I had issues with the check engine light staying on, water pump leaking, a starter problem, AC blowing hot air and the fuel gauge not working. We visited Pep Boys in Contra Costa a while back for a dead battery for our van. They replaced our battery with one that was too small for the vehicle which most likely caused a number of things to go wrong. Carlos was able to diagnose our issues, find a few other ones and handle them quickly. While the cost to diagnose the problems was a bit high, but I am super confident that he got us sorted out. I have never been to a mechanic that was so communicative and made things easy to understand and set the expectations so well. Great service and very fair! Recently my truck had some electrical issues. It was one of those things that wouldn't do it when you showed it to a mechanic but a day later would have the problem when no one was around. I don't know where to begin, because this has been "a long strange trip". In March of 2023 my GMC pickup was parked on the street in San Francisco and was broken into with the goal of stealing it. The thief used a grinder - idiot/s - to saw off the ignition, and in the process did extensive damage to the ignition system. For 14 months I went from shop to shop (towing) to get the vehicle up and running. Some mechanics didn't want to touch it. Others couldn't figure out what was wrong, others still seemed to be in cahoots with my insurance company. Then finally I found Carlos with Auto Electric and Fuel. The first moment I spoke with Carlos, I relaxed. He reassured me that he would find the problem and fix it, despite me protesting by saying, "I don't really believe it can be done." He also said that once it was fixed he would guarantee the work. Relief! Now be aware, his diagnostic was not cheap. But in this case, you really get what you pay for. Having your vehicle down for 14 months and paying for ill fated diagnostics from other mechanics isn't cheap either. His notes were absolutely detailed. He systematically tested each and every part of my ignition system. I have never seen that level of diagnostic by a mechanic. When I told him that the insurance company was denying my claim, he wrote me a letter to give to the insurance company detailing why the repair should be covered and refuted their (very bogus) grounds for denial. That's right, a shop that will actually stand up for the consumer and not the insurance company. Auto Electric is a rare bird, and one that should be appreciated in this day and age. I posted the original incident 4months ago and since filed a formal report w/ The State Bureau of Automotive Repair who investigated this mechanic shop and my claim founding it to be a truthful. And that in fact this shop was responsible for the damages "vandalism" done to my vehicle while in this shop. Thanks to DCA and the police report filed as well, I was refunded for the vandalism by Auto Electric & Fuel. I suggest anyone trusting there vehicle to this shop beware, and take a close inspection of your own; as they may leave needing more work then necessary. My headlight wasn't working and needed a small part replaced. The part cost 39.88. They charged me $370.00 in labor. . . That is $370 for "replacing the low beam headlight connector"!!!!!! See photo of the piece. They (Carlos) also quoted me over $900 to replace the entire headlight assembly, which he HIGHLY recommended I do, and over $600 to replace my coolant tubes. The tubes cost $68 online and there's a 2 minute YouTube video for how to do it. I will not be going back to these guys. read more

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. Her name is Brandy. She's a fantastic vehicle that never had any major breakdowns, but was deteriorating with age. She sat unused for years. Turns out I needed to drive her across the state and deep within the Sierra mountains on a 1 lane rd that is known for being one of the roughest roads in California. I did not hesitate. Recently I needed to drop my suv off to have a random issue with my turn signals working and not working repaired. I didn't know if it was old wiring that needed replacement or what it could be as my vehicle is almost twenty years old. I dropped it off on Thursday with plans to pick it up the next day because of the randomness of the problem which could necessitate some time to find it and diagnose the issue. The lady Michelle ( I think that was her name) at the front desk was super nice and helpful. I came in around 1:15 pm and told her my tail light wasn't going on and I tried replacing the bulb already. To my surprise, she took me in right away. She explained every detail about what needed to be done and even showed me 2 other bulbs that weren't working. I waited inside and was offered coffee, water, or soda but I said " no thank you". I liked how at the end she gave me a print out of everything and was very personable and understanding. I feel like customer service is very important and she nailed it. 2003 Lexus is awesome but getting old and needs regular attention, and Carlos just came through for us once again. I had a check engine light on for over 3 months and I had exhausted all possibilities I took it to over three different shops without any end to this problem in sight, I finally broke down and took it into Carlos and he said it would be $390 just for the diagnosis!?! Needless to say I wasn't happy to hear this since I have already fixed the problems that the code was telling me. I took a moment to decide but since this car is my pride and joy (black 350Z 2008 nismo edition) I had no choice but to find what the actual problem was. To make a long story a bit shorter let's just say it was a wise investment in Carlos and his team! They found a few problems that other mechanics were unable or unwilling to find, fist of all the back O2 sensors needed replacing (as i thought would be ther case) as well as both catalytic converters, as well as a lot of other small wiring and other problems that were causing the car to not run or communicate properly. This was not a cheap or quick fix but Carlos made me feel at ease by explaining exactly where the problem lies and what the solution to that problem is, and this could not be done by the 3 other best mechanics that I've been doing business with. We own a 2004 Lincoln Town Car, which my wife loves. We started having electrical problems with it a couple of years ago. The problems kept getting worse to the point where we couldn't keep the car alarm from going off. We called the local dealer and explained the problems and they never even called back. We found Carlos brought the car to him and gave him the long list of electrical problems. Carlos gave us a detailed estimate and explained that there would be a lot of trouble shooting to figure this out. We got the car back last week and he fixed everything on the list and replaced a cracked intake manifold on the cooling system that we hadn't know about but that definitely needed replacing.
