DOES SHODDY WORK, THEN LIES ABOUT IT ON YELP. Angelo's comment from 11/19/13 on my original review (below) includes multiple lies and misleading statements. (In case Angelo deletes or changes his comment, to hide his lies, see here for a screenshot: http://picpaste.com/pics/Screenshot_2013-11-19_15.55.10.1384905585.png ) Here's what he wrote, followed by my delineation of the lies and misleading statements it includes: Angelo wrote: "Upon the original check list it was pointed out that the vehicle was leaking oil." My response: This is an outright lie. That was never pointed out to me. I have the original check list the mechanic filled out. The only thing that's written on it is, "Missing bolts hydrolines. CV boot. Timing OK." Nothing about a leak. In fact, in the "fluids (level, condition, leaks)" section of the inspection sheet, the mechanic checked the box labeled "checked and okay." If you don't believe me, see a scan of the inspection checklist they gave me at http://picpaste.com/pics/Collaco_inspection.1384903090.jpg Angelo wrote: "It was stated that due to large saturation we were not able to pinpoint the leak." My response: This is also an outright lie. It never happened. Angelo wrote: "We recommended adding a uv dye wich was declined at this time." My response: This is also an outright lie. It never happened. Angelo wrote: "On the matter of rear brakes this vehicle is equipped with rear drum brakes and was stated to the customer that additional labor would be needed to remove rear drums wich was also declined at this time." My response: This is true, but misleading. If you read my original review (below), you see that I paid $90 for the inspection, which I assume is their hourly rate, but they spent only about 20 minutes inspecting the vehicle. My regular mechanic was able to inspect the rear drum brakes in less than 5 minutes. It strikes me as really cheap for them to demand extra to inspect this, when I already paid them for more time than they spent inspecting the vehicle. Angelo wrote: "There is no such part as racks and pinions for both front axles only one rack and pinion wich [sic] is for the steering and according to my notes is also stated that the boots were torn." My response: This is misleading. The torn boot has nothing to do with the fact that they failed to spot the broken rack and pinion. Whether "rack and pinion" is plural or singular is irrelevant (I never claimed to be a car expert; I only meant to imply that both sides of the rack and pinion were broken); the point is that they failed to spot it, and now my girlfriend needs to spend more than $500 to repair it. Angelo wrote: "My goal at Collaco Auto Repair is to provide every customer with the best car repair experience and even though the inspection was performed as described prior to the inspection" My response: This is misleading. For $90 (their hourly rate, I assume), I expected a full inspection, for a full hour (or a prorated rate). Instead, they didn't even bother to take the tires off. If they had told me that they wouldn't take the tires off, as part of $90 inspection, I would have taken my car elsewhere. Angelo wrote: "I was not able to appease Mr M. I offerred him a full refund and also a free oil change in an attempt to prove my good intentions." My response: This is a lie, at worst, or misleading, at best. In response to my original Yelp review, Angelo sent me a message, in which he wrote, "I have personally taken care of the issues that you experienced with us and will assure you this type of service will not continue. This is not the type of treatment I encourage in my shop... Again I appoligize [sic] on behalf of our business... Please come in and recieve a complimenatry [sic] oil change on us or a full refund for the service you were not properly provided." As you can see, he admitted that his shop was at fault, and that that was the reason for the refund, not "to prove his good intentions." Angelo wrote: "Mr. M. left [sic] me to believe he would in turn retract his review and upon recieving payment he did not." My response: This is a lie. I led him to believe no such thing. He did write, "And if you are ever in the area I will extend the offer for a free oil change for your incovenience. I would like to ask if you could please remove this review it would greatly be appreciated." I never responded to his request to remove the review. Later in the conversation, he wrote, "You should be recieving the check shortly if you have not yet recieved it. Upon reciept of the check can you please remove/update these reviews." My response? "Will do, as soon as the check clears." I never said I'd remove the review. What I did do, as promised, was to update the review (see below), as well as change from one star to two stars, in response to the refund and apology. But now that he is lying and misleading, I have removed the extra star. read more

After going to the dealership and feeling like I was being lied to and cheated out of a lot of money I decided to get a second opinion with Collaco Auto Repair and let me tell you I am beyond satisfied! Took my car in yesterday to get my oil changed and have them take a look at my cigarette lighter that stopped working. A mechanic named Angelo immediately took care of me changed the oil and explained to me what was wrong with the cigarette lighter and then fixed it within 5 minutes. I was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. When I went to pay he only charged me for the oil change and said not to worry about the fuse he had replaced for my cigarette lighter. I have to say I was very pleased with my experience they treated me better than any dealership and I will definitely return for any future services. read more

I was referred to these Mechanics by my friend Wendy B. as a great place to take my daughters 2006 VW Beetle about a year ago. I have since had a few minor repairs made there and everything was explained so thoroughly and professionaly. They are very down to earth people and I was very impressed with the work they did and the service they gave. Recently a couple of issues came up with the car and everything needed to be repaired in a certain time frame as my daughter is moving out of the area for school. They went over and above with the service it required, making sure they checked every single componant of the car so that it was safe for my daughter to be driving. They even delivered the car to her, as I was out of town. Please know that if you have a Volkswagon I highly recommend you bringing it to this Father/Son duo as I have never had such incredible caring service from any auto repair business. I brought my 2004 Mazda 6 in for a check engine light. They checked it and told me what was needed to be repaired, I wasn't able to leave it and I had to come back a couple days later and leave it. I have a pretty busy schedule so it's hard to take my car to get fixing in the mornings but these guys were the only ones in town that open early at 7am so I thought I would give them a try. Boy am I thankful. They diagnosed my car in 20 minutes and thoroughly explained to me what was going on so as to be completely transparent unlike a lot of auto repair shops. It's a family owned business and the customer service was great. The young gentlemen even called my cell phone just to let me know that it needed one more day to have the car part delivered. He schedule an early appointment and boom in and out and not even late to work. I would highly recommend these guys. read more

I took my 2013 Jetta TDI to get its 40,000 mile service at Collaco Auto Repair this week and upon arriving at my scheduled time Angelo took the car in and went over what work would be done and as well as what maintenance procedures were recommended but not mandatory as well as what the costs of each one would be. Angelo then gave me a time frame of when the work would be done and what the costs would be. When Angelo was done with my car in the time window he provided and he reviewed everything that he did as well as let me know that he did not rotate my tires because I needed new ones and subtracted that from my cost instead of charging me for work he did not do. I will continue to bring my Jetta to Angelo and recommend him to my friends because of the Quality work and the great customer service he provided. read more

I drive a VW New Beetle (Diesel). It was not easy to find someone who can work on my car. Angelo made me feel like he was looking out for me, not just servicing my car. I had him do an inspection to see what service I might need in anticipation of a thousand mile plus road trip. When I returned for the inspection report he walked me over to the car and showed me what needed servicing, explaining each thing to me with respect for my intelligence. I greatly appreciated both how I was treated and the quality of the service. My car had so much more power after he did the tune up and repairs. And he is a really good human being.
