Dear Hubby and I go way back with Corner Bakery. As noted in my old review from 2016, we used to take our Adored Grandson there when he was growing up. He loved their pasta dishes, and it was a great way to fill up a young human that was hungry and ready to eat. It was a place where we could all enjoy different dishes we enjoyed in a family-friendly atmosphere. We have certainly been back a number of times since 2016, although not so much the last few years. After a recent doctor's appointment I was feeling the need for some comfort food. I was in the mood for soup & sandwich, so suggested Corner Bakery to DH. When we entered shortly after 5:00 p.m. we were among the only patrons in the restaurant. It did start to fill up gradually while we ate. The cashier was gracious and helpful. Our interactions with her were about the best things in the visit. There were some festive decorations up for the holiday season, and I appreciated that. The music playing wasn't celebrating Christmastime, though. That felt like a miss. The biggest miss was the quality of the food and the outrageous price for said sad food quality and presentation. DH and I each ordered a half sandwich and bowl of soup. That came with either a small side salad, tiny bowl of fruit, or piece of bread. He went for Caesar salad, and I asked for the fruit. As for the soup, they only had tomato or chicken noodle without dairy. There was also another choice that didn't sound appealing. I wasn't feeling the chix soup option, so went with the tomato bisque. Bad choice. I didn't care for it at all. The taste was very sharp and acidic, and it has an overly spicy finish kick that I did not enjoy. After only a few spoonsful, I offered the rest to DH. Okay, so I have half a sandwich to savor, right? Well, what arrived was the smallest chintziest BLT I've ever seen served in a restaurant. The bread was tiny in overall size. A few pieces of wilted lettuce, one slice of out of season tomato, and one piece of bacon. Minimal in the extreme. It had virtually no taste, either. Very, very sad sandwich. Essentially I had a tasteless mini sandwich quarter (not really a true half size of normal portion), some grapes & melon pieces, and two spoons of soup. I did enjoy the seasonal Gingerbread Chai beverage, made decaf with oat milk. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie, which was just okay. Not nearly as good as I remember their baked treats being in the past. DH had his half sandwich, cup of soup, small salad, a small fountain drink, and a mini bundt cake for dessert. This "feast" (ahem!) with tip was almost $60. Unreal! And a terrible value for mediocre food. This is not the Corner Bakery we remember. Not even close. To lighten the mood, while we were waiting for our meal to be brought to the table (you order & pay at the counter, get an order number and place it at the table you choose for yourself and they bring out the order) DH was scrolling through his phone. I told him, "Honey, at this price this is a full blown date night experience, one way or another, so could you please set down the phone and let's have a conversation?" We both laughed and he complied. Good grief! My brain was spinning about how I could make a similar meal at home with much better ingredients and outcome. The cashier was friendly and helpful, and the food was decent with big portions. We like their pastas and salads, and got the Pick 2 deals with Pesto cavatappi and Chicken carbonara pastas, with the Loaded baked potato soup and Cobb salad. The flavors of the pastas were very good (without being overly creamy/salty), but the pasta itself seemed overcooked. The salad was very good and fresh, and the soup was okay, it had a slightly odd, sour taste. A lot of items on the menu for the Pick 2 combo had a Premium symbol next to them that was hard to see, which was a bit misleading since all these items were extra charge. This is somewhere you can expect good solid food. Ordered the Anaheim Panini without meat and the dragonfruit arnold palmer. I felt the panini was a little small, but it was delicious. The arnold palmer was pretty good, but tasted a little syrupy or artificial due to the dragonfruit. Overall though, for a normal comfort meal, you can't really go wrong with Corner Bakery. read more

This Corner Bakery is a few minutes away from the 101 freeway. This was the midpoint from the road trip the hubby and I were on so we stopped here for lunch. We placed our order at the counter with the courteous cashier. We found a table to sit at on a busy Sunday afternoon. I usually get the "choose any two" items so this time was the half club panini and Caesar salad. For my side, I chose mac n cheese. Food is 3.5 stars. The mac n cheese is good but could always use more cheese. Hubby had a tomato mozzarella half sandwich w/Caesar salad and tomato bisque soup. Also about 3.5 stars. I have been here 3x and all 3x times the emoloyees have not greeted me. I'm standing there waiting ...and nothing. As they continue to just do stuff around me. I don't need them to stop what they're doing and help me if they are busy. I need them to acknowledge me so it's not weird. A "hello", "be right with you", "hey super busy give us a few". Food allergies are a serious matter. I ordered a pomodoro w/o chicken and w/o pesto sauce. I told the lady taking the order that I was allergic to nuts, so make sure no pesto. After eating half of the sandwich I saw that it had pesto sauce. Thankfully the pesto was made with pine nuts and not walnuts. I'm allergic to both, but pine nuts don't require my Epi-Pen. I took my food back up there an told her they put pesto on it! She said "I wrote down no pesto. I'll go make you another one w/o pesto." She then proceeded to bring me 1/2 of an overcooked pomodoro. So....their answer to a potentially life threatening screw up, was to replace 1/2 of the sandwich. I go there every Wednesday night with my craft group. I was in Corner Bakery today and ordered a ham & egg croissant. It was one of the must awful things I ever ate. I could only eat half of it. This is what the sandwich tasted like: the egg was powdered egg and was not cooked enough so you have powder stick to your teeth, the ham was so sweet it was like dessert, the croissant was soggy. The worse of it yet is after I got home a have severe case of diarrhea . I think I should report the restaurant to the health department! My only issue: every time we order takeout for 5 to 6 people one item is missing from our order or the entire order is not placed at all. Oh, I remember the days when the bfast sandwichs had thick cuts of crispy bacon hanging out of thr bread along with a healthy portion of egg. Today, I stopped by for a quick breakfast sandwich and nothing has changed. Actually has gotten way worse from my last time. The bacon, felt like the tiny fatty bacon you get in a mcdonalds big breakfast. It's definitely a different vendor or something. Its BAD! The egg portion was so smallthat it didnt fit the whole bread sandwich. Now,i also added avo to it and I believe there were 2 tiny spoon slices. The portions have gotten ridiculous. Not a fan. Found 2 gift cards that I got in 2017 and decided to use them for lunch. After ordering we were told that they aren't able to accept gift cards because the machine isn't taking them. With the price of breakfast at the Corner Bakery we might as well have gone to a full-size restaurant and had a real meal. I got the all American scrambler, and my wife got the Commuters croissant. Both tasted like the scrambled eggs, have been sitting in a Buffay pan for hours along with the potatoes (all 15 pieces) in the bacon that was barely done. For breakfast food you are missing half your clientele by that time. The food presentation wasn't that great, but the taste was decent. Arrived at lunch time to find the only available booth still waiting to be cleaned. I went to the counter, asked if someone could please clear the counter and within minutes, it was wiped and clean. I ordered the spinach salad, a refreshing option with fresh spinach, grapes, mandarins, strawberry slices, cheese, and crumbled croutons, which appeared to have been made out of their crisps.
