It's been 30 years since I worked for Connie's and had their pizza again as I left for the USAF, and didn't come back until now. Nostalgia hit and the place looks great! The pizza is still tasty and delicious as the pan crust is crispy and ingredients are still fresh and wonderful. I almost accidentally ran into the restaurant with an ice cream but caught the staff member smirking at my treat as he sought to seat my party. I noticed a "$20 gratuity for desserts" sign, made a beeline for the door and wolfed down the rest of my ice cream before returning. I recognize my negligence but I wish the staff member were more upfront about the policy rather than be smug and intentionally try to bill me for it later. It's just such a disingenuous enforcement that can leave a sour taste in the mouths of well-meaning patrons. I didn't miss too much as my friends ordered a 7" pepperoni and cheese deep dish pizza to split. I entered around 5:55pm. It took an eternity for us to receive our pizza. I don't blame them for taking a long time. It can take a while if the pizza is fresh but we mentioned to the server multiple times that we had a flight to catch as he kept goating us to upgrade our pizza size. In the end we received our pizza around 6:41, nearly a full hour from when we ordered. I'm not native to Chicago but I'm not sure what we received counts as deep dish. The crust was very thick, almost like a bread. The cheese and tomato sauce layers were thin. The pizza was certainly not served in a deep dish. Rather, it was served on a plate. I think this restaurant would be akin to going to Olive Garden for Italian food. I definitely don't mean to bash on the chain as a whole. Could just be this location. But.. yeah - definitely not the place to go as a tourist. Expensive and not what we were looking for. And we didn't have the best experience with the staff members. read more

Our pizza came cold, with barely any cheese and the smallest 10" you would ever see. I had to add more marinara sauce, garlic and oregano from home. The pizza was dry! It's what I would expect from a frozen pizza but not coming from the restaurant. Extremely disappointing. read more

We were actually super happy with our experience! My parents were visiting from out of state and loved that there was a parking lot attached. The restaurant is HUGE so we did have to wait a bit between contacts with the server and he forgot to bring us silverware but aside from that, everything was great. Ordered the honey glazed salmon. Upon opening my box for takeout I was in awe at the lack of food. For $21 I've seen and tasted better portions at a homeless shelter. The salmon was anorexic and the potatoes literally had no flavor. There was one piece of broccoli in my dinner. I took my family of 6 to Connie's original after walking through the zoo lights at Lincoln Park Zoo. It had been a few years since we had been there. We were so happy that we choose to go there. The place was decorated for Christmas and looked spectacular. The pizza was delicious. Perfect pan pizza. Great service and when we were leaving the manager Edgar offered to take pictures for us as a family at various spots in and out of the restaurant. Great experience and great pizza. I was visiting town while attending my son's Naval Graduation this week, and WOW!! I absolutely loved the ambience in this place. If my phone wasn't dead while I was there I would've shared some pics however I guarantee you won't be disappointed. The people are friendly and food was great!! They have plenty of seating and observed many groups of people coming g in and out. I tried their calamari, deep dish pizza and bruschetta with no regrets. This is the first deep dish I tried in Chicago I actually liked. The crust was crispy, the cheese had a great flavor, the sauce was so good with just a hint of sweetness. There outstanding friendliness and warmth made my day end a very pleasant manner which was not otherwise during my stay in Chicago. I had a mini build your own pizza with chicken and mushrooms. That is my usual simple pizza configuration and I must say that Connie's use prime ingredients and take making pizza seriously. I still have burns on my palate from how fast I ate mine. My favorite Pizza in Chicago. I live 2 blocks from Home Run Inn Pizza so I dont get to Connies often but when I do its a treat. The reason I gave 4 of 5 stars. My wife was at Connies with some old coworkers on a Saturday afternoon and I asked her to bring me home a small pizza. She did and the pizza was excellent but the bill wasnt. $23.74 for the pizza $2.79 for the tax. Heres the part that knocked down your score $4.27 added on for a tip. You added a 18% tip for bringing a small pizza to a table that was leaving you a tip for the meal they already had.Total $30.80. Thats about the same price for a large pizza at Home Run Inn for a large pizza. Is this standard practice at Connies or did your server just scam my wife ? I have never seen a tip added to a carry out without the customers permission. read more

We were provided water at 8:08 and placed an order for 1 large original pan, 1 large see dish, mozzarella wedges, and bread service. We were told the pizza would take about 45 minutes to be done. There was live music playing outside that was pleasant! The bread was served quickly, the mozzarella wedges in about 10-15 minutes, and the pizzas at 9:11 (~ 1 hour). The mozzarella were slightly empty/airy, but good 3/5. The original pan crust was great! 4/5. The deep dish was not good or authentic deep dish, was quite disappointed! We had a great experience dining in person here in the Fourth of July. It was nice and cold inside, which was a welcome relief from being outside all day. It was not busy and the tables were well spaced. The overall decor was what you would expect for Italian / pizza at this price point. Everyone loved their food. It was not our first time having the pizza, which is consistently good. We also had pasta, chicken tenders, and eggplant parmesan at the table. Be advised the pan pizza does take a bit of time to cook but we were happy to chill and eat garlic bread. It was so appreciated to get a pitcher of iced tea for refills on a hot day. Over all the food here is okay at best. My family and I ordered a pan pepperoni, wings, house salad and fries when we walked in to be ahead of the game. We waited 45 - to an hour for the pizza, the fries were over cooked, the wings were okay. My family and I stood for pure common courtesy.. The place itself is staffed very well but I'm assuming the staff cannot keep up with the flow of customers... unfortunately being a Chicago staple doesn't always mean great at everything.
