The ice cream from here was absolutely delicious! Creamy, smooth, rich and really fresh tasting. I got the Big Red Bear Tracks, which is vanilla ice cream with caramel and cookie/chocolate cake chunks with Cookies and Cream. I definitely liked the Big Red Bear Tracks better. If I could come back I would definitely try the Bavarian Raspberry Cheesecake (that I think had dark chocolate). I got there at 4:57pm and just squeezed in, they almost closed the door on the guy behind me. If you're visiting Cornell you definitely have to come here at one point in your trip! They prices are fair as well, it was only 2.19 (plus tax) for a double scoop. The reason I gave them 4 stars was that service was pretty bad. It took 5 tries to try and tell the cashier what I wanted, and at the end, he was pretty pissy. Maybe it was because it was the end of the day, but make sure you're ready to wait. The line-up was also super long, but then again it was pretty hot that day. They didn't seem to have any vegan options other than the sorbet, and you can't try the flavors, which makes it harder to choose. All in all, definitely recommend this place! read more

I should've bought some milk. It's apparent from just one spoonful of their ice cream that their milk is the secret; you can really taste the purity of milk in good dairy products. Flavor-wise, their ice cream is hit or miss (i found some of their flavors to be a bit bland), but texture-wise, it's representative of the perfect homemade ice cream (i just wish they wouldn't use carrageenan). Sticky with a slow-churned taste, but not cloying. I recommend flavors that don't have stir-ins (e.g. chips and swirls). The ice cream itself is what shines on the texture front, and the stir-ins just interfere with that texture (besides, the chips are so small that they're just annoying). Am i the only one who hates the Bavarian Raspberry Fudge? The chocolate pudding had a nice silky texture, but skip the yogurt (poor texture). I didn't try any of the cheeses because they didn't look that interesting, but i probably should have. Service was spotty, and i thought $8.75 for dry ice was kind of outrageous. But i'd say my biggest gripe is that their ice cream isn't all natural. read more

This place was probably pretty cool in 1967; an fine example for regional dairy farms of a business you could run on the side in the summer, assuming your farm had some frontage on a major rural route. It could use a kick in the butt now. The ice cream is generally at the upper end of good industrial ice cream; but it's not even close to the top of the line ice cream you'd find at a place which takes real pride in the craft. That said it's a fun detour when on the campus, and close to the delightful gardens. And, ice cream was really cheap in the store. read more

The Dairy Bar is amazing. I went back to Cornell for the first time in three years and I had to stop by at the dairy bar. I tried the Alumni Swirl in a sugar cone. It was very creamy and had nice rich pieces of chocolate in it. The berry flavor was prominent as well. The dairy bar has a variety of other flavors and allows you to sample them. It tastes home made and I definitely recommend this if someone if passing through Ithaca or visiting Cornell. On the outside of the building, there are pictures explaining how the ice cream is made in the building. They also have a variety of Red Jacket juices and I grabbed a Apple-Cranberry flavor. These juices are pure fruit and do not taste like those high fructose corn syrup juices. read more

Milky, creamy, rich, and fresh. I've only had the Dairy Bar's Cookie Dough flavor, but this was truly some of the best ice cream I've ever had. I don't remember the ice cream being this good before the Dairy Plant renovations, but this was back when I was applying to Cornell, so perhaps I was just stressed. If you're in Ithaca, make sure you stop here! To find the Dairy Bar: Look for Stocking Hall, directly across the street from one of the visitor's parking lots. When you walk through the main entrance you'll see a staircase on the left and a seating area on the right. The Cornell Dairy Bar really made my day. Sure it was already gorges (that's an Ithaca joke, probably the lamest one I could make) outside but somehow eating my kiddie cone at the Dairy Bar made the day even better. I had the Mexican Sundae flavor, which was vanilla ice cream with dark roasted "Spanish" peanuts (not sure what makes them Spanish, but whatever) and flecks of dark chocolate mixed into the ice cream. It was pretty amazing. My boyfriend had the Nutter Butter Franklin, which was also quite tasty-- peanut butter ice cream swirled with fudge. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!!! They just open it recently. I've never been into Stocking Hall before, the building is really new and beautiful inside. I ordered the Big Red Cow sundae and my friend got the blueberry cheesecake milk shake. The sundae was great and really big in size lol. My friend's milkshake was so rich and delicious that I can't stop stealing from her. They have subs and other food as well and take BRB or cornell card. Great place, definitely worth to visit. This is the best ice cream in the area. (The Cayuga Lake Creamery is second and Purity isn't in the same class.) Between the two of us, we had chocolate, french vanila, Ezra's morning cup (coffee) and cookies and cream. All of them were amazing! Definitely the best chocolate and vanilla we've ever had. I think Ezra's could have had a little more coffee flavor, but I still give it 5 stars for the creamy smoothness and perfect sweetness. Cookies and cream had plenty of oreo cookies in it. We are locals, so our only complaint is that it is not open past 6pm. Sometimes we don't decide to go out for ice cream until later in the evening. Prices are good. 2 scoops is considered a small and it's about $3. A pint is $5.79, which is right in line with other high-end ice cream brands. Parking is really easy. I'm not sure why some people complained about it. No, you can't just pull up like it is an ice cream shop on the side of the road, but there is a parking lot right across the street. They must've raised their cows so well because their ice cream is soooo heavenly creamy and milky and smooth and every bite makes you go MMMMMMM. The Bavarian Raspberry is a good mix between chocolate-y and fruity flavors while the Sweet CORNell is simply a genius way to incorporate corn into ice cream. Came here the second time to try their milkshake and UMMPHH it was so on point especially on that hot summer day. Their Strawberry Chocolate Fudge shake was the new definition of milkshake because the flavor is just so rich; it had real strawberries and chocolate hot fudge all over. I am not a fan of ice cream in general, yet I must give it 5 stars. I do go for the whatever is the special priced cone but I go to the Cornell Dairy store for many other reasons. They have excellent variety in yogurts and puddings. I sometimes buy cheese curd. I also bought some no sugar added blackberry preserves. The good deals for ice cream are in the freezer section. Buy in a pint or larger size to stay big on top quality ice cream. People in san francisco think bi-rite is so great. I'm not a glutton when it comes to ice cream but the first time ive ever had it was the first time I've ever cracked open a pint and finished the whole thing. Granted I did share it with my fiancee but that thing was gone in less than 10 minutes. We had Kahlua Fudge. I'm not a huge fan of Kahlua but this stuff seriously blew my mind. I can recall thinking to myself the moment I opened the pint and caught a whiff of the amazing sweet creamy goodness "we're definitely eating this whole thing right now."
