Community bakery could be so much better. I have been at least 4 times because people say it's so good, and I thought maybe I wasn't ordering the right thing or something. But, each time was more disappointing. The food has never been bad, but it's never been outta this world either. The avocado melt is a good vegetarian option, but it's SMALL. The corn chowder is really good, the other soups I've tried were forgettable. Literally, I forget what I had. I've also had the veggie panini, good but small! What's with the small food?? I like to eat! Once I got a whole strawberry cheesecake from here to bring to a get together. It cost $40. Yep... forty bucks! It was just OK. For $40 it needs to be fabulous. Next time I will just get a frozen cheesecake from the store and put strawberries on it. NOT worth the money. The iced sugar cookies are amazing, as are the petit fours, but that's about it. On another note: The very first time I came here, I went with my hubby for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The place was really chaotic!! There were 2 different lines, and we did not know which one to get it. There were no signs explaining how the place runs. Well, we ended up in the bakery line and could not order anything hot. I have been coming to Community Bakery for so long, some of this current staff was still wetting themselves while lying in a drooling state of infant euphoria. It seems that much of this staff has never segued from that type of self absorption, either. Before I progress, I received excellent service from a young black female (sorry that I did not get your name!), who was attentive, looked at me and spoke directly to me and treated me like...well, a paying customer. With that said... Having been in customer service my entire life, I have learned that a simple word to a waiting customer, "Hi, sorry that we are so busy. Thank you for coming in. I promise I will be with you in a moment!" Will placate this person for quite a long time. Conversely, running around customers, avoiding eye contact and orbiting in your own self-importance, only aggravates customers, accentuates their wait and ruins their experience in YOUR place of business. THIS is the Community Bakery experience! Even when they aren't extremely busy, more employees ignore customers rather than acknowledge and speak to customers. This is BAD for business. And, seems to be the pattern on a Tuesday (like today), a Sunday, or a Thursday evening. That is, this has been my personal experience more often than not lately. IT WASN'T ALWAYS THIS WAY! Look, I get the whole, snarly, alternative, urban, often flippant attitude. Yes, you are all hip. You also have a job, so acknowledge and take care of your paying customers. As for the young lady who DID help me (while tie dyed, antler lady never seemed to acknowledge a single customer...even to say either "hello," "thank you," or "let me get someone to help you"), thank you for being calm, focused and customer oriented. Attended an office party where we ordered a cake from here. The party planner was MORTIFIED at the quality and appearance. Honestly we would have been better off homemade. They "decorated" the cake by frosting it with a tub of icing and sprinkling some chocolate chips on top (not evenly). Then there was a red sprinkles mark like someone accidentally spilled sprinkles before the cake was sent out. We let them know our disappointment upon picking this up and they had no response. Love this spot. It's a go-to for the community--espcially for cookie, cakes, etc. However, I've also had multiple breakfast/lunch meetings at community bakery. Never have been a fan of the bakery aspect. The cake is always dry and they bake the crunchiest cookies this side is the Mississippi. Now. That behind said. The cafe is AWESOME. Their daily soups are some of the best I've ever had anywhere. Sandwiches are pretty good. The fruit tart is fantastic. I used to work overnight and would stop in for a couple of hours on my way home from work for coffee and a tart. My sister ordered a smash cake and two dozen cupcakes for my niece's third birthday. We were all extremely disappointed because the cake and cupcakes were dry. Hands down the worst dining experience I've had while visiting Little Rock. The establishment was not clean and the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Ordered a Cuban sandwich that was so cold the cheese had not even melted. Never received my coffee and after asking for the quiche we ordered twice we ended up just asking for a refund so that we could leave. Breakfast is what I typically eat here. Sausage roll is to die for and I ate them every day I most likely would. Sausage (not spicy) with cheese in the center of a yeast roll.
