    Popcorn chicken

Excellent bar and restaurant in the North Park area you won't want to miss! It has a classy and upscale vibe but come as you are. We happened upon this place for happy hour, which is a great deal. The old fashioned was really good and they have a decent wine list, both at great prices. We also ordered some popcorn chicken, Brussels, and the chicken sandwich. The Brussels were absolutely out of this world, as was the sandwich! The popcorn chicken was also really good...but the Brussels sprouts are worth coming for alone. The service was great and there is plenty of bar seating. If you're in the North Park area make sure to stop by, especially at happy hour!

Great restaurant for the whole family, that always hit the spot! Joe was very friendly and welcoming amazing server. Nice garden vibe outside and a bit moody inside. Would definitely visit again want to try the popcorn chicken!

I am honestly surprised I have not written a review for this place yet, I found this place in 2021. I bring visitors here all the time, and it has become my ultimate comfort food spot. I tend to keep it simple and order the same items every time. My go to is the crispy Brussels for $14 and the chicken sandwich for $16, and I usually rotate in the parmesan fries for $10. While they do offer other dishes that are worth trying, these favorites always keep me coming back. The service and ambiance are consistently great. It is located in Hillcrest, so the area is always lively, which adds to the overall experience. The energy, combined with the quality of the food, makes it a reliable choice whether I am dining with friends or hosting out of town guests. Parking can be a bit challenging, but that is typical for Hillcrest. I usually plan ahead and look for street parking nearby.

Really happy with our lunch today! On a Saturday around 3 we came to sit at the bar for a few drinks + snacks. I loved the shrimp and grits-- great flavor and perfectly cooked shrimp. I wouldn't mind if it had a little more spice to it, but nevertheless really good!! My partner got the chicken sando and rated it 8/10. It had a good crunch and good bread with pickled carrots and (I think) daikon, just a bit too sweet for our taste with hoisin sauce! Loved the fries and their ranch is fabulous. The bartender was helpful with making our choices and quick with the delicious drinks :) Also a cute & quaint outdoor dog-friendly patio!

Super chill atmosphere and we celebrated my stepson's wedding. Parking is available for a small fee right across the street, which is ideal. We ordered the brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and bao buns. The food was delicious! The bar can make so many drinks not on the menu, just ask. The customer service was profesional and attentive.

Fried chicken bites for happy hour, karaage style? Sign me up! I truly love a well-rounded happy hour menu. Come for the drinks, stay for the phenomenal bites, great service, and lovely ambiance.

Great spot to grab food and drinks in Hillcrest. It's pretty underrated, idk why more people don't talk about this spot! The food we got was really good and so were the drinks. Service was also great. Parking can be a pain depending on the time of day but all in all not bad. Would definitely come here again.

I came here with my boyfriend a couple months ago for a date since we were in the area. The staff here was super friendly and surprisingly, there was no wait! We ended up sitting inside. We got the brussel sprouts, chicken sandwich, the their chicken leg dish. I can't quite remember what the name of the chicken leg dish was. The food overall was decent, I did like my sandwich. The chicken leg was a bit dry and I do wish it had a side with it. The brussel sprouts were really good and I liked the homemade croutons with it. It's a nice spot for a date, though parking is mostly street or paid parking. The moody lighting really sets up the scene. I would imagine the parking is less busy than on a weekend night. I definitely want to come back here for happy hour.

Stopped in for a solo dinner on Saturday evening. Lindsey took care of me and delivered outstanding service. She was kind, genuine, and confident with her menu suggestions. She stayed attentive the entire time. I would ask for her again. The food was excellent. The tuna toastaditas had strong flavor and a solid portion. The rotisserie chicken had great seasoning and was cooked well. The slaw ran a bit spicy for my taste. The dessert stood out. The banana and toffee pudding had a rich flavor and the portion felt right. I would come back for the food alone. I did not try the drinks, but many guests ordered some good looking options. I also didn't wait because I sat at the bar. Would definitely recommend.

3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the drinks, so I gave em 4 stars. Got the brussels sprouts and artichoke hearts and they were doused in far too much sauce and insanely salty. I love the vegetables for what they are and want sauce and seasoning to enhance them, not be the star of the show. Got the hot honey chicken and pork belly bao buns which were pretty good, nice and fluffy. Drinks wise, I got the blueberry bramble as well as the berries & cream (both vodka drinks). they were fantastic, so refreshing. Old fashioned was also top notch! server was wonderful and kind. the ambiance is amazing and is a great spot for a date or cozy evening with friends.

One of my favorites in San Diego! A must visit every time we're in town, even if just for the fries - salty, garlicky, crispy delicious golden goodness! The restaurant is in a nice location, with plenty of street parking along the block. There are other restaurants and bars in the area. They have nice indoor/outdoor table and bar situation with a patio, great for nice weather. Everything we order off the menu is always a hit (rec the steak frites and gochujang broccoli). They also have a good happy hour, with apps and drinks. Service is quick and friendly. Can't recommend this place enough!

Good for large groups? Thinking of having a celebratory dinner here.

The location has a large U shaped bar in the center of the indoor space. A large group might work if it is warm and they have the "garage style" door open so your party could be on one side of the U indoor/outdoor

Is there a happy hour? What days and times?

Every day 3-6pm. $5 drafts, $2 off all wines by the glass, $2 off margarita and Paloma

    Can I bring dogs?

Definitely! We have patio tables right in front of the restaurant that are perfect for parties with pups.

My bartender was Jose and even though the bar was at capacity he was quick to help me out. The food came quicker than I expected. I couldn't believe how good the pork chop was. Better than most steakhouse chops I've had. Had an amazing texture and taste like it was right off the gri I love the fries as well skinner than average and a good crisp to them. Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. Welp! Onto the next!

My brother found this place several years ago on his visits to SD. It's now become a regular spot…read morewhenever we are in town. Most recently we were there for an event and as always, they were nothing short of exceptional! The drinks are always fantastic but what really elevates this place is the staff. They always have the best attitude, they are so accommodating, and you can tell they want you to enjoy your experience in every way. During our most recent visit, Lamar really went above and beyond to ensure our group was able to all be together for an event. I'm so very grateful for his assistance and wanted to say thank you again for everything! This place is an absolute must each time we visit, and I would highly recommend adding it to your list to try!

This place is hidden inside Craft & Commerce which is a quirky little bar itself. There was a wait…read morefor entry this past Sunday after 9pm. Staff was also not very attentive to guests' needs, rather just going through the motions. For instance, they noted "standing room only" and that they would eventually seat our party of two. They walked us to an exact spot on the floor to stand and view the menu in the dark (we used our phone flashlights, but it wasn't easy while carrying our belongings too), and they instructed us not to order at the bar in this colorful but dimly lit tiki lounge. We essentially ordered from staff who took our order in the middle of the floor, then we had to hold our drinks, some that came with additional shot glasses, in full hands, as we were never seated. We did find a barrel to set our drinks on later, but their process and expectations for guests was just really weird and impractical. The theme and decor of the setting was lovely, with moments of a lightning and thunder effect that made the experience more immersive. But we were not impressed by the sticky menus and sticky floor, nor the lack of service and minimal help from staff while there. We made the most of our time at False Idol regardless of their shortcomings. The bombay sling and enigma de muerte were pretty decent in quality and flavor, so it's safe to say the drinks aren't the problem here. And though we probably won't return, it was cool for a one-time experience.
