So many places I go to act as if they are doing you the biggest favors in the world if you ask for a martini. Not here, however, and it was very good! Wine and beer prices very cheap. The burgers are served on paper plates but I am a knife and fork eater - they had silverware when I asked. Very simple menu, pretty friendly unpretentiousness crowd, They were courteous and I had a happy feeling when I left. Cash only - there is an ATM there. Good jukebox too. Very good for late night eats and drinks. Although the menu is small, the burger is very good. I ordered it medium and it was done perfectly. I am a longtime New Yorker. It is what it is and I expect nothing more. They have easy quick food for an afterwork meal. Very basic Bob's Burgers type menu. Prices have gone up slightly so its almost too expensive for how mot amazing it is, but not quite. And has a no frills bar with a couple taps. The burger was very good (I had cheeseburger) and the fries where very crispy and yummy. Not the most amazing experience but definitely good enough for a casual (the food is served on paper plates with no cutlery) and tasty burger dinner with friends! The restaurant was pretty crowded and loud but the tables are small so you sit pretty close to each other. Only major downside is that they had absolutely nothing for my vegetarian friend and where definitely not willing to cooperate and even make a salad. Also it's cash only! read more

Dark interior of a pub - usually filled with prepped out guys who want a beer, burger while watching the game on TV. Completely no frills - the menu is short but perfect. It's really funny to read some of the mixed reviews. The Bistro has a great history, unchanged decor and one of the best bargains in town for a burger and a beer. In the 17 years I've been in NYC, this place has not changed and thank god! i am new to meat and have been traveling around the city eating burgers like it is my job. (seriously, can i get paid for this?) this was where i had my first burger upon hearing it was home of the best burger in the city. and it is pretty good. cheap, fast, the fries are tasty. the bistro burger is the way to go: a thick patty with cheese and bacon. though, hate the wait. dislike the crumbly bun that disintegrates before i finish eating. i live around the corner, so it works for me in the afternoons when the place isn't packed or on those lazy sundays when i walk by and the smell of burger draws me in. read more

Arrived around 7:45 on a Thursday night, and hopped in the relatively informal "line" that accumulates in front of the bar. The jack of all trades waiter/host did a decent job of figuring out how many people in each party in order to quickly turn tables over. We ended up waiting around 30 minutes before getting to the front of the line, but we decided just to sit at the bar. Bistro burgers were cooked perfectly rare-medium rare as requested. The burger was delicious, and I would say that it compares favorably to any of my favorites in the city (JG Melon's, PJ Clarkes, Shake Shack). The bacon on top was quite crisp and added great texture and flavor. My one complaint was that the fries were undersalted. Great and friendly service. read more

It's all about the experience here. Where else can you wait in line ordering $2 beers, chatting with strangers, and getting nice and toasty for a good burger. Not a great burger (I've had it without the benefit of a few McSorely's) but a solid burger. Excellent fries too. Great place to go with friends -- a perfect hole in the wall -- exposed brick, dim lighting, frighening bathroom -- and one of those evocative New York standbys you have to check out at some point. read more

I understand the vibe corner bistro is going for. It's very no-frills. I had always wanted to go. We got lucky on a saturday night, because we (party of 5) got seated as soon as we came in. Burger was delicious, and I am critical, but it was not the best I have ever had (Royale! go there!). Anyway - fries were also delicious. I kindof wish they wouldn't use plastic plates though - so wasteful and honestly so sloppy. Anyway, everything is really cheap, and there is no menu (they're on the wall) so basically you better know what you want, and it needs to be a burger or some kind of greasy food. This is a very good burger joint, but not the best in NYC in my opinion. They have a cool, quiet dive-y type vibe. Old wooden bar, cheap drinks and cheap food. The burgers are cooked well and the fries are solid. I don't think it's the nearly the best burger in NYC though - for that you must travel elsewhere. The flavor of the burger is pretty generic and frankly I am not a fan of you-have-to-open-your-mouth-as-wide-as-you-can-to-take-a-bite burgers. Call me crazy, but I just don't need that much burger. I liked this place, but I was lucky-- I got in before the crowd, and didn't have to wait for a table. TEN MINUTES after I sat down, the place was packed with a line out the door. It's funny how I was so excited to try this place one day until How I Met Your Mother made fun of it and then I was like, no thanks. What was I thinking? My friend who is also in love with burgers said I should skip Shake Shack and she would take me here instead. The burger was cooked just how I like it. It really is about the meat and it almost melted in your mouth. It must be hand ground, right? I have no idea. The texture seemed like they would just grind the meat in the back and my the patties themselves, avoiding the use of frozen patties that always have a funny consistency to them. This is just me assuming though, so don't take my word for it. I guess I could do some research but am feeling too lazy and would like to believe it's hand-ground in the kitchen! This place is absolutely amazing, unpretentious and quick with an order. Its so awesome I even met Kiefer Sutherland there. The Bistro burger with bacon is my order along with a McSorley's light. Its a great place to relax during the day although the waiter tends to get antsy if you take up a table and don't order drinks as frequently as he'd like. When its not as crowded its pretty quiet but when its packed and games are on it can get pretty tight. I gladly put up with these things to get a delicious burger for a very very affordable price. read more

well, no kidding it really was no-frills... but huge thick beefy patty, cooked to the perfect pinkness, for the price, it's a very generous portion. (i could barely finish the burger) i ordered the bistro burger with fries and mcsorley ale, huge meal, wouldn't have ordered fries had i known the burger's that huge. i was super stuffed by the end. the value definitely exceeds shake shack, not to mention the lack of miserable lines. but i think the meat could use just a bit more seasoning? i thought i had a light taste as is, i barely put salt in any food, but the burger was on the bland side even for my taste. (ok i had it with bacon so it's not bad, but i imagine the regular hamburger must be really bland) but despite that, the ambiance was nice and cozy, the staff was very friendly, and service was very fast. for any place that i couldn't find the heart to tip less than 20%, it deserves better than a 3 star. read more

Corner Bistro was one of the first places I went to when I moved to New York 7 years ago. What an amazing introduction to the New York burger scene. The burgers are cooked perfectly, the flavor is meaty and delicious, and the fries - those taste like bacon. Which is what everything should taste like. Also awesome is that they have a full bar with cheap drinks. My ooooonly gripe with this place is that there's often a pretty hefty wait. And when you're craving a burger, a long wait just won't do. And if I had to pick a second gripe, it would be that the massive size of this burger makes it difficult to eat like a lady. It usually ends up falling apart before I get to the end. But I guess that's a small price to pay to the burger gods for such excellence. read more

Corner Bistor is an unaffected neighborhood spot with amazing burgers that are a bargain! It's great for late night munchies after going out in the west village or meat packing district. The food is good- but this is kind of a dive. Wait times to get a table can be long depending on the day/time, and they have a limited menu. I've only ha the burger and fries here- Get the bistro burger! The burgers are really juicy. And FYI the chili burger comes open face with chili all over the plate... Which means you have to eat your burger with a fork and knife- by the time you get half way through the burger bread is soaked. Shocked at the 4 star reviews here. Five guys is a much, much better burger. It's cozy and a fine place to pass a blizzard (my situation this weekend), but not a destination for quality food. I had a "grilled cheese" which was reminiscent of third grade. Wimpy, flat, sad lil white bread sandwich. The burgers were HUGE (like, couldn't fit in your mouth huge). I only had a bite of a friend's, but was not missing out. It's cheap and cash only, but that's about the only perk. Even so, you can get a better burger at a similar price at Five Guys, Bare Burger, Shake Shack, etc etc. They serve everything on snack size plastic plates, so if you're environmental-conscious, you probably won't like it. read more
