The fudge is probably good, however we went for the $2.50 elephant ears. Elephant ears are a flaky, cinnamon-y, sweet pastry. They're huge, flat, and resemble huge floppy ears of an elephant. They're a nice treat with a coffee (go to Coffee Grinders), and you will be the envy of everybody on the streets of Newport as you stroll around a sunny day munching greedily on your elephant ear. Awful. Bought 1/4 pound of fudge for ~$10. Zero taste. Chocolate peanut butter doesn't taste like either chocolate or peanut butter. It's just a dry, crumbly sugar bomb. Don't waste your time or money. read more

YUMMYYYYYY!!!!!! This is my favorite fudge. Every flavor I have tried is great (chocolate chip, chocolate, chocolate peanutbutter, Penuche, Mint Chocolate Chip) Its creamy and sweet and flavorful and I can't get enough of it. The smell from the cases lures you in from the street. Its all made fresh in front of you in a big kettle and the staff are great with recommending flavors. You can also have it shipped to you during the winter (i can't get enough of the creamy goodness) Only drawback is Parking- theres none read more

Nice creamy delicious fudge. The prices are fair and the slices are decent. Rocky Road, Penuche, Peanut Butter, Oreo, Chocolate Chip, and the Maple Walnut were all very good. They also have homemade taffy which was good but some of the flavors, particularly watermelon, were completely stuck to the wrapper!!!! read more

1 star review is for both the crappy service and crappy fudge, truffle, and chocolate bark thing. My husband and I were walking our dogs around Thames and I decided to grab some fudge when I saw this place. I saw little sampler boxes of fudge for $6-$8 which looked perfect, so I asked the employee closest to me what kinds of fudge were in them. She replied "uhh.....um.....like, different kinds?" I asked if there was any way she or the other employee could tell me what kind was in one box (you could see the fudge, it's not like they were covered) and they both said no. Okaaaay....so I got two pieces of fudge and as soon as the girl was done cutting them, she asked "okay so that's it, right? Go to the cash register" in a suuuuper annoyed voice. I was the ONLY customer in there so it's not like I was holding up business. I said "no, I wanted something from this case too" and pointed to another case where they had truffles and bark-like chocolate. The other employee looked and acted really annoyed that I interrupted whatever she was doing on her phone to do her job and put two pieces of chocolate in a bag for me (oh and she didn't even do it correctly - I didn't notice until after that she didn't give me what I asked for). So she rings me up and as I'm handing her cash, she moves their tip jar closer to me. iiiiiiiiii'm sorry but no, you do not get a tip for crappy service. Okay so we walk down to the wharf with and take out our treats. So disappointing!!! We had a piece of maple walnut fudge and chocolate chip fudge, an Irish cream truffle, and a white chocolate with cashews bark thing (the last one is not what I asked for but it's what I got). The truffle was okay, but I definitely would not get it again. The fudge was NOT good. It was OLD and dry. Like, at least 3 days old. If that IS fresh fudge then that's even worse!! The white chocolate thing they gave me had caramel in the middle and it was okay but nothing special. Overall, the place leaves a LOT to be desired. The owner(s) should do themselves a big favor and start off by hiring new staff. read more

The fudge is good, the service is not. The girls working here were extremely rude, were not helpful, and gave me a sample without informing me it had nuts after I had already taken a bite! Luckily no allergic reaction, but this could have been bad. read more

The fudge was gross and not at all worth the exuberant price I was charged. The salt water taffy was flavourless and gross. I was HUGELY disappointed with all of my purchases. I ended up throwing them away after trying bits of everything because it was just horrid. We came back here after eating their mediocre fudge, to grab some taffy to take home. Their was a sign on the door that said, "back in five." that was fine. We decided to wait..... Their was an obese blonde haired older guy outside smoking and it was kind of getting to us, so we walked across the street to buy souvenirs. When we came back a few mins later, it was open...l.and the obese blonde haired guy who was smoking by the front door was the guy working! He saw us standing bye the door and just let us walk away...... The taffy also stuck to the wrappers and was just ok....but a total waste with most of it sticking to the wrappers. :( We are moving close in the fall and I won't be back. read more

Yum. Fudge is good. They have a pretty good selection of flavors here, and you can buy as little as a quarter pound (don't try to eat it all unless you want to make yourself sick). I had the chocolate peanut butter, which was as heavenly as you can get while putting a block of pure sugar in your stomach. read more

Even though I'm kind of lacking a sweet tooth lately, and even though I'm kind of over fudge, I don't know how to go to the beach without buying some. And while the fudge I got was good (Oreo and Tollhouse) it wasn't nearly worth the price. Whatever option I chose was $12.99/lb for two types of fudge, and I asked for half a pound of each, expecting the total to be roughly $12.99, but it was closer to $18, which isn't a big deal, but that's a lot of money for 4 slices of fudge. The main redeeming factor was the elephant ear... amazing. I've always loved elephant ears and usually prefer the thick, chewy, sticky ones, but the flat, crispy, extra sugar-y ones that you get here are extremely good as well. They also have individual pieces of salt water taffy for sale if you don't want to buy an entire box. read more

Fudge was eh. For the price and flavor, it could be better. The peanut butter lacked anything close to a hint of pb, and the chocolate pb fudge had barely any pb flavor in it. I won't be back to buy any fudge. It was "boring" in flavor. I was not impressed that you could not make your own sample box but was required to purchased the sample box they created. How do you know what's inside? I would rather waste my calories on Ben and Jerrys down the street. read more

I love fudge, and Country Kettle makes good fudge. It is smooth and creamy and absolutely addicting. I love that you can see them making the fudge right there behind the counter, in a kettle. Yes it's expensive, but you're in Newport RI. I also got my son a milk chocolate lobster pop, and at the rate he devoured it, I would assume it was yummy too. I would go back. read more

I recommend the elephant's ear! If you've never had one, you need to give it a try. It's sort of like fried dough only caramelized, flaky, crispy goodness with a hint of cinnamon and sugar. I didn't try anything else and sadly, they don't give samples (disappointment). read more

Terrible!!! And so disappointing! We ordered a small box of what we saw in the glass case...what we got was totally different. In the case the fudge looked fresh and chocked full of nuts. What we got was dry leftover fudge with almost no nuts at all. It was so bad. When the attendant was slicing the pieces I questioned her about whether what she was giving me was nutty like the sample we saw. She said " oh yes, it's got tons of nuts". In the two big pieces (3x3 inches) we got, there were two miniscule pieces of nuts- less than two pencil eraser size. It was so dry and terrible. $10 of trash. Shameful and so misrepresented. read more
