit. His passion and commitment to growing a local business that values raw ingredients, nothing more nothing less, exudes from everything about this place. Keep doing what you're doing brotha. If you want real coconut gelato made right from the coconut, no extracts or weird flavoring, this place is so amazing. It is raw vegan and sweetened with maple syrup and worth every penny. We also had the shaved ice (mango and coconut flavors) which was perfectly soft all the way through and the fresh coconuts were refreshing to drink from and then enjoy the meat. You can't go wrong here! read more

Out of all of the desserts I had on the island, Coconut Caboose was my fav. Very unique, as the shave ice is made with coconut water instead of regular water. Better texture shaved ice than the popular Ululani's. My vacation ended a little less than a month ago; but I still think about the Shave Ice Special with coconut gelato in the center, and wish I could book another flight. read more

Was searching everywhere by Lahaina to get a fresh coconut so we drove up here. Awesome place right off the highway! They were $8 each and the guy does all the work for you so you just sit back and enjoy. He cuts out all the coconut meat for you too. read more

Awesome! Employees were so sweet and so was their shave ice + gelato. The gelato ($7) was creamy and delicious and the small portion was perfect because it was so rich. The owner told us it took 1 whole coconut to make each serving. We got lemon-lime with passion fruit for our shave ice flavors and they were generous with the syrups. The latter was definitely better than the former. I would like to try the other fruity flavors. read more

HANA HOU! We ran across their truck while taking my wife around the northern route of West Maui for the first time. I honestly wasn't thinking about picking anything up, but I strolled over and they offered me free samples of their coconut ice cream. I have rarely tasted anything so amazing! Coconut ice cream is less sweet than it's over-sugared cousin, which is a good thing. Like haupia, it's more like eating natural chocolate than the Hershey's sugar rush. My wife ate the regular (coconut) while I had the chocolate, but both were equally good. They have other things, of course, most of which are variants of coconut. I can imagine all of them being absolutely tasty. If only I ran into them more often, I'd gladly sample their entire menu! If you happen to be lucky enough to cross path with their truck (which is often at the Honolua Bay overlook), then try something. You won't be disappointed! read more

Great place for tasty coconut. We tried many places in maui, but we got the tasty ones here. Kids loves Slushies. We accidentally dropped one coconut with jelly on the ground. Their coconut gelato is so good, can't explain the texture but I miss it already. Their shaved ice is good as well. Price is about $8 for each. Parking is in a lot and fits about 10 cars and can get crowded especially since it overlooks Honolulu Bay - really nice view. read more

We went on an adventure to go explore west maui and at one of the pull offs we found this truck! I usually don't like coconut but they put lime juice in it and after you were done drinking it he would cut it open and get the "meat" out for you. The meat was amazing! We visit the island often and always have to have 808 at least twice during our trip. We order over the phone and pick up at the truck and you can eat it at the tables there or take it to go. I spend about $70 plus tip and couldn't get a half of a lime which is insane. The response that they can't gives limes or it will be taken from their check is ridiculous. I really hope that's not the case from the owner! After my order, my family of 12 (who were planning to order after me) went to the food court instead. And when asked if they had a QR code to add a Yelp review, I was told to "look at the name on the truck" my receipt says JJs Tacos but the truck says Taco Zone.

The only thing I didn't like was that the price was a bit high though in my opinion but I guess everything in Maui is that high priced. Update: went back and got a coconut slushie drink again :) and tried the plant based mushroom and cheese (coconut cheese) and fish empanada. They were delicious with the mushroom being our favorite. The chipotle sauces and cilantro onion sauces were delicious as well! The empanadas are not made to order (they are premade so you cannot seperate out the cheese from the mushroom but it does not have a strong flavor). I also liked the coconut slushie by itself vs mixed with mango. Note: The empanadas come in 2: when you eat in house, a red Chipotle sauce and white cilantro onion sauce are given with it (as well as with the arepas); there is another sauce for vegans (think it's a cilantro/ oil/ spice sauce). We liked the white sauce better than the vegan sauce. The empanadas are not made to order (they are premade). If you order to go, you are only given once sauce. If you want more than one, you need to just add it on before you leave with the big dispensers. Otherwise, you only get one sauce (not sure why you can't just add white and red sauce in the same to go container but we weren't given the option). And, to make things worse, the lady said curtly she would charge me next time for 2 sauces "due to the plastic". well, thank you for not charging me but the statement was unnecessary IMHO. Note for improvement (and for this, I was tempted to drop the star rating): we came here multiple times and gave your business a lot of our dollars (about 135.00), yet the above statement, I don't think was necessary if you are trying to provide good customer service. You should gladly offer extra of the sauce or even, as I suggested above, allow customers to add the sauce themselves if they want more than 1 sauce and you don't want us to "use up your plastic containers". Kind of left a bad taste in our mouths.

It took less than 10 minutes for my food to be ready and I sat down at one of the shaded picnic tables. When I opened everything up it all looked good, but I did notice that the tots were missing the house made pickles. I started with the bao and thought it was pretty good. The kalua pork was super juicy and the bao bun was light and fluffy while still holding together well. The pickled onions added a nice acidity and the tropical salsa brought good flavor. The only thing I did not notice much was the BBQ sauce. After that I dug into the tots. The tots themselves were cooked nicely with a crispy outside and soft inside. The chicken was good as well with a nice batter and the buffalo sauce added flavor while the cheese was gooey. The only thing worth noting is that the chicken was softer than expected and not very crispy. It worked since I did have the texture from the crispy tots, but it stood out. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I would probably not order both a bao and tots again as it was a lot of food, but I would definitely come back for one or the other.
