Atkins was recommended by a friend who grew up in Waxahachie. We were met by a cheerful staff and server Cassidy. I have lived in Grapevine for the past five years and have been looking for a "fresh" seafood diner and market ever since, without success. I'm happy to report, my search is over!! We were informed that Atkins has access to fresh seafood (through a relative with a boat!) from the Gulf. Our servings of Calamari, Lobster Roll and Salmon were exceptional!! You could pay a lot more at other places and not enjoy the quality of the seafood we had here. They will even prepare the raw shrimp they sale in their market, to your liking (P&D, tail on-tail off, etc.). Atkins is well worth the drive and I can't wait to return for the crab cakes and fish tacos!! read more

Service was friendly. The seafood was delicious. Really wasn't expecting such good seafood inland. We had fried shrimp, shrimp bacon Caesar wrap, cajun crab legs, and shrimp burger. You could also buy fresh market seafood. Don't leave without getting dessert. Wow. We have lived in Texas for five years now, and I will say this is the best seafood place. I have been to so far. I got the red fish Poboy, and the fish was cooked to perfection. We were a little hesitant in ordering the New England clam chowder Because we are from the New England area. We know what good clam chowder is. But they claim they made theirs fresh so we gave it a try and we were not disappointed. It was very good. We went there around 5 o'clock on a Saturday night and there was plenty of seating. The weight staff was super nice and super friendly! It is also a bar so there are TVs with sports on it around the seating area and the bar area. Overall, this place is a 10 out of 10. The service and food here are always great. And if you don't know, their fish is always fresh and based on what the family fishing business brings in off the gulf and their local suppliers. We had the Fish and Crab Cake combo with spicy friend Redfish, and the Fish and Shrimp with fried Redfish and fried Shrimp. Both were awesome as always, the hushpuppies were good, and the drinks were great too. We had never had the Ruttin' Buck or Red Snapper drinks before, but both were really, really good. I would highly recommend getting a real drink instead of just ordering beer. You can get that anywhere. Atkins is small, but also has a great patio, and the food comes out pretty quick so the place turns over tables quicker than you might expect. With that said, they never rush you and it's a great place for a date night or dinner with the family. read more

Atkins and I've Fort Worth on occasions. But tonight was the exception we happen to be in Midlothian and decided to grab a lobster roll to go when we got there. We saw there was room for us so we told her we had placed an order to go, but we really would like to eat there. She was very accommodating. Once we sat down, the manager came over to us and informed us that we were taking up a table from one of his waitresses and that next time we won't be able to sit there and eat our food after we've ordered to go. We said nothing they brought us our food. We ate ordered a tea. And because we had already paid for our meal when we ordered it to go, we left five dollars on the table for the tea. We had already left a tip. The manager chased us down in the parking lot to pay for our tea. When I went back to confront him about the humiliation, he had caused us. He would not come out of the kitchen to talk to me. This is the only recourse I have I hope the owner Trace Adkins reads this message Jerry was the manager and I'd appreciate a response. read more

Nicole was our server and she was very good helpful and friendly. She checked back periodically to make sure everything was OK and if we needed anything. My husband had the fish of the day piccata style and it came with vegetables and rice pilaf he said it was perfect. I had the salmon and I got to pick two sides and I picked vegetables and garlic bread. Both were good. The salmon was OK nothing to write home about. I had a hurricane drink and it was different than what I was used to, but OK. My husband had a draft Yuengling which he has had before and likes it. So we were visiting our son here in Waxahachie one Saturday and decided to dine in here at Atkins before heading back home. The inside is pretty small and with that being said it can get loud, especially if there is a sporting event on. The service was a bit on the slow side that day, but it was packed, so I will give them that. The wife likes this place and but when I took my food to go and finally ate it when I got home, there was nothing great about the food. It was average at best. It reminded me of Aw Shucks in Dallas and I don't like Aw Shucks. This place gets a lot of business, so someone likes their food better than I do. read more

I guess I didn't write a review of Atkins Seafood when we had lunch in the prior location. I have to say that I had a little rush of nostalgia for it when we were seated in the new place. Missed the fish on ice staring at me, I suppose, and that feeling of ceiling space. It's been a long time ago, I know. The new place is nice; but seems already out grown. Seating was tight when we were there on a weekday in the middle of the afternoon. A party of five big men was seated on the stools facing the big windows and they didn't seem too keen on not getting a table. The aroma of fried fish won out probably as they all took their precarious seats. It was way too hot for the patio. Everybody was staying put. It was loud. It was slow. And ultimately, my first crab cake, when it finally came out, was sadly, grossly undersized and undercooked as compared to my husband's. I asked about how loose and Mayo-ey it was and the waitress sent it back. The second one was perfect! A truly tasty firm crabby crab cake. However, I still wasn't real happy with my nickel size fried oysters. I was worn out from the crab cake discussion and didn't ask what kind they were. They actually were crispy mini taste treats and not overcooked. Still, $15.50 later and I was not, you know, feeling it. On the other hand, my husband chose wisely. His combo basket ($18.75) with fried Cod- one of the fishes of the day - and a crab cake with Cole slaw, onion rings, a hushpuppy and Remoulade was absolutely delicious, he said. The Cod was firm, flaky and the batter crispy, not greasy. The onion rings were also very good. Our waitress honestly was overwhelmed at times. But I liked her and she was doing her best. I'm sure the food must be prepared fairly consistently or Atkins wouldn't be as busy as they always seem to be; but I left disappointed. I would like to mention the Atkins Seafood Store, though, which occupies the old space at 300 Ferris Ave. We dropped in and they still have the same wonderful fresh and frozen fish for sale and services to offer. read more

Straight up the best fish and shrimp I've had in Texas. A bit pricy, but no exaggeration they know how to cook some fish, shrimp and salmon. Excellent meal all the way around and the best Buffalo shrimp anywhere completely saturated with Buffalo sauce, perfectly crispy and delicious sweet potato fries. Good service, good shrimp appetizer. We sit outside with a heater and the inside was packed. The "spicy fried" fish was seriously the best cooked great seasoned and fresh tasting. Even the fountain diet Dr Pepper tasted great and for me that's usually not the case for fountain soda. This is the 2nd time my wife has been here and she bragged about the nice portion of salmon on her salad and how perfectly cooked and seasoned. My husband and I come here once a month or more. He loves seafood and I'm a vegetarian so finding a restaurant we can both eat at is trying to. If anyone asks me for a good salad in Waxahachie...it is hands down here. The salad has berries, feta cheese, and almonds. The servers here are always gracious and friendly. So it is now 2021 and Atkins Seafood is still killing in the kitchen and customer service! I always get the blackened fish basket and they usually have a mixed veggie side special that I get with it. Along with hush puppies, which are delicious and a sweet tea. They typically have a great dessert as well. On July 6th they will be moving just up the street to a new and slightly bigger building! So keep your eyes peeled for that move and remember. There is a lot of construction going on in the area right now but I think they may finally be almost done! Tried Atkins for the first time. It wasn't the easiest place to get to with various roads shut down in Waxahachie and the parking is limited and spaces are small. The place is also small- we were lucky to get in when we did because it filled up pretty quickly. They are moving to a new location though! The new place is easier to spot (sorry Hachie residents, your hidden gem isn't going to be so hidden anymore) and looks like there will be plenty of parking. The menu is decent with something for everyone. I saw a burger option for those that don't like to eat seafood and plenty of seafood and non seafood options for kids. Something I did expect to see: the Gulf Oysters. Something I didn't expect to see :Blue Point Oysters!!!! Love having the option to eat oysters that don't taste like mud :) My husband got half a dozen and they came with the standard saltines, horseradish and cocktail sauce. I went for the Scallop potato bisque. it just sounded interesting. It was creamy and savory. Even though it was 95 degrees outside and not at all soup weather, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Atkins was the most authentic dining experience I had on a recent trip to the metroplex area. I'm not talking about regional cuisine experience, I'm talking about hospitality and good people experience. Texas really isn't much different than California which their large restaurant chains and the same fast-causal restaurants that are found in every other state. This place was different. It was packed with locals who loved to srrike up a conversation. We met a few locals who loved telling us about how many Californians are moving to Texas. Gumbo was subpar, very watery, and the sausage tasted old. My fried okra half cooked half raw. Our blackened po boy came out cold with the sweet potatoes fries. Their hushpuppies were good, and their fried fish batter was decent. The server tried fixing our food but we just let her know that it was cold. She brought us a complimentary dessert to apologize. Dined on a Friday afternoon around 2:30pm, ordered the large fish basket w/2 fillets. Included 1 hushpuppy and 2 sides (fries, grilled veggies). Initially, was shocked @ the price ($18), but figured the portions must be huge. Nope. After a 20-minute wait, my food arrived. The veggies (diced zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes and onions) were the best thing on the plate, followed closely by the hushpuppy. The fish was fresh, but the portions (for the price) were marginal at best. I dunno -- maybe they were imported from Midlothian. The peach cobbler was tasty but soupy.
