I loved all the baked goods at Community Bakery... too much! I would only recommend this business for picking up their sweet treats. The restaurant side takes FOREVER to cook the food. Make sure that you have a lot of time to wait around to get your food. I'm talking super SLOW. My other problem with dining there is that the outside tables expose you to the homeless problem they have. They have people hanging out begging for money and bothering customers. Truth is... I found myself at Community Bakery while sorta' scavenger hunting/ almost mildly cyber stalking this local artist's work-- in a non-creepy way! He graciously shared the location, and off I went! I was looking for a drain (yeah I know, I'm ridiculous and had time on my hands today!) he'd painted and found it directly in front of the Community Bakery! -- what are the odds?! I found my street art, snapped a pic, saw the bakery, knew I had it bookmarked, so I thought-- "I'm here, might as well!" And I'm so glad I did! The bakery is really open and spacious, with a huge selection. Sidebar: I was sorta' surprised that they don't sell the infamous Arkansan "Possum Pie" but hey, I'm not an Arkansan so... not my qualm! The staff is super friendly and helpful in explaining them items and making recommendations-- and there's much to choose from. I decided on the strawberry whipped cream cake and grabbed a French silk pie for the hubs as he's a super fan of "chocolatey chocolateness." Unfortunately, the hubs got to his pie AND my cake before I could even get decent photos (or any for that matter)! Now, true Yelpers know that's an ultimate no-no and almost unpardonable sin! But, that tells you all you need to know about the product! I digress. Both desserts looked awful by the time I saw them again (especially his French silk pie, but I'm sure you can imagine what it could be likened to). I enjoyed (what was left of) my cake and I'll be back for a proper do over with adequate photos to commemorate the experience! All in all, #pyhurds_art (on IG) brought me here, but the thrill of trying more delicious items in those amazing dessert cases will be the reason I come back! P.S. This was such a warm and wonderful place to stop in for a sandwich and delicious handcrafted coffee beverage. When we ordered the avocado melt, (which I anticipated would be bland but satiating) we were so pleasantly surprised, enjoyed every bite and loved the mustard. It's Monday 9 am and I wanted bfast out. It was not busy. While the bfast sandwich and latte were both very good, the service was terrible. No one behind the counter had a clear understanding of their role. People who came in after me and were standing behind me were ordering before me. My latte came out 10 min after sandwich because the lady who makes the latte was serving donuts to people who came in after me. Where do you order? Your guess is as good as mine. I stood at the front, middle, side, couldn't get anyone to take my order for ten minutes, and it wasn't busy mind you. I finally had to stand in front of the register to force an employee to actually make eye contact. After we place our order they promptly forget the order ever existed. So I have to play the nonsense employees are ignoring the counter game again. Not only do they get the order wrong but they managed to sell out of chocolate croissants in the 20 minutes it took to get the ice cold items out of the case. Cinnamon rolls were stale and cold. I have many nostalgic memories of my grandmother taking me here on summer trips to Little Rock. Over the years, Community Bakery has evolved from an outstanding bakery into a full eatery which includes the original bakery. Their baked goods are simply amazing. Truly everything tastes great. Especially after ordering a variety of cookies, you'll be hard pressed not to find a favorite in the batch. Once you find the favorite, you'll be instantly transformed into the Cookie Monster and you'll be wanting to devour about a dozen immediately. My absolute favorite cookies are the frosted sugar cookies. Their cakes are phenomenal along with many of their other assorted baked goods. In the baked goods department, you'll find something here that is good. As for the breakfast sandwiches, I had a simple croissant toasted with cheese. It was simply okay. I love to end the night with dessert so we stopped in for a piece of cake to go. The sweet treats here didn't look the prettiest but as long as they taste good, I'm not too concerned about that. The offer all sorts of cakes, bars, pies, drinks, etc. We ordered the caramel cake. Most caramel cakes I've had have been very dense however, this one was completely different. The came itself seemed very light and fluffy and very fresh. The icing was very smooth and creamy, almost a whipped consistency. My husband particularly enjoyed the fact that this cake wasn't terribly sweet. At the time of our visit, they had an irate customer who apparently didn't get her cake order correctly, to an ambulance outside hauling a passer by away to a homeless person circling the baked goods. Due to all these distractions, customer service failed us. My friend never got her latte and was forced to not eat her cake until they made one up for her, which still took forever to get. This bakery is pretty good for sweet treats and baked goods, and is suboptimal for lunch/breakfast sandwiches. If you want a NY style bagel, they do not deliver this. They will make a bagel sandwich with toppings but you have to spread the Philadelphia cream cheese on yourself from the tub. I cannot speak to other food--e.g. quiche. One of the perks of this bakery is it's anti-hipster feel in a sea of those popping up (although I think all food at Mylo is delicious). Like the name, it's Got a community feel. Worst experience ever. It's only receiving two stars because the brownie was good. The customer service was awful. We weren't greeted, we were very rudely assisted. I asked for my brownie to be warmed up, and the employee working with me seemed as if it was the most excruciating task. This was our third time visiting this downtown place and was by far the worst. We like to visit this shop when we come to Arkansas and usually have a pleasant experience but this time was nothing of the sort. Their staff was not nice and friendly, which is unfortunate because the breakfast was rather enjoyable and so was the brewed coffee--lots of options. There was an abundance of staff yet none were helpful. It shouldn't be an inconvenience to warm something in the microwave. One of our three breakfast sandwiches was forgotten and no apologies were offered for the inconvenience. When it was handed over, it was in a to go bag. I love the diversity among the customers and it truly is a "community" gathering spot, but service is so important in a place like this. Hire employees that smile and are willing to help make a customer's day. There was a woman from Texas that was turning in her application and she had the brightest smile.
