VERY AROMATIC AND AN EXPLOSION OF FLAVORS. I have been to copper pot several times and the food is very good. The service has improved since they opened but it's kinda hit and miss. The restaurant is an old coffee shop and doesn't quite match the cuisine. The food is the best Indian food in the South Bay IMO. The boneless chicken biryani is consistently delicious. It is well spiced and has a mild kick. It comes with a yogurt to cool the mouth. It is visually colorful and appealing as well. It's a must order. The saag (spinach) curry is a bit creamier than I'm used to but very tasty. The andhra chicken is very flavorful and awakens all of your senses. Beware it has a spicy punch (but you knew the job was dangerous when you took it). The aloo gobi (cauliflower and potato curry) is delicious with nice texture. They are known for their dosa (enormous bread with variety of dips), which make for a nice appetizer to share with friends. All in all a go-to Indian restaurant for me. Don't expect to be pampered though as the service can be a little rough at times. This review is exclusively about a special event lunch organized by the restaurant to celebrate the South indian harvest festival Pongal on January 17th & 18th, 2026. ~ ~ We had an exceptionally amazing dining experience yesterday at Copper Pot's Pongal special lunch! This visit was completely unplanned. We were about to order takeout on Uber Eats when we noticed the Pongal lunch flyer from Copper Pot. (Check images) When we called, reservations had already closed and they had only a few walk-in spots left, but they kindly asked us to arrive 15 minutes before the start time so they could accommodate us. Having had a terribly disappointing "traditional" Pongal lunch experience at another nearby restaurant earlier, we were understandably skeptical, but we're so glad we gave it a chance. Missing this would have meant missing something truly memorable. From the moment we sat down, it felt truly special, a traditional multi-course Pongal feast served the authentic way on a banana leaf, just as it should be. The experience was made even more special by Ilaiyaraaja sir's timeless 80s and early 90s classics playing in the background, pure nostalgia and soul food for foodies and music lovers like us. We learned this was the very first time the restaurant hosted such a special event, yet the attention to detail, smooth organization, and genuine warmth made it feel like they had been perfecting it for years. The entire staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming and super attentive, accommodating even the smallest requests with genuine care. It wasn't just our stomachs that were full by the end, our hearts were too as it filled with appreciation and gratitude. Big shout out to their chef Taj and the restaurant's lifeline Judy, and their wonderful associates. We tried to pin down the waitress / hostess On what food would be best to order as they have an "all of India" type of menu and usually they specialize in one thing but We actually did order a lot of different things, focusing on the South Indian foods. One highlight was the chicken paratha and fish fry (picture) which is done in South Indian style and a different way than I've ever had. Very unprofessional could have just denied me service but yet wanted to threaten me. I had an incredibly disturbing experience at this establishment yesterday . After being left on hold for over five minutes while driving to place an order, I became frustrated. When a staff member finally took my call, I said "f*** it y'all been too slow, I'm almost there". I shouldn't have dropped the "f" bomb but it came out which I know I acknowledge my language was inappropriate. When I arrived to place an order, a woman at the counter had a man come out from the kitchen to confront me. Rather than simply refusing service, he became verbally aggressive and stated that he wanted to "slap and punch" me. Another male staff member joined in, and both challenged me to fight outside. I felt intimidated and unsafe, especially as they continued hovering around me, which led me to mention calling the police. Then they got back inside the kitchens. The lady started to brag about how I said slurs about "women hate" when all I said was f y'all too slow. Yall could've simply refused my order but you guys escalated it. Very unprofessional and very savagery. UPDATE: your team said he would slap me. What you mean that your team did not say those words. I acknowledge what I said which I apologize but you guys wanna brush off your shoulders like y'all didn't threaten me? And talk about women hate, I said exactly what I said. This place was interesting. Came here with a large group (8 people). The staff was very nice and very attentive (a little too attentive). We ordered our drinks and in multiple instances, they either forgot or misremebered or didn't get our drinks right. We had one server, then it was switched and it was very confusing. The food ordering was also chaotic. We distinctly asked for saag paneer..and thought we confirmed it with the host only to find out it was never ordered and we had to put in another order which added more wait time The highlights was the lamb vindaloo, very excellent. The rest was decent. The garlic naan was good and the overall dishes were good including the lamb biryani. The service was overall inconsistent, confusing and sometimes overbearing. They kept trying to take out plates when we still had food coming to the table. Like why would you try and take it when we have food coming? At least check with the waiter to know if we're done with our orders. I understood the intention to clean and take our plates but when we didn't even get all our food and being asked or almost having our silverware taken is kind of a bit annoying. Overall the experience was a bit underwhelming. If the service was better and consistent. I think I'd recommend this place. But for now it made me feel a bit apprehensive. read more

We've eaten there several times and enjoyed all the food at each visit. I have to eat gluten free and the Dosas are great gluten free crepes. Great extensive menu, especially if you have dietary restriction. The menu items are clearly marked as to whether they're gluten free, dairy free, vegan or nut free. I am a regular customer at Copper Pot Indian Grill, and I have enjoyed many soulful meals here over the time. Last night, however, was truly special. After seeing their 7-10 PM event on Instagram, I brought my family all the way from Irvine, and we thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it! We came for the unlimited Parotta, Salna, Omelette, and Sukka feast, and the authenticity was outstanding. Everything was served traditionally on a fresh banana leaf, which truly enhances the aroma and soul of the food. The Parottas were perfectly flaky, and the Sukka had that deep, rich spice profile that reminded us of a true home-cooked meal. You can really taste the care they put into staying true to traditional flavors. What keeps me coming back as a regular, though, is the incredible hospitality. A huge shoutout to the hostess--she was absolutely wonderful! Even with the restaurant buzzing, she was welcoming, professional, and made sure my family felt right at home. That level of genuine care and kindness is rare and makes every visit a pleasure. If you're looking for a place that treats you like family and serves food with real heart, this is the spot. This place has good food, yet the worst service. We literally went up to the front thinking we had to order up there since they were taking so long. Even after we ordered they took forever to give us our food. Before this we read reviews of people constantly having to go up to the front to ask for service. The people next to us were confused too since they didn't get their orders written down for a while. The people who decorated this place tried to make it look fancy but in some spots it looked like it was a C rated restaurant. Ordered lamb samosas for the appetizer . They arrived lukewarm and very dry inside . Tasted old . The tandoori chicken was not like most as it was in a spicy sauce without the usual onions piled on top. Chicken tikka masala and lamb korma arrived in a small dish and equally small portion . Rice came with the dishes. Garlic naan and butter naan complimented the meal. A little pricey for what you get . Service was good. Water glasses filled promptly. We've started visiting Copper Pot a lot more in recent months because of their dosas. They're absolutely delicious, especially if you sign up for their marketing--on weekdays, they send a text for a $5 dosa deal! While we've loved the dosas, I have to say we're a bit lost on what else to order. None of the other dishes come close to being as tasty. On top of that, almost all of the male waiters have trouble with English, leading to a few mix-ups with our food and orders. We really appreciated the female waitress, though; she was patient and took the time to explain the dishes and adjust the spiciness to our liking. One of my biggest pet peeves is cleanliness, and I was pretty put off when the server brought out our butter chicken curry with his finger dipped in the dish. Then we found a hair in the lamb chop, which was definitely the last straw for us. So I decided to give Copper Pot another try. Last time the food was amazing and the service was horrific. DITTO. Food great. It all started when I sat down at 11:32 when they are open for lunch at 11:30. Waiter said that they are not doing lunch for 10-15 minutes. I said lunch is 11:30. It is past that. He then took my order. Ordered my dish. I repeated the order 3 times when ordering. Of course, he brought the wrong dish. When I pointed this out, he basically implied I should eat it. Manager came over, and after some reluctance, said he would bring the correct dish. Unbelievable. When I expressed this to the manager, he didn't respond (and I praised the food profoundly). If you make a mistake, just apologize or something. Hey guys. You have great food. Now make sure you have at least competent service. I really don't think it is much to ask for. 2 visits. 2 extremely poor service experiences. Just provide the leadership and training needed. Just love your food. read more

Food when it first opened was excellent. Despite high prices, could rely on good authentic south Indian food. Fast forward to today, it's absolutely pathetic. And they cheat you like nobody's business. Multiple times now recently I order via DoorDash and they do a switcharoo on what they send you. For instance, today I ordered a pongal breakfast combo and to my shock when I opened the package they put an oily stale dosa in there instead of pongal. Had to throw it in the trash. Idli was worse. It was yellow and brown and looked like it had been made atleast 2 days ago. I paid $25 and got nothing out of my meal other than a Vada. Worst is when you contact DoorDash for a refund, they treat these items as sides so give you only paltry amount back in credits. Meanwhile Copper Pot collects the entire sum and laughs at how easy it is to cheat their customers with extremely poor quality food that isn't even what the customers ordered. Came here multiple times. First time was on a Wednesday for the buffet. Was told they don't have the buffet on Wednesdays. Then saw their sign for weekend buffet at 11:30am. Went there that Saturday for the buffet at 11:30. Was ignored by several staff as we waited for several minutes to be seated. Eventually the cook came out and told us buffet would be at 12pm for Father's Day lunch. Didn't have time to wait longer that day. We then called ahead of time on a different weekday to see if they were open at 11:30am but no, buffet is at noon. Came by at noon on a Friday but nope they don't have it.... The onion bhaji was slightly spicy. The cheese naan was nice and cheesy but kind of reminded me of a cheese quesadilla....The two main dishes were amazing though. Very flavorful. The food is good, really good. but this is the smallest samosas I've ever received at an Indian restaurant. You need to order 2x. My date's meal was the biriyani, which I strongly recommend that you avoid. It looked great in the photo but it was disappointing when delivered. There was only 1 piece of lamb, for a lamb dish. Imagine getting excited to eat lamb, then getting a bowl of rice totally lacking in meat, and she was left disappointed with the food and the lack of protein and presentation in a $22 bowl of Indian fried rice. With tiny yogurt and sauce in plastic cups. Such a lack of delivery. I actually looked in the left over, and there was 2 more chunks and many small chunks. I think this was a food presentation issue for my dinner companion, she is partially blind. I think she probably couldn't find like 2 additional pieces. Biryani was not the right meal for her. A good server would connect with this. By cook I asked an assistant for my check, he did nothing and went back to washing a tray. I might order delivery from this restaurant, but I don't think I'll go back and sit there anytime soon. The assistants are not attentive, the manager is doing the food runners job, the cooks are overcooking the chicken. Now the redeeming quality is the flavor. The food flavor of this restaurant is amazing. 5 of 5 on food. This place needs 2 really good servers. Then could be popping. The place is adequately clean, the music is nice, but the terribly slow service ruins it all. Having the floor manager and the head chef for 8 tables is not ok. Very cute, casual Indian cafe with lots of authentic regional dishes. I didn't think the service was slow at all like other Yelpers mentioned. We were seated with menus in a timely manner and the staff was fairly attentive. The timing of the dishes was a little awkward - our appetizers arrived first and our drinks arrived around the same time as our entrees. As someone who frequents Indian restaurants within the area, I can say that Copper Pot Indian Grill had a great menu and the food was delicious. My husband and I went out of our comfort zone from ordering the usual suspects... palak paneer, chicken 65, tikka masala etc. and tried other dishes that we weren't too familiar with. We've been going to Copper Pot since it changed to an Indian Restaurant couple of years ago. The food's always been decent, not great but not bad.. We like that it's close to our home and it's reasonably priced. We were pleasantly surprised this time that they added a lunch buffet! We always eat Chicken Tikka Masala and Vindaloo but wanted to other things. So buffet was a welcomed addition! There were quite a few diners in the buffet dining area. Rest of the restaurant was empty. They said they added lunch buffet about a month ago. They offered a tomato-y soup, salad, 2 kinds of biriyani, tandoori chicken, chili chicken, couple of curry dishes, dal, samosas, saag paneer to name a few.. It also comes with a basket of naan bread and a drink bar. I'm not an expert in Indian food but most of the things tasted good to me~ For 2 of us, it came out to a little over $35. with tip, $20 per person for lunch a kind of steep for us (especially since we have no leftovers to take home) but being able to try many Indian dishes was worth it for today. Had the special Onam Sadhya today! It was very authentic and was a great spread. You could clearly see that a lot of effort had gone in to make the dishes taste just perfect.
