Can we talk about rudeness, WOW! Love the food but hate the bad attitudes from the staff lately.

My fiance and I love this place!! We live close and like to walk our dog there (outdoor seating, a plus!) and frequent it enough that they know what we usually order, but I must say, the past reviews are right about the service. What we figured out is it depends on who is the manager or lead person (or whatever they call it there) for that day. There is one gentleman there that ALWAYS gives a smile, ends with "we'll see you next time" and if the order is messed up in one way or another, he'll appease the situation with an extra bag of chips or a "sweet treat card". Now that's what I'm talking about!! Then, there is another manager (or again, whoever) who seems like he doesn't care to treat the customers first and always looks like he wants to go home. One time I went there to pick up an order at about 8pm (this location closes at 8:30pm, weekdays) and they were taking all of the baked goods out of the display! From our experience, its the days he's working, I can fully imagine that the other staff members take his lead and act the same way. I like this place, just don't like their parking lot. The food is fairly priced and of good quality. Their rich Europa coffee blend is pleasant. Many of the staffers are very competent and pleasant, but a few not so good. This seems to be the biggest weakness, inconsistent hiring standards. Not a bad little place to go to for lunch. I will first start by saying that the caprese flatbread sandwich is delicious, although it's not authentic Italian bruschetta it tastes pretty damn close. The sandwich in itself is very filling, very fresh and very tasteful. I recently tried the steak sandwich, it isn't too bad but I feel like the Chinese tasting house dip that they put on the side would have been better if it was paired with a chicken salad or maybe some sort of meat nachos or chicken wings type of meal. I feel that the flavors in the sauce aren't compatible with those of a steak sandwich. I think maybe the sandwich should have been paired with some sort of a swret and spicy mustard or white garlic sauce type of dip as it would taste much better with the flavoring of a steak sandwich. I frequent this particular corner bakery quite often, it used to be a decent place to eat generally speaking, but as of late there is a homeless person who apparently has free roam of the place. He hangs out on the patio with his backpack cleaning his bike and always coming in and out of the restaurant to either charge his two phones, brush his teeth in the bathroom, or just meander around scaring the bejesus out of some of the customers. I was sitting at a both with my family just recently and he came up to our table, reached across our food and plugged in his two phones, then left them there to charge. I got up and told the managers about this and they just shrugged their shoulders and did nothing. I won't be going back. read more

I work close by and EVERY TIME they get my order wrong even though I am extremely specific regarding that I am unable to have any bread or pickles on my food. For some reason, whether it is the kitchen or the people placing the order in the bag, there is ALWAYS a mistake with my order. I will look at my receipt and it clearly says No bread/ wrap in lettuce and no pickle. I've literally have had to stop them mid packaging my order to tell them that they are putting the wrong order in my bag. The food is good... but the staff needs to get it together and learn to read the ticket items and make sure every order is correct the first time. read more

I've been coming here for the past year, and never have I had a bad experience. That is, up until today. Every time I come here, I am greeted by wonderful staff who all show eagerness and friendliness. However, on January 30, 2020 I came in the morning and had quite an awful experience. A short asian woman, who, if I remember correctly, was named Rociela. She appeared to be a manager, the way she was controlling the other employees and talking at them with a stern voice. She treated her fellow coworkers as if they were beneath her. This is the first time I have seen her in a year of coming here, so maybe she is new. However, if I were apart of management I would have never hired this lady. She creates a very negative vibe and is not a good representation of the company. While her service was terrible, the food is always amazing. The lady who took my order was a sweet, young girl who was extremely patient and kind. I believe her name was Mercedes? In addition, the busser who came to my table was extremely friendly and genuine. He was a blonde/brown haired young man (late teens-early 20's). He's here a lot and is always so friendly. I recall his name being Jordan or Jose-but either way he deserves some recognition. If it weren't for the rest of these employees, I would have given 0 stars if I could. Pay attention to who you hire. Such a great company and would hate for it to go downhill. read more

I love coming to this location. The manager sometimes comes around asking if anyone needs anything and even offers samples of their chocolate chip cookies. I rarely see a manager that is so involved instead of sitting back and watching employees do the work, so it's a nice change. This is my favorite place to have breakfast on Sundays. I always get the Anaheim scrambler. I've had a few issues in the past with the avocado being almost nonexistent, so I always make sure that I ask for extra avocado. This morning my husband ordered the Anaheim scrambler for me and asked if he could have extra avocado. When I received the Anaheim scrambler at home, it only had one tiny sliver of avocado and to top it off it was rotten brown on the top (see pictures). I call the manager to complain, and he said that next time they would make it right. I appreciate the manager taking care of the issue, but I wish that the order was correct from the start. I am not sure if I will be back since this issue has occurred three times already and this time perhaps the cook threw in a rotten little slice of avocado to piss me off. I don't know why the cook would lack pride in his/her work and send off a plate that looks like there is no quality control for the produce or appreciation for the person that is going to taste the food. It's been a while since I had been to Corner Bakery. My DD (Dear Daughter) sent me on a special trip to this Corner Bakery because it was the closest one to my doctor's office. She was home sick and begged me to get her food from here so I honored the sick child's request, strolled in and placed an order to go. I was on the fence about getting something for myself to eat and contemplated their list of soups. The gentleman at the register was very congenial, knowledgeable (of the menu), patient as I quizzed him on how spicy the soups were, what they tasted like and what was popular. He kindly offered samplings of any one I wanted. I ended up asking for one-- the zesty chicken tortilla soup. I was given a pretty good-sized ladle of it to try; and here I was expecting to get a 2 tablespoon size sampling of the soup. It was very tasty and thought it would be perfect for my sick child's sore throat and cough so I ordered it. My daughter also requested the Pomodori Chicken Panini. The cashier then suggested I order the half a sandwich with soup combination for her which also came with chips. He said it would be the perfect amount for her and less expensive than if I purchase the Panini a la carte. I thought it was very nice of him to make the recommendation when he could have easily up sold me or just let me stand there contemplating if I should order everything a la carte. It turned out to be the perfect size serving for my daughter because she ate everything. She is known to always have something left over or only eat half of her sandwich. Unfortunately I failed to get this young man's name but I noticed that the rest of the staff at this location were very friendly, greeted with smiles, acknowledged their customers upon entry into the restaurant and overall pleasant. The restaurant itself was well lit, clean and has a very inviting setup. PARKING: There is a decent sized private lot and parking along the street. It can get crowded during mealtimes as it shares the plaza with another restaurant, a CVS and a few other businesses. read more

This place is chill, literally. It's hot outside today and to come in here is a relief. The AC is on and it works. It is very spacious inside and there is plenty of parking outside. It's is more than a coffee shop, ( Cafe means coffee in Spanish ), they serve a lot of different meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are plenty of treats to drink with your coffee. Reference order #86631. Very disappointed. My order was very specific on the kind of pasta and sauce. The wrong order was delivered. I called and the feedback I received was that for catering, they don't serve linguine and pesto? If that was the case then why is the option then provided to have that? Also, if they are unable to accommodate the specific order, a courtesy phone call would have been a good avenue to prevent a bad review such as this. I can't comment on the food, but the venue was exactly what I'd hoped for. I chose this place to meet with someone, have a decent sized table to work on and be able to just chat and not be bothered. It was perfect. Unfortunately I can't eat any of their bakery because I avoid gluten but for normal people, there was variety and the food looked good. The interior kind of makes me think of a Panera Bread Bakery. My friend and I bought a coffee & tea, then hung out for 2 hrs. Very good experience, very relaxed. I saw several people on their computers. Also, if you need to get gas (USA Gas), or to shop at CVS Pharmacy, or want Homemade ice cream (Handels), this mini mall has all of that right here as well. read more

The concept is interesting with respect to service but it is far from sophisticated. We went for breakfast and since I couldn't see the menu from my place in line I looked at the menu that was available, which didn't actually have everything that was listed on the board. We ordered several things of which I had the fruit parfait and part of the Anaheim scramble. After securing a table, the waitress comes and delivers most of the things and takes the number away. After some thought I said "how is she going to remember what she still hasn't brought if she takes the number". Lo and behold she never came back with the scramble or the iced latte ordered by Armin L. Eventually it comes after Armin hunts her down but then the iced latte doesn't come. After Armin hunts her down again he gets a normal latte with whole milk instead of soy (which is unenjoyable for him due to the fact that he really shouldn't have whole milk). So eventually he gets up yet again and gets an iced latte from the front. The Anaheim was really not as delicious as its description and was a serious let down. The potatoes that came with it were rubbery and I decided to not even try the toast. My fruit parfait had a really small amount of yogurt and there was an eyelash on the bowl which made me not really want to eat it (it could have been mine...but I'm still skeeved) The decor is nice but that can't mask the subpar service and bland food. I would rather go to IHOP and here for breakfast and based on other reviews I won't lie and say perhaps I should try lunch instead..I just won't be back. read more

I went to this Corner Bakery (CB) once with the BF on a Saturday night when we were searching for dinner options. He had never been to one before, and I had only been to CB once for breakfast, but that was more than three years ago. The restaurant looked pretty empty, and when I told him that it was pretty similar to Panera Bread, he agreed to give CB a shot. Because there was no line and the restaurant was quiet, we got our meals in no time. The bakery treats looked amazing behind the glass display case and the restaurant itself was pretty clean. When it comes down to it, I think I still prefer Panera Bread just because their prices are slightly cheaper for what you actually get in the meal. Regardless, I did enjoy my meal here and would come back to try the other mac & cheese options because I really liked what I got! Here's what I would recommend, as well as items I'd like to try: "Pasta Combo": I got this combo during my first (and only) visit to this Torrance location because I was absolutely craving mac & cheese! Though I felt that CB's prices were a little steep for what you get--definitely felt more expensive than competing Panera Bread--I still very much enjoyed my mac & cheese. For this combo, you can choose a Café size hearty pasta with either Caesar Salad, Mixed Greens or Bruschetta Tomato Salad. I opted for the traditional Caesar Salad--which came topped with toasted croutons and a decent amount of Parm cheese and Caesar dressing--and the "Bacon Tomato Mac & Three Cheese." This mac & cheese definitely made the meal! It featured pipette pasta tossed with applewood smoked bacon, diced tomatoes and a blend of three cheeses, and it was topped with toasted bread crumbs. I asked for no tomatoes in my mac & cheese, and I really liked the creamy, cheesy texture of the dish (gotta have strong cheese when it comes to mac & cheese). Though the dish didn't include as much crunchy bacon as I wanted, I still enjoyed the slightly saltier taste, and the meat added an extra element to the dish. The toasted bread crumbs provided the perfect finishing touch on this comforting classic. I would definitely get this combo again, if not the mac & cheese by itself. "Peanut Butter Whoopee Pie": I had the pleasure of trying this whoopee pie when it first debuted, and though I normally stay away from such treats cause I don't like too much filling in my sweets, this treat was a definite win! These whoopee pies are made with delicious buttercream filling sandwiched between two rich cakes. They're available in vanilla buttercream, pumpkin with cinnamon buttercream, and peanut butter flavors. The peanut butter option is definitely for peanut butter fans, as the filling is reminiscent of creamy peanut butter. The exterior cakes were moist and soft, almost seeming to melt in my mouth. I'm so glad I tried this treat and I'd definitely order it again! "Cookies": When I get a free bakery treat for my birthday, I always go for one of the CB cookies, which are moist, tender and chewy ... just how I like my cookies. There's a good variety of flavors available -- old-fashioned chocolate chip, sugar, oatmeal currant, monster, snickerdoodle and toffee. While the toffee, chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies always look appealing, I always go for the M&M option (which I'm guessing is called the "monster") because they really don't skimp on the topping here! The cookie itself is fresh tasting and tender, and I love how it's generously studded with the m&m candies! I'm sure I'll try some of the other varieties at some point, but I haven't been able to deviate from this favorite of mine just yet. "Chicken Pesto on Ciabatta Ficelle: I love sandwiches that include pesto spread, so this entrée is right up my alley. It features all-natural chicken, arugula and tomatoes with our and spicy house vinaigrette and pesto mayo. Though I'm not the hugest fan of arugula, I would probably give it a try because it's the only veggie in the meal (once I take out the tomatoes), but I'm excited to see how all of the elements pair with the pesto mayo and the house vinaigrette, which supposedly has a slight kick to it. Yum! "Loaded Baked Potato Soup": When it comes to soup, if there's some kind of baked potato option on the menu, that's my go-to. This version comes topped with cheddar cheese and green onions. I would get my soup without green onions (exactly how I order my baked potatoes) and ask for extra cheese on top instead. I've never ordered this soup yet, but I'm hoping it comes with generous chunks of potatoes and a creamy broth. read more

We came to have our meal, and an order was placed at 6:15 (it took a long time to order because the cashier had difficulty applying the coupon we received in a CB email). I tried their new Grilled Flats, Southwest Chicken flat to be exact, which was totally not full of flavor as it advertised. I wasn't happy with my order; there was nothing special about it. My friend got the same order and felt like she wasted her day's worth of calories on this. I also got the bundt cake, and I wish I didn't. A grocery store bundt tasted the same or better than this item. The main thing I liked about my order this time were the chips and pickle. Came to have breakfast for the first time to Corner Bakery and it was great experience. The menu is simple and small but has enough too have variety of selections. I had eggs and pancakes with homemade hot sauce that gives it a kick. Pancakes were really good as well. Service was was excellent. Their is plenty of parking so that will not be an issue here and seems like their is plenty seating inside or outside. The issue is my experience was ruined and expectation of service was not met. She obviously didn't see eye to eye when I made that comment.
