Not recommended for Males. I got a haircut here yesterday, my appointment was for 4pm and I sat down around 4:25. I don't mind waiting, but I wasn't expecting to have a rushed haircut. I asked to keep the top long due to a cowlick in the back that makes it stick up. I also asked to have the sides blended. My hairdresser did neither of these things, as she told another customer as they walked in that she was running behind and would be right with her as she was working on me. I just got violet highlights in my hair! I had Louisa and she is just amazing at her job. Both her and her coworker were sweet and personable. These two hairdressers know the perfect amount of conversation with their clients. I noticed how they try to accommodate their customers up until the very last minute just the two of them. They accepted a last minute man for a 7:30 when the shop closes by 8:00 and no complaints. These ladies really do make an effort for their clients. read more

I can't believe they don't have their own Yelp with people reviewing this place so far. I just got back from a cut, I always go here instead of my normal location when they send me the coupon for the $12.95 cut which is normally priced at $15.95. I seem to get these every 2-3 months which is nice, I can justify driving the extra 2 miles for $3 off (hey, that's the difference in a tank of gas these days, people!). Every lady I've had has been pleasant to deal with, sorry I'm not good with names. The longest wait time I've ever had was 5 minutes, tops. Quick in and out, haircut and a shampoo takes no more than 20 minutes. They are professional and accommodating, making sure your needs are met with the size of the guard for the razor along with asking if you want your ears/eyebrows trimmed as well. Not a five star joint so no five stars, but easily four star for what I've experienced in the 5+ times I've gone here, definitely recommended! read more

At the sacrifice of sharing a terrible picture of myself online, I will go out of my way to post it here just to show you what my hair looked like before I decided to got to Cost Cutters to save it. I ran a race with a loose braid that went down to my buttocks. During the run all of my hair got teased and tangled up in a rat's nest (if you are a runner, you know what I mean).It was a disaster. I called Coast Cutters crying and Elana quickly reassured me that I can come in for at least a consultation on how to save my hair. Her and Tammy under-promised and over-delivered. Both of them worked on this tedious job of untangling my hair for over an hour, saved every single strand and smoothed it out. During the process they joked and made me laugh - I was so happy that I reached out to them. They were very considerate and reasonable in the amount they charged me, as well. I was disappointment with the customer service. I arrived at my scheduled appointment , when I entered nobody approached me, I was asking one of the employees when I'm going to be treated and she kept saying in a couple of minutes. I waited 20 minutes and then a lady that came after me and I heard her saying she has an appointment later than me was called to get treated. I asked the employee why is she being called before me even when it was clear that her appointment was later than mine, she replied that I didn't setup an appointment for her specifically. After that I just left feeling disgusted from their behavior. I would expect them to be more respectful to people's time. read more

Second time in cost cutter, my daughter decided to cut her own hair and the stylist Emma was amazing! Extremely patient and was so kind to my 6 year old. She took her time and cared about my opinion and talked to me of her options. I would absolutely bring my little girl to her again and recommend her. I would give her 5 stars. The one thing that I disliked is that my six year is sitting in the chair and the adults around her decide it's a good time to talk about the school shootings. Danielle and Julie worked together on my color and extensions - the color match was perfect and the extensions were expertly put in for. Fraction of what you would pay elsewhere. This review is for some one else that use to go there. Your appointment time means nothing to them. You walk in a few minutes early and no one even asks for your name and if you have an appointment. So you tell them who you are and that you have an appointment. They say " okay just a few minutes". The "few minutes" can be as much as an hour or more until they take you! In the mean time they are taking walk-ins and starting them before you! This seems to happen everytime. When you question them about it they don't really care and give lame answers. When she started she stopped in the middle and didn't finish his hair she said she couldn't complete it!!!!! and when I asked her what we should do know she said if I were you I wouldn't cut his hair now!!!!!!!! Horrible service, I had originally scheduled an appointment 1 week in advance, got there and had to wait 40 minutes past my appointment to be told that "I had never been checked in", and that the person doing my hair wasn't going to be able to do it. Yup, 5 stars! If I could I'd give them more. Years ago I went there, never wrote a review (I should have), back then I went to Anita. She gave me the greatest color and cuts. I got very ill for a long while. Then I moved away. Recently I returned back to Medford, got ripped off by a few salons. Then, I remembered Cost Cutters. I gave them a call, got an answering machine. Not feeling good about that. 45 min later I got a call from Maria. She was so warm and friendly and apologetic about the answering machine. I made an appt with her for the next day. During this phone conversation I asked her how long she has been cutting hair? She said, "awhile". Well, this woman totally does not give herself enough credit! She started @1pm, she spent over an hour with me. Checking out my hair, discussing texture, I showed her a photo of what I was thinking about. Well she pulled up many photos on her phone, and we decided on one. When she was done it was beyond perfect! I could not be happier. Years ago I would go to Newbury St for my hair. Now, I came out of Cost Cutters with the same quality and style as a high end salon! A wash, cut, blow dry style was only $29.95!!!! Of course I gave Maria a tip, which she deserved more. I got my hair shampooed, cut and styled. The woman did a good job. I'm happy with my overall cut, but I doubt i'll be returning here. With tip I ended up paying $46 for my visit. I don't exactly consider that a cost cut. I was charged double the advertised rate for my cut. I had to inquire why my bill was so high at the end, and she said it was because my hair was long. It would have been nice to have been told this before sitting down. I would not have gotten the shampoo and styling had I known. The actual environment made me a little uneasy. It wasn't condemnable, it was just the kind of place where I wouldn't want to touch anything with my bare hands. Dust building up on every surface, that kind of thing. There was this garbage can that was against a wall in the store where the trimmings were deposited in to. It was very unappetizing and needs to be hosed out. There was a big wax pot displayed on a shelf for eyebrow and lip waxing. The outside of the pot was covered in old wax with grime stuck on. This was one of my more aggressive cuts. I'm used to the hair dresser's finger jabbing me on the side of the head once or twice, but this was constant, plus a not so great burning sensation from the blow dryer. I get it, accidents happen. The woman doing my hair was talking to someone else who worked there telling her that I wasn't "the one". She then described this girl she had in the other day as "the blow dry from hell". Ok the place may be small, but honey, you can keep your swanky chairs and fancy art when the cut in decorating costs are reflected in my final bill. I pay WAY less than the 2 bills it usually costs for me to get a cut, style, eyebrow wax, coloring AND highlights. And my hairstylist-well, my 40 year search for one who takes into consideration of my hair type, lifestyle and face has happily ended. Lucette not only has an extreme sense of what compliments my persona and body/face type but has to be one of the most congenial persons I've met-her effervescent personality is the adult version of the lollipop at the end of a child's haircut. After being out of work for 4 months, I went in for a color and cut. Sheri told me that highlights would look great with the color she chose for me. I agreed and I was so happy with the end result. However, the only thing that bothered me was she had to leave me, and what she was doing, to answer the phone that was located at the front of the salon! I've been going to cost cutters since I moved to Medford and am so happy I found the place. I was hesitant at first because I have never had much luck at these kind of low cost haircut places, but the girls that work here do a great job and are always friendly. The prices are ridiculously cheap, $16 for a basic cut and they send you coupons for another $3 off every time you need a cut on top of that. I would've haven this less stars if it wasn't for me finding one women who actually gave me a shot at doing my hair here. Coming from a darker color, I came into this salon about 4 different times throughout 2014 and once in 2015 asking to go lighter (and if I had the exact names of these people i'm referring to, I would name them but I don't know their names) they seem to be the lazy staff that works at this time of day (afternoon), to be specific. The two young ladies never made efforts to bring my hair lighter. When I came back with light hair they still seem to have an excuse telling me "I can't get any lighter for my shade or they don't feel comfortable doing the job". It just aggravates me to know that they say all of this without even trying or taking a better look, maybe a test strand? They just don't put in the effort and for me that's very poor customer service. I wasn't coming in there with unrealistic expectations and after being seen at another completely different salon who already did the dirty work (bleached it all out) they still seem to have excuses. Wish there was more women who actually had the passion to do hair and try new things for their clients. Thanks to Annieda I have given the stars.
