There are a lot of golf courses in Palm Springs. I played this one, but honestly, it really wasn't worth the time or expense. It's not a bad layout and the practice green and range are OK. But the course is just average with some very odd holes that I am still not sure how to play. The real bummer is the greens. They have obviously been treated with some chemical for fungus and don't look or play well. The day we played none of the carts had GPS. No one in the pro shop mentioned this or offered any discount. There are a lot better options so my advice is to skip this one. read more

We enjoyed this course very much. It was beautifully maintained. More green and less desert. We started with warmups on the driving range, chipping area, and putting green. The range has beautiful views and grass hitting surface. The forward tees were on the longer side, around 5500 yards if I recall correctly. Lots of sand and a bit of water. Greens rolled nicely. Staff was welcoming and helpful. We were paired with a couple from Canada and had a great time. After the round, we sat in their outdoor (but covered) patio and watched big screen TVs showing the football playoffs. Couches and tables provided perfect seating areas to get views of sports and of the course. read more

I have it a 3 overall. Staff and course great but the pace of play was a one !!!!! So the course is great although at the end of the day the greens are a little slow ............... However ............. The carts have no GPS and haven't had them for 6 months which is a pain especially with so many people who haven't played the course before, hence makes the pace slower ......... Then........... The space of play ............ It's 106 degrees in the shade and a fourball is taking over 5 hrs to complete a round ! That's ridiculous for a Monday afternoon ! The group in front of us gave up after 14 holes and went home and we gave up after 15 holes that had taken us, as a two ball 4 1/4 hrs to get to that point ........... this is unacceptable . If you are organizing a group outing, which it looked like, be aware of other groups on the course. You're not that good, we had to watch you, to take that long !!! At one point there was four groups waiting on the 12th tee.......... Do better Norman course with your Marshals keeping a handle on the pace of play ........ I MIGHT be back but will check whats happening on the course earlier in the day read more

Once again I found myself in Palm Springs volunteering for the ANA Inspiration event so I decided to arrive a couple of days early and take advantage of some of the great courses here. Since it was early April, the temps did not get as high but I still prefer to go out early just to speed through the round. I arrived about 20 minutes before my tee time and was greeted at the bag drop. I walked in and they asked me to take the cart to the clubhouse and check in there. I paid for the tee time and headed out to the 1st tee. I guess I believe in not wasting all my good swings at the driving range though I believe my fee included some range balls. After clearing the starter, I realized I was alone and proceeded to make my first shot on the tee box. First thing I noticed was how immaculate the tee box looked. The whole course looked in excellent condition. I made a good swing and drove to my ball. The course has stakes to indicate where to enter and exit the fairways. The next three to four holes were a little difficult because you were driving or hitting into the sun. For a single player it was a little difficult to follow the ball while looking directly into the sun. Nevertheless, they did mess with my game. As the game progressed I realized a few things about the golf course. Firstly, there is no rough on the course only sandy waste areas. In those areas, there were plenty of plant, bushes and small trees that would make it impossible to find your ball. Two, the fairways and greens were pretty hard and mostly made up a clay-type of soil which makes sense for sandy soil. I had to change my swing a little to take smaller divots and adjust my approach shots. Thirdly, it took me 9 holes to find my aim points as it the moved seemed to move in different directions. Fourthly, even though I played 6500 yards there were some super long holes like 597 yards par 5, and I think three 450+ yards par 4s. In summary, I had a great time playing the course and would love to play it again. I was told that this is how Arizona desert courses look like and play. I recommend it to anyone even at $159 for a round. read more

I've played several of the PGA courses but this was my first time on the Norman course. It was Christmas eve and I booked my tee time a few weeks ago on the PGA website. Our tee time was around 10:00 am and as soon as I pulled up in my suv we were greeted by the baggage handler who valet our golf bags. The female inside the pro shop was friendly and very cordial and even thanked me for coming out and playing at PGA. We ended up being paired up withn a Japanese male teacher from Japan who was vacationing in So Cal and one of his middle school male students who didn't play but was visiting the United States for the first time. We had a great day chatting and the course was in immaculate condition. The greens were small and narrow and it was definitely target golf but fair and beautiful. I would rank this in my top five of courses I've played for the condition and beautiful layout of the course. The rates are pricey but if you're looking for a resort with six public courses and maintained perfectly - PGA West in La Quinta is the ideal place to stay and play. I would heart returning to PGA West again soon. read more

Came back out again to play this course because I had so much fun the first time last year. It was still great (greens could of been taken care of alittle more) however over all it was great! A definite must play if you're in the Palm Springs area. A very tough and challenging course! Makes it even sweeter though when you do drop in a birdie! Will be back again! read more

I have had deep admiration For Greg Norman and I love his leadership on the LIV tour. The PGA west course barring his name is a utter disaster. The track is unkept and the weeds are taking over. The greens are still in good shape however the track is not worth of the Norman name. T boxes have not been too dressed in a decade. The price per round for what your getting can be has at any local muni/ Greg get your name off this track!!! read more

4 stars for course design and 2 stars for service equals 3 star total. Very challenging golf course with many water features and tons of bunkers. Long desert areas flank many of the fairways. Played with two members (course open to non members as well) who were nice and gave helpful tips. Rude starter yelling at us that we were up. After I yelled back at him and we rushed over we stood there for at least 8 minutes waiting for group ahead of us. How about politely giving people an 8-10 min call like any other decent golf course? No beverage cart on an 85 degree day. If there was a phone or any other way to order food at the turn I certainly didn't see it. No time to stop at the turn due to pace of play. This was the only La Quinta Resort and PGA West course open due to over seeding at other courses. The course is at the end of its cycle and will be over seeded soon. Greens were hard and coarse. Generally the fairways were ok given the time of year. Paid $89. Probably fair given course conditions. In the future, I will play elsewhere in the area. read more

PGA west is by far one of my favorite places to go out and play. Just a medium drive from here in Orange County to La Quinta is no burden when you know what's coming. The Norman course is especially my favorite. The desert look and pristine conditions always make it a treat. Obviously this time of year it's impossible for them to be prefect with weather in the 120 range! Nevertheless the Norman course usually keeps up their course as best they can in the summer. If you are in la Quinta and looking for a place to play highly recommended! Staff is friendly and practice facilities are great! read more

Even the older gentleman at the first tee starter was very kind and explained about the golf course layout, rules and areas we should be cautious with. This is the 3rd course out of 6 that My Son and I will be playing in the area and we rank this as the 3rd out of 3. Let me preface this by saying we have played at several Private country clubs. Here we felt unwelcome by the Golf shop and the group of golfers behind us that I think played there every day. My Son and I played as a twosome keeping up with the group of ladies in front on every hole, yet it's didn't seem good enough for these jackles behind us as they came charging up on to the T boxes several times as we were about to T off as the group in front cleared. Perhaps it was out of frustration because we played from the tips, or maybe it was the searing 110 plus heat? If my Son was hear It would have been more of a issue especially when one of them on 18 yelled to one another "I don't know what that guys hasn't hit his shot yet" perhaps because I am 140 out and the group in front is still on the green, or maybe it was because they were playing the most forward T's possible. The course also ranks 3 out of 3 courses for us be used if the shape it was in as well. Out of the 3 courses that all have been aerated, punched and seeded. This by far was in the least optimal shape. The "cart barn " , on course staff and drink cart person were excellent and very welcoming. Unfortunately I will not be recommending this course nor will we be coming back anytime soon and to me that's very disappointing, because We Love the area and golf, but too many elements here disappoint and I haven't even mentioned until now for me and my Jr. Golfing Son it was $150 plus with a golf towel for my son from the pro shop. read more

We felt like we're were the only ones on the course. Each hole has amazing views & wonderful natural habitat. Demands accuracy off the tee & Norman must love bunkers- as there are tons of pot belly very deep fairway bunkers. A must play for the area. read more

I came to play this course on a blistering hot day a week ago and I came away very impressed. The entry is a little weird as you go in through a gated neighborhood, but the facilities are top notch. The clubhouse is cool and airy with a collection of Greg Norman pictures and memorabilia, and after checking in, you gain unlimited use of the practice facility - a well kept grass range, a putting green, chipping, and a practice bunker. Everything was in good shape and it was a great way to warm up. The service was polite, prompt and helpful (the starter gave me some useful tips - "hit it straight and stay out of the sand"), and everything was well signed and organized. They also take single reservations which is a huge plus in my book (since I could just get away quickly from a family function). The course itself is terrific. There is a great blend of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, no two holes seem a like, and there are plenty of interesting decisions and risk/reward choices to make. There are short and long holes at each par level, and the course is challenging without being unfair. The greens weren't too bad to read (although some were pretty small, either 8 or 9 seemed about 15 feet deep which was a nice challenge) and I felt it was a good golf test. There was some water and a ton of sand (especially on the back 9, which contains a hole called "Insandity" - my ball didn't go into a bunker there but I fell in after one shot out of the rough. oops) and the conditions were solid. The greens were on the slow side when I played and a little patchy (they were not bad though), but the bunkers and fairways were immaculate. Pace of Play was terrific - probably because it was 106 and there was no one out there. For some comparisons, I found this course far superior to Desert Willow Firecliff (which I played the day before) and I also preferred it to the Stadium Course at PGA West (which is insanely difficult and crazy and absolutely worth trying once, but not as fun for me to play because it was so frustrating). I have only two negatives: 1. They charged me 10 dollars more at the pro shop than my booking price. I was in a hurry and the deal was still good (I booked for 49, they charged 59 on a weekend morning) so I didn't argue it but it is still tacky. 2. This is the site of my greatest golf collapse ever. I was +2 after 13 holes and on track to break 80 for the first time ever, when I went bogey bogey bogey double double to finish with an 81. This is probably more on me than the course but I am still salty about it. If you are in the palm springs area, this is a terrific place to play! I will be back for sure. read more

Very disappointing for a first timer to the Palm Springs area. There are way better courses than this one, try any of those before wasting your money here read more

They upgraded the golf carts to have GPS now, so there's a lot less guessing how far you have. This time ordered lunch and got the fanciest hotdog ever from a golf course. It came with onion and tomatoes on the dog, and came with a side of fries. Felt really weird to get table service and get served a hot dog. read more

Every time I come back to this golf course, it just keeps impressing. Last Saturday, I roll out to meet up with 3 friends to play the "Norman". It was hot as hell (I later find out it hit 114 that day), but well worth it. We play 27 holes of pure magic. The fairways, greens, and layout are just simply a lot of fun. So many holes give you different looks and views that every time you pull up to the next tee box, you feel like you're up for some new fun. The place was empty (well, it is summer in the heat), so we cruised around in record time. Summer time is a great way to go to play this course at a great discount. Awesome course. Played here the weekend after thanksgiving. They had just opened a week prior after overseeding. The course was in excellent shape. Probably the best public course I've played. I'm not a golf pro....usually shoot in low 90's. 115 ish sand traps. So if you like the beach, this is the place to play. read more

Finished the Norman course about 2pm. Gotta say I was a bit apprehensive when even on their website they mention how little green grass there is. Lots of opportunity for lost balls in brush and such that may have been otherwise playable at other courses. However, that was not the case. In fact, they have made excellent use of the green areas and there is plenty of green apace where needed. That is not to say that I didnt perfect the art of hitting off of the hard packed desert dirt, but hey, put it straight and you don't have that problem. Greens were seeded and a little rough, but that is any course at different times during the year. Challenging yet fair is a very good description of this course. Not as busy as Nickalus or Stadium and staff was well accommodating. I probably put this as my #3 fav behind We-Ko-Pa Saguro and Troon North Monument. will definitely be back. read more

We heard it was a great track. However, we were charged $12 more than the price we were told when we made our reservation. Then, the head pro proceeded to tell us we were getting "the best deal in the desert". He failed to tell us they just punched and sanded the greens. Didn't see the cart girl until the 15th hole. Finally, the GPS didn't work on the cart. In summary, there are other great courses in the desert to play. Never coming back to this one. read more

Great course. The fairways even in the summer were outstanding. The greens are a little rough outside of the season months, but still playable. That's why I left one star off. In addition, if you can get a deal then its worth playing. I probably wouldn't pay full bang at anytime. There are similar courses in the Valley that are less expensive and in just as good condition. Played very recently and paid full "in season" price. At no time was I informed the course was cart path only when I made the reservation. NOT GOOD. Letting customers know key information so they can decide if they want to deal with slow play and taking 5 clubs to their ball every shot before they get to the first tee is something that should happen. Letting customers know the course condition is just good golf management and ensures repeat customers. Not doing that is unnecessarily causing friction no one needs. The three of us arrived and were sent to the first tee only then were we informed that we needed to pair up into two carts with a single that was paired with us. This is not a big deal normally but our third player was a smoker and the single was a non-smoker so they both preferred to ride alone for obvious reasons. The Starter rudely refused that option stating the course just over-seeded so two carts per group is all he would allow.....OK...we thought BUT,.then he tell us that we can't drive on the over-seeded fairways anyway, The course is "cart path only". Ding ding....so why not let us have the third cart so we don't have to awkwardly pair people who don't want to be paired?? Come on, none of us can drive on the over-seeded fairways anyway, does this make sense to you??? "NO, he says, "but if you don't want to pair up you can get your money back," This was this idiot's solution. No common sense. My wife ended up riding with the single and I ended up pairing up with our third, the smoker. We all were shaking our heads at the whole exchange, it didn't need to go down that way and would never have at a place that valued its customers business. At that point we were done trying to argue and just wanted to play golf so we did as told. Frankly it tainted the whole experience and we all agreed never again. Just arbitrary, poor customer service, by an employee who has no head for how to treat customers. Inexcusable for a high end golf course dealing with customers who have a lot of choices. All we learned was that there are too many nice courses to play in La Quinta for us to ever to want to go back the Norman Course at PGA West. read more

just played there, it was in nice shape even for the summer months. it played very long as apposed to the other time i have been on it. the greens were in good shape too. the is plenty of room out there and its not all that "targety" great views of the Santa Rosa mountains. the fairways were soft so you didnt get much roll. when it first opened they had ground flowers on the sides of the fairways, that was BRUTAL, now that its gone its a much friendlier place to play please fix you diviots and ball marks, thanks gh read more

Played in summer of 2011 in 110 degree heat. It's not that bad. the course is beautiful but dont miss the fairway as that beautiful sand looking outlines is decomposed granite which means its like rock. You roll off the fairway or miss and your ball will go on for days (lost) Won't play again even though it is a beautiful facility read more

First time I've played the Norman course. Play out at the desert a lot during the summer for the great rates. Got lucky today, temp in the 80's unbelievable for this time of year. Played in three hours exactly. Staff very friendly. Nice range and practice areas. The course was in terrific condition for the summertime. Greens a bit slow, maybe 6-7 but held well. Fairways were great. A fun course plays longer than the yardage as not much roll on tee shots due to the Bermuda. Pretty wide open fairways. There are lots of bunkers, but most of them are for show rather than in play. Will definitely play here again next summer. read more

The only thing my dad wanted to do for his 70th birthday was for the whole family to play golf together. We have come to La Quinta resort every.single.year for the past 30 years. Literally. My dad has played every course around the resort multiple times, has played in tournaments and knows them by the back of his hand. He chose this course for the family because it was one of his favorites. When we arrived the guy helped us unload and noticed that we had 2 golf bags but 5 people and said everyone needed their own set but to talk to the pro shop. My dad explained that 3 are complete beginners, will probably hit one ball a hole (if that is even accomplished) and that my mom is just riding along to be with the family. He once again repeated the rule. My dad went straight to the pro shop and they already knew he was coming in because the guy outside radioed in to them. My dad explained the above and from the get go the staff was extremely rude. They weren't willing to budge on the "rule" even though we were all just present to accompany my dad and attempt to hit a ball. A lady employee then came into the picture and although she charged a rider fee for my mom, she charged a twilight fee for the 3 beginners. I should mention that my mom can't hit a ball to save her life, wasn't wearing athletic clothes and was literally just our photographer and came along to watch. We have never, ever, ever at any La Quinta course been charged a rider fee. While we appreciated the twilight fee, the rider fee which was only $5 less than the fee to actually play golf is ridiculous. They also said they would waive the rule requirement this once after literally arguing back and forth for 20 minutes. They didn't have an explanation for said rule and no one was able to explain the reasoning behind it probably because it was just to make an extra buck. So after we paid we headed out to the driving range and tried to still enjoy the day and forget about the situation. Then just as we were going to the first hole an employee flagged my dad down to once again reiterate the "rule". My dad explained the situation for the 3rd time and said that he has never heard of this own bag per person deal after how long we've been doing this and that we already had this discussion 2 other times. The employee said "Well if you would've let me finish, I was going to say that we'll make an exception this time" which is exactly what we just went through in the pro shop. My dad let him know that we're not coming back to the course and he didn't seem to care. It absolutely felt that every employee knew about us there. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the starter was the nicest man. He took pictures of us before we started, was super conversational and drove around the course multiple times to check in with us. We will sadly not be returning to this course. I'm not sure what happened from years past but the staff was so rude and just made the experience not pleasant at all especially when we came on the off season on purpose. read more

Beautiful course but someone accidentally ruined their greens with a chemical. They tell you they roll true and the greens are "spotty". Not so. It nothing more than rolled dirt (they say they do it each day). It is a green dye. It is definitely not fun. Nice staff but you might want to wait a few months for the greens to recover. read more

Loved playing this course. It is very forgiving for errant shots. Not a single lost ball. Special shout out to Jim. He came by to check on us during the back nine and served us ice cold water to help us keep hydrated. They also have water stations at every few tee boxes but the ice water was a special treat along with ice cold wash clothes to help keep us cool. We are those crazy type of golfers who love playing nice courses even if it is 110°F. read more
