Cookies at Community Bakery, Little Rock

Absolutely awesome. Arrived just after the opened and everyone was just so friendly. Mrs. K. wasn't up for breakfast, so I enjoyed their "Ciabatta" which is a breakfast sandwich with sausage and egg and cheese and spinach and tomato. A quick dab of some hot sauce and it went from five stars to six stars. My hot coffee was hot and perfectly caffeinated to last the rest of the day. But the standout? The chai tea. Mrs. K. pronounced it the very best chai tea that she has ever had. Just the right amount of cinnamon dust on top of the roamed milk with a nicely spicy and creamy hot tea underneath. It was amazing. Thank you! Oh and the "Woo pig sooie" icing on the cookies? Awesome! WPS! [Review 2262 of 2024 - 358 in Arkansas - 23279 overall]

We love community bakery!! Everything is so fresh and locally sourced. Marquetta is wonderful and always so helpful as are most of the employees here. Hands down one of our fav breakfast spots!!

I loved going here when I once lived in LR, and was so happy to see it still open! Great bakery items! ...their bagel with salmon was weak, though. Still, much love..

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great food, but cleanliness is a serious issue[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've visited this bakery several times over the past month while in Little Rock on business trips from Houston. My first impression was overwhelmingly positive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place had a steady stream of customers--a good sign--and the baked goods appeared fresh.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was especially impressed by their spicy turkey panini, which is hands-down one of the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, my positive perception took a sharp turn due to one glaring issue: cleanliness. [[HIGHLIGHT]]During a visit yesterday, I was craving one of their petit fours--until I noticed flies crawling around inside the display case, and directly on top of the cookies and pastries.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Disturbingly, the staff behind the counter seemed oblivious to this unsanitary situation. I reluctantly settled for the turkey panini, hoping the food prep area in the back was held to a higher standard. The sandwich, once again, was excellent--if you can manage to put aside the nagging concerns about hygiene. I returned this evening hoping it was a one-off experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I didn't spot any flies this time (perhaps I didn't want to look too hard), I did witness an employee behind the counter cleaning up for closing--at the same counter that had flies the day before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After wiping something off the floor, the employee proceeded to assist me without washing their hands. I hesitated to place an order, hoping someone else would help me. But no one else came. I eventually ordered a few cookies and a cupcake--much less than I had planned, as I had hoped to bring back a box of pastries on my flight home. To their credit, the employee did put on gloves before boxing my order--but only after handling the box liner with unwashed hands. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That, paired with the fly issue from the day before, completely overshadowed the great food and initial positive impression.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cleanliness is not optional--especially in food service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I sincerely recommend that management reinforce basic food safety and hygiene practices with staff. [[HIGHLIGHT]]With better attention to cleanliness, this could easily be a four-star spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Until then, two stars feels appropriate.

Visited here on a vacation after seeing that they had an amazing sausage roll. I'm just going to say that it did not disappoint.

Somehow, despite the name - which reveals little to nothing - the place had exactly what I expected: coffee drinks, craft beer on tap, some food, a lot of vintage/used clothing for sale, music, art, and a place to enjoy it all. I sat at the bar/counter after poking through the clothes, drank a bit, snacked some, chatted, and learned that, come evening, the space is also home to live music. Rose Garden Market & Co. is covering a lot of ground. It's funky, unique, filled with a lot to look at and, with the exception of a beer priced - surprisingly - above $8 was a well-priced, quirky neighborhood spot that I enjoyed hanging at. The place is the opposite of homogenous or IG-friendly. Rather, it's a reflection of the owner who I imagine to be both an artist, an aficionado of vintage duds, and a fan of live music. Rose Garden Market & Co. is the antithesis of Starbucks and that's a very good thing.

Traveling through a Little Rock for work, my group decided to grab breakfast before flying out. We came in due to the raving reviews from a multitude of online sources and they did not disappoint. I ordered the Root Benny and the blueberry muffin based on the host's recommendation. First cut into my poached egg and I already knew it was the start of a culinary journey. Absolute flavor and texture perfection. The seasonal greens (steamed kale?) paired so well with the greens and the crostini was the perfect vehicle for yolk dipping. The blueberry muffin was small but delicious--exactly what you should expect from a muffin. I wish I would've remembered to order the cookies to go. I suppose I'll have to come back.

After not having been there since before covid, I went back yesterday. I noticed the remodel and saw the lack of a case featuring cakes and other sweets. OK - I thought as long as it still tastes the same. I heard an employee tell another customer that the same family still owned it. I got my old favorite -- lemon blueberry tea cake and a cupcake with coconut and caramel topping the icing. My sister who has celiac bought several soups, many pieces of cheesecake, an individual lemon pie, cookies and more. She took a bite of the little pie as soon as we got in the car -- let me tell you it was awful. The lemon did not taste at all lemony. It tasted mostly of chemicals. When I got home, I ate the cupcake and the cupcake itself was dry and barely edible. The frosting was some unknown concoction that tasted of chemicals also. My sister told me this morning that she ate more stuff when she got home and she has been sick all night and still today. I googled Dempsey and it says that Paula Dempsey sold the bakery to Friendly Bakery. They did the remodel and I am assuming the food was also "remodeled." I'm sure it was a "money" thing because that is what big business always does -- look at the bottom line. I am so disappointed. I used to go there for lunch when I worked downtown but I know for sure, I won't be going back. I did not select "service" or "ambiance" as noted above. I didn't find anything wrong with either. It was the chemical taste of the food and the lack of freshness that I am upset about.
