Part of the business didn't reply or reply that they do not fix issues as such, however, this business was the first to respond and offered a free estimate (just need to drop off my computer for a 24 hours check and an estimate) Kevin the owner replied a few times to my question via text on Yelp very quickly and very professionally. At the end of the day, after 24 hours and a decent estimate I fixed my computer there and so far so good! Very satisfied overall! You can trust your computer repairs with them Two years later, my iMac could no longer support my photography hobby. Decisions , decisions: Do I spend $4k or more on an iMac that was powerful enough, of do I take my old iMac, in good running g condition but underpowered and lacking storage capacity, to Kevin and for a few hundred get it upgraded. I chose the latter option. Kevin upgraddd the iMac to 32 mb and replaced the 1 terabyte dusk drive with a 4 terabyte drive. He moved all the applications and saved and restored all my data. First, let me say thank you to all of the prior reviewers of Computer City Repairs. I went to CCR for my laptop issue because of their superior rating and reviews on Yelp, 4.9. I was not disappointed! One of my favorite things was that CCR did not charge me for the diagnostic. They did not charge me just to tell me what was wrong. I assume that cost was built into the price I paid for the repair, but still it's wonderful not to be charged to just to be told what's wrong when you already have a problem. My issue involved an XPS 13 Dell laptop. When I pressed the power button, the power button remained lit for approximately 10 to 15 seconds, and then it would die. The screen was absolutely non-responsive, black, and no Dell logo. This could've been a very bad situation where I lost all of the data on my laptop. However, CCR was able to successfully diagnose the problem in a short period of time and make the repair at what I deem to be a fair price. I am a very selective consumer, and I highly recommend this establishment. I should also note that I don't frequently write Yelp reviews, but CCR deserved it, and the time required to write the review!!! read more

I have repaired a lot of computers for people, but when I hit a roadblock I found Kevin at Computer City . He was amazing. First of all he quickly found the first problem, the hard drive was bad, but then it got complicated. The BIOS was corrupted and he spent a ton of time trying to get it fixed. When he finally said it would need a new motherboard, and gave me the full estimate, he was STILL willing to accept only 45 dollars for the diagnosis. I know for certain he had spent hours on it. I recognize how fair and honest he is. I authorized the full repair and he got the computer up and running at a very reasonable price and as quickly as possible. My surface book 2 bought around 2016 got statuated with water and was seemingly all but broken during the week of finals! As a student this was the absolute worstcase scenario. Kevin, and the guys at Computer City Repairs not only were able to extract all of my data- saved documents, passwords, etc., but fixed my laptop to the point where it still works (needs to be plugged in to the power source if i were to use it) and I was able to hand in my last two essays for the winter quarter here at UCLA. I took my laptop in to be serviced for water damage , they did an assessment and was able to provide a very reasonable price. They even provided a 3 month warranty. Everything works fine the o Lu complaint I have is that my fan is now extremely loud and one of my USB ports isn't working. An absolute nightmare experience and one I'd hoped to never experience. I chose this shop due to its glowing reviews, many of which mention a honest owner. I had the opposite experience and, although it happened well over two months ago, I am still furious about it. Short summary: I brought my laptop (an HP Pavilion 360) in after a coffee spill. I was told the damage was extensive and they could either replace various parts (totaling $750) or replace the laptop with the same model (a refurbished one) for $550 and transfer the hard drive (thereby recovering my files for me). After almost two weeks I went to pick up the refurbished laptop. They attempted to charge me $650. I said this wasn't the quote I had gotten and frankly I was annoyed that it had taken twice as long as they'd told me. (They said they had ordered a refurbished laptop that had been "lost" in the mail and had to buy a second one, hence the delay. Sounds fishy to me that their supplier wouldn't provide a tracking number but who knows. Shit happens. I chalked up the delay to an anomaly. I only mention this part of the story because it's part of a consistent pattern of having handy explanations and a "not our fault" mentality.) I asked if they had managed to save all the short-term memory on the computer (i.e., cookies, browser histories). They said yes, absolutely, it was like nothing had ever happened and all of my settings were completely intact, but said I would need to update Windows. They had not done this themselves because they had lost my PIN to log into Windows. (They never called me to ask for it.) They also tried to keep my old laptop's (working) power cord, and only gave it back after I asked for it. When I took the laptop home I found that they had somehow managed to completely wipe the short-term memory despite "only" transferring the hard drive. All of the computer's settings were set back to factory default. My files were in the "Documents" folder but there were no cookies at all and I had to do password recovery on everything. Okay, whatever. I didn't like being lied to about the time, the cost, or what they'd done, but since I had a working laptop with my files on it, I was happy. Unfortunately it was not a working laptop. I had been told several times it was "just like new!" I don't know if anyone at the shop has ever used a new computer, but this laptop was the most awful machine I've ever used. Logging in to Windows could take up to 45 seconds; launching a web browser to check e-mail could take up to a minute, and about 20% of the time you opened a program, it would crash. It was so slow that, when you typed, there was a "lag" as if I was using a mechanical typewriter. I went in after two weeks of attempting to make the most of it, but the laptop was unusable. This is where the service went from "not great" to "bad." I asked multiple times to speak to the owner, the famous Kevin of the 5-star reviews, but he was always out. I even called in once to make sure he would be there, but when I arrived, he was "out to lunch" and I was told he wouldn't be back for at least an hour. (It was after 1 p.m.) In my final visit to the shop, I told the technician who claimed to have worked on my laptop that I wanted to return the computer because it didn't work, at all. I opened it up to show him. I also pointed out it was a different model than my old laptop (the screen was 1" smaller so you could easily visualize the difference). I was informed that it was indeed the same laptop, even when I held up the two computers on top of each other so they could see the size difference with their own eyes. (Note that screen size is a spec, just like RAM or keyboard layout, and smaller screens cost less.) The technician opened the laptop, measured with his hands, and said it was the same screen size "on the inside." Later, he said, "It is the same... just less." I was also told that my old computer "probably operated even slower." (It didn't. It worked fine.) I was told I "clearly" don't know anything about computers and that the refurbished model was fine (but I was also told they could "fix it" even though it was fine, according to them). At this point I was mostly speechless because, while I'm not any sort of tech genius, I can absolutely tell you that I know how my computer worked before being damaged, and that this "new" computer wasn't working at all. I did not want to waste any more time with this shop, nor did I trust them with my files anymore. Fortunately my husband stepped in and informed them if they didn't take back the computer, we would take the case to small claims court. At this point, they took the computer and issued me a refund without any more arguing. I purchased a new computer directly from HP and it works great. This shop tried to grift me and, when I confronted them about providing a different model than promised that didn't even work, they gaslighted and insulted me. read more

My friend's computer stopped working suddenly in front of us, and somehow he thought I had done something! It kept saying 'error with boot configuration." So I found these guys and what a relief they are! Kevin was on the case from start to finish and was so helpful. They did a free diagnostic consultation and told us exactly what was wrong with it--a corruption of the windows operating system" and he could simply re-install it! He also said he could transfer or retrieve the data! Final cost: $120.00, and my friend's computer is working again, and our friendship restored! Extremely nice, patient and knowledgeable about Mac's and PC's. It's pretty close to UCLA in Westwood. I used Computer City Repairs for an extreme I9 Gaming/Video Editing/Adobe Design Work Station build. Very reasonable rates! As a student that's important for my budget. They also repaired my other Work Station after Microsoft bricked it (destroyed Windows 10 Bootloader), during a Windows 10 update. I made the mistake of letting Microsoft take control of my computer for the update. Don't! Computer City Repairs fixed my boot problem! They also cleaned the Work Station up, looks brand new! Computer City Repairs installed a new upgraded video card on my 2010 MacPro. Also had them install Dual NOS 3.46 GHz Xeon processors. Trying to get more life out of an 9 year old computer. The price ended up being quite reasonable, especially compared to the Apple store (which is not only a lot more expensive but is super annoying to make appointments at)!
