I live closer to the Carmel Mountain Costco, but I prefer the one on Tech Center because it's not so crowded, there's a gas station and a car wash! It's also right next to Home Depot, my husband's favorite store! With a growing family of 5, everything I need I can pretty much find at Costco. I can even feed my family of 5 for under $25 in the food court! I know my money goes a long way at Costco and I don't have to deal with all the people since it's pretty quiet at the Tech Center location. Parking is hardly ever a problem! read more

I love Costco! Especially this one. They have everything, Gas, Tires, Food Court, Optical, discount tickets, passes and everything in bulk. Their meats are really good cuts and if you're looking to feed a group, this is the place to go. Membership pays for itself after a few trips. Instead of listing other Pro's and con's, Ill just list what I normally get here. Alcohol, snacks (for the office and home), prime cut meats, jumbo shrimp, hebrew national hot dogs, Angus burger patties, muffins, oatmeal, movie tickets, spam, kings hawaiian bread, bacon (thick cut), beer, camp gear, and the list goes on and on. Come mid-day and they'll have samples ready for you to try. But be careful, thats how they get you! COSTCOOOOO! What can I say? Large quantities of everything. Their selection of various products are good and their prices are fit the mass quantities of things you buy. I had to develop some photos and the process online was very easy. It gives you a time frame and if you needed it sooner calling in they usually work with you. My first time I was a little disappointed because I had logos printed at the bottom of all my images. Went to pick it up and most of my logo was cut off. I even used their crop online. So I had to resubmit my order or bring in a flash drive. We're talking over 300+ prints different sizes. I didn't want to do that. I resubmitted my order called in the next day and it was ready by 11am instead of 2pm like the order online said. I went through the order there because I didn't want to make the drive back over and over. There was a couple that was cut off at the bottom, but Jason who was handling the printing was very nice and helpful. He didn't give any attitudes or anything just told me that it's going to take 10 to 15 min because the printer was printing a job already. That's okay. He ended up printing a couple of time until I was happy with the outcome. I appreciate it. read more

Pros: + Australian (grass-fed) lamb + Some Organic fruits/veggies + Friendly staff + Great customer service (never been to a Costco where they haven't had excellent customer service though) + variety of alcohol (beers, spirits, wines) + Parking is always available + Sells propane (lowest price I've found anywhere in SD) + Can order food from the food court when checking out inside and pick up your food outside + Wild seafood when in season Cons: - I've seen more local craft beers at other Costco - Bay Area Costco has more organic produce - Gas station line is always long - After getting your propane filled, you take a receipt inside to pay then go outside to pick up your tank. The employees are always friendly and willing to help, infact I am in here so often many know me by name. I love the spacious parking lot, large gas station that's typically the cheapest of all the Costcos in San Diego, and especially the car wash! This location introduced me to the fact that some Costcos run car washes. The lines for food and checkout are typically shorter than the other locations (most likely because it is further away from the interstate). I live in an odd spot where all the Costco locations are almost equal driving distance. This one is the one I'd prefer to go if a car wash or gas fill is needed. Check it out! read more

Costco in general ranks among my favorite stores but his one in particular has a serious problem. Some of the people who run the returns section have a serious attitude disorder. You would think that their pay get docked every time you make a return. They are definitely not friendly and always grill you on the reason for your return. After 20+ years with Costco Tire, it is time for me to go somewhere else. I will still be a loyal Costco member, but I will shy away from the Tire Center. My decision came from several not so great experiences. It is difficult get to get any prorated credit if tires are worn out prematurely. They always look for excuses not to give any credit. They tried hard to tell you that the premature wear is due to the problems with the car and not due to the quality of the tires. If you don't go there to rotate every 7500 miles and the tire wear patterns are not perfectly uniform, forget about the credit. They refused to rotate my tires because my front and rear tires are 3/32 different (their policy requires 2/32 difference). No one told me that when I bought the tires that this is a condition for tire rotation. Sometimes the line is long. The experience is so different from the Costco store where the customer is always right and the return is so easy! read more

It's always so enjoyable to visit the Costco in Poway. There are "acres" of open parking spots; after all, Poway is the "City in the Country." I have discovered that if they no longer carry a particular item, you can always find it at another Costco location (like the one on Carmel Mountain Road). Terrible customer services. I called and provided the product # that I was looking for. The person who answered the phone indicated that they have plenty that are available. When I arrived, I could not find the product on the floor, so I asked a Costco employee who happened to be there for help. The guy checked the computer; where the computer listed that 14 of the that items are still available within the location; but instead of helping me to look for them, he told me that there are none. When I pointed to him the computer screen where it indicated with 14 still in the warehouse, and that the person who I spoke with earlier also confirmed it, he then said it was missed information, and demand for the name of the person that I spoke with, and if I can't name that person, he won't be able to help me. That is the type of service I received from this Costco - Poway location; after being with Costco for over 30 + years. We needed to get to Costco as our neverending supply of toilet roll was running low and we were scared there would be a world shortage. The Carmel Mountain Costco was crazy, not a space to be found at all. I brought up the YELPS and found this one. I did not know there was a Costco in Poway. We located the store- its behind the Home Depot and found that there was masses of parking spaces. Walked in the store, it was clean, it was tidy and even though it was a Sunday it was not busy! Best Costco experience to date. I did not once get rammed by someone's cart or elbowed by someone at a sample table. I also had my first Costco Car Wash experience and I was highly impressed. $7.99 for a powerful wash! It got the majority of bird crap off my car which is much more than I can say for other car washes. The price of gas wasn't that great. Only 4 cents/gal cheaper than my favorite Arco. Not worth the massive wait in line. The layout of the store was a bit confusing for me but I still managed to blow an obscene amount of money. The aisles are much wider than down in my part of town, and even more than the Carmel Mountain Costco, so I had a better shopping experience here than other locations. So what I will say is this: Having been to costcos all over San Diego, I like the Poway Costco the best. It's a little more inland so if you don't live around here, it is a bit out of the way for you. But, that is the best part! Parking is easy. Lines are shorter. There are less people leaving their carts in the middle of the road while they try to get a sample and then proceed to ask stupid questions about the product. Just take and leave. Also, the customer service is the best. I generally don't have to return too much stuff from costco, but I do love their 100% satisfaction guarantee. We usually do shopping here and the workers are usually pretty nice. My girlfriend is a proud EMT and thank costco for prioritizing health care workers except your front door worker Kristen. My girlfriend showed her the necessary license and id to confirm her profession. On the way out, Kristen pulled us aside and told us we needed a "real badge" with photo on the badge. My girlfriend showed her issued license and Kristen was straightforward saying it was fake. That is not something you say to a health care professional who is risking their life, especially in these times. She's not one to speak up about these things. As far as Costco locations go, this is probably one of the best. It's far enough away from residential neighborhoods that its not always jammed packed. It's in the middle of several business parks so it can provide a cheap meal to many of the corporate sheep working nearby, sadly, I too am one of those sheep. It's a brisk walk from my job, but it can be done with enough time to gorge on some of the many sample offerings. Food court lines are not usually out of control, unless of course schools out and its the holidays. read more

Love love Costco! It's one of my favorite places to shop because you can find just about everything and they have great quality items for less in price. This is my favorite Costco location in the county. It's got great stock and selection and isn't as crazy crowded as others can get. They also stock high quality items, especially organic foods and grass fed meat. I love getting the australian lamb here and they often have wild caught seafood as well. They've been recently adding to their collection of organic fruits and vegetables. This Costco location also features a Tire Center, Propane gas, and a car wash. The propane is such a good deal here. Need to fill up your bbq tank? Just bring it to Costco! The process is so easy and cheaper than buying a new tank. The car wash is cool too. It's an automated drive through one, so it's not the best car wash but it does the job if you just need a quick wash. It's only $8 and they use high quality industrial parts to clean the car. You pay at the self-serve kiosk and just hand the attendant your receipt. Put your car in neutral and enjoy the ride. read more

This is a little less crowded (I say the term loosely) than other locations because it's in a business park setting. I only come here if Carmel Mt. is too crowded, as it's a little out of the way. It's like all of your other Costco locations. There is a gas station and tire center. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because I don't like to go to Costco on the weekends, but traffic in Poway/Scripps Ranch is bad during weekdays that, in order to avoid traffic, I have to come on weekends, but then hit the "Costco traffic". All around one of my favorite Costco locations in San Diego.. The location is somewhat inconvenience if you don't live in Scripps or Poway, because it is so far from the freeway, but if you do it is a one stop shop. Plenty of samples, nice store layout(most are pretty much the same) ... They have good tire center and are one of the few that have a gas station which is much cheaper than the competing gas stations. They have a lot of pumps, but theres always a long line to get gas. They also have a car wash. Overall, it really cant get much better for a costco. read more

As you can tell, I come here a lot...mostly to get gas since gas is so fricken expensive everywhere else, and it's the closest Costco to where I live. Just make sure you come here when you have a lot of time (and not running on E), since everybody and their mom gets gas here and there tends to be a long line of cars waiting Seriously this place is great. If you're hungry, come here for the samples, but make sure you come here before 6pmish on a weekday and before 5pmish on a weekend, otherwise you'll miss out since they start cleaning up. Of course, you can always go to the food court and get a hot dog and drink for only $1.63. I really like that they have a self checkout here so I can get out faster than I came in. I did mark off 1 star because the last time I came here, they closed the self checkout right when I got there because the attendant lost her zapper thing and the lady was all moody about it with me. It's a better deal than at the optometrist-I save fifty dollars (woo-hoo) but they take over a week? WTF? I'm having headaches and difficulty driving, Costco.
