A hidden gem. The space is large and has plenty of tables open on Friday around 6pm. We started with the croquettes. They were little bites of heaven. I wish I could have 6 more right now. They were fried to a golden crisp and super soft and velvety In the center. The fish tacos were filling and fresh. Only thing I would change would be more chipotle aioli. I could have licked the plate. The French fries were perfectly seasoned and crisp. They give you a nice a heavy hand, which I love. My boyfriend loved his steak torta. It had a huge piece of fried cheese on it and it had a very well balanced flavor. The service was busy but our food didn't take long to calm and the food was hot. In a nutshell, it was the slowest service I ever had for brunch. We stayed there for almost one and a half hours and we spent most of the time for waiting. Especially, we couldn't order for 30 minutes. Although there were 3 servers at the hall. And the foods were not impressive at all after the long wait. My son ordered French Toast with Banana and he tried only one bite and he didn't want to eat it. French Fries was soggy and greedy. Slightly pre-emptive but just going to do it. Cook and dagger is very good, though the location is not that good. Came here for dinner on a Friday night, not that busy but again guessing it's probably coz of the location. Service was very good contrary to what people have said, though I sat at the bar. Marielle the bartender was good. Drinks list is quite good, got the tequila mockingbird, has a kick to it. For food, got the lamb burger, gamey though good. The fries were alright. They have a pretty good Sunday brunch menu although there's some overlap between the brunch menu and dinner menu. Overall everyone was very nice and the food and drinks were good. Location is not so great and the lighting around the place isn't very good either. Def should try it if in the area. Prices of most are $-$$ with good quantities. Most of the main dishes are 20+$. Best restaurant in Smithfield! Great food, great atmosphere, great staff and owners!!!

Not sure why we've put Cook & Dagger off for so long. I feel like we have tried to go but they have a gap where they are closed between lunch and dinner. Finally made it this past Thursday for lunch. We have a 10 week old so it's been more of a challenge to get out. The host was accommodating with seating us at a table with enough space for the car seat. The hubby and I split the croquettes, which were cheesy and delicious. The sauce gave them a nice kick of flavor. The hubby had the burger and I had the carne asada torta. Prices were between $15-$18 for sandwiches, which is a little on the pricer side. Also, add ons for the burger were $1 each, so a $15 burger could easily turn into $18 or $19. They are very generous with fries. The hubby really liked his burger, which he described as juicy and flavorful. I didn't know what to expect from my sandwich, but it was very very good. I thought the fried cheese would be over kill, since fried cheese could be very greasy and salty, but it was actually a nice addition to this sandwich. The meat was good quality and tender. I'm glad we finally made it here and would love to try other dishes on the menu. I would like to suggest they add a changing table in the bathroom. The bathroom is big enough and although most people enjoy dining without their children, we have been dining out with our baby frequently. read more

Each person in our party ordered something different off the menu and we're all pleased with the food presentation, taste and quality. The duck was tender and flavorful meal. I give it a 5/5 stars on the food! Our waitress although knowledgeable was a bit kurt/irritated with our inquiries. If you go, dress warmly in Winter - it was as cold inside tonight as outside and we kept our coats and scarfs on most of the evening. Brunch was good! Had a reservation for 7 on a Sunday, but the place was relatively empty. The menu is interesting but there weren't too many breakfast food options listed. I ordered the eggs Benedict on biscuits instead of English muffins. The eggs were a bit overcooked but overall the dish was delicious. It came with home-fries and the portion was huge! The biscuits were more dense than flaky. I also tasted the poutine (REALLY good), and the banana foster French toast (also good, wish they had ice cream to go with it). Five stars without hesitation. My wife and I dined in at Cook & Dagger on Saturday night April 29th 2023 with a reservation. We started with wine, a cocktail and an appetizer, we decided to go with the Wings Du Jour (sour cream & onion) for the app and we were not disappointed, as both my wife and I agreed that they were the best wings we've ever head. Crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside, and the sauce is to die for. On to the entrees we ordered the crispy salmon entree, and the linguini & clams. Both of our dinners were cooked perfectly, and it is quite apparent that a very skilled chef had prepared these dinners, absolutely delicious! The service was excellent, our server Colleen was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The ambience is pleasant, definitely casual / laid back, you do not need to "dress up" to go here, but if you are dressed nicely you will not feel out of place. Tasty tasty tasty. I came in today shortly after they opened for a solo lunch, not another soul in sight. I ordered an ice cold beer, tons of great options btw. For lunch I had the carnitas torta. This braised pork was so juicy and tender, melt in your mouth goodness. The black bean puree and garlic aioli were perfect, savory! I'm not into hand cut fries (weirdo, I know) but these ones were perfect, salty and crispy. The music was on point, the David Bowie station I was told. Couldn't help but belting a tune or two. Cook & Dagger was one restaurant on my list of places to eat while on our mini vacation (we were staying in Chepachet). We arrived Thursday at 5pm just as they opened so we had the whole place to ourselves! Our waitress was cool. She helped us choose our meals when we couldn't decide. We went with the Fried Brussel Sprouts app $8, I chose the home made gnocchi $23 and my husband had the carnitas torta sandwich $16. They get their pork and beef from a local farm and we were excited to try it. Amazing. It was so good, everything was fresh, tasty and delicious. I have eaten at Cook and Dagger numerous times over the past couple of years. I tried out the restaurant thanks to a "RI Food Fights" challenge and have been frequenting ever since. Their menu changes seasonally, but they do have some staples that have a permanent home on the menu. For starters, the croquettes and brussel sprouts are musts! Not that the others aren't delicious, but these are standouts. The wings are cooked so tenderly, they are fall off the bone. They come as plain, buffalo, or flavor of the week. Their entrees seem pricey at first glance, but reading that some of the meat is locally sourced helps justify it. Then, when you get the dish, you realize you aren't leaving hungry by any means, and any other qualms you have about the price go out the window. I've gotten different salads, different sandwiches, and entrees and have always been pleased. Their burger is delicious. It's huge and can be customized with different toppings. It will be a costly burger ($17 base with lettuce and tomato), but well worth it. The fried chicken sandwich is notable as well. I have tried the fish tacos and was very happy with them. They have a full bar, wine of the week ($7 glasses), and a cocktail menu that has some permanent residents as well as seasonal ones. I've only gotten dessert on one occasion and it was spectacular (I'm usually too full for this). The only thing that I wish would change is that the corn bread and biscuits go back to complimentary rather than now being on the menu (but realize that costs may be too high). They are so good! This is probably my favorite restaurant in Rhode Island. With the nice staff, the creative and changing menu, and great drinks, it always serves up a good time. If it was located in Providence, it would probably be a reservation only place. Do yourself a favor and go check it out! read more

New Local Haunt First things first, whoever the chef is at this place, he or she can definitely cook. The food is top quality and executed very well. I just visited the place a couple of nights ago and ordered a simple Caesar salad. This wasn't just a Caesar salad, it was something special. Very creative with grilled romaine lettuce, charred toast points, amazing dressing, and even a grilled lemon. Absolutely delicious. The place is quite comfortable and the service is very attentive. They have good a good beer selection and the rest of the menu is comfort food with a very high scale twist. When you go to to this place you can get a meal for around 20 bucks and feel like you got served a meal from a fine dining restaurant. Excellent find! Started with the poutine then entree was scallop risotto and topped it off with a mixed berry dessert. I'm so stuffed it's uncomfortable but couldn't stop eating. The apple crisp cheesecake was heavenly and the pumpkin crepe brûlée was fantastic. Husband had the chicken dumplings and he raves about them and my son had the duck udon noodles, said it was one of the best dinners he has had in a long time. Look forward to going back. The reason Ive rated this with three stars, is because of the choice selections. When you look at the menu, you're initial reaction is one of excitement. Excitement for the unique options and fresh ingredients! As I read further, majority of the options contained spice. I do not like spicy foods, I thought maybe a substitution was possible, but majority of the spicy ingredients were the main part of the dish. I was told the pasta bolognese sauce was the least spiciest - it was not! My mouth was on fire! I didn't enjoy it. Visited one Saturday late afternoon for some apps and a drink. It wasn't too busy inside as it was before dinner time, and we sat at the bar. The apps were beyond delicious. My boyfriend and I shared the chicken wings and the spinach artichoke dip with crab. The bartender actually recommend the dip because it was a new addition to the menu and she wasn't wrong. It was creamy and gooey but also not overly heavy. The wings were tender and had just enough sauce. I had a cocktail with vodka and cucumber - we spent the morning outside in the heat golfing and this was super light and refreshing afterward. They had a lot of drinks to choose from as well as beers. I'd love to go back to try the entrees. It's casual and laid back inside, definitely recommend stopping in any time of day. read more

Solid 4. Food very fresh. Server let us know they don't even have a freezer. Came for brunch. Croquettes, pork belly quesadilla, breakfast in a jar, Brussels, and home fries. Breakfast in a jar was much smaller than the ones we saw go out to the table next to us- probably because it was the last one. (Overheard the waitstaff) they probably just shouldn't have tried to stretch one last jar.....When so many are going out they need to be consistent and didn't feel it was worth the price at the size it came out. Was going to say something but didn't want to be "those people". Also got the last order of croquettes. Service was great. No decor but I have read in previous reviews that they are focusing on the food and I find that admirable. Weird smell when you walk in, couldn't pin point what it was (musty?). 2 stars feels a bit harsh but 3 feels too forgiving so let's call it 2.5 stars. A friend of ours raves about this place, goes once a week, so a large group of us (8) met up there on a Friday night. It was surprisingly not too busy and we were seated right away. The staff is neither overly nice nor rude but the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. Drinks: they were very slow to come out, certainly not easy with a large group I know, but some of us waited 15 minutes to get them. My fiancé ordered a gin drink that wasn't very good, the server happily replaced it with a glass of wine, however they only poured about half the amount of other glasses on the table. We had to ask for a larger pour. The beer selection was good. Food: as a large group we ordered just about everything on the menu, and we were somewhat disappointed. The appetizers were solid, a few hits (Brussels sprouts were quite tasty) and a few misses. As a group we were split over the main courses, some were good others were not. Mine and the people who were disappointed felt they were heavily over salted to the point where the dishes were unpalatable. Takeaway: I Didn't find the quality of cuisine nor the experience to be memorable but the check was. I just don't think the price matches up to the experience. This was my second time dining there and I don't think I'll be back for a third time. read more

Hey, I'll admit when I'm wrong. When we initially visited this restaurant several years ago we were really disappointed with the food. Since moving relatively close to the restaurant we thought we'd give it another chance and we are so glad we did. We've ordered several things (variety of wings, pork ribs, crispy brussels, etc) and they've all be excellent. Great all around especially how we always order our food via take out and it's still delicious if we need to reheat. The food is a little pricey but worth it. read more

Always fresh ingredients, home made recipes, interesting concepts and twists on food. The servers, bartenders, and the chefs are all proud of their work, as they should be. I went here in July 2017 with my husband and our friends, a family of 4 with 2 young girls under 10. There really was something for everyone. The other couple enjoyed some cocktails that looked amazing (and we were informed were very tasty), I had a lovely cup of drip coffee (no lattes and the like here) and the kids were kept entertained drawing on the tables - more precisely on the sheets of brown paper and pot of crayons, scribbling and drawing robots is encouraged (by me and my husband). The server came over and was patient with us all. The kids who were shy about ordering, the adults who had lots of questions and me who always wants to be sure I'm ordering the right amount, not too much or too little. I had breakfast in a jar. It was the addition of truffles that did it for me. It was actually much larger than I'd been led to believe, either that or I've eyes bigger than my stomach (could be that). Anyway, it made for a delightful brunch and even more delightful leftovers for the next 2 days! Yes, really! The guy from the other couple we diner with, ate his without any problem but I definitely am full up on much less than him, a beefy ex-firefighter! Anyway, we over-ordered on everything which meant we all had so much to choose from and plenty of dishes for the table, like the Brussel sprouts. Who knew that brussel sprouts would ever become fashionable? We live on the other side of the country in Oakland CA, and one of our local places does a very similar brussels-fried-to-within-an-inch-of-their-lives-then-fried-some-more then add bacon & maple syrup kind of a dish, very similar to this. This is a new place, the sign outside proudly boasts 'established 2015'. I hope that the not-so-great location doesn't spell disaster. While inside I kept thinking how popular this would be in SF, but here, it was almost empty at 11.30 on a Sunday morning in July - prime time for the brunch hordes. C'mon Rhode Island hipsters! Great restaurant with a friendly staff especially Joe, an intresting menu and very good food. We stopped in a recent trip based on reviews and we were glad we did. First up was the cauliflower gratin which was our first and hopefully not our last.For our mains we shared the crispy skin salmon and the chicken and dumplings. I have been driving by the Cook & Dagger for a few years on my way to a meeting in Connecticut and each time I think to my self...I have to try that place. Well last Thursday my Director was in town from Fairfield and has called a bunch of us (without telling the others she asked anyone else) asking to meet her there for dinner. Oh, I'm so happy she did! It was fantastic. The drinks were fantastic..I had a watermelon Sangria and OMG I can't wait to go back to try something else. My salad was perfect. The Heirloom tomatoes salad was loaded with a rainbow of garden fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, arugula all gently placed on several..umm... I think toasted crostini...not sure but whatever it was it was delicious. The dressing was a simple olive oil and tasty vinegar...not overpowering the delicious blend of flavors of the dish. Several others had different chicken wings..the plain, which were golden and crunchy on the outside yet juicy and moist inside. The Thai which were covered with a spicy, yet not "burn your mouth hot" sticky sauce and peanuts oh so artfully sprinkled over the top...and your basic 3-4 alarm buffalo wings which definitely lived up to their name and were loved by our more adventurous diners! One person ordered a Ceasar Salad with chicken and parts of the salad were ever so slightly put under the broiler and came to the table looking absolutely delicious and beautiful! All of the food was well presented and delicious. The portions were plentiful and we were all pleasantly surprised and pleased since 4 of the ladies came in from Boston it will be more difficult for them to return often..but the two of us from RI will definitely be making the trip to eat here regularly.
