The property the range is located on is right next to a busy street. So, understandably, you experience some traffic-related noise. The facility is self-propelled if you will. In other words, there is no staff, other than the public safety staff at cod who are there regularly. The range itself is in bad shape. The landscaping leaves little to be desired and the targets are difficult to see and small. But, it has a certain charm about it that gives the user a sense or reprieve and relaxation. The prices are reasonable and there is usually no wait. The hours are good too. Especially if you are an early bird. read more

Pros: -Grass -Large -Reasonably Priced -Accepts tap to pay -open late during the Deserts season Cons -No distance markers -lack of shade -open only open for a few hours in the middle of the day during the summer -tons of divots in the grass shooting area -Balls are old, used, and cracked -(this isn't really on the business but worth a note) other players do not pick up after themselves leaving tons of broken tees, trash, and buckets lying around I come here twice a week (until the switch to summer hours) and enjoy my time here. It's the cheapest driving range in the valley and will continue to get my support for its value! I get it. Everyone wants to make a buck. This comment is for the COD College of the Desert driving range. They have bays where each golfer can hit balls from. Normally, when practicing with pros or semiprofessionals there's no issue with swinging so close to each other. They are in full control of their swing and ball 99.9% of the time. However, amateur golfers are not. They are wild, careless and exhibit no etiquette or common sense when in these bays. This presents a hazard because golf equipment and balls can be deadly if struck by one. This place is an accident waiting to happen, so I must warn you. Beware! The facility would be well advised to make the bays larger to keep these amateurs as far away as possible. And this facility has no excuse, for there is ample land. Thanks read more

I come here about 2 times a week and always have a great experience. It can get a bit busy from 5-7pm but I've never had a problem finding a spot. They have mats and grass. They have individual and also class lessons. They have a decent putting and chipping practice area but it's not very well lit after the sun sets behind the mountains. They have a pro-shop on site with everything you need to play. Also, if you're in the area visiting and don't have clubs, they have a rack of clubs that people donate. You're able to grab them and practice hitting if you want. A little tip ... the last balls are sold at 8pm but the range is well-lit and stays open til 9:30. There have been times that I still have many balls left and the guy lets me stay til 10 when I'm done. Great staff! :) read more

I appreciate that this place exists in the desert. It's centrally located which is nice, but it is disappointing that accessibility is lacking. For a person with a full time job, the hours are not accommodating. Although it is open later in the evening during the week, it is often understaffed and hard to get balls from the machine (due to not having any or the card reader being down. On the weekends, when most people would enjoy going it is not even open. The quality of this range is average. Typical of what you would find at a public facility, but has room for improvement. It's unfortunate that it is run this way as it has the potential to be a great place for young people and families to come enjoy an outdoor activity in the desert. read more

This was probably one of the worst driving ranges I've been to. The process of paying for the golf balls is a little weird and the machine was having an issue taking our groups credit cards. It was a little on the pricey side I think we got a large bucket for $15. Also, their "putting greens" didn't even have holes in them. I'm surprised that this driving range is so bad considering it's in Palm Desert. read more

Not sure what's going on with this place We have been going here for years when visiting The last few times we have come out they closed at 8 we were hitting in the dark when finally college security came out and asked that we leave .... we lost a few buckets worth due to this But this range is good enough if you just need to hit balls I can see why the ratings are not that great anymore read more

I love, love, LOVE this place!! I've been hitting balls here since I was a wee little one back in elementary school/jr. high. Used to go with my grandpa and now I go with my boyfriend... It's a great place to get your golf on without having to struggle with costly reservations at one of the Coachella Valley's umpteen million golf courses... You really only need a few clubs...one will suffice but I always bring a 7, 9 and maybe a wood. Ya never know what you'll feel like hitting. There's about 100 practice stations and10,000 square feet of putting green to knock balls out onto and you can rent balls by the basket...small and large. They also have occasional clinics and have a small pro shop which will every so often offer discounted items... read more

The potential to make this range outstanding is ignored by the owner. The golf balls consist of multiple brands, twenty percent of them are worn out. The range does not have any distance markers and the hitting area is scruffy grass with several bald spots. I suggest that the range should be smoothed out and manicured with green grass. How about enclosing the targets with some fake greens and surround them with Bermuda grass? The "chipping green" is nothing more than a mowed area with pins. There is a definite lack of consistent bounces when I chip. In other words, it ain't a real green. The hitting area needs to be adjusted more often due to grass being worn out from previous use. This range could be a jewel of the desert. Instead, it is nothing more than a convenient place to practice that most likely holds little interest for golfers that prefer quality. read more

I don't know why anyone would give more than 2 stars - The whole purpose of a driving range is to hit balls of of something other than MUD. I am a COD alumni and thought I would go by the range and check it out. Thick bladed grass / weeds on over watered turf = MUD. The only reason I would go back is to practice hitting off of hardpan mud. Golf balls were decent for the average range. Price was average $10 for around 80-100 balls. This is a great practice facility, and they have it all: 150 practice stations, both grass and mats, covered and it the sun. They have a very large practice green, and practice bunkers as well. They even have a large selection of practice clubs and will provide lessons to those so inclined. read more

Hmmm, not sure why Rob C. thinks it sucks here. It is as good of a driving range as we have been to that isn't connected to an actual course. They have great grass and they maintain it really well. I will also mention that they have really good pros there. read more

Compared to driving ranges at other private courses in palm desert, this works well because even when it's really hot, it's shaded, has cooling misters, costs only $10/100 balls. Wasn't crowded in the middle of a weekday. read more

Very disappointed tonight. My boyfriend and I rarely get nights off together and tonight we did. We decided to make our way across the street to relax shooting balls at the driving range. Mind you before we got there we checked online the closing times and they stated 8:30 token machine closes, 9pm the ball basket closes and 10pm the driving range closes. We got there at 8:20 and there were plenty of people there. My boyfriend goes straight to the token machine and it's closed down he asked the worker there if he could get some balls and he told him no the they already closed them down. So asked if there was any other way he could get a basket of balls and he told him no. I am extremely upset. Working in customer service I know that the times you advertised should be accurate if you want to close early then as a business you should be consistent instead of deciding hey tonight I'm going to close down early. read more

Took our 8 year old nephew here and really liked the set up. They have shade if you want to hit off mats, but that day we were hitting off grass. Nice attendant and a big putting area, which is nice. Vending machine for drinks was a good addition. read more

Was in town for a week! Found this place to practice , nice and quiet on a weekday, facilities were more than adequate. Grass was in good shape for summer. A big putting green, & sand trap. I liked the fact that they had a bunch of clubs to borrow for free. Thinking about bringing the kids here to practice with the loaner clubs just for fun. All in all I would recommend read more

Only driving range I have ever seen that closes on Friday at 2:30PM Saturday at 2:30 PM Closed on Sundays. 3/4 of the range is closed at all times leaving a limited amount of area to hit from therefore no grass to hit from while beautiful grass sits untouched. On my recent visit to the Palm Spings area, I had a couple of hours to kill so I decided to take my new driver that I had gotten for Christmas and hit a few balls. I was very happy to find that the College Golf Center was doing well and was being highly utilized. I have been going to the range here for around twenty years now and its still one of my favorite ranges. Its unpretentious and its easy to access. Someone actually wrote the grass is great? This place routinely has dirt. Bring your magnifying glass if you wish to find a blade of grass. Frankly I don't care, I don't mind practicing off mats. (I'm a 2 handicap and have played for 26 years, not bragging just FYI) The problem is the mats are so old they're practically hard rubber. They're also at the far end of the range and half are full of ants. For some unknown reason during the "season" they take the mats at the prime center location of the range away! There's this giant empty concrete pad with nothing on it sitting there for absolutely no reason. But don't worry, as soon as the thermometer climbs back over 100 they'll put the mats back. Off hours the place is open but nobody is there, you're on your own. One time I put a token in for 50 balls and 10 drop out. Sorry. A large is 10 bucks so you're not saving any money here. So why the two stars? If you want to practice your short game you're in luck. They have a pretty good putting green and if you head over to the east end of the range there's a tucked away chipping green that you can use free and most of the time it's empty. There's a ton of grass around it with all kinds of lengths and lies so that's what I do, just go there and chip and putt. The shame is it would take so little effort and money to make this a really top notch facility. The land and infrastructure are already there. They're busy but most are hackers. Someone is making a lot of money off this place because it's certainly not being spent on the facility. read more
