First up was the cauliflower gratin which was our first and hopefully not our last.For our mains we shared the crispy skin salmon and the chicken and dumplings. I have been driving by the Cook & Dagger for a few years on my way to a meeting in Connecticut and each time I think to my self...I have to try that place. Well last Thursday my Director was in town from Fairfield and has called a bunch of us (without telling the others she asked anyone else) asking to meet her there for dinner. Oh, I'm so happy she did! It was fantastic. The drinks were fantastic..I had a watermelon Sangria and OMG I can't wait to go back to try something else. My salad was perfect. The Heirloom tomatoes salad was loaded with a rainbow of garden fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, arugula all gently placed on several..umm... I think toasted crostini...not sure but whatever it was it was delicious. The dressing was a simple olive oil and tasty vinegar...not overpowering the delicious blend of flavors of the dish. Several others had different chicken wings..the plain, which were golden and crunchy on the outside yet juicy and moist inside. The Thai which were covered with a spicy, yet not "burn your mouth hot" sticky sauce and peanuts oh so artfully sprinkled over the top...and your basic 3-4 alarm buffalo wings which definitely lived up to their name and were loved by our more adventurous diners! One person ordered a Ceasar Salad with chicken and parts of the salad were ever so slightly put under the broiler and came to the table looking absolutely delicious and beautiful! All of the food was well presented and delicious. The portions were plentiful and we were all pleasantly surprised and pleased since 4 of the ladies came in from Boston it will be more difficult for them to return often..but the two of us from RI will definitely be making the trip to eat here regularly. I'll start off with this... the hummus will change your opinion of hummus forever. It's homemade and absolutely amazing. For that reason alone, I give this place four stars. To add to it, every entree I've had has been fantastic. The flavors are different and they put cool twists on basic menu items. The drinks are great and will sneak up on you fast!! If you're looking for a laid back night, the bar is a great place to sit for dinner - and the bartender is very friendly and loves to have a full bar. The restaurant itself is spacious and such a hidden gem in the area. This was our first time at this restaurant, met some friends here. Started with some drinks which were fabulous, creative and delicious mixed drink menu. My wife ordered a salad which she shared with me, while it was good the lettuce and carrots were quite large so it make it difficult to eat. The entrees were very good, tasty, cooked just right, great presentation and sized right. Finished off with dessert, very limited menu but very good. Will definitely be back! read more

I was so surprised to see I had not written of my love for the cook and dagger before! The drinks are great-Try the bully's buck. My new fave My husband is more of the bread lover than I am. But their cornbread and biscuits are wonderful. The pepper in the corn bread with the sweet butter is just amazing For apps I love the crispy fingerlings, pork belly quesadilla and the wings are amazing. Try the special of the day. No matter what it is. I would place money on it always being awesome. but my favorite is the grilled Caesar salad. Sounded a bit odd to me. But I prefer it over a regular cold one now. For dinner my husband loves the fish tacos and pulled pork sandwich. I rotate between the chicken n dumping & bolognese gnocchi. Last night I had the gnocchi special it was magical. Let me start out by saying I'm not a reviewer. I'm a reader of reviews, but never a writer. I didn't even have a Yelp account but I have made one specifically to write this review. I've now been to Cook & Dagger multiple times and have never had a bad experience. The food is outstanding. The unique combination of flavors make everything better than the usual. The prices are great. They've got aiolis up the wazoo. Chipotle? Yup. Bacon? You bet. Maple? Yes, maple aioli. Sign me all the up. I highly recommend the the pork belly quesadilla. It's worth throwing my pretend diet out the window every time. The location is a out of the way for me but I ignore that because the food is so good. Plus, there's tons of parking (look around back) so that's never something to worry about. Bottom line - get your butt over there. read more

The food at this place is so flavorful and different. Love the all the different sauces the use with each dish. I often will order a combination of appetizers as our meal. The meat falls off the bone on the chicken wings and the crispy pork ribs. The brussel sprouts with goat cheese and pickled onions are to die for. Wow, delicious food and drink. Started with a sangria and a grapefruit Gatsby, with some delish hot cornbread/biscuit brought to the table. Great start to an amazing meal. We had the wings d' jour with a pepper maple glaze and croquettes for apps , shrimp po' boy and the fried chicken sandwich. Server Kristen was very attentive and made some of the best drinks I've had in a while. The wings ...we couldn't stop eating them. Croquettes were perfect, not greasy or overdone Both dishes arrived hot, great flavor combinations. Sandwiches were huge portions and done perfect! We have had the pleasure of dinning at cook and dagger several times now and not once were we ever disappointed! The Brussel sprout dish alone is something I crave and often mention to my husband when we pass. My 14 year old son demolished his fish tacos last time (anyone with kids can relate to a feat like that) and has asked to go back to get more. Great atmosphere, great service, phenomenal food. It was our first experience at Cook & Dagger, and regrettably our last. First, the food was good, and service was even better. What was disappointing was an obnoxious up-charge for ordering a whiskey neat. Yes, an extra $1 charge for no ice. A quick Google search taught us about this long-lamented practice that some restaurants/bars try to use, and an even quicker Facebook poll of my fellow Smithfield residents confirmed that this is ridiculous. My visit today was my second at Cook & Dagger. Both visits were for Sunday Brunch. I have mixed emotions about this place. Let's start with the decor: its lacking. The bar is the best part of the entire restaurant. The beautiful wood wall behind the bar sets the tone for a comfortable and industrial look, but thats not carried throughout the entire restaurant. It needs items to give it some kind of more definable style. Next is the food. There's a ton of potential here. Last week I ordered the special eggs benedict, and it came to me missing the one thing I wanted the most, cornbread. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it until I got home. It was tasty but was missing another component; the cornbread would have been perfect! Today I ordered the lamb burger. The fries were good but over salted, I was never asked how I wanted it cooked so I'm assuming there isn't a choice. I think the bread it comes on is a bit too large and thick for the patty. I ordered the croquettes both times and they were definitely under seasoned this time around. Lastly is the service. Right now, this is my biggest complaint. We had the same waitress both times; shes very friendly and I like her, but the service itself is incredibly slow. Both days my party and I waited a long time for extra drinks (and our glasses had been empty on the table for a long time). Perhaps they could pay a little more attention to all of their tables. Yum Yum Yum!!!! This place could easily best any restaurant in Providence. I am not a drinker but my friends loved the bar and the bartender. Spring sangria was delish according to my friend and my other friend had Tequila Mockingbird...the name makes me love this restaurant but the drink was amazing. They start you off with cornbread and biscuits. The cornbread had some hints of black pepper to give it some spice. The maple butter was a good balance with the cornbread. We started with the calamari. It was so tender and spicy! Then the street corn came slathered with cheese that reminded me of Elote! I had the shrimp po boy which was good. Aioli was nice and spicy and the shrimp were huge. A little too much bread but I just tore it off. My friend had the lamb burger which was delicious and came on the middle eastern style bread that is homemade in house and so tender...my other friend has had the ricotta gnocchi bolognese and she said it was quite tender. We did save some room for dessert. Key lime pie! It's not bright green so you know it's legit. The pecan crumb cake was off the hook tender on the inside with a crispy crust and some ice cream to top it off. Definitely a repeat hitter. If you weren't driving here specifically you would most likely never see this place, it's in a strip mall on a very busy street. 6 of us went for family dinner. We got the buttermilk biscuits and Charred Bok Choy for apps and they were absolutely delicious. The Wedge salad is the best I have ever had, it's enough to be a meal in itself. Sadly the Lamb burger was overcooked and dry. The Chicken, fish taco's, scallops and hangar steak were all cooked properly and were very good. The desserts were shared by all and they were delicious, key lime pie, carrot cake. This place has something special going on. The atmosphere is cozy, the drinks are solid, the eclectic bistro style menu, while limited, has nothing but delicious goodies from which to choose. Anything we've ever tried is shareable and delicious. Waitstaff always friendly and outgoing - ready to help pick something you're curious about but aren't sure. Loved the poutine & pizza. The burger on the other hand was completely soaked in grease. To the point where the bottom portion of the bun had fallen apart after the first bite. My fiancé, not being one to complain at restaurants, voiced to our waitress that unfortunately the burger he ordered was inedible. She said was sorry and would let the chef know about the issue. My fiancé then made sure to assure her we fully intended on paying our bill even though one of the meals wasn't able to be eaten. After about 20 minutes of waiting for our check, the chef himself, Chris, came out to make matters worse. He then proceeded to talk at us, not to us, telling us both that there was no way the burger was greasy since it was cooked on a flat top. I myself have worked in food service for 3 years, I cook on a flat top & know for a fact it is very easy to over grease a burger this way. Instead of apologizing for the mistake, Chris argued with us in the dining room in front of all of the other customers who were trying to enjoy their dinner. He didn't offer any kind of refund, he only defended his cooking. Working in food service, I know that the chef should almost never leave the cook line to enter the dining room and address a customer. He was ridiculously rude to both of us, which ended with him grabbing the receipt and crumpling it up even though both of us had said we wanted to fully pay for the meal. Overall, I am still in disbelief that this happened. As an owner of a restaurant, Chris clearly does not care about the businesses reputation. He only cares about upholding his own ego as a chef. In a perfect world, we would have politely complained (as we did) and received a bill at the end of our meal which did NOT include the burger, and instead included a polite apology from the chef or management. Which is how situations like these are handled in professional settings. It has been made 100% clear that this restaurant is not somewhere we will be returning. Nor is it somewhere anyone should be eating based off of the fact that they will disrespect their customers within the drop of a hat to defend their unsatisfactory cooking skills. Stray away from this place if you want to get what you pay for. High prices, terrible management. Still can not believe this happened. *update* I did not edit my review until now, but we surely were not the ones who started the "disruption" in your dining room. Chris did not need to leave the kitchen to argue with a dissatisfied customer. He chose to do so in front of all of the friends and family you speak of. We offered multiple times to fully pay for the bill as well. I also feel the need to point out that the other owner, Taylor, made it her business to hunt down my personal/private Facebook page to comment on a status I made. I'll clarify for you, yes I did say "f*** you all" as I left once I noticed the leftovers i DID enjoy had been thrown away within seconds of me walking out the door. I did not scream it in the middle of your dining room. Are you okay? Both of you? I think you should seek anger management therapy to help with your issues. I live about a mile from this restaurant and had never had their food until this week. My daughter wanted take out and I agreed to pick it up while I was out running an errand . She got the Fried Chicken sandwich and I ordered as a side dish the Croquettes for myself . I was so impressed by this local restaurant. The food was delicious , the chicken was perfectly cooked and tender and the swiss cheese , bacon and mustard blended to make a mouth watering treat. ( yes I "stole" a piece of my daughter's sandwich. ) The Croquettes were equally impressive perfectly cooked to a melted center and nice crust on the outside with a delicious dipping sauce . My wife and I went in a last weekend for my first time , he second but after a while because she had a bad experience the first time . We walked in and were sat right away but then waited about 15 minutes for the waiter to come take our drink orders, it wasn't super busy either. we waited about another 10 minutes to actually get the drinks and before we could put our app in he just turned and walked away from us. We got the crochets which were actually really good but again once he put the food down he just walked away and wouldn't come back for some time. when we finally put the food in we got the fried chicken sandwich and the short rib grilled cheese. We waited over an hour to get our main course from when we placed the order. I was just about ready to pay the bill and leave before we even got the food. No check ins, no water refills , no "sorry it's taking so long" he just disappeared, and I would try to make eye contact with him to bring him over but he stayed clear. After bringing the food over on his first check in he ask the both of us "was it worth the wait?" I was shocked. I didnt even bother to look up from my plate because of the disbelief I was in from him saying that. The sandwiches were good at the end of the night but they don't make up from the terrible service that we got. he stated that they prioritized the take out orders over in house. There was also a couple that came in after us got drinks apps and a dinner all before we got our main course. My wife said it reminded her of the first time that she was in there and that why she hadn't been back and now I can agree to never go back there. read more

The food is fantastic . But the Monday night bartender is horrific. That woman will only hurt your business. I won't be back because of her. I typically wouldn't mind paying $15.50 for a dirty Bombay martini except that I can go to Guiseppes, Sienna, Greenville inn or Mai Tai for a much bigger one, at a fraction of the price & we're greeted with such warmer service. It took me a while to check this place out, mostly because in the beginning they didn't have much on the menu that I could eat (pescatarian here). That has changed, so we decided to give it a shot. My boyfriend got the lamb burger and I ordered the fish tacos. They came with a side of guac and plantain chips. It was really good. The fish was nicely fried and not greasy at all. I didn't even come close to finishing it because it was such a huge portion. Definitely get your money's worth here. The service was friendly and they have a good selection of beer on tap. Cook & Dagger does a great job delivering quality food at a reasonable price, and makes you feel like you found the X on a pirate treasure map! Seriously, from the outside this place looks like your typical strip mall "I wanna be an eatery some-day" kind of place, but immediately turns this around when you walk in the door. If you judge this book by it's cover, you might miss one of the best meals the area has to offer! The croquettes were a phenomenal appetizer that is well suited to share between 2 people, but may be crowded with 3 (unless one person is a pig meat and cheese hating heathen). And the sandwiches/burgers filled everyone at the table up. The décor of this place is pretty cool too, and the staff is friendly and prompt. Unfortunately the chairs definitely operate visual form over function, especially if you're got a big ole' I'm married and don't work out anymore man booty like I do. The only potential short coming to this place is for large groups or groups with picky children you may have a little bit of trouble. The menu has some amazing offerings, but it isn't overly long, so it's best to make sure something on it fits the groups pallet before going, and the restaurant isn't huge, so it may be hard to fit large groups (I would at least call ahead). I thought everything here was well prepared, was unique, but not too exotic for your average fan of traditional food and overall a great experience. I think this place really fits well into the genre of "new American", so if you find yourself eating at places that fit in that genre definitely give this place a try! read more
