Each of my family members also ordered their own ice cream.The girl helping us was new and was a bit slower, but very nice and patient as we decided what to get. One thing I didn't realize is that if you decide to get more than 1 flavor, they will automatically mix it all up for you. The girls in front of us must have asked for 6 different things. Every answer by your "staff" was, "we're out of that." I've been here in the past with my kids for ice cream numerous times before, but now the location is closed well past opening- 2 pm- 3 pm. The lights are off, and when I believe the owner comes in, he says they have no ice cream in the store. This is not a one off, as it has been going on a few times. A month ago, we ordered a birthday cake 2 weeks in advance with instructions for writing on the cake. When we got there and waited until 3 pm for the owner to arrive, they didn't write on the cake, and he acknowledged it and apologized. I completely understand employees wanting to leave on time, but if the business is advertised as being open until 10 PM, customers should be able to enter and place an order before closing. I just ordered a strawberry passion cake for my birthday, but when I came to pick it up, they said they had not received my order even though they had the finished cake; they also said they didn't receive the note to put my "Happy Birthday" message on there. More importantly, the design was subpar as it had very minimal effort put into it, For example, the frosted "leaves" on the strawberry halves the lined the top of the cake were just circular blotches of deep green. It was as if they didn't even bother to get a, perhaps nicer piping tip and pipe onto the strawberry tops. Then they said they couldn't fit a "Happy Birthday" message on there because the cake was too small (I got their smallest size). However, for this I don't really blame them too much. At the end of the day, this Cold Stone's kind of disappointing; it's not how I remember it years ago. Another thing is, I usually get my birthday cakes from the Cold Stone at Tanforan, but because they were temporarily closed, I had to settle for less: this Daly City location. For $40, you'd really think you're going to get an amazing, perfect cake, but you might be better off purchasing from at least a different location in the future. Upon closer inspection, I also noticed that the layer of frosting on top of the cake was lopsided and generally uneven, the little logo chocolate piece was no where near centered, and the ice cream layer was noticeably thinner than the red velvet cake layers. read more
