I want to like the place cuz the menu is on the creative side. But I cannot overlook the fact that they forget about me every time I order food here. The third (and final) time I tried the place, it took them 20 minutes to get me their basic egg sandwich. The reason being that they handed my sandwich to some pasty hipster chick who fit the look of clientele this place is obviously catering to. I wanted to come in about 40 min earlier than my friend so I could do some studying. I told the host that I would be waiting for my friend and just wanted a cup of coffee while I wait. The waiter brought me my coffee and I began to study. I had not even finished my coffee and this man came over and introduced himself as the owner. He said that since the restaurant was very busy, he would need me to leave to accommodate other patrons. I was quite shocked and obviously upset, so to smoothen the situation, he said the coffee is on the house. I was still upset and told him I walked 15 min the cold to eat here and wait for my friend, he apologized and said there was nothing he could do. I told him he lost a loyal customer as I come there quite frequently with my friends and girlfriend and that by trying to make a couple extra dollars, he effectively lost thousands in the long run if I continued coming there over the years. Update: the owner apologies profusely and gave me a major discount on my meal. I hope this situation doesn't happen again to anyone. read more

Colina Cuervo is a very pretty, light-filled café offering Ecuadorian and other Latin American based dishes. I saw yummy looking sandwiches, omelettes, a quinoa salad, tamales and empanadas on the menu. Their pastries are awesome and come from the delicious Bien Cuit bakery in Boerum Hill. I will definitely be coming back for brunch on a weekend. The service was super friendly. Leaving the best for last: the coffee! They serve Counter Culture Coffee and they REALLY know what they are doing with it. Best cappuccino I've had in Brooklyn. I'm very happy this place opened in the neighborhood. read more

I really don't know what to say other than "amazing." I've been there at least 3-4 times and I love it more each time. The service is consistent, the staff are friendly; the baker even checks in with people occasionally to see how they like the baked goods. The last couple times I've gone, I got the butternut squash salad with chorizo. Oh my god, that is my heaven. The coffee is good, not too bitter or thin. The carrot cake is also AWESOME. Maybe I had high hopes for this place? Being Ecuadorian and a barista myself I loved the idea of Ecuadorian food and a coffee shop half a mile away from home when a friend told me about it a few weeks ago. I decided to check it out on my day off. The space is nice and clean. Pretty floors and some greenery. The concept is coffee shop and eatery. I'm convinced, but definitely not a restaurant. The barista wasn't very engaging but I actually like that. I asked about their pour overs and he had no clue of the offerings, there wasn't a menu for that either. He clearly didn't know what he was doing once I ordered something. The coffee was average. After I finished the coffee I had a muffin. It was good. I don't eat big portions like most Americans but I'm sure most people would say it was too small. When looking at their food menu and I saw empanadas. This being a very standard snack, I try my luck with it. I waited for it for about 10 minutes, it was warm on top and cold at the bottom. Definitely not fresh but I didn't expect it to be, I just wanted it to be hot. Had they made it hot, it would have been pretty damn tasty. Lukewarm, not so much. There was one other employee working the front of house, a lovely short girl who was very accommodating and was clearly enjoying her job. She's the main reason for the 3 stars. read more

I was disappointed in the service! I have been patronizing this establishment since it first opened. I worked through COVID and beyond and have noticed a complete disregard for the customer's needs. I placed two orders this week for pick up, and they were both wrong. The first time was drinks made with regular milk vs. oat milk. We are lactose intolerant, so into the sink they went. Then today, I requested cold drinks like I always do, and they came hot. I called to advise, and the comment was well; the order taken said hot, ok, superb, but that's not what I requested. I should have prefaced this by saying that I am working from home now and have to drive to patronize. Not fantastic if you are patiently waiting for your spouse to bring in your favorite drink that keeps you up during long hours! I am disappointed in their cavalier response to their mistakes and the inept individuals who seem to think no biggie; we made a mistake! Hey, wake up, people. Nostrand Avenue is hosting an eclectic variety of awesome restaurants. I kept passing by this restaurants with intentions to try and finally did. I had the chicken empanada which was delicious. The crust was perfect and meat well flavored. It comes with two garnishes that were delectably complimentary. We love this place and come often. The coffee (and baristas) are of the best quality, and the pastries are almost all made in-house. The apple pie empanada is delicious. The menu is also great, and the prices are good for generous portions. I often have the ensalada de casa with lots of delicious roasted veggies, quinoa and avocado, while my toddler loves the pancakes with chorizo. The owner is always kind and welcoming, and the staff is consistently attentive and accommodating. On quiet mornings, they never mind if I hang out for a while with my computer, and refill my water over and over. This place is great and I can't say enough good things about it! read more

What a delightful find on Nostrand for a quick, healthy lunch. Our family had the Buttermilk Pancakes with Chorizo (very flavorful), the Baked Empanadas, Tamales, and Ensalada De La Casa and they were all great! My grandson devoured a large portion of Granola and Greek Yogurt with berries and honey, enough so he earned an Apple Empanada. Moreover, the coffee was delicious. The chef brought us something special that you dipped Plantain Chips into and it was packed with flavor and was a real treat. Although there really is not much seating, we were not rushed. This place is lovely and fairly reasonable in price considering that the coffee, tea selection and food is very good. Also the staff is attentive and very friendly. I've only been there a few times, but they remember me and my preferences, which was a pleasant surprise in New York. Great addition to the neighborhood. We had a delightful lunch here late in the afternoon. I had the soup, and my wife had the mushroom melt. Both were served hot, home made and very fresh. Even though there was a line waiting at the counter for coffee, the staff greeted us as we entered and worked to find us a seat. Service was friendly without being pushy. This place is a delightful find. We walked here from the Botanical Gardens, and there is easy access to the MTA, too. I really like this quaint addition to the neighborhood. I like that they are able to serve food as soon as they are open. I have not tried their dishes yet; I will soon. I do, however have been ordering Americanos; I've gotten both a decaf and a regular at different visits. They also offer a Café Cubano. Service is attentive and friendly. There are a variety of baked goods behind a glass display on your right (as you walk in). I got an almond croissant and it was a nice compliment to my drink. This is one of my favorite places to work: I can grab coffee (I'm a fan of the horchata latte) and a small, but satisfying meal (the roasted pork sandwich is my go-to). The torta del chorizo is also amazing with quite a bit of heat to it! I also quite enjoy the plato equatoriano (sp) and the pancakes. Seating is limited sometimes and it gets cramped with the brunch crowd, but if you come in the late afternoon, it shouldn't be an issue. Wouldn't recommend for large groups. read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Went at around 10:30 and got a table right away. I got a cup of coffee and the mushroom melt! It was awesome except I was really disappointed when the mushrooms were normal baby bellas instead of the shiitake I was promised. They should change their menu description for the mushroom melt. Went here for a morning latte and breakfast. It's relatively close to my apartment and I wanted to explore more of my new neighborhood. I found this place on yelp which had a cool latin american inspired menu for your usual brunch items. The cafe is cute and quaint, not a lot of seating for big parties - so if you do want to come and sit down make sure you prepare to wait. I decided to get mine to-goed but found a counter stool to dine at. I ordered the maple latte and got it iced - it was very refreshing and sweet! Great treat for a Saturday morning. I also got a avocado and egg sandwich which was made very generous with a lot of slices of avocado seasoned with lime juice, pickled red onions, cilantro, pico de gallo, and nice fluffy eyes. I can't wait to try the other items on the menu such as the pancakes and the vegan baked goods! The owner or manager was very kind and helped me find the open seat.
