I recently notice this long line near my bank. It was around lunch and I decided to pick up a few options for my students. I ordered mostly burgers with an assortment of cool sides like nuggets, okra & corndogs. Each meal came with a drink at a whopping $4.99. The burgers beat out smashburger, Burger Bar in Vegas, In-N-Out, Burger King, Sonic, McDonald's and close to Five Guys. The difference, Five Guys is expensive! For burger lovers they know it's clearly worth dropping the extra money but not if you have a Cook Out in your area. BTW- They have 41 floats and milkshakes flavors. Insane value and price for delicious food. 1/4 burger with super fresh toppings, hushpuppies fried to savory crispiness, and their famous vast menu of milkshakes. Having been raised in NC, it's not really a surprise why this chain is so beloved. Now that I live in Philly, whenever I make the drive down I stop by. I go here at like 2am and every time I get cold corn dogs burn hamburger meat to where it's so dry I sling it out the window sometimes I get a feeling I'm disliked cause my skin is white my buddy Jamal even told me he always gets hot food around the same times. He says the people who work there treat him good but when my country a** goes there being to nice hoping for good hot food in get a smack in the face with cold and burnt food I spent over $16 on 2 trays and 2 drinks in I never have time to go back cause I'm always on my way to work when stopping here. Since I've gotten here I've been to Cook Out twice. Both times the food was amazing. Customer service a bit of a hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get some really friendly personalities and others seem to be counting down the minutes of their shift BUT it doesn't really bother me none, because you order at the counter and sit down and enjoy your delicious food!! FOOD: CAJUN CHICKEN: I love cajun spice so this one stood out to me. I thought it was going to be by itself or maybe with rice(that's just my thing though, I can eat everything with rice). Lemme just tell you; it's a sandwich and a REALLY good one at that. The ration to bun is perfect and the amount of spice was PERFECT. I would definitely get this again! BIG DBL BURGER: Not really that big. I usually can't eat a whole burger, lame I know, but this one I ate in one sitting. You get a choice of toppings and condiments. I got ketchup, mayo, lettuce, and cheese. Regardless of the size, the flavor was definitely there. You can taste the chargrill which I can't get over. Definitely a good try. WHITE CHEDDAR BITES: They're like mini cheese sticks hence the name bites. Lol. They should definitely make some type of homemade sauce for these. The outside definitely gets overpowered by the cheese, but I don't mind that. When you get them as a side in a tray combo you get roughly about 6 or 7 pieces and they are tiny so beware. Next time I'll just get a separate side. SLAW: I also got their slaw and it's really good. It has great flavor, not too subtle and not too strong. I haven't tried any of the shakes yet, but they have a long list for those. So if you're looking for a shake to try, go to Cook Out! They might have your new favorite flavor. The prices here are ridiculously cheap. The second time around my husband and I got a tray combo for myself and a burger for him and it totaled to $13! Overall, would recommend and we are definitely going to be back time and time again. =) Oh and also they have bible verses on their products. The food is good. I'm leaving a 3 star rating to draw attention to the issue I have with their packaging. In a time when a growing number of people are concerned about their impact to the environment, this business is unapologetically wasteful. Instead of having ketchup in a pump, etc., customers have to rip open 50 packets. All their food is served in pizza polystyrene containers. The amount of foam in the trash is ridiculous. Heard of this place from many friends, especially about the shakes. I came here with high standards... Cook Out did not fail. I'm indecisive. This place is heaven for me and my indecisive booty. I love that there are so many choices for sides. The portions are good enough to make you full, but not so full that you can't grab a shake afterwards. Speaking of shakes, I tried the peach cobbler milkshake, omg. Thick and contents were distributed evenly throughout the shake. I had a burger and sides of onions rings + a quesadilla. Everything was good, I had no complains at all! I was so sad that I didn't see that they have corn dogs,because I've been craving corn dogs for the longest time. Also, I have a huge pet peeve. Wanted to try this place as I have heard good things about the brand in general. Came during night time so not sure if they are any better during the day. I order a double burger and it was trash. They gave me one pattie and a half pattie, the only good thing was the milkshake and the chili dog but it kind of leaked through the bag so be careful if you decide to get one it needs to be held a certain way so the coleslaw doesn't leak everywhere. This location is ok. Had a Big Double Burger tray with fires and chicken nuggets and was not very good. The burger patties were small and tasted like they had been cooked earlier that day and were in a warmer, the fries tasted ok and the nuggets were cold and tasted like they were cooked earlier in the day as well. Cook Out is a privately-owned restaurant that started out in NC, but there are locations in TN, SC, GA, VA, WV, and KY. The menu is pretty extensive, offering items such as char-grilled burgers/chicken breast/hot dogs, chopped pork BBQ, spicy chicken breast fillet, chicken strips, sides, floats, and a variety of milkshakes. I had a Cheddar Style combo, which was a char-grilled burger topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, grilled onions, and mayo - this was pretty tasty, as it reminded me of either the Snow White Grill's slider/White Castle's sliders. The combo lets you choose 2 sides, so I opted for the hush puppies (crispy and pretty okay in taste; I just wished there was some type of sauce that goes with, like apple butter?) and a Corn Dog (yes, a corn dog is a side! The corn dog had a nice crisp exterior from being deep-fried, but I wasn't a fan of the wiener); the hubs had the Regular Spicy Style Chicken Breast Fillet - I wasn't a fan of this, as this tasted similar to BK chicken sandwich without the kick; for sides, we opted for French Fries (unseasoned) and Onion Rings (sweeter, as they were made with sweet jumbo onions; these were just okay). I also had a Cheerwine Float with vanilla ice cream - this was forgettable, and I actually preferred to just stick with the Cheerwine cherry soda instead. The hubs tried the Oreo milkshake, and he thought it was pretty good - definitely thick, but it was more slushee-like. After hearing all the hype, we decided to check this place out Memorial Day weekend. The drive thru line was double wrapped around the building. They had people outside directing traffic. The lines for the walk up window and to eat inside were incredibly long. I have to say for an opening with the amount of traffic they had, the business was very well organized and not nearly as chaotic as we expected. We ordered two shakes (Oreo and peanut butter), side of hush puppies, fries, BBQ plate, cheddar style burger, and a regular hot dog. The shakes were amazing!! The Oreo shake had actual Oreos in it and the PB shake actually had PB in it. So sad that now a days you get excited to have actual food in your food, but I digress...The BBQ plate was tasty (pulled pork, coleslaw, fries, & hush puppies) was good but I wasn't a fan of the hot sauce poured on top of the BBQ. Slaw was similar to kfc. The burger was similar to Five Guys, and really good. My 3 year old seemed happy with his hot dog. They were insanely busy because it was their first week being open, but the staff handled it very well and the drive thru moved so quickly! Staff members were taking our orders as we pulled around so our food was ready when we pulled up to the window. We each got a burger - I got onion rings and my husband got French fries. We also both got a bottle of water and it was only $13 + some change. For both of us. Seriously. The onion rings didn't hit the spot for me personally, but the burger was SO good!! & at $13 for 2 people, they're sure to give restaurants like Five Guys a run for their money. The hubby and I waited a couple weeks for the lines to calm down but it was still packed yesterday, with double drive through lines over flowing and people, in line, out the door, BUT, they handled the lines very well!! Super fast and I'm thrilled that there is a nice sized inside dining area! The place is just beautiful, inside and out, and adds some class to this older area! The burgers are very yummy. it was a bit more cooked than I prefer (not sure if they will cook them less if asked, I will check next time). The peanut butter shake was soooo good, that it brought me back to when i was a kid, in the 70's when we made some sort of peanut butter treat that you freeze and eat. the fries were average, but good. This was my first ever Cook Out experience and I'd say that it did meet my expectations for what they're known for. The food was cheap and greasy and they had a never ending shake list. I loved the fact that you could customize the toppings in your burger and that you could customize your milkshake by combining flavors. I didn't like the fact that the patty tasted like burnt charcoal, but I guess that's the appeal for certain people. I also hated the chili with a passion. I don't know why my dumbass thought it'd be a bowl of chili, but it wasn't and it was too salty and tasted burnt too. Onion rings, hushpuppies, and coleslaw weren't bad. Pulled off I-95 looking for something new and different. This place exceeded our expectations. Cute decor, but tables a little sticky when we stopped by for late supper. Food was perfect and super cheap! We got a cheeseburger, grilled chicken sandwich, onion rings, fries, two orders of hush puppies and two large drinks (with free refills) for 11 dollars! I went in for the first time to order a milk shake. They had no ice cream. They had no milk. They could not possibly make a milk shake with no ice cream and no milk. All they have is softserve. Apparently they squirt a little soft serve in a container, put in a little flavor and serve THAT as a so called milk shake. Not surprisingly you need to eat it with a spoon. I did get a hamburger and their chopped pork BBQ sandwich. The sandwiches were OK. I got unsweetened ice tea to drink. I like to get the unsweetened tea so I can sweeten it myself. That way I get it just right, not overly sweet, and I only put sugar, not sweetener in the tea. Who knows what they put in their sweetened tea. Anyway they had no sugar for the unsweetened tea, only sweetener. Since many of the sweeteners are known to be hazardous I didn't want to take a chance. If I'm in Fredericksberg I might stop here again but certainly I know they have no milk shakes. On their web site they state if you ever are dissatisfied with any of their products to let them know. I let them know about the milk shake and the young girl who answered the phone seemed very concerned and said she was sending me some coupons to use at the OTHER Cook Out restaurant in Fredericksberg but I never got anything!!! read more

I'm a picky eater so I hardly eat fast food. I gave cook out a try and was semi pleased. Burger was fine. Much better than frozen mystery meat. Sides were different. I liked having lots of options but didn't feel what I got blew me away. Fries are no where close to five guys. Hush puppies were not bad but wouldn't reorder. The shake menu was amazing! I ordered double chocolate and was told this was "very chocolate-ty". It wasn't. If you advertise a million shakes at least try to make them different. It was vanilla with Hershey's syrup. If you can't nail a chocolate shake I'm not sure what to expect if I order a strawberry cheesecake cream cake shake. Price wise it was cheap. Would prefer one side vs two and make it rock. read more

I really love food like this! I got a hot dog with ketchup, mustard and onion, fries and slaw. My husband got a Burger with everything and onion rings. I went through the drive thru and it was storming heavily. Service was pretty quick, but I checked my bag before pulling away, and sure enough they forgot the slaw. I will say that their burgers are just OK (we shared food).They have an extensive line of milk shakes and they were amazing! We will give them another whirl when we crave junk food. read more
