We LOVE this place!! Everything about it screams for us to visit when we're anywhere near. The cool cat is a total diner, epic in its decoration, the food is always great. The servers we've had have just been exceptional every single time we've been. For us this place has become a destination, always will have a milkshake there. We went here for dinner on our mini vacation. We started off with Plantation Tea, which was pineapple juice and iced tea. Yummy combo! The food was very good! I had the Hula chicken which had an interesting sauce-their own sweet Hawaiian sauce & a pinapple ring. It wasn't overly sweet at all. My Hubby had the Duke burger, and he even said it was "excellent!" He rarely says anything beyond "it's ok." So this is a big deal! They had actual good food-not touristy, gimmicky stuff. We sat in an outside area with roll up doors that opened right to the outside. The interior style was rock n roll 50s. There's a main restaurant and outside seating-sorta. Its still part of the building and enclosed but they had the sliding glass windows open at nighttime when we went. Nice breeze and TVs a plenty! The server was really nice. We got the clam chowder bowl with shrimp and crab and the combo platter with chicken tenders, fries and onion rings. Everything was delicious!! The clam chowder was warm, creamy and flavourful. Went here today because we used to LOVE the one in Lahaina. It's a cute little diner near downtown. They have traditional diner food. I had the grilled cheese (Graffiti Grill) and added Avocado. (They DELIVERED on the avocado) and it was one of the best grilled cheese I've ever had. My hubby had the Pastrami Melt (aka Pony Boy) and it was OUTSTANDING. Fresh homemade and every bite delivered. One of our friends had the "Duke" with Onion Rings, BBQ Sauce, Bacon, American Cheese...and was juicy and wonderful. Super fresh! He also had the Vanilla Coke which was mouth watering. This is our second weekend get away to Pismo Beach. As we walked around downtown, we discovered Cool Cat Cafe. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman at the front door who happily answered some questions about their popular dishes. We ordered exactly what he suggested which was a burger and chicken tacos. We also had the Bloody Mary's which were made using their secret recipe (not a premade mix). The burger was perfect. Exactly what someone craves when they want all the fixings without too many extras. The fish tacos were excellent. Full of flavor with a delicious sauce. We shared the onion rings and those were exactly what we wanted plus all the dipping sauces I had hoped for. Homemade ranch, aioli and honey bbq sauce. To our surprise and delight, our lovely server brought over a complimentary drink from the bartender. Tito's and ginger ale. Everything tasted great and we left feeling satisfied without feeling like we stuffed ourselves. The atmosphere was lively and our server was so friendly. Came on a busy Sunday at noon. Wait times were about 40 minutes for a group of four. Once we were seated, our server was quick with drink orders. We went with the hula sticks, clam chowder with topping of crab, chili bread bowl, onion rings, and a Ricky Ricardo salad to start off. Quality was about average for a diner experience. The only main worth mentioning was the ribeye with a fish filet of the day added on. Steak had a nice char on it, but the fish was a bit dry to my liking. The chili was flavorful and brought a bit of heat, and the texture was just awesome. Don Ho: My teen ordered this and pretty much inhaled it -- a bacon cheeseburger with a Hawaiian-inspired sauce. It was super savory and sweet. Great Balls of Fire: I was surprised to see that this was a grilled chicken sandwich, I had assumed it would have been fried. It was doused in a sauce that I'm pretty sure was Tapatio mixed with melted butter. Doesn't mean it wasn't good though. Onion Rings: SO GOOD. I'm pretty sure they used sweet onions, and the batter was perfect. Kid's Grilled Cheese: Okay, so, weird thing to weigh my opinion in on, but this grilled cheese sandwich was the bomb. I ordered the fish tacos and sweet potatoes fries all gluten free. The tacos were the best I have eaten and the sweet potatoes fries were delicious! I thought eating out would be more difficult. Came to Pismo for a week vacation and this cafe is near most of the resorts so I thought why not come here and enjoy the good looking food. Was summer, so maybe that's just how it goes. But many were so loud and vulgar. Couldn't believe that none of the staff did anything about the vulgar language when kids were at the very next table. One of the way waitresses' breasts kept nearly popping out every time she leaned over. Was just so not classy. Food was really good. No complaints about the food. Which is nice, but I just like it by itself with maybe crab or shrimp topping. We visited Pismo Beach for the day and happened to arrive at lunch time. After reading reviews we decided to eat at Cool Cat Cafe and it did not disappoint. First of all the server (I didn't get his name) was excellent. He actually seemed to enjoy his job. He was very personable. We both had the Bogy Burger and sweet potato fries. These were some of the best sweet potato fries I've had. And the burger was a thick burger patty with just the right amount of thousand island dressing and other toppings (we asked for no mayo). It's a great location right near the pier. They even have a little Cool Cat Cafe swagger shop with shirts and other apparel. I would recommend this place. read more

This has become a staple during our Pismo visits. It's no longer, "Are we going to that place... Cool Cat's?" but is now "How many times will we go to Cool Cat this time?" First of all, there's the friendly casual vibe of a beach diner. That's cool, right there. The servers are almost always spot-on, cheerful, efficient, and able to resolve any issues diplomatically. The menu is a little daunting because EVERYTHING LOOKS SO DANG GOOD! I love that we can go and each of us can address our tastes without the other person having to compromise. I love the spicy, savory items while my spouse loves the decadence of the desserts. We both leave - every time - feeling decadently pleased. My favorite thing to order is a cup of chili and a baked potato with all the stuff along with it. Oh my. It is a huge stack of tasty food. I also like that I can get tonic water - my favorite drink. Extra points for that. THEN, I discovered the shakes with alcohol. I mean, what's up with that? It is way too easy to drink that concoction and feel like all is right with the world even with a few (thousand) problems plaguing me. But that's a good thing. When I am in Pismo, I am there to recharge, relax, get away from the rat race and that is exactly what Cool Cat does for me. I will always find time to dine at Cool Cat Cafe when I am even driving through Pismo. It is my little slice of epicurean paradise. read more
