Every once in awhile we like to go here. Food it'self isn't anything amazing just some basic home cooking. I had the breaded tenderloin. It's big enough for 2 buns. The "sausage" gravy had no sausage in it and the cup they gave me was extremely small. Omelette was small too and the veggies not only weren't cooked at all but were actually still somewhat cold. The Country Café is a nice little diner in Lafayette, IN off SR-26 near I-65. I like patronizing small, locally owned businesses as I travel. The Country Café is one of these and gets competition from nearby Denny's, IHOP, Cracker Barrel and McDonalds. The breakfast we had there was quite good. I two eggs over-easy, smoked sausage and hash browns with sourdough toast. My wife had two eggs sunny-side up, hash browns and rye toast. The portions were ample and the eggs were cooked just right. Not surprisingly, Country Café doesn't accept AmEx. The cost was very reasonable and our waitress was attentive. I'd recommend going to the Country Café in you're in Lafayette or traveling on I-65 and looking for some good diner food. read more

Kind of hard to find because it's a small building and there isn't much signage. I ordered the Country Skillet and the Rodeo Skillet, to share with my son. Didn't care too much for the gravy cause it's too rich for my taste, but both skillets were delicious. Best part was the service even though it was just pick up. In an area of chains, I found this great family independent breakfast place with very tasty high cholesterol American breakfast cuisine. Busy but short wait, not a single skinny person in the place. They serve grits, but they aren't that grit savvy, it only comes in a bowl like oatmeal, you can't substitute grits for hash browns with egg orders so it's not like an actual Southern food place, but everything sure is delicious. Coffee hot and stimulating, service personable and efficient from our main waitress, however the teenage or college age boy helping her forgot some of my order at the window (I almost got up to get it myself), and spilled a little more than I thought he should. I sucked a solid meat like substance threw my straw so I checked the bottom of my cup which was full of same said substance . I do not know what it was because the waitress said she would bring it back and tell me what it was but told me she couldn't identify it , threw it away, just came back with a discounted bill . Visited today at around Noon. Sundays are the only day that we have been and it is always busy. We have always been able to find a seat, though. The staff works very hard to turn the tables over quickly. Portions are alwaya big, food is good and the prices are reasonable. We always enjoy coming here. We decided to spend some time between games with a teammate and her mom. Our waitress seemed very stressed and shaken up, so we stayed paying attention to the scene. This poor woman was working hard. All over the place trying to take care of most of the tables in the place. I then noticed another employee degrading our waitress and telling her she wasn't doing enough. Trust when I say our waitress was working HARD. Our waitress came to our table and we assured her that we saw her effort and that she deserved to be treated better. When she stepped away to help another table, the other girl was openly discussing our waitresses "failures" to another lady. I spoke up at this point. The other mom and I let the girl know that she was being very rude and unprofessional and we felt our waitress had done a great job. She then walked over to our table and began to justify her comments. We let her know that if she truly had something to talk about, it shouldn't be done in front of our waitress OR US. Our waitress was near tears, still running around trying to do her job as the others bullied her and sat back and watched her work. Stopped by here one day while in town and had to come back before heading back home. It's a "seat yourself" system and the servers were so slammed, non-stop both days I was there. I was impressed with how well they handled it. I still got great service, and the food came out in a timely manner. Prices are low compared to competitors. I got a whole Chicken fried steak meal (potatoes, eggs, toast), coffee, and a small pancake for less than $14. Really glad I found this little gem! read more

So good I snagged a to-go menu to read for pleasure at home! I got the blueberry pancakes and sadly, I think this is one of the VERY FEW restaraunts in Lafayette that make homemade batter. I stopped here for lunch as it is near my hotel in Lafayette. It's a good but not great diner, but don't come for dinner because they close at 2:00! Ambiance is casual and service staff was good, but they gave me grief for paying with my Amex card, even though sign said they accepted it! Oh my, how this place went downhill fast. You were once better off driving past IHOP and Denny's to go here. Now, you'd be making a big mistake. They used to offer good food and good service at a competitive price. Nowadays, you're lucky if your server speaks just enough English to get your order correct. Then there's the common decency factor, which they wholeheartedly lack. While eating my botched breakfast order, I watched a guy wearing a political article of clothing. It was clear said guy received even worse service than we were getting. No matter if I agreed with his political views or not, he shouldn't have been treated different than anyone else there. We finished up shortly after his table and we're both in line to pay. Even the damn cook came out to give him a dirty look and, by the snicker on his face, I have no doubt that dude got spit/urine/fecal matter served in his food. Aside from the drastic decline overall, the way the staff treated someone of differing viewpoints was unacceptable. The way I see it, you've got about a 50/50 chance of the cook spitting in your food. And that's hopeful you get the correct order to begin with. read more
