Don't get me wrong, any place that offers you the chance to get a corn dog as a side item will always have a place in American society! That said, Cook Out is the fast food place that almost was for me. Burgers are tasty and the shakes are some of the best around. But the fries are mediocre at best. I have been their customer for years. At first it was just a quick sandwich and fries. I became a real advocate for their long list of milk shakes. I have hurt McDonalds business I know by turn their customers on to The Cook Out shakes. But something I seldom hear about is their Bar B Que. It is excellent "Eastern NC style". Either a sandwich or a plate with a side of Cole slaw and hush puppies. We compare as we travel around...the Cook Out is as good as you can get in Raleigh. Food is usually pretty good and not expensive--But if you order 2 or more items count on your order being wrong. Speakers at all cook outs are horrible so I have tried to excuse excessive mistakes on the poor quality of speakers. It became a family joke to order and see what and how much of the order is wrong. Usually have cars behind us in line so don't want to hold everybody up while we check the order. Errors are so frequent we only go now if grandkids request a specific milkshake. Then as we wait for their order they laugh over how many things will be wrong. If there is any supervision it is poor and seems to have no interest in employee job performance. read more

This location is really hit or miss. I've never had a problem during the day but if you go at night, good luck. Tonight we wanted something quick and near our house since we worked really late. To our surprise, there's wasn't a long line. We went through the drive-thru and was the only person in the line where you receive your order through the passenger side window. We ordered one Cook-Out tray, informed him of the drink, and then heard nothing for a solid 30 seconds. He then responded, "Is that it?". We ordered two hot dogs and then a spicy chicken fillet sandwich. His response was, "UH WHAT?!?!". From then on, I knew it was going to be a rude encounter. Once we clarified our sandwhich and finished our order, he didn't even inform us of the total. We got to the window, handed him our debit card, and received it back. He then closed the window and waited for our order while leaning his back to up against the window. We waited for the drink and our order for two minutes. He handed us the drink and then the bag of food. He didn't ask if we needed anything else and went to close the window. I said, "May we please have some buffalo sauce?. He then informed us, "We ain't got no buffalo." We just said, "Thanks", and went on our way. I've worked in the Food industry for over a decade. I understand having a rough day or even working 12 hours a day but you should at least be respectful to individuals you don't know and especially if they are customers of your place of business. If you're not a people person, you should probably work in the back of the house. If you can't even excel at that with some pride, and decency for others, maybe you should work somewhere where you have no face-to-face contact with people. read more

Burger and chicken sandwich were good. Fries were really good. I don't get the hype over the shake though. It tasted very artificial to me, like they are using really cheap ice cream. I've had better shakes at White Castle and Burger King. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place but it hit the spot. read more

Stick to the burgers (and fries). Cookout is famous for their milkshakes, but lately the shakes have been disappointing. They used to be creamy and full of mix-ins. The spoon they gave you was a necessity to scoop out the bottom half of whatever you ordered i.e. tons of generous chunks of Reese's Cups. However, now the shakes are icy and bland, and the mix-ins are scarce. Not to mention, my boyfriend has ended up sick the last two times he's had them. I think it may be time to scrub the ice cream dispensers! read more

I normally come to this cookout with no problems. I get the same thing every time. And everytime I ask for two honey mustards and two bbq. Today the guy just didn't know what the heck was doing. They said they had to charge me for the sauce which wasn't the case two days ago. I also gave him $10.68 seeing as my order was $5.68. He proceeded to hand me $1.03 back and this was after I reminded him that I had not yet received my change back. Ripped off. Ordered two trays with two shakes, and two burgers on the side (with only ketchup). I was charged 23$!!! Turns out, they replaced the shake that comes with the tray with water, never put the water in the bag. I am convinced that someone in this cookout is stealing from customers. I've been wanting to try this place since we moved here last summer and really wanted to like it. The name feels nostalgic and the drive thru looks almost always packed. I've heard great things too, so maybe my expectations were just too high. They do have a wide selection of shakes. We tried the oreo and it was Good, like soft serve mixed with cookies and blended well. Too thick to drink and my family used a spoon to eat the whole thing. I can't imagine trying to drive and eat it. As for the rest, the quality of the food is just very poor. Which matches the price. I was impressed by the amount of food we got got a total of 13$ and that should have been the red flag. We got the BBQ plate. The meat was inedible I'm not sure if it was meat? It seemed like it was pulled pork one week old and put in a blender. The color was off and it was just a pile of mush.. the fries were edible. They were hot like they just came off the oil so that was good. The hush puppies were OK.. The cole slaw was soggy and not at all fresh. The burger was nothing special, poor quality and a big chunk of raw onion goes on it when you ask for all the toppings. Our daughter got the hot dog and seemed to enjoy the taste. For $1 it's a good deal, but I would rather pay a few dollars more and have real food. You get what you pay for I guess. We won't go again unless I hear they improve the quality. And not go back. the female hispanic employees were trying to stick their sharp fingernails into the skin of my hand. talk back rude,not would volunteer to give me my money change back after I paid. Questionable. It's hard to see everything that goes on inside here, but what you do is is somewhat shocking. Very young personnel/supervisors/managers... They are always goofing off in the front (ie: pushing each other around on carts, I saw a manager poor a bucket of ice on an employee, in a playful way of course, but extremely unprofessional.) They are very loud and swear a lot. I think they do not realize after they slam the window shut, us customers can still hear them. It's quite amusing at some times but there are issues with the food that are less than funny. For instance, I have had to go back on 3 separate occasions because my order was completely wrong. Mind you I was only introduced to this establishment in January. So roughly 3 months experience I've had with this place maybe once a week.
