Don't let the hours fool you... We got here at 9:45 and the elote man didn't come until 10:45! But when you're as popular/in demand as he is, can you blame him? Ended up getting our corn around 11 PM for $2 each. You can get it in a bowl or the whole corn on a stick. Overhyped if your Hispanic/Mexican. Being Mexican I've had esquite (corn in a bowl)/ elote (corn cob on a stick) my whole life. I came on a Friday night and waited 1 hour in line with my boyfriend and a friend. While waiting in line my friend noticed that the toppings were your standard limón, mayo, butter and cheese, chile optional. So nothing special there. He offers esquite or elote and has soft drinks. The "corn man" prepares your corn and someone else handles the cash. The only thing really going for him is having a location. That's it! He's established a spot where parking is easily accessible and he has his set schedule unlike other "elote people" who usually walk the neighborhood going house to house. His corn is good but it's nothing amazing or extremely outstanding, tbh. CHECK THIS PLACE OUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE NEVER HAD ESQUITE/ELOTE AND MAKE SURE TO CARRY SOME PEPPER SPRAY OR A POCKET KNIFE BECAUSE ITS IN THE HOOD. read more

This is seriously the best place, you would think that with so many places that sell elotes or esquites that you could fine a comparable place. Well you can't. It does say 10pm that he opens but honestly he doesn't open at ten the few times we have went. He does have amazing customer service though. People complain because they have to wait for him to get there and him not being their by 10. Ignore those dumb people, this is not an actual restaurant, it's on a corner. You don't have to worry because he does have security go by to make sure he's ok and the people that are there to eat. There is nowhere to eat but hey when you have the corn you don't need a place. THIS IS THE BEST ELOTE I'VE EVER HAD! And I'm typing in caps lock because it is well deserved. He's been working this job for the past 27 years for 365 days, so I commend him for staying committed to doing what he does best -- making elote. He also works rain or shine! The elote is only $2, and you can also chose to get it in a bowl as well. I love getting it on the cob, because although it is a bit messy, it's more fun to eat it that way. The bowl is a great option if you want a cleaner experience. He packs on a a generous amount of cotija cheese, which is my favorite part! And he's just as generous with the butter as well. However, the chili powder can be quite spicy. It tends to burn your lips, especially if you're eating it on the cob and not the bowl. If you're not the strongest person who can handle a kick, I would ask him to add less chili powder. The lime is a great addition which reduces the heaviness from the mayo and cheese. He works at a stand, so there's no place to sit, but I still found it enjoyable to eat in the parking lot. It's my second time getting corn from the Corn man, and he doesn't disappoint. For those of you wondering what an elote consists of, it's corn with butter, mayo, parmesan cheese, and the optional chile and lime. For $2 for a bowl (the cob is $1.50-$2 I think), you get your money's worth because he doesn't skimp on the toppings. The lines get pretty long, but he works pretty fast. Even though he can whip up your food in breakneck speed, I'd recommend getting there early especially if you want your elote on the cob since some customers like to buy them in bulk. If you are one of the lucky ones that are first in line, bring cash (small bills if possible), because they don't except card. I usually pick the bowl due to it being the cleaner option of the two. I've heard it tastes better on the cob, but I don't want to pick my teeth or have mayo and cheese on my face. I've always heard about this corn man serving the party crowd into the middle of the night. When we arrived there was a line and I thought to myself is it worth waiting for, well we waited about a half an hour to get our order in. Someone who was eating next to the corn man looked familiar to me and it was "Fluffy" enjoying his plate of corn. Very nice comedian, he shows up at all the hot spots around town. That first bite...my goodness. The corn was warm and juicy, smothered in butter, mayo, cheese and some chili power... Thank you, Corn Man! We got to the stand around 11:30 and waited for about 45 mins. By the time we ordered, they were already out of the cobs so we got the corn bowls. Still good, but I wish I tried the cob because it is fresh off the cob yah know? Wow. I remembered when this page only had 4-5 pages of reviews. All the foodies have blown this up! I have been going to Corn Man since 2013-14 when my bf's friend introduced it to us! I have always been a fan of elotes, but I find myself craving Corn Man's elotes very often. It's a good thing his stand is a bit far from where we live! Otherwise, we'd gain many, many pounds. We tried other elotes, but it's just not the same. Corn Man set the bar high! There's something so perfect in his elotes, that creates the most mouthwatering taste. The amount of each ingredient is perfectly porportioned. The lime cuts into the heaviness from the mayo and cheese, while the chili powder gives it a nice kick! I personally can't handle too much spice, but I don't think it's that spicy. Maybe a 1 out of 10 spice level. The butter & mayo tie everything together into a creamy goodness. We order 2 each most of the times, so we can have one to eat asap, and one to take home. And if I'm feeling extra fattie, I order 3 bowls. The wait time can vary depending on the day and time. I hate the cold, but for elotes, I will stand in the cold! Even during winter time. The neighborhood can be shady. Our friend who introduced us to Corn Man and lives nearby, got his car broken into or stolen. Just be aware of your surroundings. When we first ate here, it was only $1.50 per bowl. Sadly, the price has been increasing over the years. Now, $2.50. It makes sense though. Corn Man has a business to run! And inflation. Still very cheap. And still very worth it to us. I got there when there were about 25-30 people in line, at 11:47pm. I was finally out of line with my 2 bowls at 2.50 (yes, get two for yourself bc one is not enough) at 12:33am. Keep in mind that no matter how close or far you are from the front, other parties of people in front of you may have stragglers coming in the line with them at any point. Yes, at least 10 people cut the line before our eyes to join their friends/families. This bothered me at first, because of how long it was taking already, but if I'm to be honest, I would hope to do the same if my friends were in line for me. So don't let this bother you too much. Just bring a well-charged phone or some social friends of yours to ease the suspense and anticipation during the wait. They take cash only, and they have beverages for sale also. It's also important to note (for those not familiar with the area), that there is a parking lot, adjacent to where he stations his cart. People can park in that lot and the line flows into the lot as well. There may be a couple of homeless people sleeping in the lot, but the area is otherwise safe. Pretty solid elote! Arrived 15min before 10:30PM and there were about 15-20 people in line already. The Corn Man didn't come til 10:45 or so and we didn't get our corn bowl til 11:45. Have been here a total of 3 times the first was before COVID and the only time I got lucky enough to score elote Mexicano which is the OG way to eat corn. I don't really like the sweet corn he always carries (apparently the Mexican corn doesn't sell as good). So I had a good first experience 5 stars. The second time (during covid) I arrived at 10:30 and had to wait A LONG time and they didn't arrive until 11:20 I've read other reviews and the tardiness seems to be a common occurrence so just a heads up. That time they were wearing a mask. I was a bit disappointed about there not being Mexican corn but it was still a good experience. Last time I went, was the last time...people behind me in line were not social distancing making me uncomfortable and the elote man and his son were not wearing masks or taking steps to make sure the are being sanitary. I'm sure many health codes are being violated and during different circumstances people would probably pay no mind but in the middle of a pandemic?!? I was very disappointed. They also antagonized a customer on Twitter for being concerned about the lack of safety precautions and bringing up a valid concern (them not wearing masks). Perfect late-night snack! After a night out in L.A., it's easy to grab two of my favorite foods in the world: tacos or bacon-wrapped hot dogs. The streets of L.A. are famous for these types of sustenance, but sometimes I'm not in the mood for either and elote (corn) is the answer. There are corn vendors throughout Southern California, but I love the fact that this particular Corn Man has his own Yelp page -- and for good reason. He's friendly, fast, and serves up excellent corn. I prefer corn on the cob, but if you get here too late, he'll sell out and you'll have to get the corn in the bowl (esquites), which was obviously canned, but still delicious and served hot. The corn man is so nice and really honest. I seen a couple of times when people walked off forgetting their change and he'll call after them. If you are not familiar, it is corn just slathered in mayo, coated in cheese, seasoned with limon and chile and then coated in cheese again. Unhealthy? Yes. Delicious? Also yes. On a Thursday around 11 pm there were only a few people ahead of us, but we still waited quite a bit (30 minutes) because people were ordering multiple at once. I shudder to imagine how the wait is during peak times, and I don't think I would wait longer than half an hour for this snack. When we were almost to the front, they announced that they ran out of corn on the cob (NOOO!). However, corn in a bowl is just as tasty, even if it feels less fun. It is a joy to watch the Corn Man work his magic. He works as quickly as he can, a one-man show with just his son there to help him collect money. American which is a bit on the sweet side and Mexican with is non sweet corn. 2. He uses good quality toppings and has more options than the other corn carts do. His topping choices are mayo, lime, chili powder, cheese, butter. 3. He is not stingy with the toppings! He puts more than enough of everything on your corn. 4. He offers his corn 2 different ways. On the cob or in a bowl. Kind of a similar concept to the burrito and burrito bowl. 5. DA CHEESE! He uses really good cheese. He mixes 2 different cheese in his mix. Finally got to visit the legendary corn man yesterday! Streeet tacos are usually the go-to meal but since this street food location was only 10 minutes from the Novo, we decided to stray from our usual. It was only Thursday night post-concert time (so ~11:30pm) and there was still a line! We waited for about 15 minutes until it was our turn. Although I would usually opt for esquite as opposed to elote (as I really dislike eating with my hands) the regulars in line convinced me to try the corn on the cob. Especially since I heard that they sometimes run out of the elote due to popular demand, so I had to get on that. And good thing I got the elote because it was amazing! For $2.50, you get a huge corn smothered in a whole lotta mayo, queso, chile (which can really give it a kick!), and some creamy cheese(?) sauce too!
