This is an auction house for older model cars and mechanic fixers. Good enough. They have a lot of…read morevehicles donated by charitable organizations and they sell them on the organization's behalf many times. The premise of this operation is to provide an alternate outlet for consumers to purchase used autos at discounted dealer price and potentially get a fabulous deal for a car or personal purchase or for resale. The inventory rarely ages beyond the 2008 mark. As such, in 2017, one would expect deals at a reasonable price given auction billing. I say they push extremely hard to get price elevated to blue book values rather than operating at an auction level price range. Yes, there are deals to be had, but in my experience you are within a few hundred bucks of what you negotiate from a dealer or private party. My opinion is based on what I experienced, and that is that the auctioneer holds said vehicle in auction space for much too long, all the while touting virtues of said car, for such a lengthy duration that it drives prices up. Not a true auction experience, rather a practice of shaming potential buyers into paying more for a 2004 car than they would if presented a similar auto during a private or dealership transaction. The expectation of an auction is that you're taking things on chance; based on your interest and knowledge of vehicle; willingness to do any necessary repair and buy at a discount based on this scenario. I do not think that is what is happening at Orland Auto Auction. They are much too invested in getting folks wound up and paying more than they should rather than moving older vehicles to parties willing to take a risk. Do your research, check their vehicles carefully and buyer beware. Always. Maybe this is for you or maybe not, but don't let the schtick fool you.

I WOULD NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY AS A LICENSED SELLER.. IF YOU DONT FIND OUT THE PROBLEM YOURSELF THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU!! The extreme caution that should have hit me before we plunked down our 3 grand cash hit me only after taking the car to Penner's and finding out everything wrong with it. Cracked engine mount, no rear brakes, massive oil leak, shredding belts, bald tires. Jerry's estimate for this work was about what it would have cost to fix the engine mount alone in my neck of the woods. Jerry was sympathetic to our situation and knew we couldn't take the car on the 3 hour drive home. Thanks to his willingness to turn on a dime for us and fix all the problems he found in less than 30 hours at a very reasonable cost, we seem to have added a good car with lots of mileage left to the family "fleet" without significant inconvenience and while still paying less than retail. I'm still wondering if buying this car was a temporarily insane decision, But thanks to Penner's, we might actually have a decent, safe car that will see our kid through college & beyond. Great shop, hero level service.

I had purchased several county surplus vehicles and other lots, with no issue. The counties aren't trying to pull one over on the public but beware of the general auctions, as bidcal has created a format that allows the sale of vehicles, that may have emissions problems, being hidden by the sellers. I had been a good and loyal customer for many years but bought a car whose codes had been cleared, and less than two miles off the lot, the the dash lights up and all of a sudden its throwing emissions codes. I wanted to bring it back immediately but they gave me a bit of run around. It is impossible to inspect a car for codes like that, because simply turning the car over in the lot isn't enough to reset the emissions sensors, if they have been cleared by the owner upon parking it. After some time, they did end up refunding my purchase but they banned me from their auction like I was the one acting in bad faith. Beware of this auction, beware of the final auction prices, and beware of their attitude towards California emissions and vehicle transfer laws.
