TLDR: It's over hyped and every employee has been rude AF both times. It's a social media trap I gave Con Azucar two chances and I have been disappointed twice. Initially I went on their 1 year anniversary and the wait was understandably long. My partner and I waited over 2 hours, initially thinking it may be 1 hour. We were able to place our order after 1.5 hours but it took another THIRTY minutes to get our drinks and food. I got the horchata latte and the torta de jamon and my girlfriend got the tamales, marzipan latte, and we shared a small hot chocolate to try. Personally, the horchata latte is as you would expect from any cafe really. I was super excited for the torta de jamon but it was a let down. It was a ham sandwich..... i feel that they could have made it more unique with a house sauce or /something/. Sadly it's just a ham sandwich with different bread and avocado. My girlfriend stated that the tamales were "extremely mid" and very dry, despite having toppings they recommended. We both got our food to go since we wanted to go study and it wasn't like there were enough tables in the cafe. The fact that they don't have enough tables though it's not that big of a deal because it's a cafe and there's not enough room that's fine. But I do think that choosing to have a 10 piece band and at least 5 dancers in a filled cafe which is already full is definitely...a choice. I digress, we got our food to go and they did not give us our food to go but for there. We wouldn't have cared if when we asked we didn't get glared at and subsequently insulted in spanish because they thought we didn't understand when we do. Our food was also thrown about inside the to go containers so it wasn't enjoyable and I had to reassemble my sandwich. The second time we went there was maybe 2 groups of 2 people ahead of us in line. So we thought we hit a good time to get some more coffee and give it another chance when they weren't as busy and hopefully kinder. Yet, we still waited 20 minutes to order and the cashier was also dismissive and rude. She did not want to take our order and even groaned before taking our order because the first cashier who helped the party ahead of us has to sit a group of people at a table and the first cashier asked the other person to handle our order. Then we waited another 25 minutes to get two drinks. The horchata latte and the dulce de leche latte. Two drinks, no food, took 25 minutes. we noticed that the 3 parties AFTER us got their drinks prior to us. Which would not have been as insulting if they weren't exactly the same drinks we ordered. when we asked about our drinks they ended up sitting in the back of their bar for another 5 minutes before we finally asked for a refund and the barista brought them out for us. When we confronted the barista as to why they were just sitting there, she just said "have a good day" with a rude a$$ tone. If she had just said "sorry it's been busy, here they are" it wouldn't have left such a negative impression. Suffice to say, I won't be giving them another chance to be rude and dismissive towards me for some mid drinks. It's an over hyped social media spot. If that's your vibe that's fine but don't have high expectations for quality. read more

I had been wanting to try this place forever because of their giant concha's and coffee! I finally got to try this past weekend and it was sooo delicious! When you enter, there is a gorgeous swing you can take pictures at and nice indoor and outdoor seating. Despite how busy they were, most of us got our drinks and food pretty quick. One of my friends had to wait a while for them to re make her sandwhich because someone took hers accidentally. The only reason this place wasn't 5 is because their concha which was $35 just didn't taste like the best concha I've ever had. My friends and I all agreed that it was just okay, but definitely a fun experience! My favorite item was the ham and cheese torta! So yummy with spicy peppers inside also you have to try their selfie lattes! They can print any photo you want on the drinks for just $1.50 extra, unless you get a specialty drink which includes a selfie for no extra charge. read more

Such a fun, yummy experience! We got a giant pink concha and a giant cafe con leche! They bring it out to you and it's super fun. And the kids had chocolate abuelitas coffee and chocomil en bolsa. Come early for the big pan dulce! Kids also loved the mini conchas. The tientas and the avocado toast are super delicious. El agua de Jamaica viene con chamoy y una paleta! The cucumber water is refreshing! Service was great. Erika was super nice. They will only bring out the big stuff when you have a table. I think this place is just cute for the aesthetic, coffee quality isn't that good, food is average. They take reservations for a table to sit down to enjoy your coffee and food; no one mentioned this to me until I saw a free table and sat down. You are a coffee shop, not a restaurant! Some people get their food on the wood plates and some in these cheap to go containers that look like you ordered take out when you are dining in. I gave this place a fair chance and tried it a good five times. I would much rather go to other quality coffee shops that don't have the flowers, swing, and reservations. If you are a coffee snob, I say try this once and see for yourself. read more

I found myself in the downtown area on a Friday afternoon around 12/1pm and decided to treat a friend to a coffee since she had never been to Con Azucar Cafe. It was pretty busy compared to the last time I had been, there was a short line forming outside. I decided this time to try a refresher and ordered the Pepino con Limón, I was a little surprised when I received it because it was filled to the rim with candy topped on top to it; a nice surprise. I ordered a Jamaica/raspberry refresher that was topped with candy and a tajin rim just like my drink. The refreshers weren't bad but they weren't also too special, as opposed to their horchata. My friend ordered the cold mazapan latte, it had a rim as well; however the latte itself tasted like a latte and there were no hints of mazapan. read more

I found this place on ig and decided to give it a try. I found street parking one streets over. The line was out the door. We waited in line 15 minutes on a Saturday at 9am. I think that was a long time. Only the person that is ordering can go inside everyone else waits outside. I ordered a duvaline latte and my husband an horchata latte. I wanted to add a picture on my latte and you order pay and go to the other side where you pick up the drink . Scan a QR code and upload a picture. I would think they should have the menu on the window since we we're waiting outside for a long time. They should explain how the picture process works so as soon as you pay it's scanned and you're go to go. Or they should have pre selected pictures of the most famous people and the cashier can just add it on. There's limited seating inside the wait to get a table was 45 minutes. There was tables outside. Everyone was sanding around waiting on the other side of the store very cramped. The decor is cute definitely for ig and tic tok. The coffee was good. The beans weren't really strong but the flavors were there. It's your typical price for coffee. I like the coffee I would return based on the taste. They definitely need to reorganize their processes. The lady making the coffee seemed overwhelmed and just put any design on my husband order to push it through. Not the staff's fault definitely a management issue. The owner or manager was standing and talking to one of the girls. Go with time and not in a rush. read more

My daughter and I have had this spot on our wishlist since we saw the Frida lattes on social media. Several friends have recommended a visit so we were finally able to visit during our winter break. We came before 8am on a Friday. Bachata was playing. Our orders were taken in Spanish. You order at the counter and pick up your own drinks though they do bring food orders to your table on cute cutting boards. I had the Horchata Latte(hot) while mija had hers iced. She ordered avocado toast and I order the Torta de Jamon. The torta alone is worth the drive and search for parking, I kid you not. I don't usually eat meat but having grown up with El Chavo del Ocho and his love of these special sandwiches, I will partake now and then. I was not disappointed. My daughter asked for a slice of my torta and she said she will definitely order that on our next visit. There's lots of great drink options and other treats. Prices are high but that's everywhere these days. It's a small spot so be aware if you'd like to be seated. read more

I drove with my family for 1.5 hrs and was pretty disappointed. The coffee was good and the designs are cute but service was pretty bad. The line was long but It was because they were so slow, it was 90 degrees and people are outside yet 3 workers were standing around talking. We ordered the torta de Jamon, cappuccino, duvalin latte, Mexican Mocha, cafe en las rocas, agua de pepino and a giant concha. Drinks and torts were good, Concha was ok. We asked for a to-go box but they gave us a garbage bag for our overpriced concha?? I'm sure with the $50 you pay they can invest in to-go containers. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the BLT and You can't go wrong with a BLT. I ordered the cupcake concha and it was the worst thing ever! Some areas tasted like the bread I'm used to while others were sour or acidic it even left my tongue numb? I let them know and the nice lady just said okay thank you. Not much they can do now but I'm assuming it was a bad batch. I had my friend try it and she had the same reaction I did. The horchata Latte was good but they overpowered the drink with cinnamon dust that it tasted like chalk it was not as enjoyable with time. Visiting San Jose for a weekend and notice this place and decided to check it out since there has always been a lot of hype surrounding this place and I will say it doesn't really live up to the expectations. First the wait to find a table was long but understandable there's only a limited amount of space and it's a first come first serve, the floor is really dirty and saw a dead cockroach the workers are very friendly and helpful. I finally tried out this cafe after the hype has died down. I came on a weekday so it wasn't too busy. It took me forever to find parking since it's located in a busy intersection in DTSJ. I finally found a spot but later realized it was a 30 minute parking. Entering the cafe, the aesthetic is nice and they have a cute little photo section right by the entrance. Their coffee menu was unique and I ended up getting their dulce de leche latte, which is their "caramel latte" version. I didn't really find anything special with the flavor of the coffee beans and the dulce de leche flavor. Their prices are a bit on the higher side too. I do like the aesthetic of this cafe. Though, not ideal to sit down and do some work since it seems like the tables are meant for people to sit down and eat. There are plenty of other cafes around the area, so I probably won't go out of my way to visit this cafe again. read more

My fiancee's mini bread turned out savory, stuffed with cream cheese, a surprise given its placement with the rest of the pan dulce. Very beautiful Cafe. Went there Friday morning and the girl who took our order was great. Customer service skills were a 10. I wanted an Abuelita drink but iced and I didn't see it on the menu. I asked if they can make it iced and she recommended a shot of espresso with it. So I ordered an iced Abuelita drink with a shot of espresso topped with whipped cream. It's really is a cute place, and I do enjoy their specialty lattes, especially the mocha Mexicano it's my favorite out of all their lattes. Specialty lattes- 5 stars Wait- 0 stars Pricing of their pan dulce (the little ones) 0 stars I'm very happy that a Latin owned business is doing so well and wish them nothing but the best, however coming in for just a latte is a thing of the past with the introduction of their concha gigante and their cafe con leche gigante. More power to them for finding something so marketable, but I do know that there is a lack of turnover for tables to have a seat at since everyone and their whole family comes for this. One lady who had not even ordered took 5 of their 7 tables for her entire group. Unless you have food, you should not be allowed to sit down. Give people little numbered tags and only then should they be able to have a seat. They need a better system for this. They say 45 minutes for a table, but don't enforce it. Another man with no coffee and his whole arsenal of apple products is taking up space at a table and he's been here longer than I have, which is approaching an hour of time. Only place you can sit is outside, and a homeless man with pants hanging below his butt and no underwear underneath is bothering everyone waiting in line for change. Sunday morning 06/25 - Drove from WA state to San Jose to this place after seeing the TikTok trend. Came early, was already busy. Staff was slow, goofing around rather than making sure their customers were okay. Large concha was eh okay, a bit dry. Ordered the family coffee mug to share. Delivery was very slow ... not up to the 18 hour drive I made here. 3 stars because I ended up making it here. Not 5 because it was disappointing. To make it worse .. I paid $50 for a large concha and they provided me a large garbage bag to take the remainder home. For $50 could I have at least gotten a take home box? Found this cafe on Instagram and decided to come check it out because of the large concha I saw in pictures. I was surprised how long the line was to get it, but once I made it through the door I realized why! It's super cute inside with a Mexican theme. There was Spanish music playing in the background and a cute flower wall with a swing to take pictures. The workers are friendly which is always a plus. They have lots of coffee options and fun specialty lattes! It was only me and my friend so we decided not to get the huge concha and opted for the small individual ones which were delicious! I really enjoyed this place. The service along with their products were great. My only advice is that if you take children make sure you eat inside as opposed to the tables outside as their are homeless in the area and they can be aggressive. Unfortunately for me as much as I loved this place, my grandchildren would never allow me to take them back to this place again.
