As was stated by most other reviewers here, this place was empty! My boyfriend and I stayed at the graves 601 for a post-valentine's day staycation and came here for drinks after our dinner elsewhere. It was about 1130-midnight on a Saturday night so I figured it would be busier, but there were only 4 other people in the place. The decor is modern and clean, nice music in the background, very classy atmosphere without making me feel awkward. Our waitress was polite and attentive. The drinks were delish and strong, I got something with vodka and citrus called the cosmos-politan or something to that effect. My boyfriend got something with whisky and champagne which he liked. We split the truffle popcorn which was popcorn with truffle oil. Not bad. The best part was our waitress bringing us complimentary champagne cocktails at the end. She said they were trying out new recipes and she wanted to know which ones were good/bad.... I was already one strong cocktail in, but they tasted great! I don't know that I would come venturing downtown just for this particular bar, but I would stop by if I was in the area. read more

Cosmos restaurant at the Graves Hotel downtown Minneapolis is certainly one of the best places in town for an upscale, trendy night out. We went there recently for a birthday dinner for my brother, who is a huge foodie. While they were not as busy as I would expect for a Saturday night (only about half of the tables were full), the food and atmosphere was great. As a table, we decided to try a lot of small dishes from the menu and all share them. We started with the Seared Foie Gras, which I consider to be one of the best in town. My family then tried the Poached Artichoke Hearts, which were also a hit. My favorite dish of the night was the Grilled Romaine - there is something about lettuce that has that smoky grill flavor that is just delicious with the unique fried dressing with which it is served. I also tried the Slow-Poached Sea Bass and the Swedish Meatballs, both of which were fantastic. Cap off your evening with their Chocolate Bomb! While not a place that I could go to every evening because of the prices, the food and ambience at Cosmos is perfect for a chic, urban night on the town. read more

Simply put, amazing! It was a slower Saturday night and there were only 4 or 5 other tables in the entire restaurant. The staff did a great job of spreading everyone out and really driving home the idea that it was almost a semi-private event. An amazing wine list combined with the tuna tartar appetizer got things rolling. And from there I ordered each of us the 5 course tasting menu with a wine selection for each course. As the name implies, this place is simply out of this world. No matter what you were up to earlier in the day, you'll feel as if you've been teleported to the heavens here. The service is simply amazing here. Do ask for Adel to seat you, he's fantastic and really is there to treat you like the star you are. He has charm to boot and is a wealth of knowledge on all the finest things in life. Do start with drinks in the bar/lounge. The décor has that clean cool look with enough manliness that makes you feel just oh-so sexy perched upon a high stool. Indulge in the spectacular specialty martini and cocktail menu. No overly sweetened juice mixes with barely any alcohol served here. The Pom martini and Asian pear martini are to die for and after only one you'll start seeing stars. Start with a constellation of appetizers. The Ahi Tuna Tartare, which alone is tantalizing, comes complete with avocado ice-cream, such a treat! Don't forget to order the Fennel Pollen Crusted Diver Scallops, so tender it'll make you cry, served with the most amazing Beluga Lentils and Chorizo paste. If you've got the room and are feeling extra special, order the Bison Tenderloin Carpaccio too, because you deserve it. We doubled up on each order for a party of 5 though since plates are meant to look pretty and not too crowded with food at Cosmos. For dinner, you might as well close your eyes and point to something. You simply cannot go wrong. I started with Roasted Baby Beet Salad only because I can never say "no" to beets, especially not these babies. It's not a typical salad, and although it could have used a bit more goat cheese than the small smearing plated underneath the 6 beets and a few more sprigs of arugula, the spiced pecans were a sweet addition. I also had the Grilled Angus Beef Tenderloin, which was done to melt-in-your-mouth perfection, and served with an equally amazing blue cheese potato gratin and crisp asparagus. The wine list is as expansive as the skies, ask Adel what to order if he hasn't already told you. He chose a delightful bottle for us that somehow managed to magically pair well with Tenderloin, Grilled Maine Lobster, slow poached Chilean sea bass, and pan seared duck breast. I wish we had had room for dessert. But the check comes with marvelous chocolate truffles, which was enough to satisfy our sweet tooth. Certainly Cosmos is a place to indulge on special occasions only, but if my bank account allowed I would be here every other day! read more

Definitely a fun, delicious experience. The amuse was so-so (pepper, cheese and apple a little heavy on my palate to start) Ahi tuna was salty, but in a yummy way. I really enjoyed this dish with the avocado ice cream and spicy mayo. The foie was a disappointment for me - seemed exciting with the hot/cold duet. The seared piece was much better w/ the caramel. I found the texture and crust of the torchon far too nutty and melted. The salad with the mozzarella balloon & heirloom tomatoes was super fun and yummy. The cheese was tough (surely from being plied to accommodate all that basil foam) but was forgivable b/c it was inventive and I want to eat it again...great dish. The intermezzo was FAB - apparently only the chefs of WD-50, Alinea and now Cosmos are doing this kiwi/pop rocks amazingness. SO SO great - flavors & experience was very memorable. My standout was the rare seared watermelon - loved the concept, spice of the dish and warmth of the watermelon. Cheese course was so so. They could do a lot more with it. Desserts were all good - especially loved the semi freddo creme brulee. Really, it was both. So fun. Great wine list. Bottomline: tasty, fun food. great, knowledgeable, passionate-about-food service. beautiful space. Pricey, but worth it for a "molecular gastronomy" influenced treat in MPLS. I'd go back! read more

Hidden away upstairs in the Grave Hotel, the bartenders at this treasure know how to mix up a tasty cocktail. I had a fab drink that I forget the name of, but it was the perfect mixture of makers mark, mint, lime soda. In fact I liked it so much that I went back 2 nights in a row. It fits n perfectly at this dimly lit boutique hotel. 99% of the patrons were likely staying at the hotel, but if you're in the know, this would be a hotel bar worth visiting based on the quality of those drinks. read more

My fiance and I went in on Christmas Eve. Don't judge! It was probably the best Christmas Eve, ever. Sorry, family, I love you, but even my mom's cooking can't compete. Every cocktail was expertely executed and unique. Our server was fun, laid back, but still professional and obviously knew what he was talking about. By the end of the meal, we just had him pick drinks for us. But I'll get to that. First, we decided to get small sizes of lots of things so we could try as much as possible. We started with the Seared Ahi Tuna (fennel salsa and grapefruit? YES, PLEASE!) and Shaved Asparagus Salad. The tuna was better than the salad, but I still loved the salad. The cured ham on the salad was really strong, but they didn't put much, so it was a great accent. We also chose to do a Malbec with our food...after resolving that we'd have more cocktails after the meal. There were so many more we wanted to try! For our second course, we got the Slow Roasted Artichoke Heart and the Duck Confit Risotto (a special for the night). I can't describe how amazing the risotto was! I could eat it every day for the rest of my life (which would probably be short if I did, considering the consequent heart attack....). It was that good. They obviously use fresh herbs...we asked, and yes, they grow their own. You can tell. The roasted artichoke heart was much better than I would have anticipated. I'm not a huge fan of artichoke, actually, so me liking it says something. I think there could have been more sweet potato gnocci to balance the tanginess of the artichoke, but again that could just be me not really liking artichoke. Also, the sweet potato gnocci was amazing and should have been a dish all by itself. I loved it! Next, we did 'meals'. My date got the Berkshire Pork Loin - it was to die for!! SO tasty, so flavorful, perfectly prepared. We were SO impressed. Surprisingly, the glazed endive added a lot to the dish...it didn't have any of the bitterness endives can have, and it was SO tender. I was a little bit of a pain, and ordered one of their specials (the bacon wrapped sea scallops on a bed of lentils) but I modified it (got it without the bacon). I know, I'm weird. I like bacon, just not with my scallops. Stop judging me. Anyway, not only did they humor me, they also added another scallop to the dish (I assume to make up for the lack of bacon). That won me over, if I wasn't already. Cooked perfectly - crisp on the outside, not even close to over-done...just succulent. The lentils sounded weird to me, but I can assure you that it was incredible. The texture difference between the smooth, buttery scallops and the more dense lentils was incredibly enjoyable. Finally, we ordered dessert. I was way too full for dessert at this point, so we got another cocktail each to buy me some time. We couldn't decide what we wanted, so we had the server pick for us. He chose well! He came back with a Lychee Martini (if you've read any of my other reviews, you know I LOVE Lychee) and a Raspberry Lemon Drop Martini. Both were amazing. Perfectly balanced, not too strong, but not weak. The Raspberry Lemon Drop tasted like fresh squeezed raspberry lemonade. Wow, this review is getting long. Anyway, I was finally (not really) ready for dessert. We ordered a Ginger concoction (I can't remember what it's called). It had ginger foam, a thin ginger crisp, and a ginger sorbet type thingy. I didn't know what to get with it, so I had the server pick me another drink. It was incredible! He chose a passion-fruit martini, I didn't get the exact name of it. I wouldn't have put the ginger dessert and passionfruit martini together in a million years, but it was a heavanly combo. As for the dessert, I love ginger, but I really despise dry, powdered ginger. They did an amazing job - it tasted like fresh, young ginger all the way from the foam to the cookie to the sorbet. Just an incredible night. I first went to Cosmos during restaurant week for dinner. I did not know what to expect and was blown away. The food was creative, well thought-out, and well executed. I went back with my family for a special occasion (my choice) and was not disappointed. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. I agree that there were some elements that might not have been done perfectly, but this was still a stellar meal all around. I think that the food is exceptional, especially for the price. I live in San Francisco and have paid far more, at very well-known restaurants, for far less quality and creativity. Plus, the drinks are excellent! After living in Minneapolis for 4 years and trying a lot of different restaurants, I think that this is the best restaurant in Minneapolis, bar none. read more

We came here last week after our long weekend vacation to Taylor Falls/St Croix Falls. Well, the nice hostess apologized that we missed Restaurant Week so gave us a coupon for 2-for-1 taster's special. We got a three course meal starting with a thin shaved tuna over a small toasted slice of bread then a tomato soup which looked a little weird with a clear broth and flower petals and slice of pickled strawberry. Afterwards, we had a shot of cherry explosion which was a preserved cherry in sweet liquor. Finally, the main dish was a pork tenderloin cooked to perfection with a corn-meal based side. It tasted more like mashed potatoes which was kinda surprising. Overall, I was very surprised that Cosmos was very accomodating. Also, we lucked out with the parking which we were going to do the free valet but the country music event made it impossible. The valet apologized for the valet service being unavailable since all parking spots taken up- only for hotel guests and no longer restaurant guests. So, we circled and found a coveted parking space nearby around the corner and paid for a couple of hours. Not a bad way to spend a long weekend in a fancy restaurant with a new age twist. read more

Meh-it was pretty good food, but the environment was weird and the bench I had to sit it was too low and uncomfortable. They have a deal going on where an appetizer, entree and dessert at $35, which some people at the table had. They appeared more satisfied than I was. The drinks were expensive, but worth it. I was really impressed with this place. Especially because we went for NYE 08 and being vegetarian, they basically had to adapt the set menu for me. Instead of receiving the normally imagination-challenged vegetarian options many restaurants serve, each course was prepared with distinctive, elegant and flavorful ingredients. The only reason this place received 2 stars instead of measly 1 is due to their tasty mojitos. We recently brought some out-of-town guests to Cosmos as it came highly recommended. Arriving later than the rest of our party we found they had already ordered appetizers for the table. Though they had ordered one of every appetizer they offer our group of ten was a little put off when the appetizers arrived since they are 100% meant for one person. Not sure why the waiter decided to keep that to himself. Oh wait - he had plenty to say about it when we all looked at him a little annoyed. I could not believe the snotty comments that just kept rolling off his tongue! From there on out it was a mediocre experience punctuated by slow service and the waiter leaning over to me when he presented me with the bill to inform me, "Tip was not included." Thanks asshole. A wonderful find being from LA and NY that I could enjoy something beyond Applebee's and Hard Rock while in Minneapolis. This was my 3rd trip to the cities and the previous two I ate at Chamber's Kitchen and 20*21 and I'd have to say that Cosmo's is my favorite of that. The decor is great and you feel like you are inside a tree...without being themey. A pretty decent winelist and good drinks. I did the tasting menu and the main of each course was scallops, then ahi, then beef, then chocolate...with an amuse bouche, cheese course and intermezzo. Overall each was wonderful; however, some of the flavor pairings were a bit off. The ahi was wonderful with a nutty crust; but, the 3 random shrimp and bitter bok choy really didn't compliment it or needed to be on the other side of the plate. Likewise the bit of bleu cheese with the steak overpowered everything else. The rasberry sorbet was SOUR beyond belief and took away from how delicate the souffle was. read more

I've now visited this place a half dozen times and just when you think it can't get any better, it does. Starting with the wait staff, which are very knowledgeable and friendly, you truly get a culinary experience. From the chef's amuse bouche to the starters, right through the intermezzo, and into the entrees, you will not be dissapointed. The suggested wine pairings are wonderful as well and don't leave without testing the pastry chef's creations. I usually take my teams here and we always order the Waygu beef as part of the starters. This isn't American waygu served at other wannabe places, this is the real thing, complete with a certified expiration date. So treat yourself! And try the Ahi Tuna entree and ask for the explanation on the preparation. You will be amazed and then in heaven. This is one of my top 3 restaurants in the country! read more

Came down for breakfast and the place was empty. With all the open space, the next couple that arrived was sat 5 feet from our table. Waiter arrived and offered coffee and orange juice. We were not offered cream for coffee. Cosmos breakfast and 3 egg omelet nothing spectacular. Waiter brought water to table as we were paying bill. Bill was $63. This caught me off guard. They charged $12 for the pot of coffee and $8 for a small glass of orange juice. read more

You've heard about the food. You've heard about the outrageously glam space. But have you heard about the bathroom? By far, the sexiest, most perfect public bathroom in Minnesota. Cosmos is great place to go and drink a $12 martini or an $18 glass of Champagne (sorry Ela!) and then go take a whiz in the bathroom. I am sure this is the sort of thing that rich people on the coasts take for granted every day, but in Minnesota, there is really only one Fort Awesome A++ and that is Cosmos. read more

Interesting dinner here... Ordered the Yellowtail for dinner alone and after 20 minutes of waiting, the server/bartender (older nice guy) told me they were out of yellowtail. He also padded it by saying they will let me order any entree and comp it since they neglected to tell me for so long. Talk about a great way to make up for the issue! I got the salmon hoping for a healthy filet of salmon. And the beet salad because it has BACON. Salmon was delish in so many ways, but VERY rich and heavy. This thing must be like 2000 calories because it comes Cheesecake Factory style... super crispy and buttery tasting on the outside and moist and flakey inside. It was honestly incredibly flavored, but way too rich for me. The beet salad was wonderful! All in all- this review is mostly a thank you to the server who carried up my dinner to my room after he knew I was waiting for a while. He delivered it with a smile and was super nice. read more

In the same area as Escape, Cosmos is definitely a little more low key. They have a good wine selection, but overall the drinks are way overpriced. They also offer very good food. It looks very rich and swanky which is a treat in Minneapolis. read more

Fresh ingredients and good flavor though a little spicy.
