If you are a curry lover I would recommend trying it. I had the kale and spinach waldorf salad with crispy chicken and it was very delicious. The salad at first glance seems small but the bowl is deep and actually is a lot of food. We ordered two other appetizers which were also were very good. Surprisingly the appetizers portions are very big and could easily be served as an entree. There were a lot of tiny flies and gnats which took away from our experience a little. Hair don't care. Seriously, there was a hair in our Nashville Hot Chicken. When we told the staff, they immediately fixed the situation and gave us a generous 50% off our entire bill. We ordered the Hot Honey Chicken (which was a sandwich), the Vietnamese Coffee French Toast, and the Charred Brussel Sprouts. All were super good!! The hot honey chicken had the right amount of kick and crispiness- was not dry at all. Although the only thing is I wish the breast was a little thicker. Met a friend here for happy hour (appreciated the later HH end time of 6pm). We shared the chicken sliders, tots, quesabirria egg rolls and opted for the house white wine. This was just enough food for 2 people as the sliders had only 2 but you get 4 egg rolls (I think 2 large ones cut in half). The egg rolls were the star of the show as the beef was so tender and flavorful. I probably could have done without the sliders but they were tiny enough to get a nice bite of flavor without feeling over the top full. The staff was great - attentive but not too intrusive and very pleasant. The venue itself is small (bar takes up most of the inside) but lots of outdoor seating and a few 2 person booths inside. First time here, found this place on Yelp and we came hungry from the SD zoo.It was clean and has nice vibes. The weather today was great so the patio was perfect as the sun went down. Food was amazing. We ordered chicken sliders, tots, and ahi off the happy hour menu. The ahi was my favorite, tasted very fresh and the garnish was different and refreshing! My entree was the hot honey chicken. It was very filling, the chicken was juicy with a really nice crispy breading. The sauce was sweet with a tiny kick, I was grateful the sauce wasn't so heavily put on - usually makes my chicken Sandos soggy. I wanted to like this place more, and I was so excited because I chose this spot for my boyfriend's surprise birthday dinner, but I was a little underwhelmed with the food. I love the exposed brick, there is indoor/outdoor seating + a bar, a lot of fresh air because the floor to ceiling windows go up like a garage door, and beautiful greenery. It's a small restaurant, but more so intimate as opposed to crowded. To start, we ordered the gochujang charred broccoli and karaage chicken bites. I hate sending food back, but I sent the broccoli back. I expected the broccoli to actually be charred with the gochujang, but instead it was more so unseasoned, hard broccoli with gochujang drizzled at the last minute. I asked the waitress (bless her heart, she was sweet and had a smile on the whole time) to replace those with the charred brussels, which were a much better option (though I feel like the croutons were unnecessary). The karaage was yummy too, I really liked the sauce. For an entree, I went simple with the charred romaine caesar. I think everything with the word "charred" was actually charred except the broccoli. The crispy chicken on the menu sounded delicious, so I added some to my salad and it was much needed. Now I'm thinking about that salad because I love garlic and I love caesar dressing, so black garlic caesar dressing was the cherry on top for me. Steak frites is one of my boyfriend's favorite things to order, and I surprised him with a reservation to Common Stock specifically because of the steak frites. It fell a little flat though. The fries should be umami fries naturally, but at least they were crispy. The steak itself was pretty good but the black garlic chimichurri killed the dish for us. Came in for late dinner when visiting SD. Decor is cute and inviting. The chicken was crunchy and good flavor. My cider was a on the room temperature side vs it being ice cold but the Paloma and fries were very nice. My biggest issue is with the check. After returning to the hotel I look at the receipt and realize that they are over charging on the tip. The amount is not large around .50 cent. I just don't appreciate an establishment being so deceptive. If you do the math for the recommended tip, the amount is more. But if you include the tax into the total the tip recommended would still be wrong. How ever you cut it I just feel like the restaurant is not being honest. The chicken of the chicken and waffles was deftly seasoned, however the chicken was thin as could be, and therefore dry. The chicken was so thin, it was reminiscent of chicken skin. The waffle was very dense, but delicious when dipped in syrup. The tots of the meal were beautifully crispy. The shrimp and grits was served in two small separate containers, and contained 5 shrimp and 3 small pieces of sausage; the portion was okay but definitely smaller than we were expecting. The best item we ordered was the Vietnamese coffee French toast which I would highly recommend. I'd like to try them again, as judging by the reviews, I likely just caught them during an off day. Common Stock Restuarant bar looked like any ordinary open setting restaurant in Hillcrest. At least, from where I stood, across the street, at Chase bank. I was wrong about the ordinary. Common Stock was actually EXTRA ordinary. There were seven of us that helped celebrate a good friend's birthday last Saturday. It was my first time at Common Stock. I didn't know what to expect. Though, the moment I entered the front patio, I immediately liked the place. Not too big, not too small, not too loud, not too quiet, not super crowded, roomy enough, seats were comfy, perfect size long table, an outdoor view, great servers and a perfect group to hang out with. It was around 530pm when appetizers and drinks were ordered. There were a couple of us that ordered dinner plates. I tried the crispy chicken sandwich. It was tasty and delicious. The sandwich was extra ordinary. Pointing out that the chicken sandwich at Common Stock, has out-done other chicken sandwiches I've tried before. Unfortunately, the chicken sandwich did not come with any sides or anything extra, but it was good enough. We were all full and agreed that the appetizers were delicious: gochujang charred broccoli, spicey tempura shrimp, sticky ribs, Cesar salad, and chicken bites. The drinks were also good. Some had a couple servings of the same kind. This group was definitely thirsty ;) Taylor was our main server. He had waited on other tables while he continued to check in at ours. He made sure our requests were met and followed up on those requests. He would ask how we liked our appetizers, offered more drinks, etc. Taylor had a positive attitude, good natured and friendly. This place is located on the same street as a few gay bars! My group of friends and I ordered the brussel sprouts and the Nashville hot chicken to share (we were on a food tour). At first glance, it seemed different but overall the same. When I tasted it, it was such a spicy and intense experience, nothing like I've ever tasted before. They savory flare and flavor it once had was replaced with pure spicy, and I like spicy, but it was even much for me. I thought maybe I was slightly overreacting to it, so I asked my best friend what her thoughts were on her chicken and waffles were. She was also dying she said! We guzzled our drinks so fast to try to combat it. We told our server that we were kind of fighting for our lives and he only said "Sorry," and unfortunately didn't offer us a new plate, or any solution at all.
