My husband and I have been to so many MFG restaurants, but this one is special. As Nyc locals, we were very excited to try out this new addition while vacationing in Miami. It did not disappoint! Staff is lovely and welcoming. We were very happy and surprised to see one of our favorite people, Amanda of Raines law room, is managing here now. It is clear she is bringing the attention to detail here. Food is spectacular- (try the squash carpaccio! It was her recommendation and was AMAZING) it did get very loud and crowded with the Miami crowd but regardless we enjoyed a spectacular intimate dinner. Thank you Amanda and the team here! Very disappointing for a Major Food Group restaurants. Where do I start... 1. We specifically reserved indoors. The hostess tried to sit us outdoors. She made us show her the email to prove we had specially requested indoors. 2. We were seated and someone took our drinks order. We then waited 15 mins for food menus to arrive. I had to ask someone to send some over as they never did. 3. Next, a different server from the server who took our drinks took our food order. It was very confusing as all night it seemed we had 2 servers. 4. Octopus arrived cold. We sent it back to be reheated. It came back cold again. So we just ate it cold. 5. Lobster capellini also arrived cold 6. Scallops had zero taste, basically inedible. As were the the side of mushrooms. 7. The staff kept on trying to take my cutlery and plates away from me which was very frustrating. Aside from this, the restaurant itself is very nicely decorated with a great vibe. Will not be coming back here anytime soon unless they address the issues of service and quality of food. read more

Beautiful restaurant and great location in the Design District. The setting, decor and design are superb. We sat on the covered 2nd floor terrace which was very charming and much quieter than the main dining room. Was looking forward to the meal but unfortunately the food and service did not live up to the ambience. the food was disappointing and underwhelming and the service was beyond terrible. The various pasta dishes were ok, not great. None of our party received the correct drinks that we ordered. And despite ordering plain cheese pizzas for the kids, the pizzas were full of veggies that we had to pick out by hand. Shine on you crazy diamond. In the heart of the design district this highly stylized restaurant delivers bad food. Before the bad let's lead with the umm the good. Uhh. Service is good. The bottom floor is designed. Not sure I'm in a position to review it. The sommelier is friendly. My only critique of service was when I asked between 2 wines she described the wines to me. Hmmm. I'm fairly expert in this area rather than then referring me to the som. He preferred my other choice, alas it was too late. The margherita pizza was fine. There that that's end of the compliments. The chopped salad was dreadful. The dressing had a twang to it that I still can't place. It was maybe a raisiny balsamic with a a hint of eel sauce. I mean it was unfathomably bad. The pappardelle with boar ragu was equally confounding. It too had a distinct after taste that I could not place. Mind you it was a bad after taste not oh wow that could be interesting. The meatballs had an air of mystery and could have been good had the salt content not overpowered everything else. Had the salt been in balance it might have been intriguing if not tasty. Finally the chicken was perfectly cooked unfortunately it was lathered with a lemon sauce that frankly tasted like dawn. The dishwashing sauce. Look prices are high here but they're not crazy. The wine list has a few gems. The decor isn't my taste but it may be yours. And the chef obviously knows how to prepare foods but every food cratered on sauce. read more

Dropped into Contessa last Wednesday with my wife for lunch after reading glowing review on line. Gorgeous ambience and great buzz. Good service but food did not live up to billing. Pizza was very good but artichoke salad bitter and sour. Requested Rose was not drinkable and sent back and switched to prosecco. Cappuccino was pathetic and not drinkable and not made correctly even after sent back first one. Disappointing culinary experience for such a high end establishment. read more

Contessa was not worth the price. I really enjoyed the decor and furnishings, but there is not much more to enjoy. The meatballs were very good as well, but that is where my praise stops. The margarita pizza was not tasteful at all. The waiter recommended the spicy lobster in angel hair pasta which did not live up to the hype. The food took FOREVER to come out and water refills were a rare occurrence. Not to say it was an awful restaurant, but to pay that much you are not getting your money's worth. The ambiance, decor, and vibes were immaculate!!!! Truly a romantic restaurant for a date or a girls chill night out. As per the food, the appetizers were delicious. I tried the meatballs, carpaccio, and octopus. The octopus was good but I've had better at other restaurants in the area. The meatballs are a MUST as they're perfectly cooked and the sauce is to die for. I would not recommend the veal as it is completely overpriced and lacking in flavor and size. For the price I expected veal that tastes better than some I could buy at any Argentinian or Italian hole in the wall for a quarter of the price. We had a very unpleasant experience mostly due to the service or lack thereof. Visiting my family for the Thanksgiving holiday, we arrived on time for a table of 7. Our waiter from the start never even smiled or made us feel welcomed and this continued from start to finish. For our drink order, when one of our guest ordered a Margarita, I can't describe the confused look on his face as if he never heard of such a thing. When the order was repeated, he went on to suggest a different cocktail. The same thing happened when someone else requested another drink- rerouted to the Cocktail List. He never informed us whether they had a limited bar or full bar service. His manner of attending to us made us feel Very uncomfortable. Suffice to say, the rest of the dinner felt rushed with our appetizers and entree orders. In fact, we had to ask for a second bottle of wine which would be his job and in his own best interest to monitor and attend to the fact we needed something more. This is not at all what I expect when I am visiting Miami and taking my family out to a nice dinner. Living in NY, I have visited all of the other restaurants related to the Major Food Group, so I was very excited to try Contessa in Miami. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Even at the end, our desserts arrived but our coffee orders never came nor did he check on our table. At that point, I'm ready to leave and never return. Check Please!! read more

The restaurant was beautiful, We arrived early for our reservation. The restaurant was about half full. I was told my table was not ready, but we could wait at the bar. We had a drink at the bar, our reservation was at 8pm at 8:05 I was seated at one of the 4 tables that had been empty from when I arrived. Arghhhh our server was amazing, the food was okay,it may have been because nothing was hot! Everything was warm. This restaurant was very disappointing. Went here on a recommendation from a coworker for lunch with a group of friends, but the pizza oven was not working and the gelato was not available. However, in each case the waitress did not tell us until after we ordered. Most of the time the waitress was no where to be found and we had to flag her down or ask the busboy to find her. I made a reservation for dinner for my parent's 30th anniversary. We arrived a little early and were sat beforehand. We have our own favorite Italian restaurant in Miami, but we live nearby so we decided to try this. The staff was nice, and they accommodated specific seating arrangements for the comfort of one of my parents. We basically ordered what our waiter recommended, and everything was delicious. We ordered individually, but our waiter actually recommended doing a bit of a family-style dinner with appetizers and sides, which was amazing as we got to try a little bit of everything. As for dessert, they surprised us with a "Happy Anniversary" set up which was really nice and my parent's loved it, as they weren't expecting it. The dessert was delicious but I ordered a cappuccino as mine, and it was one of the most delicious cappuccinos I've ever had in my life. It was the perfect way to end dinner. One thing to note: the staff/waiter does take a long time to check in and bring the tab, very normal in Europe. If you don't like lounging, I suggest getting ready to flag down your waiter. I don't think it's a Con, but it's definitely something to think of considering your preferences. We sat down at 6:53 and left around 8:55, so we were there for a while. Also, I'm sure they are fixing this but the restrooms on the first floor are out of order, so you have to use the restrooms upstairs that had a very long line of both men and women. On November 25th, I took a family member to dinner, having been to the Groups restaurant in New York. This experience was totally disappointing. Despite a nice atmosphere and friendly servers, the main entree (Chicken) arrived uncooked and inedible, no replacement or alternative was offered. The Appetizers were Ok, but all servings were barely warm. Clearly they were pre-prepared and not heated thoroughly. Then, and very troubling, we ordered Wine, Specialty wine at almost $40- a Glass and after. round, they started serving an inferior wine, without telling us, but I noticed. I told them and accepted it, but they tried to charge me almost $40- per Glass for a house wine and I had to fight to get it off the Bill. Again, I was not looking for free drinks, I just refused bro pay $40- per Glass for House wine. This establishment clearly does not have it together. At the Price Point it is a true disappointment. read more
