We were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating since we had our pups with us and this place was perfect! Our server was super friendly and even brought water for the dogs! He brought Cuban bread with two yummy dipping sauces while we waited for our meals. I had the Garbanzos Guizados that came with plantains. So delicious and so much food! We love this place! A hidden gem but well worth finding. We have been going to the Copacabana Cuban Café for quite a while. Great authentic food and a great atmosphere. One of the best in the beautiful Mount Dora area. Especially on the outdoor seating area. I was really in the mood for Cuban one I found out there was a restaurant close by. We took the whole family and it was wonderful! The service was unmatched. Everyone was friendly and very accommodating. The all spoke Spanish too. The place was super clean and they had the nicest bathroom, although the should get a baby change table. The food was fantastic too. Gus had some chicken and rice. I had a appetizer platter with a mix of goodies. For the price I was expecting a small platter so I also ordered some plantain chips with garlic oil, which were delicious and everyone wanted my garlic sauce. My platter however turned out to be huge! It was two large empanadas, a huge pork tamale, a ball of meat and mash potato yumminess, and ... there was something else on my plate. OMG it was delicious though, every bite, that I could eat! We will definitely go back. Everyone else's food looked fantastic as well. We live in the next town over, and Mount Dora is one of our favorite places to dine. My family arrived at Copacabana around 5:45 and were seated immediately. Our waitress, Dejai, was very slow. She brought the two sauces- Chimichurra and the Creole sauces before our drinks. We noticed a thick, clear liquid at the bottom of both jars of sauces indicating that they had seperated and were past their expiration point. Our food arrived, but we had no silverware and had to wait until we could find a waitress to ask for it. Then, the entire meal, we were dive bombed by a fly. (Avoiding the heat and flies was the point of dining inside!) Once we were finished with our meal, we happened to look on our light dangling over the table and found three flies on the metal shade, and twenty more flies lining the electrical cord holding the light! When we pointed this out to the "Acting Manager" Dejai- after I asked to see the manager and overheard the waitstaff debating on who should pretend to be the manager...she blew off the large amount of flies and said that was to be expected since there were doors that were opened for customers to come in. My husband was sick an hour after the meal. We will NEVER return to Copacabana, and I will not ever recommend it to anyone. I did report this restaurant to the Department of Health. I'm not sure how they stay in business. I've been twice because I figured the first time must've been an off day for them but it was actually worse the second time. First I sat at the outdoor bar for 12 minutes while 2 different servers walked in & out past me neither acknowledged me once. And there were only 2 tables seated outside and this was early evening. Then a woman comes out and says "Oh can I get you a drink?'l Actually I'd like a menu. I was hoping she'd wipe the FILTHY bar down (covered in stickiness & cigarette ash) but nope she drops the menu down on top of it. I lifted the menu up & ask if it can be cleaned. Her response "Oh nobody has been sitting outside because of the heat". So that's why you leave it filthy?? PS ~ The indoor bar is disgusting too. We were in town for the Christmas weekend and looking for somewhere to eat ! Stopped in here and had heard they had great mojitos ! Yes they were ! Ate the flank steak which was cooked perfect and was served in cast iron skillet with sautéed onions ! I also have the avocado salad ! Copacabana Cafe was one of the few places open on Independence Day in downtown Mount Dora. They had music pumping into the street from their patio which lured us over (that and some decent Yelp reviews). The music was so loud we opted to sit inside instead of on the cute, roomy patio. Service was so prompt that we hadn't even slid into our booth before our drink order was being taken. As the meal progressed we were checked on less and less frequently to the point where we had to flag someone down for drink refills and our check. I know it was a holiday but they weren't that busy. The food was above average. Not the best Cuban food I've ever had I miss Havana Cafe!) but it definitely will satisfy you if you get the Cuban urge in tiny Mount Dora. You are served hot, buttery pressed bread while you wait. We ordered the Papa Rellenos as an app and the thing was huge! But it was too heavy on the mashed potatoes and too light on the meat. I ordered grilled shrimp served on a bed of yellow rice, black beans and a side of plantains. The shrimp were on the small side and were a little dry. Everything else was good though, especially the juicy, sweet plantains. I must admit I wasn't starving when we sat down so it might have tasted even better if I was really hungry. Husband and I have been to Copacabana Cuban Cafe, located in quaint Mount Dora, a few times, after learning about it from friends also originally from South Florida (think: knows Cuban food!). From the sweet Cuban bread delivered when you sit down to the flavorful (and huge!) portions, we haven't been disappointed on our multiple visits. This was so tasty!! I've never had authentic Cuban food, so I hate to say it, but I don't have much to compare it to. However what I do know is that the food was fresh, delicious and I can't stop thinking about my shredded chicken dish and the bread they serve before the entrees. The outdoor patio also makes the place! It is huge, covered, and has fans.... so definitely sit outside! Service was also good - perhaps a bit slow, but very friendly and helpful. Today Sunday April 30th I visited Copacabana. The majority of the staff were unfriendly. The only friendly waiter was a young African American guy. My waitress was really unfriendly and did not delivered a good service at all. I ordered a Pallomilla Steak with Moro rice or also called congri, and ripe plantains. The cook burned my steak to the point I couldn't eat it, and the maduros or also were burned. The congri rice also called moro rice was EXCELLENT. One of the best or the best that I ever had. I did not complain because I did not wanted to get upset. I noticed that the restaurant was being run by young adults that were careless. I you want good moro rice go, but the rest of my food was burned, and I give a D for the service. read more

Incredible food! So, so, so amazing that we've already figured out how we will make this a tradition when we come to Mt Dora. I can see why this place is rated so well. We had the Palomilla Steak with black beans and rice. It was juicy and tasty. We also tried the Chicken Ala Plancha and it was so tender you didn't even need a knife to cut it. The onions were superb. Just excellent all the way through. And, everything came out so piping hot too. The tostones were done perfectly and reminded me of childhood. Service was very very friendly, but they were busy (even at 3pm on a Saturday). We sat outside with no wait. Thanks for bringing great Cuban food back into my life. I lived in Miami for 12 years and I know Cuban food. This place is the real deal. I recommend the pernil! My friend also loved the tostones rellenos. We all started with the garlic shrimp to share and I'd pass on these next time though. The drinks need some work too, but we had happy hour options which was appreciated because it was a Saturday! We immediately felt welcome- the servers were very nice and the atmosphere felt refined but comfortable. I loved the artwork and Cuban feel. The food was great! The steak entrees looked appetizing and made me seriously question my decision to give it up. I decided on pollo instead, though, and it was delicious. Pressed into a sandwich and seasoned to perfection. They also had a good amount of vegetarian options. If we hadn't been planning on a long ride later that day I would have definitely tried a mojito. I don't know how to start this. Visited on 12/26 around 8:30 pm.The place was dirty. We were never given the menu, my husband had to get one from another table! We were sat at a table with no silverware/napkins. The waitress was nice but clueless. I asked for a cafe con leche and was brought "just what was left for the day.".And they wanted to charge full price for it! The espresso was terrible and, once again my husband had to get some sugar from another table and I had to use a straw to blend it. I saw that tables were given some bread or similar and we were never offered any. The food was so-so. We had visited this place 5 years ago. Maybe management is different. I think the manager is a lady who appeared from time to time, talked with some of the patrons, but never acknowledged us. She needs to learn how to run a restaurant or perhaps change her business field. We won't be back. read more

This restaurant has a beautiful outdoor seating area that is quiet, lush with plant, and very spacious. If you come here, the entrance is through the alley in the back and there is limited parking so you may walk a few blocks. The food for lunch was good, the lunch specials were reasonably priced but the food was underwhelming. I had the ropa veija, which is a favorite dish of mine, and the meat was good but the rice it was served with was white rice that was just colored to be yellow in my opinion. The meal came with maduros, sweet plantains, and they were very firm and now very sweet. The service was nice and we were seated quickly but since we were outside it took a while to get our checks. If I am in mount Dora again I would consider giving it a second shot, perhaps it was an off day for the kitchen, but it wasn't the best Cuban food I've had. read more

I have been here a couple of times and I should preface this by saying I am Cuban and most of my family lives In Miami. Both times I have been here I thought that the food was really solid - I have had better, but I have definitely had worse. This last time I got the Palomillia and it was really good - the portion was huge. I think you could definitely split that. They have this chimichurri sauce that I have never had anywhere before and it is addicting. They have a mild and a spicier option - I have only had the mild one. There are two cuban places in Mount Dora and this is the one to eat at. They have a very large selection of dishes and a full bar. I reccommend the Masita's or the pargo Frita.. They also have some good vegitarian eats which is unusual for a cuban place.. read more

After walking around the Mount Dora area my sister and I where excited to get some food. We decided to go here and I don't know why it has so many stars. Yes, the waiter was nice but the food was awful. Was not worth the price at all. I got the Cuban sandwich and my sister got the chicken sandwich. Don't get fooled by the size of the Cuban sandwich it's not worth it. Not only was the food served lukewarm it was just not impressive. The Cuban was flavorless and not good. There was barely any pork on the Cuban. The little amount on there was 80% fat. I know that when you get pulled pork your going to get fat pieces. Yet when I get a sandwich I went less fat and more meat. The chicken sandwich had one strip on it and was flavorless. I asked for more chicken and they gave me a tiny bowl full and that was good. Went to the restaurant just as the rush left and the next rush was about to start. The drinks were awesome and the food was ok. We wanted to try something we did not have easy access to in Washington so Cuban was it. Husband felt like fish so he had the steamed Mahi. He liked it but nothing much in the taste. I had the port masitas and the pork was dry. Not much fat in it to make it nice and tender. Masitas kind of remind me of my dad's Filipino adobo minus the sauce. Again food wasn't bad but also not the greatest. The drinks I would get again and the fast service was great. Very middle of the road. The service was good, food was hot, and the place is right in the heart of downtown Mount Dora which is great after shopping around a little. I'm visiting from south Florida where Cuban food is abundant and authentic and this place kind of missed the Mark on a few basic Cuban restaurant things. The Mariquitas were not what I was expecting at all and didn't have any flavor. I ordered the Churrasco which I always get at a Cuban restaurant and it came on a sizzling platter (never ever seen it prepared like that before) and it was not a good cut of skirt steak but they seasoned it well so it was decent. Churrasco normally always comes with fresh Chimichurri but this came in a syrup dispenser and was not good at all. The rice and beans were actually pretty good.
