I was originally going to visit a well known cafe in Charlotte for their macarons and baked goods one morning, however I am very glad I found this cozy and calm cafe by chance. This was just a short walk away from the Airbnb so my boyfriend and I came here for coffee and breakfast/lunch. They serve breakfast food even at 11:30am, and upon approaching the counter the two men working were very friendly and eager to help. I asked for suggestions on what food dishes were popular, and they had excellent recommendations like the Nashville hot chicken sandwich for lunch (didn't get to try), but we opted for the Pulled Pork Johnny Hot cakes. I'm so glad they suggested it, it was delicious! Noted also that they asked immediately upon finding out we were sharing the meal if we would like the dish on two plates (which I thought was really considerate and convenient). Even the woman working who brought our food out to the table was very cheerful and nice. The size of the one dish we had was pretty big considering the portion was split on two plates. The hot cakes were a pleasant yummy surprise. I thought they would be super sweet like pancakes (which I don't prefer), but happily they were more savory and full of corn bits which complimented the pulled pork well. The egg on top was cooked well with crisp edges. The dish was flavorful and I'm glad we got it. The lavender oat milk latte iced was very good, and my boyfriend got a tea which was also delicious. Overall, this is such a cozy and friendly place to visit and I am glad to been able to support a place with a great and meaningful mission, as well as experience the friendly service and food. What a fantastic place and even better cause. The staff is beaming, with beautiful smiles and great energy. The food really shows the love and preparation put into it. I am so happy to have finally gotten a chance to try this place, it has wonderful service, delicious food and drinks. Definitely a place I will be visiting more often. We got the pulled pork Johnny cakes, side of grits, fruit, and home fries and some teas and juice. We're so glad we decided to split the food because the portions are great, we felt very full afterwards. The Johnny cakes were something so different and every piece on there complimented so well. Visited Friday morning for brunch solo. Parking will not be an issue! They have a nice size parking lot - several spots were available even at 11 am. I ordered: $28.14 - Gingerbread Latte ($5) - Pulled Pork JohnnnyCake ($14) - Grits w/ cheese ($4) and Fresh Fruit ($3) The JonnyCake was good, however I was not a fan of the pulled pork. I would try this again but change the meat and ask for scrambled eggs. The grits were just missing something for me - maybe I should have put some pepper on it. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach - I took half the order home. I saw such a diverse crowd here (old and young) which was beautiful to see honestly. First timer here! Been wanting to try it out. First off, plenty of parking right outside, huge plus considering location - there's a big parking lot fyi. This time went for coffee and bakery treats. I went a little crazy and purchased a morning bun, chocolate chip cookie, cashew brownie, and PB&J Blondie. A cold brew and a lavender latte. To be fair the treats were split among 3 lol. Community Matters Cafe is absolutely incredible. We are here at least once a week and it never disappoints. The people here are amazing and they really just make you feel like you're at home. You can't go wrong with the breakfast or the lunch focused options, both are amazing. My absolutely favorite is the ricotta toast but truly, you can never go wrong. Their coffee is really good too! Their lattes are very sweet so be ready but they are still very good. The honey bee latte is my absolute go-to and it is fabulous. They also have a great rewards program as well to check out! This place is so great as a cafe but their mission and impact on our community is irreplaceable. While you're here, definitely look into this amazing organization. The BLT sandwich I got was VERY good, the atmosphere was chill, and the staff was really friendly. The Charlotte Rescue Mission is near the restaurant, and the restaurant employees some of the people from the mission to help them became productive members of society once they complete their program. We waited for our food for an hour. During that time our server went to drop the check before we had even gotten our food, then realized we hadn't gotten our food and made a joke about it. We sat that whole time with empty waters, and finally had to ask for refills. When the food did finally come the bread/bun tasted stale, my food came out at before my partners, so i was mostly done by the time their came out, and my partners order was incorrect. I've worked in restaurants for years, but this was a rough experience. It could have been greatly helped by manager Involvement or more contentious service. read more

The first impression of this place was WOW! For starters there was ample parking; a nice new parking lot really makes it easy to get in and out. (Yes I had to compliment the parking lot... I know... but it's so nice not having to worry about finding a place to park.) Once I stepped in I fell for the space. Big and open, full of exposed bricks and piping, cool tables and sitting spaces await on the coffee shop side. The lower level for the cafe also looked beautiful. I ordered a simple americano and it did not disappoint. The initial signs of a good coffee is 1. there is a natural cream floating on top 2. you can't see through the coffee!! Everything was yummy - they just need to actually roast the bread until it gets a little color - minor. On our way out of the city to Asheville, we decided to stop for a quick bite to eat. Of course, I Yelped and it led me to Community Matters Cafe. The name alone is what made me choose this place over the others. It was also less than 1 mile from our Air b&b. They had a limited menu on Saturdays but their sandwiches looked amazing. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich and hubby ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. These sandwiches were amazing!! They were large sandwiches on brioche bread. Hubby got a french press coffee and I ordered an iced mocha latte. Food and drink-wise everything was superb. I'm still having dreams of their sandwiches. Also, their sausage is like nothing I've ever had. It was quality meat and may even be hand pattied instead of an already packaged patty. What really drew me in was how much they support their local community. As someone who is personally involved in community outreach, it touches my heart when I see the same. They support the Charlotte Rescue Mission. I purchased a book and some ground coffee to bring back to my father who loves community missions/coffee shops. I was a bit bummed when they didn't have a nice paper bag with their logo to put it in but hey... first-world problems?... So this is actually my second time visiting the community matters cafe. Oh and I'm definitely going to continue visiting this place. Today I had the French toast which was simply amazing. I don't know why but if I see French toast on a menu I have to try it hoping that I can find something wrong with it. Why do you ask! Because French toast is simple to make but if you can make the French toast unique, oh my god I'm in love. Well i can say that I'm in love! They definitely are apart of the French toast makers community for me. I also had a cinnamon bun latte and I'd say WOW WOW WOW. Just try it I promise your socks will be blown off in seconds. Not to mention the staff is also so beautiful and friendly. The came all the way outside to the outside seating to see my little dog and give him some loving admiration which he loved. He's spoiled guys lol. Okay now to touch on the most important part which I took a picture of! Conveniently located on 1st Street right behind the Panther's practice fields on Cedar, the large parking lot and wonderfully restored industrial building beckons to stop and stay awhile. Fresh roasted coffee beans fill the air and immediately I think, "I made a good choice coming here." Plenty of seating for dine in or takeout, the place is laid out well. Lots of space to work, too. LaTonia was my server. Polite, knowledgeable, and cheery she took expert care of me. Perfect. I ordered an egg, sausage, potato and cheese sandwich on a toasted brioche bun with a side of collards. It was prepared perfectly although I prefer handmade sausage patties to the two little manufacturerd ones. At $9 it was priced fairly. A pot of coffee was left at the table making my $2 cup a steal. Nice. Recently on Fox News Channel 8 they highlighted their restaurant and POV. The spokesperson stated, "The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, it's community." They're right. I'm not really a kale gal - however, if you put fried chicken on top, parmesan cheese and some croutons - I'm in! The Kale Caesar Salad is percent worth a shot if you are a little iffy on kale! Its covered in a vegan cashew caesar vinaigrette that I would not have known was vegan if it was not described as such on the menu. My sister got the New Orleans Chicken Sandwich which came with Cajun hot sauce and slaw pickles on a brioche bun. We also got the Cuban Sandwich with pulled pork, swiss, smoky corn mayo, pickle lusty monk mustard on ciabatta with a side of home fries! Last but certainly not least - is probably the best French toast I've had in Charlotte. Look at the super crunchy crust of the Sugar Crusted French Toast on brioche with whipped ricotta, and fresh fruit. I understand Community Matters Café "is an extension program of Charlotte Rescue Mission - an addiction recovery program that offers its 120-day recovery program free of charge" which is super awesome! The location is just on the outside of Uptown near the stadium. There is plenty of parking. The building is large with plenty of capacity for seating in a social distanced world. Love this cafe and it's mission! The cafe is split into two parts, a coffee bar area and a sit down restaurant area. There's also ample outdoor seating with a covered patio (perfect for hot days). I've only tried the coffee here and love the vanilla foam cold brew so much that I keep getting it every time. It's a bit loud here in the mornings, I usually go around 8:30 am, but not too loud to precent working. I love the natural light, wooden furniture, and exposed brick. I came here after hours on a Yelp elite event I was so thankful for the opportunity to be able to learn about this business and all the amazing things they are doing in the community and for everyone that are struggling with addiction. We spoke with one of the managers Paul to hear first hand how much good they are doing at this amazing cafe. We had a nice spread of food that included French toast, cookies, chicken sandwich, salad and ricotta toast. Out of all the food and drink options the chai tea latte was out of this World delicious and flavorful. The ricotta toast was creamy and with some tartness from the tomatoes. I will definitely return again not just because of how great the food and drinks are but because it is very rare you get to eat at a place that is doing so much good in the community. read more

My mothers egg sandwich w/ brioche and sausage was dry too. Server did his best as it got a bit busy while we were there but he didn't seem to intrigued in helping us. My mother and I felt a little judged but that could just be me overthinking. The brussel sprouts were good but they should've chopped off more of the stem as they got a little hard to chew.
