We stopped there on our way to Palomar mountain. This place seemed like the only place to have quick food. Because we were new in the area we wanted to go simple and tried their Hot Pastrami sandwich; it was a great choice. You can customize your food, and they start cooking after you ordered. It is not reheated sandwich. That's why it takes time but definitely worth it. We checked the next shopping store while waiting for our food. New to the area, stopped in to try for lunch. Clerk suggested so I ordered hot pastrami on rye. 15 minutes later, after seeing the sandwich sit on the prep counter for at least 5 minutes, one of the four employees noticed and brought it to counter. THIS WAS THE LAMEST EXCUSE for a Hot Pastrami sandwich I've ever encountered. The meat amount barely covered what appeared to be the ends of a rye loaf... must have weighed about 2 oz. and they had the audacity to charge $7.00 for this insult. And they call it a "deli"... pretty sure no one there has ever been to a "real" deli, and all the "positive" comments... likely they are teenage friends of kids working there. Someone there needs to go restaurant school, learn the trade and stop giving the locals such a poor over priced excuse for an eatery. Slow, poor product, far below par service SKIP THIS PLACE. I'm only leaving 3 stars because this usually doesn't happen. I called in an order 17 mins before I arrived at the location and I was told it would be ready waiting for me. I arrive and nothing. I sit and wait for another 25 mins for a simple ham sandwich. There were 5 other people in here with their food already, so I don't understand how a simple ham sandwich takes 45 mins to make when I was told 15 mins. Then when I confront a worker I get hit with very unneeded attitude when all I asked why did it take 45 mins to make a ham sandwich. Great lunch spot for a Saturday drive before stopping at local produce stands and filling up your car on the reservation property (i.e. about 1 dollar cheaper per gallon...score). Well, I stopped in there a few times and this is the second time that I have had a lady yell at me for my order. I asked for a Bacon lettuce and tomato with avocado, but no bacon and the lady was very confused about this and yelled at me because she didn't know what I wanted. I basically wanted a veggie sandwich. No meat. How hard is that, I thought it would be easier. The two old ladies just have a very bad attitude and ruined my morning, who yells at a customer for trying to order food? I was in the area for work (yes, wearing rubber gloves) to fix a problem with a public works customer and called in my order due to COVID-19. Had an amazing experience at this place. First, food was great. We got a chicken salad, a garden salad, grilled cheese, and French fries. All delicious. But.. my favorite thing was the customer service. We had an unknown birthday girl in our party and I ran to grab some delicious cheese cake. I asked if there was a candle and they searched the whole restaurant until they found it. They then brought it to the table and sang happy birthday to her. It was awesome. read more

I love the crinkle cut fries and Ortega chicken melt. I've tried a few other sandwiches but always come back to the ortega chicken sandwich on wheat toast. We discovered this deli while house-hunting 11 years ago - and though we didn't settle in Valley Center, we come back as often as we can! The food is always excellent, the Italian sub is the best sandwich ever! We've had burgers, the dip, Philly cheesesteak, Reuben and hot pastrami too, all delicious. Being from England, we are used to queueing and not worried about a bit of a wait when the food is so good..... sometimes patience is well rewarded! Stopped in yesterday to get our dinner to take home and our 3 sandwiches were enough for 2 meals each. Had an order of seasoned fries to stave off the hunger on the drive home and they were great (though I'm not a big fan of fries...) - enough for an army! Great little spot in Valley Center for food and gifts. Had a yummy club sandwich with fries (seasoned). Everything tastes fresh right down to the juicy bacon on the sandwich. I will be coming back to try it again soon. It's nice they have an espresso bar inside for a pick-me-up and attached next door is a gift shop, very cute idea! So far I have gotten two to go orders from country junction and I have enjoyed them both! I have ordered the chicken Ortega sandwich on squaw bread and I have also ordered the mushroom Swiss burger. For both orders I got fries and a drink. Their portion of fries is very generous, and their seasoning is really tasty. The mushroom Swiss burger was a bit disappointing because the mushrooms appeared to be canned or at least they were not fresh. I never crave canned mushrooms so I will steer clear of anything with mushrooms in the future. The employees are friendly but not overly personable. It's unfortunate that this is really the only deli nearby. The sandwiches are decent and it's a nice spot to meet friends for lunch but I can't get over the service. One girl in particular always screws up my order and the few times I've gone in the mornings to get an iced coffee, she seems so confused as if she has no idea what I'm ordering (although I've gotten iced beverages multiple times from other servers).
