I've been to the Colony in Fairfield and the OG spot in Stamford multiple times & maybe it's nostalgia from college or the vibe, but the post road location does it best! There's a dining side and a great bar atmosphere on the opposite side. I swear the blue moon draft tastes best from colony, always cold and crisp. Came here for lunch with some family & friends on a Sunday, got there at a good time to get a good spot to watch some games. We were nicely greeted and they were able to accommodate our group with a child with a good sized table by the window. The manager was also nice enough to turn the tv channel to a particular game for us to watch as well. Nice looking restaurant, clean, nicer sports bar kind of place. Menu is pretty basic with pizza being the main and only item. It's build your own pizza style, a list of toppings you can choose from. Base price for the pizza and each topping you add is extra costs added to the price. Whatever, just look at the menu and you will figure it out. We got 3 pizzas among us and that was plenty for a group of 6. We just got a bunch of mixed toppings that we thought would pair well, we even got anchovies! Not a big fan of anchovies, but it was ok. Pizza itself was pretty good, thin crust, crispy and perfect for folding it in half to shove in your mouth. Service was fine, friendly and quick to get anything additional we needed. Stopped in at Colony Grill on my way back to NYC from a road trip to Maine. This is my second time at this location and the pizza is always very tasty. I ordered a pizza for takeout and I arrived on time for pickup. The parking lot was fairly busy and the employees had a system for delivering pizzas to the customers. My husband and I ordered a customized half-and-half pizza, and our order was mixed up with the toppings. We took the pizza home, which was less than five minutes from the restaurant, and the pizza was rubbery and cold. The hot oil pizza was not flavorful and tasted like sitting grease. I try not to be wasteful, but after having one slice I went to my pantry and whipped up my own dinner. I will not get takeout here in the future. The only reason I did not give this review a one star is because of my prior experience of dining at the restaurant. This review would be 4 stars for their regular pizza but the gluten free one took it down a notch. You always know what to expect with Colony for the most part. It's a thin personal pizza that normally needs toppings or hot oil at the very least. My fiancée has celiac so we were pumped to see they had gluten free crust! He got it with hot oil and anchovies. Our pizzas were the gold standard you have to come to expect and his was...just too thick and gluey. We have been eating Brick & Wood gluten free pizza which is absolutely out of this world and people that don't eat gluten free order that crust so if you're in Fairfield and gluten free I would skip this and try B&W, you'll be amazed. If you aren't gluten free than colony is great and I highly recommend hot oil with onions and sausage. Yum!!!! read more

This was an all time favorite restaurant for me when I went to College at Fairfield University. The place is always busy! This is by far my favorite pizza around. It's super super thin with lots of taste. I like the hot oil pizza and the bacon pizza. You can also do half and half. The menu is rather small but the pizza is so good you wouldn't need anything else. They also have a salad pizza that's pretty good and really different. On a weekend night you should expect to wait to get a seat for a little while. They have a bar where you can order a drink while you wait. The atmosphere is great and the staff is friendly. There is street parking on post road and they also have a lot in the back. read more

Walked in and sat at the bar for beer and pizza before heading to an event, and the bartender was great! Decorated for the holiday season, and playing Christmas music definitely adds to the ambiance. The staff here is always extremely friendly and welcoming as well! For a Monday night, it wasn't too busy but that doesn't hold anything back. This place serves up the best salad pizza I've had since Rosa's on Fresh Pond Road in Glendale, NY. Stopped in for the 1st time to try one of their flatbread pizzas & wasn't disappointed. It came with fresh toppings of carrots, cucumbers, and lettuce with a light vinaigrette. Amanda was our server & she recommended a great Blue Point Tasted Lager, which went down so smooth I had to order a second. She is to be commended. Colony has been considered as Stamford's staple pizza for many years. I never really understood the hype since (at the time) I couldn't eat spicy and therefore couldn't try it. Fast forward a few years later, I finally developed an incredibly weak but semi functional spice tolerance and went to see what all the fuss was about. They're known for their hot oil pizza and each pizza is personal sized. The base starts around $9.50 and additional toppings are $1.50. I opted for hot oil with sausage and their salad pizza. 1. The hot oil was actually quite good! It's thin crust and straightforwardly simple. Not too cheesy and I didn't shed tears of pain from the heat, so that was a good sign. The more I ate it, the more I enjoyed it. It's not meant to be complex or have some crazy depth to it. Wash it down with cider or beer and I can totally see why it's a comfort food for people. 2. The salad pizza was a nice addition to balance out the hot oil, but have to say, Remos salad pizza reigns supreme and nothing will over come close to it. Overall solid pizza joint! Today my and two of my friends decided to go to Fairfield and get some colony pizza, we went and it was a typical busy night so we weren't expecting much. Our server we saw her about two times, when she got our drinks and then the last time when she gave out our food. We waited about 30 mins for our check but she was nowhere to be found, which again very understandable. we ended up waiting another 10 mins and still nowhere to be found, so we decided to go up to them to pay. Ofc I didn't tip. One of the servers followed us outside and screams out "Just so you know, servers depend on tips" which I thought it was very rude because he wasn't even our server. But to follow a customer outside and scream out just because I didn't feel a tip was entitled? Me and my friends were shocked because we work in the food industry and never once have chased a customer outside because they didn't feel the need to tip. read more

I wanted to like this place but unfortunately It was just a huge miss. We went on a Friday and it was very busy so it took some time to be seated. It actually wasn't too bad about a 25 minute wait. Once seated our drink order was taken but nothing was explained. Finally we figured out the menu was essentially an advertisement left at the center of the table. Not a big deal we figured it out and finally put in our order, not a complicated order just 2 pizzas, one sausage and one cheese. It then proceeded to take close to an hour to get our pizzas. So even though it took so long we still was giving them the benefit of the doubt because I heard this place was good but the pizza was not good at all. Very thin crust which was fine but considering we waited so long I was really hoping it would be very good and it sort of fell flat. My sausage pizza literally had one piece of sausage per slice. It almost felt like they were rationing the sausage. Who does that? The pizza place we normally visit serves us a small pizza that has more sausage on three slices than this whole pizza had. We arrived 20' later and were told it would be at least another 10-15 minutes because they were "slammed". If this is Fairfield County's best pizza, then the saying "money can't buy happiness" is alive and well along the Gold Coast. Because if anybody could afford the best of anything it's Fairfield County residents. And if this is their crème de la crème, then apparently money doesn't buy good pizza in this part of the state. Pepes doesn't count exactly because that's a New Haven export. Now I'd go so far as to say Colony Grill doesn't make pizza. What this Irish establishment produces contains the three key ingredients for pizza, but its appearance is really unusual and unlike anything I've seen before. Like one reviewer said, it resembles Celeste frozen pizza. That's very true (and it's not a compliment). There's very little sauce and the cheese has odd little holes all over its entire surface. But that's not to say the pizza is inedible. It's not. I was able to keep down several slices. As bad as it is - and it is pretty bad - I wouldn't compare it to traditional Italian pizza. I bet if they wanted to, Colony Grill could get away with calling it "Irish" pizza. Sort of like Greek pizza and Chicago pizza. Each pizza is $8 and you can embellish your pie with any number of toppings for $1.50 each including meatball, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, onions, black olives, onions, cherry peppers, stingers, hot oil, anchovies, peppers and/or bacon. I'm a fan of the hot oil and stingers and my fellow diners loved the bacon and pepperoni. You can't go wrong with the one pizza to one person ordering ratio. You'd think there would be leftovers but the pull of the hot oil will render your powers of restraint useless. I am in a delicate position here. If I pan Colony Pizza, chances are good I'll have entire towns searching for me wielding tar and feather. If I sing its praises, I'll be insulting the foodie intelligence of our readers and well, myself. Luckily I find myself right smack in the middle. Yes, the pizza is indulgently greasy, the crust is more about thin perfection than flavor, but somehow Colony manages to consistently serve one of the most satisfying and comforting pizzas around. I'm so glad that Colony Grill is in Fairfield. Excellent pizza- crunchy thin crust, with great flavours. The best part is... it's just pizza. There's no confusing menu, nothing to really think about... you go here for pizza and nothing but pizza. That being said... I highly recommend trying the Hot Oil pizza at least once, even though I tend to keep things simple and get olives and mushroom (which is also great). There is a bit of a drawback, though. Don't go there when it's busy, which is almost any normal time you'd actually want to eat pizza. I made the mistake of going at 6pm on a Friday, and the wait was amazingly long, and the service even slower. In fact, it took a good 45 minutes just to get our food! If you go later at night (say, 9pm) on a weekday, it's empty and the pizza comes out within 10 minutes. Drastic difference. Great pizza outside of NYC! The restaurant is super cool with this pub like feel yet very family friendly. We arrived there and a few things got my attention: 1. The brought my 6 year old a coloring place mat and crayons, score! 2. I noticed pictures of military men, police, and fire fighters on 2 walls. 3. Police patches on the bar. We had 3 pizzas which were all yummy! They are thin crust and the toppings are your choices. We had cheese with mushroom, half pepperoni half cheese, and then my favorite pepperoni, mushrooms and hot oil! They have a standard beer selection with a couple of craft beer choices. Location: easy to find and plenty of parking and other restaurants and shopping stores around Inside: nice and up to date Menu: Pizza and Drinks (nothing else no wings, mozzarella sticks; nothing) Service: Out of 10 the host gets an 8.5 he was nice and seated the customers as quickly as possible. Out of 10 the Waitress gets a 4 she paid us no mind. The Pizza: nothing special, the famous meatballs had no flavor, if it wasn't for the hot oil topping they would have no flavor at all.
