Service -- You definitely can tell they are new new by the slow response times (most of the hostesses appear fairly young and likely inexperienced). The older staff took the reins and saved this review from being a strong two (2)! I waited several minutes to be greeter and then was told because I did not have a reservation, the only availability at that time was the bar. Say less! I posted up at the bar and ordered a simple berry lemonade. Tasty! Next, I ordered the two-piece (white) chicken meal with collard greens (yummy, with a little kick) and Gouda macaroni and cheese (a little dry for that early in the morning, but it wasn't "bad"). The chicken was flavorful and fried to a golden crisp! The vibe (ambiance) is what I would return for. Chef Richard came out to box up my leftovers -- he was on point and really saved the service review! The DJ -- Honey! The food was way overpriced for the quality. Several dishes were overly salty, and the chicken was dry and lacked flavor. The peach cobbler was far too sweet and wasn't enjoyable. I also didn't realize that a gratuity had already been added to our bill, so I ended up tipping twice. It would have been appreciated if our server had pointed that out before I paid. I recently had the pleasure of dining with a close friend at Cornbread and Butter for dinner. We arrived at our reserved time, and the restaurant was in full swing. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Our server, Zoe, was ultra-cheerful! She answered our questions and gave spot-on recommendations. Our drinks came out quickly. We ordered smoked old-fashioneds and were impressed with the bartender smoking them at our table. We asked for some simple syrup to make our drinks sweeter, and our request was graciously fulfilled. The wait for our food was reasonable. The consultant/concierge spoke with us during our wait. I had eaten at Cornbread and Butter during its opening week, and the fried chicken lacked seasoning. I usually give a new restaurant some grace, and I am glad I did, as this restaurant has eradicated all opening week jitters. I reordered the pressure-fried chicken with sweet potato casserole and collard greens. The food was piping hot and deliciously prepared. My friend ordered salmon, hot honey macaroni and cheese, and sweet potato casserole. She savored every bite. Her food also came out piping hot. In fact, we both had to let things cool down just a bit! We both agreed this small, quaint restaurant is a huge plus to our Grayson community. The vibe is positive and vibrant! First timer here! I've seen videos and reviews on TikTok that convinced me to give this place a try. Our friends and neighbors invited us to dinner, not knowing this was the place. 6:30 reservation, and yes, it's best to call ahead, as the dining area is small. Had no idea exactly where it was, but as we got closer, we started to recognize the area. It's an upcoming area that they consider "The Square". If you've visited The Grove in Snellville, it's similar. The Grove is larger But this area is exactly as I described: a square housing restaurants and salons. Most of the stores had closed for the day Cornbread and Butter seats maybe 30-40 ppl, including the bar stools. The bar serves liquor only, if I'm not mistaken. Casual ambiance from what I observed. Jeans, jacket, shorts, etc. As I was snapping pictures, the owner was sitting next to us with his Consultant. He shared his background and how long he has been in the area. Very nice guy who loves to cook. He's born and raised in MS Our friends have eaten here before, so they guided us on what to order. I ordered salmon w/petite potatoes, Cesar salad, and Mac & Cheese. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Tender and seasoned just right with lemon butter Hubby ordered pork chops, sweet potato soufflé, and skillet-fried corn. He noted it was all delicious. Chops were lightly fried with a hint of spicy . They are a generous portion, about the size of your hand. Friends ordered catfish fillets (2), okra, green beans, and chicken & waffles. Catfish was lightly fried, very flaky. Delicious! The green beans had a hint of pepper (spicy), but they were good. Same for the chicken I ordered the collard green dip. Think of spinach dip except it's collards. Topped with cheddar cheese. It was tasty, but more so of the smoked turkey meat that is chipped up throughout the dish. It's served with chips (fried pita bread) The strawberry cornbread reminded me of a cupcake. It's a cornbread muffin topped with strawberry sauce. It's good! I only had a forkful of the peach cobbler, but let me tell you it's delicious! I will eat more tomorrow Overall, we enjoyed our waitress's service. She was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. The menu items I viewed on their site and chose to visit the restaurant to order were not offered at the restaurant. I have diet restrictions so It took me time to try to figure out how certain items were actually prepared to make the right choice, while I noticed several times two kitchen staff and the bartender staring at me for some reason. My suggestion would be to make mini cornbread (because your name is cornbread and butter) and have this as a free bread option to your patrons. Great food, great service, pleasant ambiance. We were a party of 3 and arrived at 6pm on a Thursday. We had no wait before seating. Our server, Makala, greeted us right away and made us feel welcome. After hearing her recommendations we ordered their specialty Collard Green Dip as an appetizer. It is delicious; a must-have. For entrees, we had the fried catfish, Korean BBQ short ribs, and Cajun Fried Fish. All three were delicious but the fried chicken far exceeded expectations -- sooooo good! For sides we had the fried okra, skillet corn, sweet potato souflee, peach & jalapeño cornbread and the Hoison green beans. Okay, all were excellent but the green beans take the win. The manager, Marquita, made a point of checking in on us and made sure everything was fantastic. We'll be back. Maybe next time we'll go when we can experience the brunch menu. I was definitely excited to try this restaurant. It's a very small, quaint spot, and we sat at the bar. The bartender/server was excellent and provided great service throughout the evening. I ordered the jerk peach lamb chops with greens and mac and cheese, along with an Old Fashioned, while my mom ordered the fried chicken with potato wedges and greens. The Old Fashioned was excellent. One odd detail, though, was that water was served in what looked like shot glasses instead of regular water glasses. We arrived right at 5 p.m. when dinner service started, but the food still took a while to come out. Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing. My lamb chops had good flavor but were not served warm. The greens were overly salty, and the mac and cheese was just okay. The cornbread muffin, however, was very tasty with a light drizzle of honey. My mom's fried chicken was lukewarm and tough, which suggested it may not have been cooked properly. I also tasted a wing, and it lacked crispiness and had an overpowering flour taste. The potato wedges were also too salty. Overall, we were disappointed with the food quality. Met my bestie there for brunch yesterday eager to try a new place. It is in the Railyard in Grayson but it is kinda difficult to actually find. Upon entering it's smaller than I expected but that's what I get for having preconceived notions. It is warm and inviting and had many smiling eager faces greeting us! We explained to our server that we would be catching up and since it wasn't very busy at 12:30 on this Tuesday would it be okay to take up her table for a couple of hours and she assured us that would be fine. Of course, within the last hour we had four other people checking on us to make sure we were OK so we'd have to go thru telling them the same ! Now onto the actual food... we both ordered the catfish that came with one side and I thought cornbread but neither of us received any cornbread, so I'm going to assume that it needed to be ordered at an additional cost. Since the 2 pieces of catfish and 1 side was $24 excluding tax & tip we didn't bother to inquire about the cornbread. Both pieces of my catfish were kinda small, one being slightly larger than the other but both were over cooked. I eat mine starting at the end and it was hard not crispy letting me know that it was over cooked. My friend started in the middle of her largest piece which was palm size and said hers was very tasty but another establishment we both enjoyed going to for catfish was much better, bigger and lower in price. Now my side was Gouda mac n cheese and after a couple bites I remarked that it had a odd flavor compared to other dishes of the same... my friend tasted it and said it was the gouda bc it wasn't smoked gouda and that seemed to be the only cheese except for the cheddar on the top. Her side was the collard greens and we both said that they were the best item between us both. My only regret was I had left my phone charging in my car so I didn't take any pictures. I truly wish this restaurant the best but I doubt that myself or my friend will go back. We loved the food and service! I had the mimosa tower and my spouse had the peach tea. That tea was simply amazing- so strong and flavorful! We got the peach jerk wings- crispy and flavorful, and that sauce is so elevated! So good. We also got the collard dip and it was so flavorful and creamy! Loved it. The cornbreads were very good- especially the strawberry. I had the sweet potato waffle which tasted good with just butter. Also, the sweet potato soufflé was so very tasty- not too sweet. We also had the pressure cooked chicken with the thai chili sauce. That sauce was also magnificent- so complex and great! The workers were very pleasant and fun- they took very good care of us. We even got to see Chef Jernard while we were there which was very exciting! It was an excellent meal and we wish we lived closer so we could try more of the menu soon. read more

a long-time Grayson resident, business owner, community leader, civil servant, and U.S. military veteran, I was thrilled to welcome Chef Jernard and his family-owned restaurant to our area. Our family has followed Chef Jernard's career for years. As black business owners ourselves, we intentionally and passionately patronize Black-owned establishments. Unfortunately, our inaugural experience at Cornbread and Butter was deeply embarrassing and entirely unacceptable. I placed a $200 order (Brittany and Candie ordered separately that day, totaling $200), only to discover it was missing multiple items. When I returned to the restaurant to kindly request a rectification, I was met with unprovoked hostility from the manager, Ms. Kenna. Rather than offering a standard professional apology, Ms. Kenna dismissively stated, "Well, I'm just gonna give it to you"--as if she were doing me a favor or handing out charity, rather than correcting an order I had already paid for. Ms. Kenna's demeanor was loud, rude, and incredibly crass. When I calmly pulled her aside to let her know that her approach was unbecoming of a leader and that she might not realize how aggressive she was coming across, she doubled down. She chose to gaslight me about my experience, grow architecture, and engage in an argumentative back-and-forth. When I informed her that her behavior had just lost them a customer, she flatly replied that she "did not care." I want to extend my gratitude to Marketa, who was very kind and genuinely tried to help resolve the issue. However, Marketa's professionalism was entirely overshadowed by Ms. Kenna's toxic leadership. As a manager, Ms. Kenna had multiple avenues to handle this professionally. A true leader would have: -Acknowledged the kitchen's mistake immediately with a basic apology. -De-escalated the situation by speaking at an appropriate, professional volume rather than being "loud and wrong." -Assured the guest that the missing items would be corrected promptly, rather than treating a paying customer like an inconvenience. It is incredibly disheartening to say this, but this exact type of substandard, defensive service is why Black-owned restaurants face unfair stigmas. We fight hard to support and uplift our own, but encounters like this make it exhausting. Grayson residents are accustomed to a high standard of community respect and hospitality. If this hostile, "Food Network" ego is the type of environment you intend to bring to our community, it is not welcome. I am ashamed of how this establishment represents itself. I will never patronize nor recommend this business again. Ms. Kenna is a liability to this brand, and until the ownership addresses her abysmal management style, I urge neighbors to take their business elsewhere. read more

Cornbread & Butter is an absolute gem in Grayson! First, be prepared to relax and enjoy the experience. Everything is handcrafted and made to order, not pre-made and sitting under a heat lamp. A little patience is required, but trust me--it is more than worth the wait. We decided to have a bit of a smorgasbord and sample as much as possible. We enjoyed the whole chicken platter with sweet potato soufflé, truffle fries, strawberry honey buttermilk cornbread, a Caesar side salad, the catfish platter, and the honey hot collard green dip experience. Every single item was phenomenal. The flavors were outstanding, the portions were generous, and you could tell everything was prepared with care and attention to detail. To top it all off, we took home their homemade cinnamon and brown sugar peach cobbler, which was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. I was extremely impressed by both the quality and quantity of food we received. Even better, the prices were very reasonable for what you get. Our server, Brayton (if I have the name correct), was exceptional, and the entire wait staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Great service all around. This is definitely going to become one of our go-to restaurants. If you're planning to visit on a Sunday, I strongly recommend making reservations. After seeing ads on social for this new brunch spot, my family and I decided to try. The food wasn't to our liking. It took almost an hour before our food arrived to our table. The meat and fish were seasoned but the sides were not good. The grits were gritty, not smooth and creamy and arrived cold and congealed, the mash potatoes were soupy, the Mac n cheese was very dry with very little seasoning and a cheese sauce on top that was flavorless. The cornbread was very dry and tasted like a box version. The sweet potatoes were very dark in color and had too much cloves. Also, the chicken wings were undercooked. We expressed to the manager our dislike of the food and why. She became a little argumentative and stated that our opinions were a matter of taste and everybody has different taste. She did provide a discount on the meal, she apologized, and offered to remake some dishes but we declined. Because anyone can have an off day, I may give it another try in the future. read more

Me and my mother came here for Mother's Day and had a reservation booked for 8:00 AM. When we arrived, we were told the restaurant didn't even open until 9:00 AM. At that point, every other restaurant nearby was already fully booked, so we felt stuck and decided to wait. What made the situation worse was the manager's response. Instead of taking accountability, she blamed the scheduling app and told us they "might not be able" to seat us, but we wouldn't know until 9:00 AM. After we waited over an hour, she then started seating people with 9:00 and 9:30 reservations before the group of us who had already been waiting there since before opening. That made absolutely no sense. The people who had been inconvenienced by the restaurant's mistake should have been prioritized instead of brushed aside. The manager was argumentative, dismissive, and not apologetic at all. It honestly ruined what was supposed to be a special Mother's Day outing with my mom. To make matters worse, once we finally got seated, the food was subpar and the menu was nothing like what was advertised online. This is supposed to be a brunch place, yet the only breakfast-style option available that morning was barbecue shrimp and grits. Waiting over an hour for a completely different and lackluster menu was incredibly disappointing. Overall, the experience was disorganized, misleading, and poorly handled from start to finish. My daughter ordered 2 piece pressure fried chicken, sweet potatoes, greens and Mac and cheese she also had the fries potato wedges that they gave her complimentary ( she subbed Mac & cheese for fries) the only item that wasn't tasty was the sweet potatoes they were mushy and the molasses was so strong and over powering. By the way chef Jenard my daughter has an excellent recipe for sweet potatoes that she would like to share with you ; I had the chicken ceaser salad, very tasty except I wish the chicken was served warm on top with some large croutons. As a fan of Chef Jernard's show, I was eager to try some of his creations. Unfortunately, my experience at Cornbread and Butter in Grayson on Saturday was very underwhelming. To start, the menu online was replaced by an opening weekend "limited" menu. Fine, but the process to post a new menu requires minimum effort. This is the type of minor - yet impactful - operational error I hope they can address going forward. We were the FIRST table seated after a computer outage delayed the opening. Our group ordered at 11:45am. We got a side of corn bread at 12:10pm. The first entree came to the table at 12:25pm...cold. It returned at 12:35pm. The second item came to the table 12:38pm. The last order came table at 12:40pm. At best, the dishes were average. Our server was polite, but clearly poorly trained. She took far to long to bring beverages or to acknowledge the significant delays. At one point it was clear that she was ignoring our table after sensing my frustration. The manager's excuse was that the waiter was "new". Given the fact that Saturday was only their second day open - EVERYONE, including the manager, was new. Additionally, the price points seemed excessive for a small Cafe in the suburbs. One might assume that the premium was associated with the Chef brand, and definitely not the food or service. I wish them luck and hope that they train their entire staff. read more

While wait staff was pleasant, overall service was poor. There were 5 in our party. It took a little more than an hour for one of us to get our food. 15 minutes later the second one of us got theirs (which was me). It took another 15 minutes for everyone else to finally get their meal. I ordered the Cast Iron Skillet Mac/Shrimp, provolone & cheddar cheese at $17/$24 (as shown on the online menu). When I received my order the waitress told me she had to "split it out" and it came in two seperate dishes. Mac was barely warm but tasted good. Shrimp was hot and also tasted good. I also ordered one lemonade, and my portion of the bill came to $41.95 before tax and tip!! Everyone else liked their food, but it would have been nice to have eaten together. read more

Welcome to Georgia! I expected nothing less. This food was amazing. I had the Great commission chicken sandwich. It was not a dried out breast, but a wonderfully season, crispy thigh. Where should I start. This will be lengthy due to how poorly this experience has been. We sat down ordered the cornbread appetizer and dare I say it was a couple of small muffins. They were 2.50 each. With cornbread in your name, I would expect real cornbread with a beautiful presentation. Two muffins on a plate drizzled with honey that was advertised as honey butter (not even close). Our entree was 12 fried shrimp that had only 10 shrimp and yes, we counted. OVERCOOKED FRIED SHRIMP UNACCEPTABLE. Sweet potato souffle that had a pound of sugar per serving. NOT NECESSARY. I guess that is personal preference. Collard greens which I could not eat because they were full of meat. This was not stated on the menu. Creamed corn that simply not good. We have always agreed to give a new restaurant a second try, however that will never happen with Cornbread and Butter. I could not have been more disappointed with this place. Shame on you. Oh! I forgot to add we wanted to order cocktails, but the bartender had not arrived for the dinner hour. The waitress tells us she will let us know when they arrive.
