I stopped to get donuts on the way to work. Planned to buy about 3 dozen. Walked in the door and wondered why no one would greet me or ask how they could help. Instead, a lady with dark short hair saw me, turned around and walked toward the kitchen. She threw her hands in the air and yelled to her coworkers "who opened the door?" I walked out, looked at the operating hours sign outside which read that they open at 8:00 AM. The door WAS open. I looked at my watch -- it was 7:58 AM! I waited until 8:00 AM and went back in. I spoke politely to the woman and told her that she has lousy customer service and that I have no intention of EVER returning or buying anything. She didn't even apologize but instead said that they weren't open yet. I told her that I would rather she told me that instead of yelling to her coworkers. I left. I went to Dunkin' Donuts instead. We stopped here for dessert after having dinner in Little Italy. We were so disappointed with our dinner that we walked into Corbo's with no expectations. We walked in around 9pm; the bakery wasn't very busy and still full of pastries. We were recommended to try the ricotta pistachio cake. And man, did it blow our minds! To be honest, it wasn't the most appealing cake in the glass case that night but I would go back in a heartbeat to get that cake again. It was slightly on the expensive side at $6 per slice but in this economy, what isn't -- this cake was worth every penny! It turned our disappointing date night to something memorable. read more

My pignoli cookie and white chocolate covered hazelnut biscotti were both so much better than the last times I've had Corbo's (not bad just hit or miss). Corbo's is by far, the best Italian Bakery in Cleveland! Been going there for years. It is well worth the drive from the suburbs. They have any Italian pastry you can imagine. Their cream filled Lobster Tails are heavenly. The pastry is so flaky. The cream, not that overly sweet you get at other bakeries. The best is their cannoli. They don't fill them ahead of time. They are filled when you purchase them, so the shell stays crispy. Their cakes are always fabulous! The only downside is parking in Little Italy. Very limited. I had previously rated Corbo's a "3" because I wasn't enamored with the various desserts I had tried there. Each time I ordered something out of the mouth-watering case, it just didn't live up to my expectations and was just "ok." However, I had had one donut and really enjoyed it and always had the intent to go back on a morning donut run. Well luckily, I opted to go to a Saturday morning Mass at Holy Rosary to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. I knew it was the perfect opportunity to stop at Corbo's after and grab a dozen donuts. My timing was perfect- I had gotten there about when they opened, so the donut assortment was plentiful and I was able to get a great variety of donuts- maple, chocolate and vanilla long johns, various sprinkled donuts, glazed cinnamon and Boston cream. The donuts were fantastic and among some of my favorites. Just the perfect type of mom and pop place to grab a dozen donuts that are sure to please everyone. Now that I am a huge fan of their donuts, I wanted to update my review to a "4." Although some of the other treats are not among my favorites, I will definitely be back for more donuts. After visiting their 2nd location at Playhouse Square on my last trip to Cleveland I wanted to find the original location. Once we reached little Italy we couldn't park so I had to dash in and quickly scramble to get some goodies. Corbo's specializes in Italian baked pastries, pastas, cakes, ice cream. and like any bakery takes special orders. Their number one hit however is the cannoli. You can order it plain or chocolate covered. I had the latter and believe me it was so good I just couldn't put it down. I was able to order some for take out since I had brought a cooler and figured with the cold weather it would keep. I was right, they did. Prices are very reasonable for the cannolis and I was so glad to enjoy one as well as my husband who had been driving around. I loved the Godfather themed Tee shirt they were selling- so appropriate for an Italian bakery. Located on Mayfield Road, street parking is available if you can find it and it looks like it is near public transportation. read more

I haven't been here for years, and I forgot how awesome the treats are from here! We had originally planned on going to Presti's to pick up dessert after dinner, but it was ridiculously crowded, so we made our way here, and to our delight there was a line, but nowhere near what Presti's was like. I don't know why this was the case though, since we were so much more excited about the options of what we could get here! My husband got a chocolate vanilla mousse cake, I got a lobster tail, and we got the chocolate and white chocolate florentines, and a sfogliatella to split. My husband loved his rich and decadent cake, the florentines were a nice crispy treat, and that lobster tail was huge!! It is so flaky and full of custard, I was so excited to try this one since I haven't seen it a bakery ever and had only heard of them! We love Corbo's and visit them every time we are dining in Little Italy. We stopped in on Friday for bakery and lemon ices. The woman working at the register was not very nice and acted stressed and rushed. We even asked if perhaps it was closing time, which it was not. It was about 3 in the afternoon and she advised that they close at 10pm. We had brought out of town guests in because we live Corbo's. It was very disappointing. Thank you. read more

Corbo's Bakery is a Little Italy classic. The smell hits you from the outside before you even walk in. There aren't so many places to park in little Italy, but luckily it's a nice little place to stroll around. The cannolis here are AMAZING. I think everyone should have a chocolate dipped flaky cream filled piece of heaven. They come in both chocolate dipped and non chocolate dipped forms. I believe it's around $3.00 a cannoli but well worth it. They also have an amazing array of cookies, pastries, kolachkies, biscotti, you name it. There are wonderful little tri-colored and white chocolate covered Birthday Cake cookies that are possibly my favorite. I had a ton of fun having trouble picking between the the big selection for a Christmas cookie tray for my family. This review is for the cassata cake. My first try of this lovely yellow cake, filled with fresh strawberries coated in strawberry reduction then double insulated in what might be an inch-thick layer of generously heaped whipped frosting was here. It's good :) Sometimes, if you're lucky, they are cutting the cake in front of you and you get a slice that is everything a good and messy strawberry delight should look like. As several yelpers have mentioned, this place has been a fixture that has stood its ground against the test of time, expanding into distribution through local grocers and what not. That said, I'm sort of in love with Presti's down the street because I get withdrawal symptoms if I go too long without their date nut bars, but I will always remember Corbo's as the first place to introduce me to Cleveland's Cassata cakes. Many Cassata cakes later, I'm still torn between Corbo's, Presti's, and Colozzas...but we especially stop in to Corbo's for the holidays as Best's mom has an affinity to their traditional cookies, a taste of good old nostalgia. Nostalgia needs no explanation :) it seems I've developed a little nostalgia for myself also, so I like to take every opportunity to find myself in Little Italy. Sometimes there's only one person behind the counter, so depending on the day, know that you may have to be extra patient. There were two people present on the day we came by, but one was manning the phone lines and was occupied by telephone orders. The lovely people ahead of us were taking quite a while in choosing, so I posted a photo of the menu so hopefully this doesn't happen to me again. Kidding. (The fellow on staff was super nice.) Cannolis are filled to order and a previous yelper who is a regular here made a very useful comment that you can order in bulk and take the filing home in a separate baggie. They have an infamous quote from The Godfather (movie) about cannolis. But if you ask me, take the Cassata cake :D and a fork. ...And eat everything before you reach the end of the block so no one knows you're a naughty little two timer. read more

One selection stands out amongst all competitors, and that is the cassata cake. It's actually where the Cleveland style cassata cake originated. This review is for Downtown location. The place located next to playhouse square- cool spot! Before or after performance, you can drink coffee and have some pastries. The place looked mediocre- no interesting interior or cozy atmosphere. Also, I would say the place was overpriced. I ordered a small late and small pastry that wasn't fresh and tasted okay. I paid over 8 $. Taking into account that on opposite side of the street is Starbucks and couple blocks are university's cafeterias where prices are lower, I doubt that I will comeback. read more

Corbo's had me before I even walked in. Case in point: a sign on the door that reads 'Leave the gun, take the cannoli.' (As a disclaimer, this is not a political statement about gun laws, this is a quote from The Godfather). Cases upon cases upon cases of doughnuts, cassata cake, biscotti (my favorite), cannoli and more will greet you when you enter. Don't be scared to ask the girls behind the counter questions. They'll give you great suggestions! Corbo's is basically a Cleveland institution and you can't go wrong with any order. I love that not only does the bakery have readily available items in the cases, but a freezer full of gelato and other frozen treats, a wall of $3 "odds and ends" boxes of biscotti and cookies (such a deal), and other to-go cakes boxed and ready to go. The "odds and ends" are literally just as good as anything else deemed as perfect. We all know parking in Little Italy can be tough. Should you be in the neighborhood and happen to find a spot, just take it. Go in and get something even if you don't need it! Store it in the fridge and eat it later. For me, the must tries at Corbo's are the freshly stuffed cannoli and the cassata cake. Definitely leave the gun and take the cannoli. read more
