I have been very happy with this establishment in the past. Wednesday we stopped in for a shrimp burger, and gator bites. I felt that the shrimp burger was less than flavorful, and more importantly, the gator bites were probably 50% deep fried onion bits. It looks like they may be cutting back on quantity and quality of ingredients. I hope this is not the case. If it is, we won't be going back. read more

We found this little gem when we ended up staying in Mountain Home at the last minute. Oh man what a find!!! The food is authentic and amazing, the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting and the staff was very welcoming! Annette met us at the door and served us. After asking about the history of the restaurant, we learned Annette and her husband are the owners and are from southern Louisiana and learned about her family's history. We had the Boudin Balls (the best we have ever had, btw!), mufaletta, red beans and rice, and seafood gumbo. All were delicious and very authentic! The absolute only negative about this place is that it is too far away from our hometown! read more

The best Grits I have had in my life! Here on vacation from CT and love everything served . When you come get the extra kick from the Cajun Fairy Dust ! Ate here for lunch and everything was amazing. Had the Crawfish etouffee and it was creamy, savory, spicy and delicious. Same goes for the gumbo my mom had. The gumbo was nice and dark, a sign that it came from a good roux. Both dishes had the typical cajon flavors; onions, onions, celery, green pepper, cajon spice, and seafood notes. The etouffee portion wasn't very big, but it left just enough room for some bread pudding for dessert. That bread pudding though. It was amazing. Served steamy hot, it was a great soggy lump of sweet bread that had the perfect texture. Not crumbly or chewy, but somewhere perfectly in between. It was covered in a sweet sauce that tasted like a good glaze on a delicious cinnamon roll. The service was also excellent. read more

So excited to finally get a chance to eat here. The place is very nice and homey. My husband and I were greeted at the door by Annette (one of the owners). She took us the the second dining area which is very comfortable and homey. We were their around 1 pm for lunch. The menu has a nice selection with good prices. We ordered alligator bites for our appetizer. It was very good, crisp it also had breaded onions with it. The remoulade have the alligator a little kick which we both enjoyed. My husband ordered Crayfish Étouffée and it was a very nice size serving for lunch. The crayfish were tender and the Etouffee was creamy with a bit of spice. My husband said it was really good and would get it again. I ordered BBQ shrimp. This dish come with a small side salad of fresh greens, onion & tomato. The dressing was raspberry vinaigrette (so, so good) I wanted more. The BBQ shrimp were very tender and plentiful, the seasoning had just the right amount of garlic and spices the shrimp is served on the best rice I've had in years. The service was very good and attentive. Annette sat by us and we had a nice visit. Bob and I are glad that they took a chance on opening there restaurant here in Mountain Home, Ar If you would like a good meal give Cooyons a try. Family owned and everything is made in house. The food was lacking flavor and was watered down. I ordered one of the specials of the day: For the $17 it was at best a very expensive appetizer. It was labeled as seafood, but only had a small amount of very small shrimp. I was offered extra bread but at an additional cost. I did not see the need to complain as it is the employees are only doing what the owner trains them to do. There should be a wider selection on the menu as the ingredients needed for these dishes can be used for so many other choices! I tipped over 20% because they did what is expected of them by the owner. No need to penalize them for the lack of imagination on the menu. I will not be returning and would never suggest this as an authentic cajon restaurant! read more

Being a Louisiana native, I was wondering about authenticity this far north. Not to worry as it's the food of my home. If your looking for real Louisiana food, then Cooyons is the place. Amazing! We never expected to find this quality of food and service in Mountain Home, AR. Another couple, my wife and I were only in town because we had to drive down to the nearest big box store to the river resort we were at in southern Missouri. Once we got in town we saw the usual smaller town places like Colton's, Chili's an Applebees but those were packed on a Friday night and they are predictable. We checked Yelp for the top restaurants and ran across Cooyons. So glad we did. It is a renovated house and it was a little difficult locating your front door but once you are inside it is casual and inviting, kind of like being in a family kitchen. Our server was the owner and you can tell she and her husband love this restaurant and the food. She gave us loving descriptions of each entree we asked about as well as the specials. They have a few local ciders and beers as well as the usual selection. We had the boudin balls, alligator bites and shared a bowl of the red beans and rice. The alligator was tender, lightly breaded and delicious and the boudin balls were flavorful but the red beans and rice stole the show! The flavor was amazing with the perfect amount of seasoning - flavorful spice but not hot. For entrees we had two specials - two orders of the court-bouillon (pronounced COOBY - ON) with catfish and shrimp and one order of the gumbo with shrimp and andouille - and one order of BBQ shrimp. All were absolutely wonderful and full of flavor. Our friend who had just been in New Orleans said they rivaled any meals she ate there. The desserts we tried were a multiple layer chocolate cake and a lemon berry cake with blueberry compote. They were very tasty although I would rather eat another entree instead! We visited this restaurant during the dinner hour on a Friday evening and it was very busy. We were greeted by a nice lady who apologized that there was a wait for a table. Several times she came by and again apologized for our wait. We got to our table and the same lady was our waitress. She was very friendly and answered any questions we had about the food selection . I had the Barbecue Shrimp (yummy) and my husband had the shrimp creole. They both were delicious! To top off our meal with had the wonderful bread pudding! I have to say I wasn't impressed. I found the food to be very bland. Fried food was dripping in grease. You could squeeze the hush puppies and they had soaked up entirely too much grease. Shrimp and grits very little flavor. Crawfish etoufee was bland. Shrimp creole the trinity wasn't cooked enough. Bread pudding was awful. Gumbo had no flavor. They have got to put some seasoning and flavor into their food. And I don't mean make it hot either. Since they and myself are from La I was really excited and looking forward to the food. I felt it was very industrial, more like a school cafeteria meal. I would love to play in the kitchen with that chef!!! However the staff was beyond friendly. We had a large group and being that they are newly opened we expected to wait but we didn't have to. We were very pleased with the service. read more

I am not an expert on cajun food, however I do know good food. This place serves amazing food! I had the shrimp and grits. The grits were cheesy and creamy. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and we're in a delicious tomato based wine sauce. My wife had the catfish and every component of the meal was delicious. We can't wait to come back! read more

What a find! We were just staying in Mountain Home for one night and ended up here because we are originally from Louisiana and I'm always looking for good Cajun food. Cooyon's did not disappoint. It actually far exceeded my expectations. At our table we had boudin balls, shrimp creole, crawfish etouffee, and a muffaletta with corn fritters. The food was delicious and could have come out of the kitchen of a good restaurant in New Orleans. The corn fritters were tender and delicious, and would make a great appetizer. I appreciated that the food was very well seasoned as many times "cajun" restaurants outside of Louisiana fail to season their food appropriately. One of the owners was our waitress and she was incredibly kind and informative. If I end up here again, I will definitely be back. read more

OMGosh!!! 02/15/20...Hubby & I were looking for something other than a burger or BBQ place & happened to find Cooyon's listed in YELP. We both love Cajun food so decided to check it out. BOY! ARE WE GLAD WE DID!! The place looks like it used to be a house, but don't let looks fool you! The parking lot, which circled the bldg was PACKED! (that's always a good sign!) Plenty of seating inside; the staff was extremely friendly & customer oriented; and the food was BEYOND FANTASTIC!!! Hubby had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo & I had the Crawfish Étouffée. BOTH SUPERB!! Generous portions, too! They serve Ceylon tea & 'Stubborn' sodas (no preservatives or HFCS!!) We both ate our fill and the bill was less than $40! We highly recommend this place!! I promise you WILL NOT be disappointed! The owner told us they celebrated their 2nd year in business in January 2020! We wish them continued success in the coming years!!! read more

What a wonderful find!!! We are camping at Bull Shoals/ White River campground and were looking for lunch. This place was wonderful. We had the crayfish pies, super yummy, classic gumbo, and the beignets. I have never had crayfish pie before, these were amazing. The gumbo was very good, not how I an used to but I really liked it. I also loved that everything is made medium heat and they can make it hotter for you if you like. I am a giant wimp with spicy so I really appreciate this. It was a little warm for me but very do able. The beignets were sooooooo good. Really reminded me of Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. We will most definitely be back when we are in the area. When my party and I first pulled up, I was apprehensive to say the least. It was not what you would expect a restaurant to look like. My party wasn't fazed one bit and we made our way inside. Once we got inside, I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and spaciousness. The bathroom was clean and nice. I'm not a big Cajun fan so I ordered a cheeseburger and added jalapeños. It was cooked well and had nice flavor. I tried the gator bites and they didn't disappoint. Everyone in my group was very happy with the food. We will be back. read more

Ate there for the first time yesterday. The Muffeletta was just ok - definitely not New Orleans good. The crawfish ettoufee and the classic gumbo were excellent. We were there at opening time and seated in the small side dining room. About the time we got our food, a very large group was seated in that dining room - obviously had reservations. The noise in that small room was very loud and we could not hear each other talk. Wish they had seated us in the other room away from the big noisy crowd. Might go back the next time we are in Mt. OMG... this is the real deal... food is great! I had the Seafood gumbo (only made on weekends). It was great. Didn't have to add any extra seasonings, it was perfect. My husband had shrimp creole and he said it was great. We shared the crawfish pies. I didn't get my share, my husband was steadily eating my crawfish pie my gumbo and his meal .
