So I didn't have to go to work at that going out of business soon (okay not really) retail job (stock boy) at Williams Sonoma on Friday, so what did I end up doing? Going to lunch and the Corner Bakery in Redondo Beach. The Corner Bakery interrior makes me or other people feel comfy because of the interrior and it is just a relax enviroment. There is a couch there as well as plenty of chairs/tables/and booths. There is free wifi (woo hoo for check in's). As for the food, I just ordered the chicken sandwich, not to exciting, which includes their brand of chips. They also have Coke Zero too. I wanted to try some of their coffee without buying a coffee cup so I just I took a small little cup that was meant for something else and tried it to see it was okay. The tomato did not slide out of the sandwich or have an overwhelming taste that I've experienced at above mentioned competitor. How can you rate this place less than five stars? It's the perfect place for casual and inexpensive food! Everything they serve is delicious and fresh. Especially their combos if you can't decide what to get. Their salads are huge so I recommend getting the cafe size. It's ideal for one person plus it's cheaper. The baked goods are decadent and so good it's bad for you. Beware, whoopie pies are served here. Too good to resist. Now they have calories listed on all their food so you can make healthier choices. I think it's a new California Law but still it's great. Service is quick and friendly. They have WIFI for those who want to hang out. I work from home, and this spot is in my regular rotation of non-home, change-of-scenery places where I like to drink coffee and work on my laptop for about half my day. Generally, these venues fall into two categories, the standard coffee shop (the "Starbucks-Coffee Bean axis") and the fuller-service cafe (the "Panera-Corner Bakery continuum"). Needless to say, this place falls into the latter. It has all my prerequisites: easy location to get to, free parking for when I don't feel like walking, free wifi, decent coffee, restrooms, and employees that don't start giving you dirty looks once you've had your ass parked there for 3+ hours. The food is pretty good, too, and the portions are generous. The employees are excessively friendly, which is erring on the right side, in my opinion. A few negatives for those of you who are looking for a place to work or study: There are very few outlets and the internet is sloooooowwwww. Like all lunch and dinner spots, it can get very loud around meal times, especially when there are small children there. They have outdoor seating, but it's right by the road. For me, this is a four-star place, including an extra star for being located within shouting distance of my apartment. For everyone else who doesn't happen to be my next-door neighbor, I think it rates three stars. read more

Soup in a bread bowl! The bread bowl was fresh and really yummy. The soup was okay but the bread made up for it. I had the chicken noodle and would definitely get it again. Ask them to separate it though, the other soups are thicker the chicken noodle is thinner and makes the bread bowl soggy quickly. Visited the place recently just to check it out. Went there on a Sunday morning just to see what they had on the menu for breakfast. Looking at the menu I found it interesting that they had a few oatmeal selections. I chose the regular oatmeal with the dried cranberries, walnuts, and almonds and a cup of coffee. Once you order in, you receive this white plastic card with a number and you place it on the stand located at each table. Once the food is done, the server comes by and drops off the food. Really nice service I might add. When the oatmeal came, I was just blown away by the look and the smell. My mouth was watering and I was ready to dip my spoon in for a taste. A woman walked by my table as I was eating and asked me if it was good cause it looked good. With a warm smile I told her, "you really have to try it for yourself. It's just that good." With every bite was this explosion of flavor; also, the brown sugar that was added in there was mixed very evenly so there weren't cases where you got too much sugar in one spoonful. I just wish this place opened later. Probably park my butt there for late night study sessions. All in all, great food and comfy eating. Careful of of the "Sweet Crisps". The beef and I were hungry for a new place to try for lunch so we gave this place a shot. It's similar to Panera but more of a focus on lunch than breakfast. I got the 1/2 salad 1/2 sandwich deal with the turkey on a pretzel roll. I loved the bread! So fresh and soft. My sandwich came dry but had a lot of turkey on it. The salad had a yummy vinaigrette dressing. The meal wasn't huge but wasn't small. The beef got the uptown turkey with extra turkey for $2.00. His plate had the sandwich, some chips, and a pickle. I know how much my man eats and was sure that he would still be hungry, but he was satisfied by the end. The service was swift and the staff was friendly. For both of us to eat it was $22. I give this place 4/5 for the price. I felt that because they are located in Redondo Beach near Rivera Village they can charge so much for 2 simple meals. We've been coming to this Corner Bakery since we first moved to the South Bay about 4 years ago. When we lived closer we would go at least once or twice a week, but now more like every other week due to out busy schedule and it's bit further. My kids love this place! Their usual is the pesto chicken cavatappi. The entree size is enough for the 2 of them to share (age 3 & 5) and this is something that they always ask for. the place gets busy but never to the point where you can't be seated right away which I love with little kids and your food comes out usually within 10 mins of ordering. My kids especially love visiting one of the managers, Kendall. She's so sweet with the kids and always come by to check on the customers in the dining hall when she has down time. When my kids see her behind the counter they start to giggle and can't wait to see her. At the beginning, when we first started coming here, there were lots of mistakes but this was way back about 2-3 years ago. Now it seems they double check and there's always a manager around to make sure things are getting done. We love this place and we'll continue to visit... especially the m & m monster cookies! :) read more

I cant imagine how anyone could ever rate this restuarunt with a 1 star. I didn't read the bad reviews, but must have been a long wait or something. I would like to give this joint a 3 1/2 star based on the service, but 4 will do just fine. The food is wonderful, but just slightly overpriced. The restaurant is clean and very "fun" to look at. The only problem I ever have is the level of....should I say... "professionalism" of the employees. I feel like the owner sometimes hires kids based on the fact that he feels sorry for them. Don't get me wrong, more often than not, I have a wonderful experience at this joint, but its just sometimes I am baffeled by the level of "smarts" behind the counter. All in all, 4 stars is the most this place should ever get. Sometimes the food is off, but usually everything is at an A. We ate at this location when visiting the area and found it to be a cute place & very conveniently located. The first time we went was for a post-lunch, pre-dinner, I-need-something-NOW snack. I had the poblano corn chowder - rich, smooth, but not overly creamy, with chunks of potato & some nice spice & heat. My husband had a bagel (everything, I think). So up until my last three visits everything has been amazing. But I WONT be visiting again. Here's why: Bad experience 1: I ordered and everything bagel with cream chews; like I normally do; took about 5 minutes, I thanked them and walked over to work. I opened up my bagel and noticed something bright green smudged on the bagel and realized it was avocado. I'm allergic to avocado so I had to walk all the way back with only 5 minutes til I had to clock in and get it exchanged; they happily did. I got my bagel but didn't have any time to eat it. Bad experience 2: ordered everything bagel it took 15 minutes before the guy noticed they accidentally threw my bagel away and had to start over. Again by that time I only had 5 minutes til I needed to clock in so I said forget it and asked for my money back. Bad experience 3: this was today I called in my order 20 minutes before I was going to be there. Ordered the Anaheim scrambler no avocado and 2 orange juices they said it would be ready in 5-8 minutes. I Get there 22 min later, and they didn't have my order!! I noticed that the woman manager during the morning was acting like a Drill Sergeant towards girls. That is not a good management style to have. The food is very good with a good variety of selections - I'm partial to the BBLT for a meal and anything in the sweets department is yummy! What I really appreciate is they have caffeine-free diet Coke at the fountain. The setting is very homey and can easily accommodate a larger group. The service has improved over the last few visits, both with the speed and friendliness. My husband and I have been coming for years to this place for a quick dinner, good decent food. Unfortunately that quickly changed last night... they have changed their idea of service. We now have to pickup our food at the counter. Their silverware is now plastic spoon, fork and knife (wait! Aren't we starting to steer away from plastic?), their plates are obviously overused. They used plates that were chipped and bowls that were bigger that their usual portions, soup looked like it was a splash of color in a bowl! I asked the server what happened and she says, that was not the usual bowl and the serving was not a problem. Really, looks like 1/8 of your bowl had soup. It made me think that these Manager could not care less what you think. He was in the restaurant and knew of our complain. Not a minute of his time did he come and approach us. We have seen this Manager here many times but, never comes to say hello or even check on us, man has no personality. I don't think we will be back at this location. So happy I used this store recently for a large dessert order! I had been at a meeting once where someone brought one of their baked goods baskets and it was so fresh and yummy that when I needed a place to pick up cookies and brownies and such for a recent dessert for over 100 guests I thought of these guys. I went in 2 days early and the manager was super helpful for suggesting selections to give guests a choice of dessert while keeping this at a budget. I ordered, paid in advance and had my cousin pick up the order on the way to the party. The order was complete, fresh, delicious and I think everyone was happy. We had some fruit, baked goods and at the end of the evening there was hardly anything left over. And I think the order was about $2.50 per person!
