Growing up in the south, this is what we would call a "joint". Just a small hole in the wall place with amazing food! Good people and great atmosphere. You can not beat this place for breakfast. If you can't find something to eat there's something wrong with you. You'll have to wait a spell for a table but there's a reason for that. The food is delicious! read more

The portions are huge, the variety is incredible and the flavors are AMAZING. OMG, I had no idea this place existed until I used YELP to find some place new for my husband & I to try. We were so happy we decided to come here. It's cute, cozy and welcoming. The staff was great and even though we had never been there before, they treated us we were regulars. The menu was perfect, comfort food variety. We had a hard time deciding with such great options and watching all the selections being served to other patrons. The pancakes - seriously, you have to try the pancakes and consider sharing because they are big. The serving sizes are big, and just as tasty. My husband got the big breakfast and a side of hash, perfection. I had the birthday cake pancakes - yes, yes. I felt like a 10 year old when they put them on table. We had a wonderful brunch and took home leftovers which we actually ate later that day. We will be returning. read more

When we arrived, an employee opened the fort and said "come on in." The food was great. The giant size pancakes were hanging over the edges of the plate. A modest up charge for real maple syrup made them taste even better. A side dish of corned beef has was crisp and delicious. Even the coffee was delicious. Countryside never disappoints! It may be small, however, the countless times I have been there has always been a pleasant experience making me want to come back for more! There are so many options on the menu and they are all delicious from what I have tried so far! This place gets packed, so be prepared to wait on a weekend, especially near closing time but it is so worth it and they call you when a table is ready. There is an outside dining area if you prefer and it is great to sit there on a nice breezy morning. Excellent, fast service and everyone is extremely friendly! After reading most of the recent reviews on here, we decided to make the trek & have breakfast. Let's start with my Breakfast Quesadilla: the tortilla was a tasteless piece of cornmeal, the egg was overcooked with burnt edges, as was the chicken. I ended up leaving the inedible pieces of chicken on the plate because I could not even get my knife through it! Next, let's review the "Famous Chilli": nice kick, very meaty & good amount of vegetables in it. Lastly, the "Fresh" Apple Cinnamon Pancakes: there's nothing fresh about it! Very dry, doughy & undercooked in places that tasted like glue. The only way to eat these is to have them with an excessive amount of syrup to mask the flavor & change the texture. They're NOT buttermilk pancakes! I would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

Not sure what all the fuss is about, when I was told about this place it was like if you don't eat there you're crazy. I took my son and we sat down to eat, service was super SLOW! My son had the canoli pancake which had been suggested, it was giant with a nice amount of decent canoli cream, I ordered a well done egg white omelet, it came to the table runny, not good for egg whites. They brought it back and when they finally returned it, my son was done eating and the omelet was still mediocre at best. Spoke directly to the owner about it he apologized and said come back your next breakfast is on me. We came back a week or so later, reminded him about the last experience and guess what , I was charged...he's an outright liar. So here it is, crowded, poor service and an owner that doesn't care...I won't be back! read more

Classic roadside hole in the wall joint with ridiculously tasty food, hustling friendly (PATIENT) staff and on site owner operators who give a shit. It is not the Russian Tea Room. It is an earthy, old fashioned spot whose decor hasn't been changed in forever. There is no waiting room. You wait in your car when it is busy because it is in fact THAT POPULAR. So get there early, and if you arrive when it is a peak hour, don't blame them. To the experience: young, well trained staff with fantastic attitudes and genuine spring in their step. Dog eared menus and wooden chairs/tables belying the "country" thing (get it?). If you find this uncomfortable, take it up with your chiropractor or orthopeodist, otherwise you are like one of those dopes who complain about the draft on the deck of a cruise ship. Get a clue. The kitchen is right there, behind the wooden bar, and there is often a healthy crowd. The food is prepared quickly and well. Yesterday I had a Dirty Benny and my accomplice enjoyed the chili, both served by an upbeat, smiling server who laughed at my atrocious attempts at humor. We sat at the bar this time due to the crowd; last time we got a table near an outlet so I could recharge my phone. Despite being in the weeds, the server made sure I didn't leave without my phone. That's how they roll. The food is goddamn exquisite if you like a hearty home cooked style with generous proportions. We had a nice chat with the owner prior to our exit and will return. Crowded. Small wooden tables. Loud. Wait outside when busy. Crazy awesome food and service. I hope it never changes. read more

My favorite breakfast spot hands down! Let's start with the food: pancakes - phenomenal; basic breakfasts - great; those "custom" breakfast plates that make a place memorable - terrific! Let's start on the pancakes. They are indeed huge, like dinner plate sized. They are thick and fluffy but not overly done with baking powder and soda (maybe they use cake flour and yeast??). While the cannoli pancake is popular, I would recommend trying some of the more unique flavor combinations...pumpkin (which is available year round) and banana are my favs!! My son has tried and endorsed their gluten free pancakes. Talking specialties, they even have PROTEIN pancakes! Made with buckwheat and 50g of protein powder, this made for a more than welcome guiltless breakfast for me a number of times! The owner/cook works out at a nearby gym and takes those protein 'cakes seriously! Other breakfast plates like the chicken coop (potatoes, eggs, bacon, chili, cheese...you get the idea) is a favorite for my daughters. They do a special corned beef hash version of eggs Benedict which I loved! Can't forget the French toast! More dessert than breakfast! Now the service - the girls working there are all so sweet. Are they busy as hell? YES! Are you going to have to wait for a table and for your food? YES! But aren't those hallmarks of great diners? Of course they are :). Places like this remind me why I like getting out of the city every so often. You just don't find them in Manhattan. I was hanging at my sister's place in Westchester recently and, based on reviews, she suggested we head here for Saturday morning breakfast. The place is tiny (there was a bit of a wait and they said we should wait in our car because there's not really a place to do so inside), but I think it adds to the charm. Also loved that you can see the cook at work -- we ended up sitting at the bar which was perfect. 3 of us had an omelette with home fries (spinach/mushroom/onion for me). My niece had caramel butterscotch pancakes, which I stole a few bites of. Very good, but very sweet (duh). All portions were huge. I caught a glimpse of a few orders of their famous Holy Canoli pancakes and they looked tempting, despite being the size of my arm. The staff was great - the owner, Lee, introduced himself and they seemed to have several regular customers. I saw him give a free muffin to one customer who ended up having to leave for some reason before ordering. The waitresses were friendly, offered us newspapers to read, and were quick to refill my coffee. Not sure what the total bill was, but I think each dish was about $8. I already plan on insisting we go here next time I get on the Metro North. read more

We have been searching for a great breakfast spot and we finally found it! It's so hard to find a good, exciting, and cheap breakfast food north of the city but this place amazed me. They have a great menu and soo many different pancakes. My husband and I got omlettes, and they were huge and delish. We also got the holy cannoli pancakes for breakfast dessert and it was amazing. Even the toast they use is fresh homemade bread, not normal packaged bread. This place is great and the service is fast. This is my new favorite spot! Way overrated! After reading about the "best pancakes " around in the journal news , we decided to give this place another try. Were we at a different place ?!?? Our meal was truly horrible. The pancakes were tasteless, chewy and left you with a weird after taste. The syrup was like glue. Super sticky and made a mess every where. The coffee was horrible ; cold and old. The environment is not charming. It's old and dirty. The only positive was the waitress. She was sweet and friendly. The best pancakes are at the everyday dinner in Carmel. Delicious , fluffy, tasty pancakes !!! Wish we went there instead. ! read more
