Newport Fudgery is right on the main street near the marinas in the heart of Newport. It's a cute space. I purchased three pieces of fudge: Oreo, milk chocolate, and triple chocolate, as well as a couple of milk chocolate lobster-shaped lollipops. They were all just okay; I certainly wasn't wowed by any of the fudges and the chocolate lollipop wasn't my favorite. I'd rather go to my usual fudge spots along the boardwalk in New Jersey. Best tasting fudge I've ever had. I usually don't like fudge because it's too sweet, but not here at Newport Fudgery, it's perfect. We tried a sampler and all of it was delightful. And, get the sharbites, they are heaven! My friend said the peanut butter cups were the best she ever had. My brother-in-law said the salt water taffy was the best he's ever had. We also got to witness Andy Anderson, the fudgemaster himself, making fudge. Definitely make a stop here when you're visiting Newport, and take some home. Great fudge for the price and prime location. Dinging a star for service. We walked in (just us 2 and the cashier in the store) no greeting, no acknowledgment, nothing. Not even when we stepped up to the glass to read the different flavors. It was really awkward as he filled the glass with more fudge but didn't bother to look up and say hi or anything. Very tasty. Newport surprisingly has Kilwin's everywhere, but I can get that at home in Michigan, so we stopped by here instead today. Instead of large bricks of fudge for around $8, which is what I'm used to, they sell half-bricks for $4. Kinda cool because you could mix and match if you like. I bought some chocolate peanut butter fudge and I tried it tonight in my hotel room and it was delicious. I regretted not buying the fudge sampler ($8) which my friend bought, because I think it was like 6-8 different smaller pieces of fudge; they asked her if she wanted mint fudge or not in hers, apparently that's a contentious flavor for some, haha! Disappointed in the salt water taffy. I confess this is a fudge spot but my kids chose salt water taffy. It was very stale, I could not eat it at all. This might be because we visited in March but they should check that the treats they are selling are still good. And if possible, I'd like to see it be made on premises so I know the place is for real. This shop hit all three of those things. Solid 3 fudge shop. The fudge was good, but I feel it was WAY too overpriced. Almost $9 for 2 pieces of fudge that didn't have any weight to them? Come on. I had just a plain milk chocolate fudge, and my boyfriend had the chocolate chip cookie dough. The staff were nice enough, but it's definitely a tourist trap. We were drawn in by the sweet smell of chocolate (and the rumbling in our tummies). The wall of fudge called to us, and we were listening! The employees seemed to be mostly kids, and they were pretty friendly and patient as we took forever to decide what we wanted to take home. We couldn't decide between all of the flavors, so we opted for a small sampler package (priced by weight; ours was a little over $6) that had small chunks of 7 or 8 different flavors of fudge. We asked the employee behind the counter to tell us each of the flavors inside, and luckily there was one with all of the flavors we wanted to try! Everything was yummy, but our favorites had to be the mint chocolate chip & the chocolate peanut butter flavors. The triple chocolate (the darkest one) and the chocolate marshmallow were also great. So, naturally, on our way out of town the next afternoon, we stopped back in to pick up a small souvenir box (2 slices, $8) of our favorites: a slice of Mint Chocolate Chip and a slice of Chocolate Peanut Butter. Not a fan of this fudge at all - wish I had sampled it first before buying one of the small boxes. I *know fudge is supposed to be sweet but this is almost sickeningly so and other than the sweet coming through the flavors I got really don't taste like anything. I got toll house and oreo crunch - both are vanilla based I guess? You can see (but can't taste) the oreos or chocolate chips in either. Honestly I had a few bites of each and threw the rest away. What a waste of almost $10 (they say the small box is supposed to be half a pound but they always end up stuffing more in there and asking "if that's OK?" We knew exactly what we came back for, so we were in and out pretty quick. Banana salt water taffy and a 3/$10 fudge. Friendly service staff who knew their products well and yummy fudge. I have new found respect for the people who make fudge. We watched some guys working on it. What a workout! They were so friendly as we asked them questions about how long it takes, temperatures, etc. In the end all of their hard work is worth it. I got a family size box of fudge so I was able to get 4 flavors of fudge. I am slowly sampling them so I can avoid going into a sugar coma. I really like the tollhouse cookie but hte regular with nuts is classic. While there I got 3 elephant ears, which are sweet buttery pastries that consist of a puff pastry dough, sugar, and cinnamon. My dad really enjoyed it. I ate mine on the drive back from Newport to Brookline- my car needs a serious vacuuming now. read more

Wow, I'm not one to post about a less than ideal experience and actually this is the first time I have posted on yelp but the older lady who I guess owns the place was probably the rudest person I've ever met and after looking at other reviews it seems she is often this way. She rudely told us to shut the door behind us because it is cold before we were even in the store (A customer inside gave me a look that told me this lady was not friendly) and then when we were looking at the fudge and asked if she gives a sample because we wanted to try a flavor that was new to us she said "only if you are planning to buy something". Just for the record, my wife and I are in our 40s and don't look like we crawled out of the gutter. Anyway, after she gave us a teeny tiny sample and said it's big enough to split (the sample that was about the size of an eyelash) my wife asked if we buy by the slice or how it works and she said "well if you had not jumped the gun asking for a sample I could've explained it". She then went on to explain the options and my wife and I just looked at each other because we literally did not understand anything she said because we were shocked at how rude she was. I then told her we had planned to buy something but because she was so rude we would go somewhere else and then she started yelling at me and said get out, aren't you a pleasure, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Wow. I left trying to give her the benefit of the doubt and thinking maybe a family member had recently passed away or something but after reading other reviews I realize she is just a miserable human. It seems that every resort town like Newport, Banff or Bar Harbor has to have one or more fudge places in it, and it also seems that I can't resist buying some. The fact that the glossy tourist map I got from the information center had a $2 coupon on it didn't hurt, either. My wife and I bought a pound of fudge: three-quarters of a pound of the "double chocolate" (or maybe it was called "triple chocolate"; I forget) which despite the name is not multiple kinds of chocolate but just extra-chocolaty, and one -quarter pound of the chocolate chip fudge. The quality was good, but not as good, say, as is the fudge at Ben and Bill's in Bar Harbor. (My wife said that she thought the fudge she sometimes makes at home is better than the fudge we got here; I am inclined to agree.) The service also leaves something to be desired. The lady behind the counter cut off quarter-pound slabs using some kind of marked tool, and when she got to the last slab, a paper-thin small remnant remained. I asked if I could get that as a sample. No, she said, it was "going to be used". Now, there is no way that this small a piece was ever "going to be used" as anything other than a taste for the lady behind the counter. Considering that I had just bought about $12 worth of fudge, you'd think they would have tossed that in as a freebie; most fudge places will offer free samples even to people who don't buy anything at all. This seemed kind of chintzy on their part. Overall, I would say the fudge here was satisfactory, but over-priced; I wouldn't rule out my making a return purchase here if I was in town again, but I wouldn't be champing at the bit to do so. read more

The best fudge I've ever had. Period. I picked up the two flavor sampler of Toll House and Chocolate Marshmallow. The Chocolate Marshmallow was absolutely delicious -- soft, sweet, and tasty. The toll house has yet to be delved into... The two-flavor sampler is $7. They also had "Elephant Ears," which looked DELIGHTFUL, but my wife and I chose not to go down that route. Today. Horrible service and unfriendly, unhelpful staff! My family and I visited this store just this morning. There was no one in the store except for us. The 3 employees were eating behind the counters the entire time we were in the store and acted disturbed that we interrupted their conversation/eating. The young male employee served us but acted very annoyed that he had to stop chatting it up with his co-workers in order to serve us. It was our first time in this store so we did not know exactly what we wanted ... once again, the young male employee almost sighed when we stopped mid order to figure out what other kind of fudge we wanted to purchase. The employee offered no help, no input and when we asked how the products were, he acted annoyed. After ordering fudge, we inquired about the truffles - how dare we continue ordering! The employees were rude, not helpful at all --- I'm sorry I spent $50 in this place as there was another fudge shoppe just down the road. If you want bad service, go to this place. I would have probably bought more of this store's products had the employees been friendly, helpful and made some suggestions and ... maybe try to act like they like/were doing their job. I suggest the owner find new help! I haven't tried the product as they were all presents - I am only rating the horrible service! read more
