It's now a week later. The pop-ups are all fixed and we also needed a new sand filter. The old one was leaking and was fifteen years old. We are really very happy with Shawn and his crew. They are pricey at $1,267 but a three year old federal law will not let you replace a pool motor that goes bad with a $300 replacement motor. (Like me, I'll bet many pool owners are not aware of this.) I checked around and prices were the same with other pool companies. Those companies did not have valid contractor licenses with the state. For a price over $1,000, Arizona law requires that the work be performed by a licensed contractor. I went on www.azroc.gov which is for the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and through a search there found Always Clean. The installation was great and it took him a little over two hours including the training of how to use the computer system it has. You can spot a true professional by how accurately they can perform a repair or install task. Also, they can troubleshoot any existing problems with ease. Todd made it look easy. There is no way that I could have done it. When your kids or grandkids swim in a pool you want absolute safety. Hiring a licensed contractor is worth it.

We have found that all fixes are very reasonably priced and the work done expeditiously, we have never had to call them back about work completed. We bought a house in Tempe and CAM Pools was servicing it, so we continued with them. After some…read morebig storms, the pool was a mess. [Added later: CAM's own report had photos showing it was a mess, but these aren't apparently reviewed by the owner.] CAM Pools didn't do much to clean up, and never told us hey, you need to pay more for storm cleanup. They basically left it to us to unclog the vacuum robot and clean up which we did as best we could. The chemistry was also very bad, as we found out later. The pressure on the pool filter was also way too high. [Added later: CAM's technician dutifully sent us a photo showing the pressure at 28 psi, but never told us that was bad.] That's all fixable, but they broke a tile (covering a skimmer basket) and never told us. Not great. But why they get only two stars is when I called the phone number in the "we cleaned your pool" email to cancel our service, the owner was positively mad at me for canceling without giving him a chance to fix the issues. He was angry and blamed me for not calling him earlier. He never apologized for these obvious problems or took responsibility. He wanted to yell at me for daring to complain without having called him first. Hard to believe that his company messed up and his angry reaction was that it was all my fault. [Added later: Note the owner's responses are "I'm sorry you feel that way" not "I'm sorry my company messed up." I hung up because he wanted to continue to argue with me about how I should have given him a chance to fix these problems. I was done with CAM and had every right to cancel without explanation. I never asked him to fix anything. If he really has a recording, I hope he posts it.] Contractors make mistakes. That's part of the territory. But blaming and yelling at the customers is not good. Maybe he had a bad day, so he gets two stars instead of one.

Final pre-resolution update…read more I find it bizarre that an individual who was adamant that I not let Leslie's know that they had mistakenly given me a $200 part for free (I questioned the warranty transfer and while Leslie's said I was due the part Aaron explained at length why I wasn't but told me "don't sweat it, Leslie's is a big company,") alleges and infers I was out to take advantage of a small company. I have zero desire to take advantage of anyone, and I also have zero desire to let anyone take advantage of me. I do know that it is not uncommon for those guilty of something but not wanting to admit it to deflect and distract. And if one reads what I wrote vs. what Aaron did, along with some appalling grammar and spelling (including my name) there are a lot of personal attacks and unfounded accusations. All I will say at this juncture is that I repeatedly tried to resolve this amicably and reasonably, I was not ecstatic about the work, I hoped despite some hiccups that it was solid, a LOT of my own time has been wasted on this (which certainly feels like I was and am being taken advantage of, because I'm not ok with the current state of what's in my yard as a result of this "company," and I am 100% not ok with them sending someone I've never met to do work they don't guarantee, explain or support,) and at this point I wish I'd dealt with a bigger company in the first place. Note-I wouldn't have been at Leslie's in the first place hunting down the part if the tech from Cool Pool's had had the part he promised. And after a third trip to Leslie's by yours truly (and another conversation with them about the warrantied part bc I wanted to be sure the employee who supposedly mistakenly comped me the part didn't get in hot water bc it retails for $200) I really was at my wits end literally working for the pool company who was supposedly doing a job for me. We didn't notice the decline at first. Things were maintained to an acceptable level and the team (Amelia in particular) was super responsive. Then, things took a sharp turn for the worst. Our pool started showing signs of pool algae. I had to bring this to the attention of the owner and he confirmed they would shock the pool. Little details down to simply not skimming, leaving the waterfall on, in and out within 5-10 minutes and I had enough. Attached are images of how they left our pool. The owner was quick to point blame on us, while admitting that yes, indeed, they had changed technicians. Avoid this company and seek services elsewhere. We have different standards of service. Colin and Amelia are gems and I wish this business continued success. It's too bad we had to part ways on such disappointing terms after such a wonderful beginning.

My advice stay away from this incompetent pool service.
