This place reminds me of Ruby diner or Johnny rockets. I love coming to smaller restaurants because it seems that you get better service. The food was okay, the fries were the best we had, well seasoned. The tuna could have been less sweet. But the milkshake was very delicious! Instead of vanilla ice cream, we added coffee! So good! We are glad we ended up at this spot for lunch, the food was delicious and the vibe was chill. We ordered a grilled hotdog on sourdough, fresh fish tacos, and the chili cheese dog. Everything was delicious and the fish tacos were really good, which is a grand compliment as I've had many amazing fish tacos. The chili on the chili cheese dog had a bit of a kick and was a knife and fork type of dog, not for those looking to keep their white shirts clean. I am very impressed by the service my family and I received at Cook Cat Cafe today. Our party of 7 came in during lunch. Being from a big tourist city I was prepared to wait awhile to get seated with a larger party, during the lunch rush AND during summer time. Nope... we were seated very quickly. Our server, Sarah, was amazing! She stopped by not long after we sat down to introduce herself and get our drink order. We explained to her that we had two members with gluten allergies. This establishment takes dietary restrictions, especially allergies very seriously. I felt very comfortable and safe having my gluten free child dine here. Me and my girlfriend's family were in Pismo Beach, CA for just one night so we only had one chance to pick a good restaurant for dinner. We decided on "Cool Cat Cafe" and let me say, it did NOT disappoint! Not even close... in fact, it was better than I expected! The prices are right and the food is incredible. When we got there, there was a table for us immediately which was great. The vibes and atmosphere in "Cool Cat Cafe" were really cool and fun. It had decor as if it was a retro diner which is always fun, and just the atmosphere of the restaurant was really fun! The service was great too. Very fast. Their menu is pretty large, but it was very easy to narrow down the choices because when I went in there, I got immediate burger vibes. So therefore I got a burger. The burger I got was called the "Don Ho". It was 100% one of the best burgers I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection, it was juicy, tender, and overall delicious! It had pineapple on it, along with bacon and their "homemade sweet Hawaiian sauce". I didn't need to add ketchup to the burger because it was just so juicy. One thing to keep in mind tho is that the burgers do NOT include fries. So you have to pay for them. The fries cost an extra $3. You get a healthy amount of them, and to be honest, the burger was really filling. So if you're going with multiple people, I'd say the fries could be shared among two people. We also got an order of onion rings, which they were pretty good. Not anywhere near the best onion rings I've ever had, but they were a solid 7/10. The fries were good tho! I'd prefer them over the onion rings. Anyway, they also have a range of milkshakes too! They have 5 "special ones" and 5 alcoholic "special ones" too! Or you can make your own. Personally, I got the "Cookie Monster" and that was phenomenal. Truly an excellent milkshake. There are plenty of ice cream places around, but honestly, if you're looking for a classic milkshake, go here. It won't disappoint. Overall, this restaurant definitely deserves 5-stars. You might look at it and think it's a tourist trap, but I assure you it's not. The prices are great and the food is really really delicious. It won't disappoint! read more

Cute diner! Ran over here to order take out while we were at harry's across the street. Just based on looking at it, the diner vibe is perfect and everyone i spoke to was very nice. We would like to come back next year and try that sit down portion but the service we received was already great! We ordered two appetizers to hold us over: chili cheese fries and mozzarella sticks. I'm gonna be honest this place is a hidden gem bc we devoured all of the food. The chili has just has the best hint of spice and the mozzarella sticks were warm,crunchy and delicious. Side sauces were also at the same level and overall we loved it all! The area is overall pretty good. In the ambler town area of pismo beach but cute nonetheless. Every time we came over it seemed like it's a constant for people to stop during this time of year. Parking wise, there's mostly street parking closer to the shop, but there seems to be enough (i think) for a day time spot. We will definitely back next year when we visit and wanna try more diner/home style food!!! read more

First timers to Pismo Beach today. We realized that sitting down for a meal was gonna be hard to come by. We came across the Cool Cat Cafe while walking and were almost apprehensive since they had tables open. We decided to give it a try and i'm glad we did. The menu had a lot to offer. My only negative was that the sides were separate with the entree. I had a BBQ burger + fries and my husband had chicken sandwhich + fries, 2 sodas + tip was around $50. I feel like that's not bad for the area plus, the portions were big. We both came in hungry and left very full. Vibes were very retro and I was loving it. Cool Cat Café is the best! I love the retro 1950s diner vibe--it's fun, nostalgic, and even the menu names fit the theme perfectly. My go-to is the Elvis Melt. I don't know what magic they put in their tuna, but it's incredibly tasty, and the sourdough bread is always perfectly grilled. They also serve alcoholic milkshakes, which are just as good as they sound. The staff is friendly, the prices are fair for the area, and I've always had great service. Bonus: plenty of parking, which is always appreciated. My only gripe is that they're closed on Sundays and don't offer any delivery options. Let me say for a chicken sandwich, it was DELICIOUS! The chicken was tender and the sandwich itself was super flavorful. Wish I had taken a pic but after the first bite, it was devoured. I had their fresh catch entree which was Ono. Pretty rich in vitamins and an overall healthy fish to eat, they sauteed it in olive oil. I didn't care too much for the seasoning on my fish I'd probably rather have it plain or with just salt but no complaints. The baked potato was alright and I didn't care too much for the vegetables besides the mushrooms. It came with a small clam chowder which was good. I wasn't too impressed paying $32 for this meal but I can't knock it. Fun restaurant to eat inside. We were in pismo on a family trip last month and came to cool cats. It's my kid's favorite place to go with their grandpa, so of course stopping by for a bite was a must. The inside is themed 50's-60's decor. The service was good , really couldn't complain there. The only reason this place dropped to a 3 for me personally, was the prices . For the quality and quantity it just left me feeling a little robbed. Maybe it was what I had but just felt for a burger shop fries should be included. Plus for me I really don't like that on the website the prices are all wrong, I mean that is the easiest to change. We came here a year ago during Covid and they had outdoor seating. This year we got to sit inside and enjoy a different ambience. It was quite loud inside, but this place has a beach diner kind of vibe so it fits. The big booths fit our group of 7 easily and we're very clean. They had all the good sports games on so we enjoyed watching the NHL finals. The servers were all very unique and friendly. The food came out promptly and perfectly warm and delicious. I got a side salad and sweet potato fry basket. The side salad was a great portion and their thousand island delicious was great. The sweet potato fries were AWESOME. Perfectly salted and crispy and flavorful. I ate half the basket no problem, and the rest of the group enjoyed the garlic aioli with their fries. My hubby got the Big Bopper burger which he highly rated and the fries were delish as well. A bit annoying you have to order fries for extra with the burger. One of our group members ordered a funky monkey shake but the kitchen forgot :/ oh well. We all had plenty of food. We had a great time and always enjoy coming here when we come to Pismo. read more
