This was my first visit. I hear their commercials on the radio all the time. Full disclosure I normally go to a different cafeteria style restaurant in Tucker. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. But there was something missing...aromatic smells. Even this was noticed by someone else in line. Then finally seeing the prices I was floored. For a non table service restaurant the prices are high. I ordered meatloaf, collards, Mac & cheese with cornbread. The meatloaf was super salty. I never think something is salty. And in an unusual way it was tasteless. I know they don't go together. The collards were bland. And the mac & cheese was underwhelming. I really wanted to like this restaurant but I can't honestly say that I will ever be back. I wish them well and hope there are improvements. read more

Had this several times, went through the drive thru and had no complaints. I'm critical about other ppls spaghetti and there's was okay. Everything was about until my third visit. I went inside. I gave another try to the collard green calf and nothing has changed. I had the pig feet and they were mediocre. No real flavor The Mac and cheese was terrible the noodles were mushy too over cooked but the flavor was as if they cooked it with chicken broth because it had a lot of cheese in it but the only flavor you could taste is chicken. Appearances First: With the number of cars in the lot I immediately thought, "I'm gonna have to get this to go" But after walking in, I noticed lots of empty tables and a line to the door. I edged in and waited patiently to order. The dining room was OVER decorated with silk and plastic greenery which at first glance look like swags of dead flowers hanging upside down. The menu board was hard to understand as they had everything on the menu listed (some with prices/some without). The layout of the dining room seemed cluttered with lots of dead space in awkward angles. The hot bar line was very short and it seemed as if the cashier was standing in a utility closet. The layout could use a shift or spatial upgrade. I originally wanted fried whiting fish and grits, and after telling me they were out of fish, instead of suggeting a different type of fish (salmon, tilapia, perch??) I settled for the shrimp. It took about twenty minutes to get to the hot bar and another twenty minutes to get my order. As I waited I made note of the picture of the shrimp and grits. Finally Inpaid and also got a handmade blueberry lemonade. I wanted a slice of cake but after watching a lady touch each container before choosing her slice, I declined. It smelled like a fry station when I visited and no other smells like cinnamon from the yams, pepper and onions, only chicken and fish. Personally I like my shrimp sautéed in a pan to sear with seasonings and a little butter, but these were more Mobile AL style than New Orleans NO. The rue was flavorful, and the shrimp was cooked well (not split down the back) and the peppers and onions rounded out the gravy. The grit to Shrimp ratio was overkill and after eating all the shrimp, peppers and onions, I was left with a tray of wet, undercooked flavorless grits. I literally mixed in the remaining gravy from the shrimp and they STILL needed more salt, pepper, butter and onion powder. So I decided to save it and cook it for a few more minutes . I'll post an update as I plan on going during the week to see if a slower day will yield better results read more

Today my coworker and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Collard Green Café's new location. I ordered the pork chops, lima beans, and macaroni and cheese. The pork chops were delicious and the Lima beans were very tasty and the mac & cheese was cheesy. This place is a veteran-owned and run eatery that specializes in southern and soul food cooking. It is superb. When you walk in and stand in front of the food warming in serving counter areayour eyes will immediately fixate on what grabs your attention -- yes the food is even great to look at with the eye. The meatloaf stole my taste buds on sight and the taste didn't disappoint. The collard green café I'm sits in a subsection of a large shopping center conveniently located right next to the main road which itself is close to the interstate. I've only had a few bites of my turkey wings on rice with gravy. I felt the need to review. It is amazing! Duluth doesn't offer too many places with fried pork chops that aren't smothered. My husband and I came for the pork chops, but I'm loving the turkey wings plate! The place was a far drive from where I live, especially during rush hour. I kept saying "this place better be worth it". I'm definitely not disappointed. I got the collard greens and green beans for my sides. Sweet potatoes and cabbage for his. It's all delicious. The cabbage has red bell peppers, which give it pop of color and added flavor. The sweet potatoes has minced nuts in it, so I can't detect what tree nut it is. It's the best restaurant sweet potatoes I've have yet; sweet, but not too sweet. The green beans are my favorite. They are seasoned and cooked perfectly. The store is small and has a few tables. The bathrooms are clean. The staff is nice. I will be back when I get a hankering for some delicious and tender turkey wings! read more

I see the billboard on my way to work, and my mom saw the commercial. It's in a strip mall, and I almost missed it. When we walked into the restaurant, we received a warm welcome. You order at the counter and can see all of the fixins. Everything looks delicious, so we decided to order and share. Portion size is huge! Food was hot, fresh, and delicious! Mac and cheese was loaded with cheese and creamy. Sweet potatoes had a good balance of seasonings which also made it my dessert since I was too full to try any. Heard about this place from a friend who worked in the area. She ranted and raved about it for months and today.. I had some extra time and was starved so I drove from Hapeville all the way to Tucker to try it... I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and butter beans. (I ordered an extra side). So let's start... Pros: Meatloaf was flavorful, moist... thick sliced .. yummy... Green beans were good.. could have used more seasoning but I love that they use French green beans ... Cornbread: it was good.. tasted like Jiffy with added flour.. but it was a perfect texture and taste Cons: Mashed potatoes were the Instant out of the box kind... they did have gravy so that made up for it a little bit but overall it lacked flavor and the fact that this is a soul food spot using instant mashed potatoes didn't sit right with my soul.. The butter beans were flavorless.. and were kind of dry Sanitation.... I saw one of their team members enter the restroom with her apron on .. and this is a huge pet peeve of mine... Would I return? Yes... but ONLY if in the area and I was hungry for this type of food... I def wouldn't make the 30+ mile trek again albeit I'm not against driving for something if it's worth it.. We love coming here! They greet you when you walk in like you're one of the cast of Cheers (that reference is probably showing my age!). The food is always phenomenal - old fashioned home cooked stick to your bones and make you feel like you're home kind of cooking. We have never had anything that we didn't want to order again. We usually dine in and take our leftovers home (we ALWAYS have leftovers; the portions are gigantic!!). Although, we have noticed that most people grab and go. The dining area is cramped but well lit and clean. Everyone is so friendly and they really make you feel like one of their family - just over for supper. I love my people but they need to get their air conditioning fixed. The poor staff was drenched in sweat getting the plates ready, to the point I was nervous their sweat would drip in my platter. Line moved slow even though the food is out buffet style for the staff to pull from. I'm biased and do not like macaroni and cheese with cream of mushroom soup and little cheese. Turkey wings were beautiful but lacked flavor and were a bit dry and the gravy they put on the turkey wings was not it. The absolute best shrimp and grits of my life! My family enjoyed their dinners as well Mamas Meatloaf did not disappoint and the sides!! Mac n cheese was awesome, collard greens were flavorful, corn was delicious and the corn bread was soft and simply perfect. Drove from Lawrenceville to try this spot looking for some great soul food. Based on the reviews I had high hopes. Unfortunately I must have went on a bad day. It was extremely hot inside but nevertheless I was getting my food to go. I ordered 4 plates total 3 baked chicken and one Trout. Trout was over cooked and dried out. Mac and Cheese was over cooked as well noodles were soggy. There is no signs that there is nuts in the sweet potatoes but there was and I'm glad I had them on my plate to taste first because my son has a nut allergy. My husband saw a commercial for the place and we decided to go. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. Upon entering you are warmly greeted by a young lady with a jolly voice. She directs you to the end of the line and points out the menu on the wall. They have a pretty full menu and only some of the food is displayed in the small serving buffet, but you can ask for the other items. The space is limited but it's pretty clean looking and the tables have nice marble tops. While we were there the traffic never stopped. The line was a continuous flow of people ordering happily and all being greeted as they entered. I complimented the young lady on her great customer service. We decided to eat in. Even tho we were eating in the food was still served in styrofoam containers with small flimsy plastic forks. The food is heavy so more suitable utensils would make it easier to eat the food. Now getting to that food. It was "GREAT". I had pigs feet with sweet potatoes, Mac n cheese, collard greens and the biggest corn muffin. My husband had the turkey wings with white rice, yellow rice, collard greens and the corn muffin as well. The portions were generous. We really enjoyed our food. The only down fall was the turkey wings and pig feet were a bit dry but definitely flavorful. Oh and let me not forget about that delightgul peach cobbler. All in all I'd recommend Collard Green Cafe to anyone who loves to eat fresh delicoius homecooked food. I think about the candied yams often and can't wait to return. read more

I found this restaurant on Yelp and wanted some soul food. It was Mothers Day so I knew I had to arrive early. I arrived at 11:30 and there were approximately 10 people in line in front of me. The service snail SLOW. There was only 3 people working: One guy fixing the plates, one cashier and one guy working in the back refilling the items. The guy making the plates moved at a snails pace. If I had to draw a conclusion from his facial expression and body language, I would say he was pissed off because he had to work. The female cashier was very friendly and she greeted all of the guests. The food was good, I must admit. I had Turkey wings, greens and Mac and cheese. This was my second time eating here and I must say the first time had me repeat a visit but today 12/15/2024, made me second guess. I order the grilled shrimp plate and for 21.99 it was shrimp from Walmart frozen section size. I'm from Florida I know what shrimp looks like. Hey Everyone, I frequent this establishment a few times a year, enough to be familiar with their setup. It is a small, soul food restaurant with cafeteria-style food displays, where you look over the food choices for that day while the attendant fills your plate to order. They usually offer a great variety of well-seasoned proteins and side dishes with your choice of a bread roll or cornbread. Today, everything was just "off", meaning none of the experience from customer service to food to quality was right. Let's get into this, shall we... Customer Service: I called ahead to place a fried seafood order which is cooked fresh but not even started before I arrived so I ended up waiting almost an hour anyway. No apology or anything for the mishap. As I am waiting around, I watched the ladies do nothing work-related yet chat joyfully amongst each other and their coworkers. Some customers came in here and there. Each time the ladies were noncomplacent and offered no form of customer engagement. Did I mention they were only treating the female customers in this manner? They perked right up for the male customers which was just disgusting behavior and let me know that they were intentional in their actions. I know this is on me because I really should have left after seeing all of this, especially since I hadn't paid yet...but I stayed in hopes that the food would still be spectacular. Food Order: Since I had extra time on my hands while they went fishing for my meals, I viewed the food items on display. The pickings were slim for it to be 11:47am on a Saturday. The beef and pork proteins looked good while the few side dishes were dismal. Hence, another queue I should have abandoned this operation. I ordered 2 fried fish and shrimp combo plates which come with your choice of fish and 1 side item. My spouse and I both chose the whiting fish and wanted an additional side dish. I chose mac 'n' cheese and lima beans (because the okra stew which is usually my favorite side selection looked deplorable today). My hubby chose mac 'n' cheese and cabbage. Once the fish arrived from the back, hidden part of the kitchen, one of the ladies took her precious time in approaching me to finish assembling my order. I only had 2 plates with 4 sides (2 of which were the same item) yet it took her almost 10 minutes to gather up most of the food. It's not as if I was expecting urgency yet would have liked her to have the decency to move at a normal pace. The lady then goes on to disappear in the back with the cabbage tray for like 10 minutes without any explanation. At this point of being here almost an hour, I was finally losing my patience so I asked the other lady to switch to collard greens instead. She then asks if I'm sure because the other pan of cabbage should be coming right up soon. Honestly, I don't know how they jedi-mind communicated that to each other from across the restaurant  when they were not by each other but whatever. It would have been nice to communicate that information at first before the lady walked off while finishing up my order.  Neither lady offered the bread option and I forgot to ask out of frustration. I just hurried up and paid and finally left. Quality: My husband and I tossed most of the meal out to the trash. I asked for whiting because neither of us eat tilapia as well as we are not huge fans of catfish either. The main reason we chose to eat here today is because you have the option of picking your fish combination since it is cooked fresh to order. Apparently today instead, it was stale to take (what they want to give you). The fish and shrimp were stale and tasted old like they had been left exposed in the refrigerator or something. We tried to bite each piece to distinguish each fish option but they all tasted blah married with meh. As previously mentioned, the side dishes of the mac 'n' cheese looked bad so no surprise that they tasted worse than they looked. It was dry and tasted several days old. This was my first time here and when I walked inside I did not expect to see what I did. The place was crowded! What that means to me is usually this place serves good food, if it didn't it wouldn't be crowded. I don't know if this was a normal Saturday or just because I was in there, lol.
