Made a quick coffee run after getting baked goods in the area. I got the pistachio latte with almond milk. It was delicious and also tried their peppermint cold brew with oat milk which was also very good! I like this colectivo... it's big and airy with lots of seating choices both inside and out. There's a bar to sit at against the window, outdoor patio tables, and in summer they often raise the big garage windows on the south side of the place. Attached is also the "backroom" - a surprisingly big attached concert type venue with its own bar and restrooms (shout out to the sinisterhood podcast live show I saw here). Colectivo developed an app around the time of the pandemic and while super buggy at the time it works way better now. They have raised their prices somewhat in the past couple years but so have alot of places. They remain my reliable "coffee and muffin bike stop" in the milwaukee area. read more

This is such a beautiful coffee shop! Great for getting aesthetic coffee and studying. The ambiance here is 10/10, its absolutely gorgeous and rustic. I feel like I'm in a Hawaiian rainforest. The service was great too, awesome staff and so friendly. When you dine in for coffee, ask them to serve if in a porcelain cup. So cute. The reason why I took off a star is because of the horrible-tasting coffee I got. I got a Ginger Snap seasonal flavored coffee and it was disgusting, I couldn't even finish it. I wasnt sure what I was expecting, but it was so hard to drink for me... Also, I came there to study and none of the outlets were working!! I know there are multiple locations for Colectivo, but this on in particular is special as it has a music venue in back. It's worth keeping an eye on who is performing when here. Otherwise, it is a friendly and welcoming coffee shop with a great selection of coffee and teas as well as food. I appreciate the availability of seats for working and hanging out in this shop. HOW have I never been here? I am an avid Colectivo'er (yep, just made that a word), so I've spent *a lot* of time at most all of the other locations around the city. However, today is my first time at this lovely spot. The energy here is great - very calm and relaxing with good jams playing over the speakers and coffee aromas all around. You can choose to sit inside near the cafe and counter itself, or in the partial outside space which is a total greenhouse vibe including plants, a glass skylight ceiling, and huge open garage door looking out to the street. On this brisk summer morning, I chose the quasi-outdoor space. Peep their menu that has all the yummy Colectivo fixings, including a delicious assortment of cafe eats, smoothies, snack, bowls, and lunches. An almond milk matcha latte in hand, as per usual, I've been posted up all morning reading + working. Happy Friday to me! read more

I'm not at this Colectivo as much as some of the others due to circumstances, proximity, etc. All the Colectivos have the same food and drinks but each one has its own unique character. One of the Prospect one's main claims may be, unfortunately, that it's one of the busiest I've been to, and it can get crowded. There's plenty of seating, it just seems to get a lot of traffic. It's good that they're able to accommodate a lot of customers, but sometimes it's hard to find a place to sit. Being fairly close to UWM, it attracts a lot of students studying, many of them with laptops. And it's appointed well for that, with plenty of two-top tables and outlets to plug into as well. I also like the outside area that can be closed in in the winter months. It's well shaded enough to not get too hot in the summer and then in the winter they don't lose the extra seating. If in the North/Prospect area this is a good place for a coffee (or matcha latte) or a bite to eat. Like the other Colectivos they play pretty good music as well. read more

True to that vision, Colectivo's are always just a little bit funky while still offering consistency. This location is no different. Their space is large windowed and welcoming. Their patio is tucked away so that you feel protected from the elements while still feeling like you're outside (pretty brilliant). And, of course, they brew the coffee quickly and deliciously. I visit this cafe atleast 4 times a week to get my daily dose of caffeinated beverages. All of their drinks are spectacular and of the highest quality. My go to drink is the Matcha Pistachio drink. Its a perfect blend of earthyness from matcha and sweetness from the pistachio! Highly recommend any matcha lovers to try the drink. VERY DISSAPPIONTED!!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Cancelled my subscription. I have been receiving Colectivo Coffee subscription for over 6 months and all of the sudden was charged shipping. My orders have been consistently over $40 to meet their free shipping requirements. On my most recent shipment, I was charged $11.45 for shipping on an order of $44.88. The person I spoke with (Elizabeth) claims that the free shipping only applies to order $45 or greater and that Colectivo did an audit which determined that they were not charging customer for shipping correctly. That the free shipping has always applied to $45 or greater. I was not notified and am charged $11.45 for a $.12 difference??? The rep. was combative and unwilling to work with me on this. This was one of the worst coffee shops in Milwaukee. I used to love Colectivo (formally Alterra) but this location in particular is absolute trash. Employees are SO rude and clearly do not want to assist you. One of the girls at the front disgustingly coughed in front of me without covering her face, or sanitizing herself afterwards. I was here for a concert in their back room. I've heard good things about this space for shows. Upon entering I thought the space looked great. As we got closer to the stage area, we noticed the tables were not placed the way they were when the tickets were purchased. The tables were supposed to be two rows in the front, standing room behind the tables. Instead the tables were broken up in two rows on the sides, with standing room in the middle. Though the issue with this is that standing room proceeded to spread out and stand right in front of the tables. The people assigned to the first tables, literally had butts in their faces. Fortunately for us, our table was further back and we decided to stand up to see better. For a better experience, it should be either all standing, no tables or they should stick to the chart they show people with the tables in front and standing room in back. Overall, it's a neat space with lights strung across the ceiling - an intimate place to catch a show. I also like that you can grab a beer from their bar or get a beverage from the coffee shop area. read more

This review is solely based on The Back Room at Colectivo. What a super cool and intimate venue. Came here to watch Jens Lekman play and it's a perfect spot for someone like him. The entire backroom is open with some seating available. The coffee shop is still open for the concert, but they also have a bar with pre-made whiskey drinks and a variety of beer. There's a platform that's set up as the stage, so you can stand really close to the performers if you want. The sound carried excellently. Glad I drove up to watch Jens in this venue! read more

First just want to say a majority of the basic level staff here have always been very kind so this review is not against them. But the other day I paid over $6.00 for what on the menus was stated to be an Egg and Cheese English muffin with egg frittata, spinach, smoked cheddar cheese and some sort of sauce. The sandwich I got was gross, cheese didn't taste like cheddar I mean it was basically an egg mic muffin but FAR WORSE. I usually don't return food for tasting bad as I took the chance with ordering it but I was told it would have spinach and some sort of sauce. As you can see in MY picture and the websites picture it had none of that. Since I had to go to work with no time to run back and have them make a new one or refund me I called collectivo and asked for my money back (I paid in cash). The Manager said I could come back and get my refund. Well they close at 5 and my work ends at 5 (which I explained to her on the phone) I had to come the next day. When I arrived for my refund the manager was rude and made snark comments about how they weren't expecting me today despite the fact that I said I had work the prior day. The manager tried to claim that the product I ordered was nothing like what they had on the menu so I had to verbally recite what was stated above him on the menu just to get my refund. The manager was rude and acted like I was bothering him and like I didn't have a legitimate complaint (even though I purposely came at a non busy time so it wouldn't bother them). I've worked in fast food and was always apologetic instead of defensive like this guy. I learned my lesson and will not be back there. I suggest if you to go here just get the coffee or see a show. You're better off not eating breakfast than regretting waisting your money and feeling like a nuisance if they mess up YOUR order. read more

Stopped at this local coffee shop while in town for business as I love to shop and support local businesses every where I can. The matcha latte was delicious, frothy and smooth however their blueberry lemon scone had a lot to be desired; minimal flavor for sure. A perfect spot for an afternoon coffee, especially when the weather is nice. I loved the eclectic decor and the plants hanging from the ceiling. They were out of cold brew when we came, which is kind of a bummer for a coffeehouse but we made due. There were plenty of food and bakery items to choose from. Perfect coffee house vibe here! I'd never been to a Collectivo (or the formerly Alterra) but this is the kind of atmosphere I am always on the lookout for in a coffee shop; a place with friendly baristas where you can comfortably and efficiently get down to business, study or chill out. The shop itself is definitely set up with Marquette students in mind, with a long table in the center of the main room fully equipped with a lamp and outlets at every single seat! In addition to that, there is more wall seating available along the sides of said room, plus a whole second room off the main room with rows of tables more conducive to dining and chatting. The main room almost had a library kind of feel to it. I distinctly remember keeping it to about a whisper as people were clearly studying, while the secondary room just felt more "talky". During my visit, my friend and I were able to indulge in an espresso, a latte, a hot cider and several bakery items. Let me just say- don't skip the biscotti. So delicious and maybe even a bit thick for some people, but I loved it as it is perfect for dunking in a hot beverage. Oh, you will surely break a tooth on that baby without a dunk. I had the chocolate chip biscotti, then before leaving picked up a second one to go, as well as a cinnamon pecan variety. I am likely to get that at every visit. On to the drinks! I'm new to ordering just an espresso, and I found my double shot a little strong for my personal tastes. After all, I am a latte girl...which is why I ordered both. ;) My honey latte could have used more honey, but the espresso/milk in there was on point; a very nice, mellow, soothing effect with just the perfect amount of foam. And if you like hot apple cider, this place had the best I've ever had. Steeped like a tea, using a bag of apple pieces and other aromatics and spices, it was just perfect, and not too sweet (definitely less sweet than Starbucks- which I used to love, btw). I would have a hard time not ordering the hot apple cider now that I know of its existence. So the drinks we now know are good, but did I mention the cups?? Aaaaaadorable! Are you a graphic designer? Are you a day of the dead fan? Are you both, like me?? The paper cups are uber cute and I actually chose the size of my latte based on what cup design I would get. Hello gorgeous sugar skull! I even kept and washed my cup at home and it now is prominently used as decor on a dining room shelf! Yes, it's clear I love the cups. ;) Also noteworthy, they sell actual reusable cups with said designs, but I was definitely too cheap that day, but a normal (non dork-able) person would buy a reusable cup instead of washing out a paper one. In fact, their entire little gift shop can be seen as you walk in, full of cute mugs and apparel that I was very tempted to buy. I've already gone on too long, but I have to mention there's a patio out front in warm weather, and you're practically in a rainforest in the main room. Look up above you and you will see daylight streaming in amidst a bazillion tropical plants hanging down from the rafters. My first thought was: Yikes, Rainforest Cafe, but these were real and not cheesy, adding more oxygen into our lovely environment. So yes, it's easy to see why I loved this Collectivo. Having never been to another location, I'm curious what the next one I go to will be like. I can't imagine it topping this experience. Poor layout, no seating, noisy street outside, same-old alterra coffee. They may have plans to improve this location now that the roasting has moved, but for now I think it stinks. Out of all the Colectivos, this is probably one of my FAVORITE locations. Coffeehouses in general make studying, writing papers, and otherwise being inside on nice days more tolerable. This Colectivo, however, brings the indoors outdoors with this patio and giant door that opens. I have the best of all worlds here: outdoors and outlets. I can write some of my massive thesis in peace without fear of my computer dying and with a soft, warm breeze coming in. I just adore this spot!
