The pizza at Comella's is so so so good and my girlfriend and I had a great experience at this location. We ordered two personal pizzas (one buffalo chicken & one extra cheese and pepperoni) and a kids sized chicken tenders and fries to share. The food came out quick and everything was delicious. The service was great as well! The restaurant was a bit too hot to eat in on a summer day but we still had an enjoyable time. I'm giving them a 3 because overall the food is good. But I did have a bad experience with them regarding uber eats because my food was not in tamper-evident packaging! My uber driver ate all my French fries, left me like 10 and who knows what else he touched from my order! Delicious and very fast serviced Italian American food. They do a good job with their pasta dishes with excellent red sauce and just recently, I tried the olive oil butter garlic sauce with sweet peppers, chicken and broccoli. This is the neighborhood favorite take out and there hasn't been a time when they were not busy. They have excellent wine and beer selections while you wait you can dine inside or have take out. I'm never going back here. My family of 5 went there for end of week pizza and were told 30 minutes. Sure thing. We bought chips and chocolate milk for the kids and prepared to wait for our 3 pizzas. They brought one out after about 10 minutes, and the other 2 didn't come for nearly a half hour AFTER that. No communication, we had to ask twice and when I asked the first time, she said "well I moved one up to being you that one." Great, so half my family is done eating and ready to leave, and the other half is starving and cranky. One of the pizzas that came late was wrong when they brought it. Not to mention the feeing of exclusivity in the place if you're not a white family from one of the private schools in W Rox. A clean, snappy little Italian comfort food joint with a huge menu (see reviews for the Newton location - there's also one in Wellesley) and as you'd expect, generous (though not insanely so) portions. They're known for their "mess" which they describe as an Italian goulash. It's basically sauce, pasta, cheese, and total goodness - you select one of their 20+ variations of meats and veggies. Their veal parmigiana seemed a bit over-breaded but other than that all the food has a great fresh flavor - very tomatoey and more emphasis on oregano than garlic (a plus in my book). I can't wait to go back to try some of their fresh ravioli - with fillings like asparagus, goat cheese, and sweet potato, in addition to standard cheese, meat, and seafood - it sounds so good! read more

Mess = Italian Goulash is about right. Imagine if a tray of lasagna and a tray of mixed pasta got into a knife fight and disemboweled each other onto your plate. Then various yummy meats swung by to hear what the racket was, slipped in the red sauce gore and joined the pile. That's mess. Looks horrible, tastes fantastic. This place is a great to-go option for parties and entertaining. The mess scales perfectly.. just tell 'em how many people you've got, how hungry they are, and they can recommends how many trays to get. The other menu options are more hit or mess, but nothing has been downright awful. Comella's compelled me to make my first review of a place on Yelp... My roommates and I frequent Comella's for our dose of homemade Italian food (don't expect gourmet, expect homemade). My roommates would get the messes (trust me when I say that calling the meal a 'mess' is a term of endearment for the dish) and I would go the meals (chicken parm, calamari parm, chicken broc and ziti). We always hoot-and-holler about how good the food is after we eat it, but two weeks ago everything changed at Comellas...for the BETTER. They had free samples of the new pizza they were implementing into their menu and my roommates and I literally ate the whole 'free sample' pie (we kind of abused the whole "free sample" mentality). Now afterwards we chalked the immense appeal of the pizza to us being ravenous as it was 8:30 PM, but the next day we ordered the pizza and were absolutely AMAZED. I am serious when I say that Comella's pizza is easily in my top 5 pizzas I have ever had (and I've had my fair share). The best part is that a large cheese pizza is $5!!!! The Upper Crust is down the road and the prices are about 60% higher there for an inferior pizza. We have had the cheese, buffalo chicken, sausage and garlic, and pepperoni pizza and have loved all of them. I would love to hear if anyone else out there agrees with me. Lasagna is an Italian Dish, and always made with Ground Meat, "plenty" of Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella & Parmesan Cheese. So please put in your menú Ricotta Lasagna so customer will know in advance that is your own recipe. Weeks waiting to eat a real Lasagna Dish and I was disappointed. This NEXT time went above and BEYOND my expectations of delicious Italian Food... The theater I do a lot of work at, The Newton Country Players, just finished their show, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," and my friends Chrissy and Nathan were hosting our cast party!!! When Chrissy said she was ordering food from Comella's, I knew it was good...BUT THIS GOOD?!?!?!?! WOW! They are super nice, too. Our show got out at 10pm, which was past closing time. The owner told Chrissy to text her when she was done with the show. I've been a customer of Comella's for over 8 years. I recently bought 3 pizzas....and was very disappointed. It's still a relatively fair price at $8.25 for a cheese pizza, however the pizza is really suffering in quality. Pizza dough was almost unrisen... a very flat pizza. Had enough cheese, but not enough sauce. Also, two of the pizzas were on the smaller side and failed to fill the pizza box. I joined Yelp just to rate this place. I've been looking for a place like this since I started going to school here 7 years ago. Usually in Boston, in terms of Italian fare, it's either pizza on the low end of the spectrum or a classy joint on the high end. Dropping $20-25 on two people for an actual meal doesn't happen. I can cook Italian food pretty well, but sometimes you just want some quality takeout. A lot of the pizza places in the area have food, but that doesn't mean its necessarily good. The food here, on the other hand, is top notch. I went here with my father, who is a sauce snob and he loved it. That never happens. I had the sweet potato ravioli, which was out of control. My father had the beef ravioli, which was also really good. Portions were good. I'll be able to get at least two meals from my serving. The dining room is a little weird, but I won't fault them for it because it works- its not sure if its a formal restaurant or a take-out place with a dining room. Whenever I have a craving for some gnocchi, I go to Comella's. I really like their spinach gnocchi. Gnocchi is not the easiest thing to do well. Their sauce is just okay - it has a consistency that I just can't put my finger on. Maybe it's a little greasy almost? It's not bad, just not my favorite. They have a pretty big menu, with a billion types of the "mess" which is Comella's specialty, which is a mix of all sorts of things. Anyway, one of the reasons I don't eat here too often is that it's not cheap. A single serving of spinach gnocchi is $10. Granted I get a meal and a half out of this, but I still don't like spending that much on lunch on a regular basis. Come on, people, we're in a recession here! I've also only had takeout from here, so I can't comment on how it is to actually eat here. Whenever I'm craving tasty Italian food though, I will definitely go to Comella's! Comella's has become my post COVID19 go to. They provide delicious Italian comfort food with fantastic service. The menu has a great range as well including salads, appetizers, pizza, entrees. My personal favorites are the antipasta salad (at least two meals), chicken Parmesan, and meatballs. I love, love their red sauce! Also, I find their pizza to be the most delicious for the price. The $5 cheese pizza is the best deal in town and it's really good. I don't consider pizza a meal, it's more of a snack food and this is rightly priced for snacking. It's the most consistent pizza - crust is light & thin, sauce is slightly sweet, and a great combination of cheese. If you want to make it a meal try a side of eggplant parm. I'm not a fan of the highly touted "mess" combinations but I have had the shrimp scampi is a large order and that was great. I have been coming here since they had $5 large cheese pizza. The price has gone up to $8.50 (I can't recall the exact price but it was 8 something) but I still find Comella's pizza to be one of the best bang for the buck. You get a perfectly thin yet soft crust with the perfect amount of tomato sauce topped with just the right amount of mozzarella on top. The pizza is always fresh, consistent, and tastes amazing.
