Almost 1 hour wait for basic ice cream!!!! I had a big craving for ice cream and there was about 6 people ahead of me and 4 employees on the clock. Somehow it took almost an hour until it was finally my turn. One employee went on her lunch break, the other 2 were too busy assisting the door dash/online orders and the one employee who was actually taking the customers order was taking his sweet time per ice cream. Sad thing was if I was the only customer in line I'd be like that's okay, but there was like 10 people behind me as well. Customers who come to the actual shop should be treated top priority over online orders. NOPE one employee every 10 minutes would come up and be like someone will be with you shortly while she prepares another online order as the line at cold stone grew longer and longer. Disappointing at best. Ice cream was expensive and entirely unremarkable. The chocolate-dipped waffle cup grabbed my attention and filled with ice cream, was about $10. But the ice cream was overpowered but chopped up brownie and the chocolate on the waffle cup was waxy and flavorless. Very disappointing. And the store was absolutely disgusting. I'm a pretty patient person as I too work in customer service. If you want to be eyeballed and treated like crap for purchasing overpriced ice cream then this is your place. The sign says "no more than 3 parties at a time" that's what the sign says. So we were the third party. A lady came in after us and the employee said nothing to her but looked right at my teenage son and TOLD him to stand outside. Why? Then the employees behind the counter started talking about us so loud that another customer said something about it. But why come here at all. There's other places you can go and support. Before this visit, I was not a fan of Cold Stone. 1. My friend loves this place so much but from my experience, Cold Stone is just a cup of gooey, melted ice cream. 2. I sampled the chocolate hazelnut and sea salt sweet cream. Ended up getting a 'like it' sea salt sweet cream with graham cracker pie crust, chocolate chips, and one gummy shark (lol). Sea salt sweet cream sounds weird but it is not too sweet, which is perfect if you get sugary mix-ins. I really enjoyed this combo. 3. It's been so long since I had ColdStone and have never been to this location. Friend and I walked in and because it had been so long, I couldn't stop my face from smiling. I love the smell of cold stone. They were several young ladies working behind the counter all of which seemed pleasant. Gloria was the young lady who made my delightful treat which was peanut butter perfection with banana ice cream. So the base is banana, with peanut butter cups, peanut butter sauce and chocolate syrup. It was delicious but I do have to say something seemed a little off. I'm not sure if the peanut butter cups weren't really by Reese's or they weren't that fresh, not really sure what exactly was going on but it was tasty overall as again it has been more than a year since I've had a cold stone. I must comment on the cleanliness of this location. There are only approximately five tables and we had to ask for something to wipe off the table before we sat. My friend politely asked for a towel and stated he was willing to wipe it himself. One of the ladies then came from behind the counter to wipe the table but that did not take care of the floor. Not that it is OK for a restaurant of any size to not be clean. However, with a location this size, it stands out even more. My strong suggestion is that even though at times you may get busy, someone should take 5 to 7 minutes to quickly wipe the tables with a CLEAN towel and make sure there are no napkins or debris on the floor. This will go a long way as your spot is way too small to do anything less. Not sure why the ratings here are so poor. I've only had a handful of times the ice cream was really soft/soupy. But it's rare (seems to happen more in the summer when it's hot out). Overall, the staff is friendly, the orders to go (or back when you could dine in-store) are efficient, and the quality is solid. I typically order ahead and the order is ready right away when I arrive. The parking lot has a lot of homeless; they don't bother you but just something to point out. The order went through, however on the night before the pickup date at 8pm I got an email saying it was not confirmed yet. And at midnight I got another one saying it was confirmed, but of course they weren't open at midnight so they didn't get the order until the morning when they opened, which happened to be the same time as my designated pickup time So the cake wasn't ready, but we weren't in a rush and had other plans. The crew apologized and said they would find out what happened but it was clear to all of us it was a technical error of the website and not their fault. They promised to start the cake right away and that it would be ready in two hours. We went about our birthday plans and sure enough, two hours later I got a call saying it was ready! The sitting area seems a bit small so larger crowd wouldn't fit here well. I was disappointed that they had a restroom but was for employees only. I mean why would you have a sign that said restroom and tell us we can't go in there. Not like your employees would get lost in the store and not know where the bathroom. Their ice cream are good compare to the store bought tubs you get from the supermarket. The flavor are pretty much your basic flavors and some invent flavor but nothing too outrageous. I love this Cold Stone's Creamery location, and the owners- Mike Salas and his wife. Not only have my husband and I been here to just enjoy the ice-cream, but we also contacted Mike Salas to make our wedding cake for us recently on June 19th 2016!!! (Yes you can have ice-cream cake for your wedding and eat it too!) Mike went above and beyond, and invited us to the store to taste different cake combinations, so that we could build our own four-layer cake for the wedding. He used fondant to make sure the cake wouldn't melt too fast, and even decorated the cake to look like bark (we were having a nature-themed wedding). He drove out all the way to our wedding location on the top of the berkeley hills, and stayed until he confirmed that we were ready to eat the cake and were satisfied! We will certainly come back to Cold Stones in Hayward- whether it be to enjoy ice-cream or just give Mike and his wife another big hug. Ah, I remember my days working at an ice cream store - absolutely horrible, customers are goddamn stupid and entitled especially the 30+ year olds, and the blatant sexism and abuse of power by male managers and restaurant owners who get away with doing whatever the fuck they want. Anyways, I'm giving it a 3 stars (they deserve 5/5 stars) for the poor girls working there trying their best while being verbally accused, bordering verbally assault, by their horrific and hellish manager... I'd give the manager a 1/5 for unprofessionalism and his power-trip over those girls. I regret only tipping one of them after I saw what he put them through and wanted to tip the rest of them but he had them snared in his stupid little hands (haha). Let me elaborate (skip to the TLDR at the bottom): My partner and I went last Wednesday (3/21/18) for a spur of the moment ice cream trip in the afternoon. Maybe it helps that we're both milennials but we don't come to common stores or restaurants expecting 5 star quality like some of the dildos that do lmao. One of the girls actually greeted us when we entered (because we didn't respond to her, she got chewed out by that cretin of a manager later I'm sorry!!) and I got my ice cream and it was fine, no issues at all. Hell, she was actually pretty nice and cheery given how unappreciated working a minimum wage food service job is. When we sat down that's when it got really weird, uncomfortable, and intense. The portly white manager throughout our time was either harshly criticizing one girl or yelling at another. I guess he was training one or more of them but it was beyond embarrassing for both the customers (there were two other tables with customers) and for the poor girls. He forced one of them to sing the company's songs (which I didn't even know Cold Stone has) while slamming one of the ice cream scoopers violently on the table in front of her). He told one girl "if you're leaning you've got time for cleaning" which god damn.... reminds me of how stupid America is for not letting employees sit or even catch a break (especially since there weren't customers coming in at that time). I think he finally caught on that he was being noticed by the customers sitting down because he tried to quietly tell one girl who he was pretending to be a customer for (and yelled at her for not greeting him loud enough AND then at the wrong time?? What the hell dude??) "I don't want to be doing this in front of customers so we'll do this later." He went over to every table EXCEPT ours which had customers and personally greeted them and chatted them up. When he got to ours (at the end of his path nearest to the door) he just met my eyes and walked past. I think he knew I saw his BS haha just kidding. Just infuriating that people like him get off on his power over others who cannot and don't have the positions of fighting back for themselves lest they lose their jobs. He and other managers should realize that negative reinforcement, berating people, and publicly humiliating those beneath their power doesn't really lead to good yelp reviews. But maybe I'm the only one who cares enough to write too much since I remember working under assholes too. TLDR: please be nice to the girls working there because their asshole manager puts them through fucking inane and ridiculous situations. Just this one time I went specifically told the African girl working there I wanted a love it shake with vanilla, extra graham cracker, marshmallows and a Twix. I seen here put the vanilla ice cream and 1 tiny Twix inside then blended never seen her put anything else inside and asked her when she gave me my shake if she put Graham cracker and marshmallows inside as well and said yes she did. Then come to find out she lied and didn't put it in.
