This will probably be the very first one star review and if I could leave zero stars I would. I'm in RI for a work conference. I met a Rhode Islander who highly recommended this place. My colleagues and I stopped by and I must admit I was very excited to try their fudge. Unfortunately I experienced what I believed to be racism. There was an older white woman behind the counter. My first coworker who is white went to get select her fudge and she decided on the sampler. The woman behind the counter handed her the fudge. Then she asked me what I wanted and I said the same thing. When I went to reach to grab the fudge she pulled it back towards her and didn't hand it to me. I didn't think too much into it until my colleague behind me who was also white was given her fudge. When we went to the register my first colleague paid and I just did not appreciate that she gave them their fudge but treated me like I was going to run off with it or something. I had some water taffy and I just decided at that moment that I would not spend money there. It was very disappointing and blatant racism. read more

Honestly, I can't provide a detailed review because I wasn't even given the chance to buy the product. The day of this review, I walked into the fudge shop, which was empty, and there were two older women behind the counter talking to each other. One lady was showing the other lady some videos on her phone. When we walked in we weren't greeted, that's fine. We then walked to the counter, and they continued to talk to each other... zero acknowledgement. My husband and I stood there for 30 seconds, not talking, just watching them... again, zero acknowledgement. So we walk out. We were ready to buy fudge for our family that is visiting, which is 15 people. Such a shame, we love supporting small businesses. read more

Fudge is always my go to when I'm on vacation! I loved all of my fudge selections. My absolute favorite was the peanut butter which had little chunks of Reese's pieces. They also have a SWEET deal, which is buy 3 for $12.50. read more

The shop is quaint and has many fudge selections. We tried the salted caramel, triple chocolate & chocolate peanut butter. They were very creamy. The staff was friendly and helpful. read more

I stopped in on a whim as try not to eat too much sugar... or will drive my doctor made for his blood sugar testing...but figured I'd bring some for a family member as a treat... well fudge is excellent and not too sugary. I almost gave 3 stars as it is all prepackaged and I usually want fresh fudge as Guy making on table... how do I know how old it is prepackaged... many different flavors and the package I do like as keeps fudge fresh vs. other places cut and in bag or darn wrap ... good fudge And looks family owned as older man monitoring the young guys making the fudge... read more

The Fudgery is the bomb. I'm not a big fan of fudge, but I like their fudge a lot. I always get the cookies and cream fudge here when I come to Newport and it never disappoints. It's one of my true guilty pleasures. The elephant ears are so sweet but also so good. It's impossible to walk out of here without buying something! read more

I saw that there were three places that made fudge on the main drag. I chose this one and also Kiliwins (a couple of blocks away). When we got back to the hotel we taste tested between the two places. At Kiliwins we got penuche, milk chocolate, and double dark chocolate. At Newport fudgery we got penuche and milk chocolate. Kiliwins was, by far, better on the side by side tastings and the double dark chocolate was the best of all three types. Kiliwins was the most creamy and had the best flavor. Newport wasn't bad but, when compared to the other, did not have as much flavor but was very sweet. I think the price point was better at Kiliwins too (buy two big pieces get one free). Now I am completely "sweeted out" and will have to wait a bit before having more. read more

Stopped in because why wouldn't you stop in to a fudge shop if you see one, and was happy with the purchase! The prices are average for fudge, and the quality was really good. Was in town for my son's Navy commissioning, and we needed to kill some time so we went into the shopping area and started walking around. We saw this store and buzzed right in - too delicious to pass up! We got fudge (Penuche is to die for!) and a bag of salt water taffy (super fresh and chewy). Walking down Thames street after dinner, this was a nice shop to stop in and get fudge. It was a bustling night in Newport, and there was a small bachelorette party in front of us in line dressed in costumes and giggling while they ordered, but the server behind the counter was quite patient with the situation and soon it was our turn. We got a small piece of chocolate walnut fudge to go, although there are many varieties to choose from like peanut butter, chocolate and cranberry etc. There are two small tables to sit down at if you want. No one has to tell you that a good piece of fudge while decadent will also instantly put five pounds on your waistline, so we actually spent the rest of our trip eating and sharing that piece of fudge bit by bit, if you can believe it. The fudge is very well made and not overly sweet, and I would recommend getting some as gifts. read more

Cute and locally run fudge shop. I stopped by to pick up some saltwater taffy bc I had a craving today. In a great little part of town right in the Brick Alley area of downtown Newport. Unlike others comments, the same staff members were helpful, polite, and took interest in having some pleasant conversation. I recommend going for a little something sweet if you need a pick me up while you're shopping or to bring back as a gift while you're in town. read more

I almost passed this place up because I'm a stickler for good customer service and I wondered if the owner was as depicted in reviews. It was well worth the visit. I found her kind, personable, warm and very appreciative of my business! She gave me good descriptions of the flavors and didn't rush me through anything. I don't care to sample things esp during covid times so it did not bother me at all that there weren't complimentary samples. (Don't understand people expecting free product anyway) The fudge was great! We bought a box of salt water taffy (so good!) and we got the 3/$10 fudge option- cookies and cream, peruche, and rocky road. All yummy and not hard/ stale at all! Smooth, creamy freshly made and delicious! So glad I went in there. We're only here for a short time but I hope I can swing back by for more before we leave town. read more

After roaming the area, I made a point to stop here as I headed back to my car. I usually do when I'm in these scenic towns, I always like to bring back locally made confections and things. and I luve small business/ mom & pop shops. However, Fail. The staff was not rude, but not pleasant either, just eh about being there, didnt greet upon entering, since we were the only ones there, you'd think. Anyways, my problem lies with the fudge itself. I got a peanut butter and a Chocolate Walnut. (and I know sweets, and could be a bit particular, but visiting Newport, I had a high expectation I guess. Anyways, both flavors were made wayyy too sweet. .Granted, yes its candy/fudge, but it was tooo sweet And the consistency was a tad 'off'. I don't know how to explain it, but as opposed to the expected fudge dense consistency, it was more like...i dunno....have you ever frosted a cake and put the leftover can of chocolate frosting in the fridge, and a couple days later went back?...with a spoon....yeah, like that, not like Fudge. As just a preference I didnt care for the mini reeses pieces in the peanut butter fudge-but that could be a 'me' thing. Peanut Butter fudge has a particular taste, then to suddenly pop in an un-natural candy flavor into it, yeah it just wasn't for me. I would have preferred an option as opposed to being surprised after the purchase. Had I known or seen it indicated on the flavor sign I would have rethought my choices. read more

During my visit to Newport R.I. on Feb 24th 2018, I was touring Thames street with an international friend as I've done many times each year. We stepped into the Newport Fudgery store at 168 Thames St and planned to purchase 2 boxes of fudge (Choc Walnut and Choc). Prior to making a purchase we asked the employee if we could please sample a little taste of the product as most fudge places do allow this before a sale. The employee became quite upset at our request and stated no samples and that we needed to buy only because she had too many people sample earlier and they did not purchase. We were shocked and speechless at this response, she then proceeded to grab a knife or some type of cutter and hastily pushed a piece of fudge over the counter. We declined and left the store. This incident occurred approximately at 1:50pm. I'll make sure to NOT to revisit the Newport Fudgery at 168 Thames st and will make sure that my other guest do not venture into this establishment as this does not look good for the reputation of Newport R.I. read more

I saw this place online as a recommended place to visit so I definitely wanted to stop by because I love all food, especially sweets! The service here was mediocre at best. She didn't seem the most friendly or approachable. They'll only allow you to sample one flavor of fudge. They had 3 different sizes: souvenir (2 pieces of fudge), medium (4 pieces) and large (6 pieces). I wanted to buy 6 pieces but have it packaged in the 2 and 4 boxes because they were gifts for other people. The price for the 6 box was cheaper than the price of the 2 box + 4 box but the lady told me I would have to pay for the box of 2 and box of 4 if I wanted the two boxes even if it totaled to 6 pieces. I hope the fudge is good at least. read more
